Pros vs. Joes  Welcome to the New World Order

Hello All,
I have been using Final Cut Express for several years and have really enjoyed that program.  I always wanted to step up to FCP, but as I'm not a professional editor I couldn't really spend that kind of money on something that is just a hobby.
Every now and again I would go into the FCP forums to ask a question and I always felt like I was an outsider.  It felt like I had walked into an "old boys club" with lots of expensive wood and 100 dollar cigars.
When I first heard of FCPX and the incredible price of 299.00 almost the first thought that came to my mind was, "there were going to be tons of noobs logging onto the FCP forum asking a lot of "dumb" questions.  I wondered how all those "pros" were going to like having their "club house" invaded by lots of people who were not pros.  I think part of what is going on here is a back lash.
Having said that, for all you pros out there I feel your pain.  If you are making a living off of Final Cut software then this cannot be a very good experience. Certainly not a magical experience.  For me, FCPX has a lot of really fantastic features that make it much, much easier than what I am use to in FCE.  But even for me it is missing some important features (I can only imagine what this feels like for someone who feeds their kids off the money they make with the old program).
I don't work for Apple, I don't get paid by Apple, I'm just a customer who has bought Apple products for over 20 years.  In all of this "storm over FCPX" I don't think you can forget that Apple is a great company.  Perhaps one of the greatest U.S. corporations in history.  However, even the great ones make mistakes. The program isn't a mistake (it's incredible).  It's how the roll out was handled.  I would not have named the program Final Cut Pro X (because it is not).  I think this one factor has lead to most of the problem.  If you had called this program anything else it couldn't help but have hit a major home run.
Last, you can't turn your back on a professional community that has stood by you through thick and thin, even if it wasn't your intention to do so.  Steve Jobs is a great communicator, perhaps one of the best.
Right now Apple's silence is saying all the wrong things.
Mike

I agree, apple is a great company, but what Apple is doing any time recently  isn't really acceptable anymore.
- delivering something like Final Cut X as "PRO" is .. there is no word for it! shaming? Mike, you say, they just named it wrong, why should they? Apple delivered a iMovie pro as Final Cut Pro, and it was intended so. They wouldn't have deleted FCStudio and FCExpress if it was so...
- Killing XServe and everything that has to do with Sever ("Final Cut Pro X Sever" haha) just because the "users don't give em Feedback" is ridiculous...
- Just focusing on "Noobware" like iOS and making everything so easy that even my dead grandmother could use it but forgetting people like me, who know how to use a more difficult system and who WANT this and  that setting or feature.
- and finally: I liked Apple, I loved it and always was proud of what and how easy i could do something compared to friends with PCs, but there is nothing to be "proud" of anymore. Apple isn't updating there programs. Aperture, Final cut Studio, Logic, all Apps that cost a few hundred € but Apple is only focused on developing "completely new Bull$**t" (FCPX) instead of focussing on improving the already so awesome apps.
This may seem a bit overreacted, indeed it is supposed to be so, to show where everything will go if apple isn't changing the direction their heading to…
Greetings
Ronny

Welcome to the new Oracle User Group Community. Whether you landed here via the redirect from the previous community site - IOUC.org - or navigated here directly, welcome. This new platform brings new community features to enhance the way you connect with user group peers and with Oracle, as well as make it easier for you to find information through a more intuitive interface. We invite you to provide your feedback on the new site. Log in using your OTN Forum credentials and join the discussion here. If you do not yet have OTN Forum log in credentials, navigate to http://community.oracle.com/community, click on the "Register" link in the upper right corner of the page and create your account.
We look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Kashif,
Glad you like the new Community. Communication among user group leaders works a little differently on this site than on the previous site. Rather than having communication focus around e-mail distribution lists, communication now is focused within the site itself. The intent is that this will provide users the one place to come for information, rather than having to sort through lots of e-mail threads. That doesn't mean that e-mail is completely out of the picture though. Users can opt-in to receive e-mail notifications when an individual piece of content is changed, or when content is posted to a space. Look for the "Receive email notifications" link under "Actions" to start receiving notices. To stop receiving notices, go back to the same content/space and click "Stop email notifications".
Your Relationship Manager will be talking with you and the other leaders in your region over the next few days and weeks regarding how you and your group of leaders want to communicate.
    Best regards,
    Oracle User Group Team

I have been editing a document on my MacBook Pro and iPad, which has the newer versions of Pages. Now, I cannot open on My MacBook. It says I need a newer version of OS. However, I'm not showing a newer version being availabe!!! Can anyone help???

That is Pages for iPad v2.0, which Pages '09 v4.3 can't read.
You need to either stick with the older version of Pages on the iPad or get Pages 5 for the Mac which is only available if you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Unfortunately that is not the end of your woes because Apple has made iCloud convert the files to Pages 5 now, and Pages 5 has over 90 features deleted on top of doing a shocking job of converting older Pages files.

  • Would I still be able to fun Final Cut Pro with no problem with the new 13"

My old MBP has "NVIDIA GeForce 860M GT with 128MB" and the new 13-inch MBP has "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics" I don't really know what "GT" means, but the more expensive MBP's listed have it, so I'm guessing it's pretty good. I was wondering if I'd still be able to fun Final Cut Pro quickly if I got the new 13-inch MBP.
Back in 2007, the guy at the Apple store said I'd have to get a MBP instead of a MB if I wanted to fun FCP correctly, and now both the MB and MBP use the same graphics chip, so I'm wondering if FCP will still function correctly on the new 13-inch MBP?

    Eric wrote:
Incorrect about what? I never made any statements, just questions. According to the Apple store, the Macbook and 13-inch Macbook Pro both use the same chip, which is the only statement I made. And which is why I'm wondering if the new 13-inch MBP can even handle FCP since the MB can't (according to the guy in the Apple store).
Actually, your original question was formed as part of a statement:
now both the MB and MBP use the same graphics chip, so I'm wondering if FCP will still function >correctly on the new 13-inch MBP?
And that's the part that BoyHowdy pointed out that you are "a little incorrect" about. While it's true that they both have an onboard 9400M graphics chip, you are overlooking the fact that the 15" & 17" MBPs also have the much more powerful and dedicated 9600M GT graphics card. This is not an insignificant difference. Final Cut Pro, not to be confused with Final Cut Express (not you, others have confused the two), requires a dedicated card which the 15" & 17" MBPs have in the form of the additional 9600M GT, but the 13" still lacks.
The specs on the Final Cut Pro page are a little confusing because while it says it *will not work* with integrated graphics, it specifically refers to Intel, and does not mention Nvidia. However, it still says it requires an AGP or PCI Express card, which the 9400M is not.
My feeling is that even if it runs, the performance of Final Cut Pro on that system will be unacceptable, and will ultimately drive you mad. It really pushes the graphics systems hard, and despite their vast improvement over the pathetic Intel onboard graphics systems, the 9400M is still pretty anemic for high end work. You're better off saving a little more money and getting the low end 15" model. Not to mention, the extra screen real estate makes a huge difference with the very crowded Final Cut Pro UI.

  • Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

My experience with upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion is that the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless will print just fine, although it seems to take a little longer to find the printer on the network. My scan function however locks up and will not work. This really is an annoyance, though, since I have VueScan, which works fine with Lion.
Hopefully, Apple and HP will not orphan the OS native scanning feature for HP multifunction printers.

after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

Hello, I have transferred my Acrobat XI Pro from old MAC to the new one. After the transfer can not open any PDF file. Any idea how to solve this?

    Hey ilyaz20360341,
Could you please specify how exactly did you transfer Acrobat from one MAC to other.
You might need to deactivate the software from your old machine and then activate it on the new one with the same serial number (for Acrobat license) or Adobe credentials (for Acrobat subscription).
If you have done the same way, then let me know if you are able to open Acrobat itself.
Do you get any specific error message while opening a PDF?
    Hope to get your response.

  • My MacBook Pro 2.33GHz cannot see the New Airport Extreme

Just bought the new Airport Extreme(Wireless N). Power it up, cannot see the new wireless network under the Airport signal icon. The Machine have no problem using my older Netgear wireless router(G) and the new Linksys Wire router(N). Just connot see the new Apple Airport Extreme.
My the other two iMac(G5 and Intel) 20" can see all three wireless network and connet to them without any problem.
My only question is has Apple implement any "regional code" on the hardware. My MacBook Pro is from US and the new Airport Extreme was bought in New Zealand.
Any suggestion? BTW a clean install of the System didn't help. Found out after 2-3 hours of installation of System and all my Application back.

To use the Airport Utility you must select your network under that Airport icon but you can't. So what to try? Of course you may need to reset your router. If still not visually seen under Airport then go to system preferences/network/status and choose Airport. Look for the preferred drop down menu. If network is seeen then select it and hit apply. Then select under Airport icon then use the Airport Utility. If not seen in preferred then type in your network exact name or use the + button. The above will work you just need to keep trying.

  • Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air

Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air (just for looking at footage and assembling a rough cut) or is the graphics processing inadequate? Also wondering the same about Photoshop CS5 and Aperture 3.1.3.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

You can install on (1) Tower and (1) Laptop, as long as they are both used by you, and NOT at the same time.  This is for when you edit on your tower, but then need to edit at home, or on the road.  You cannot use one copy of FCP on multiple machines at the same time.  You need one copy for each machine you intend to use at the same time.

Soundtrack pro is not included in the new logic pro 9 app? Where can I find it?

    Hi
Soundtrack Pro was included in the Logic Studio and Final Cut (7) suites, and would appear to have been discontinued.
Unless you can track down a retail copy of either suite, you are out of luck

  • Welcome to the new Adobe EchoSign

Welcome to the totally re-vamped Adobe EchoSign!   Last night, the team pushed the bits for our new Spring release of Adobe EchoSign. With the new integrations we’ve done with Adobe Reader, Microsoft SharePoint, Box, and Dropbox, we’re putting e-Signing capabilities out to almost one billion users around the world. I wanted to share a personal perspective on this release with you…. So here goes.
First off, a HUGE THANK YOU to our customers. We are honored to have more than 34M signers around the world, and 25% of the F100 have selected Adobe EchoSign. This includes Google, Facebook, Oracle, NetApp, Rackspace, Time Warner Cable, United Healthcare, and thousands more! Across our customer base, we’re seeing users report an average of >85% decrease in time it takes to get important documents signed: this saves time & money. And more importantly, Adobe EchoSign is helping companies and organizations improve key business processes. Here at Adobe, we’re saving ~$1M/year on overnight delivery costs alone by staying electronic; and core business processes are faster & more efficient. You see, we think technology should enable companies to make their business processes smarter. So that’s how we’ve designed the SaaS service.
This new release is about a taking a fresh new approach to the user experience. We used a “tablet-first approach” when we designed the UX, knowing that the majority of signers will be on an iPad or Android-based template. Signing from your tablet helps ensure that the contract is very readable, and is the tool of choice for most of our customers. So you’ll see a focus on touch-based, gesture-based capabilities throughout the product.
And it’s about putting secure, easy signing capabilities at the “end points” where business users are: that’s the Adobe Reader, Box, DropBox, Microsoft SharePoint, and more. We estimate that 99.99% of documents that get signed are done in PDF.  We’ve leveraged Adobe’s PDF expertise to deliver the most secure, and easy way to sign PDFs from any device, any location, and from any of the places where people are reading and storing their secure PDFs. The enhanced integrations enable 1 billion users to sign with the trusted capabilities of Adobe.
And for those admins and developers out there, there are new SOAP and REST APIs to empower developers, customers and partners to integrate the capabilities of EchoSign into their products, services and workflows. Additionally there are new administration capabilities for easily creating and managing users in bulk, controlling user roles within an organization and managing enterprise portals.
Finally, we’re continuing our ruthless, never-ending work on both security and system availability: if you’re trusting a SaaS based service for your critical business documents, it needs to come from a trusted vendor that prioritizes these investment areas. We’re making good progress here. We’ve had 100% system uptime in 5 of the last 7 months, which – we think – puts Adobe into the #1 spot for SaaS based e-Signature services here. But that’s not enough. A mistake in our datacenter earlier this week impacted a # of our users, so we know there’s more to do. [Argh – we apologize!!]  Over the last 6 months, we’ve invested millions into net-new datacenter approaches that benefit from the latest in virtualization, dynamic systems monitoring, security, and more.
So the team here at Adobe really hopes that you enjoy the new release. It’s just the beginning of a very big and ambitious roadmap we’re executing against for 2014.
Let us know what you think
    All the best,
    @jon_perera

As an Enterprise user, where can I find the new custom workflow feature?
    i.e.....
"The ability for our customers to create and publish standardized re-useable business processes throughout the organization has been amped up. Our customers will be able to increase compliance and eliminate costly errors by using our new custom workflow capabilities. It also gives us a significant competitive advantage."
