Prosumer Photo Hosting

Q for all the photobugs that do it for a living.
What is your preferred solution for hosting photos / shoots / events etc.
I've been looking around and the most complete solution which includes
personal branding
e-commerce linkage for stock selling
private / public / non-listed galleries
mobile, social acccess, etc
is SmugMug
can you guys share your recos - I'd like to replace my collections from MobileMe and merge it into a professional portfolio.
Thanks
JJ

thanks guys
I'm really reticent to get pulled into the HTML/CSS world again - arghh. I've already done this a few times with other programs and all the affiliates are charging ridculous prices for almost a peice of javascript.
I've gone all around the horn and I'm really not impressed with anyone. I might even use wordpress and pay a developer to snazz up the CSS.
I'm not sold that paying the extra cash to even have e-commerce enabled is worth it. Can anyone speak to whether they have sold anything off stock or prints to make it worthwhile ?
I'm thinking of just having my visual site up on Wpress for hiring and delivering everything off Picasa.
Zenfolio I am looking at but the pricepoint again, is really crazy for what they offer.

  • Photo Hosting Service??

    Hi all,
I'm in Cairo, Egypt right now going into the 3rd of six weeks I'll be spending here. I'm with about 18 other students on scholarships funded by the US State Department, and we all have digital cameras. I volunteered to sort of coordinate the photo sharing post-trip, and I need some suggestions. We'll have a fair number of gigabytes' worth of photos when this is done with. Are there any photo hosting services out there that offer unlimited, free storage with EASY mass upload/download of photos??? They've all gotta be original copies/full resolution, because I'll be making an iPhoto book with them. We all need to be able to upload our photos to the same place, and all have access to them. Any suggestions???
P.S. Not everyone else uses a Mac, of course.

If you don't need to upload full sized files and can live with a maximum pixel dimension of 1024 you should look at Twango.com. It's free with an upload limit of 250 MB per month. With the smaller 1024 size you can upload a lot of files per month. In one account you can have "channels", i.e. areas for different topics They provide code for pasting into an existing web page to give you this type of presentation. Click on one of the presentations and it'll take you to the twango account and page of the user who posted it. Viewers of a channel can opt for a slideshow or just look at the gallery or larger views, up to the 1024 or full size if you choose so. Very easy to upload when you select the batch mode, i.e. dragging files from your computer into the window provided and then set the file size desired.
You can also upload video clips. I think they are converted into flash for smaller file storage but I'm not positive.
I was introduced to the site about a month ago by friends of my daughter and her husband. I was very impressed.
    Do you Twango?

I think the design was very nice, simple and lightweight. It was clear that it was the content that should be in focus. But, it took me a while to understand that you could create albums with images.
Except that, the overall experience was very good and it seems like a good photo host.
And it seems like there is a problem with the footer if a image has a very long description, see http://konruk.net/photos/show/admin/4392 for an example.

  • All photos hosted bar one

    Hello,
iWeb 09. Normally works well. Uploaded about 5 photos and got the error message about no FTP connection.
Checked the web site and all bar one photo HAD been uploaded and published.
The one that did not, is a standard jpeg, single - no spaces or odd punctuation - label.
Tried changing its size both as dpi and pixels, still will not upload.
Tried a different photo and it uploaded without a hitch.
Photo not uploading - 1.2meg 1068 x 1600 - smaller than some that were uploaded!
Any ideas gratefully tested here in sunny Lancashire, UK.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    3 - reboot.
4 - launch iWeb and try publishing again as you normally do.
Are you publishing to a folder on the hard drive and uploading from there with a 3rd party FTP client? If not and are using iWeb's ftp client try publishing to a folder and see if all the photos are included in the site. If they are then the problem is with the iWeb ftp client.

  • I switched something while perusing an ebay listing (right clicked?) and now it no longer displays the seller's images from their 3rd-party photo host (still works in IE). How do i reverse this?

Sellers can use eBay's image system to display their items, or use a 3rd-party that allows more and large images to be displayed directly within the description of the item. With this problem, the resulting listings are also completely messed up because of the change in layout (no pics).
i have checked many other listings and they show on IE but not FF. It occurred in mid-swing so i know i accidentally switched something, but am not sure how to get it back.

  • When uploading photos from iphoto for ebay they look horrible

I'm new to Mac. I have a new digital SLR Nikon D40 that takes the most magnificent pictures. When I look at them in the iphoto library and even email them from the library, they look awesome. Also, if I click on a photo in my library it tells me the photos is 2000 x 3008 and 1.4 MB.
I went to do some listing on ebay. I use sellersourcebook.com for templates. Then you upload your pictures to them, they do the photo hosting and assign an URL to each photo you upload. When I do this, my photos look blurry, small & grainy. I emailed their tech support and they told me I don't have enough pixels. I don't understand how this is true? Then someone suggested photobucket as a free photo hosting site. The same thing happened. Also when I uploaded photos to Costco from home to print I got a warning saying the photo isn't good enough quality and won't print right.
When I upload it opens up finder, I click on pictures, iphoto library, data, 2007. I went to the camera shop today where I bought my camera to see if they could help. They suggested that I may be uploading the thumbnail and not the original photo. I thought I was uploading the original photo.
    Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When I upload it opens up finder, I click on pictures, iphoto library, data, 2007.
Yes, the Data folder contains the thumbnails created by iPhoto for quick display of your library. The original resides in the Originals folder. If you have applied any edits (including rotation) then the edited version is in the Modified folder.
But it can be difficult to know whether the photo you need is in Originals or Modified. Plus, it is recommended that you NOT delve into the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. Any changes you make there will cause damage to your database.
The sanctioned way to upload your photos is to select them in the iPhoto application. Then do File > Export > File Export to a folder on your Desktop. The export dialog gives you the option to rename or resize the copies, if you like. Upload the Desktop folder, then delete it when done, as your files remain in the iPhoto Library.
    Regards.

  • How do you set up a simple web page to upload photos from iMac?

How do you set up a web page on the iMac so you can upload photos and maybe even video from iPhoto to it?

You really do not need to create your own web page or site to upload photos to the web.
There are many sites that can host photos for free or very cheaply per year.
You create your own user location on these sites.
Do a search for either web hosting sites or photo hosting sites.
Here are a few you can look at to get you started.
    There's Apple's own iCloud
    Facebook
    Image Shack
    Photobucket
    Picasa
    Flickr
    To name a few.
Do a search and see which photo uploading site works best for you .

  • Iphoto doesn't save my photos a jpg. file anymore, and i have no idea why..

Iphoto usually saves your photos as jpg. as you know
    mine no longer does that..
when i look up the pictures in their folders it simply has their title but not the jpg.
    format.
This means it's IMPOSSIBLE to upload them to imageshack or other photo hosting sites,
    how do i fix it?
    Thankyou

I'd guess the files are still jpeg, but the extensions are hidden. Go to the Finder preferences window, click Advanced, and make sure "Show all file extensions" is checked.

  • Trying to export photos with exposure adjustments from iphoto

I made colour adjustments and exposure changes in iphoto, then exported to the library, for preparation to upload to my preferred photo hosting site, but the exposure and colour changes were not kept after exporting, is there a setting to allow this?

When you export the original you get the original - that is exactly what the camera took, the "original" - so that has no edits or other changes
If you export as a JPEG you get the current version
It may or may not be the same resolution as the original depending on what edits you have done

  • Photo export quirk is causing serious grief!

I have a ton of wedding photos that are arranged chronologically in an album in iPhoto. All of the pictures have been renamed with descriptive titles in place of the original sequential numbers that the camera gave them. I want to upload all of the renamed pics to my photo host and the only way to retain the titles made in iPhoto is to export them to a folder outside of iPhoto. Fine, no problem. But the folder will only arrange them alphabetically, by date modified, or date created. I want to just upload all of my renamed photos in their chronological order, as they are in the iPhoto album. What am I doing wrong?

What you'll have to do is rename the in iPhoto with the Batch Rename->Title to Text sequentially. Then export them to the desktop using the File->Export->File Export menu option with the additional option to use the title for the new file name. That will produce the alphanumerical listing of your image files in the order you want.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photo info

    Aloha,
I maintain an online photo album of pictures from hikes that my friends & I go on. Last weekend, a friend gave me some pictures that he took with his new iPhone 3Gs. When I put them into my software (Jalbum.net), all of the technical information came out in the caption of the picture! I tested this by having another friend send me a picture from her iPhone 3Gs and the same thing happened. This doesn't happen with any other camera including my own iPhone 3G. You can have a look here:
    http://thad.com/pix/hikes/KVR/Chris/
I think I can go in and manually remove all that information, but I am looking for a permanent solution to this. Is there something different with the way iPhones 3Gs tag pictures?
    Thanks in advance,
    Thad

    Hi, there ..
Very interesting: You seem to have gotten diagnostic data I've not seen. I suspect there is some diagnostic mode set into your friend's iPhone. I posted an iPhone shot to my Pbase site to see what happened and you can see the results here
    http://www.pbase.com/phil_wheeler/image/115245046
There have been discussions here about how to get certain diagnostic information (e.g., indication of signal strength in dBm vs. the strength icon) but no mention of anything as extensive as you've displayed.
I wonder what would happen if you posted my image above to your photo-hosting site?

  • After 2 years of going to my picture hosting site, today firefox no longer displays images there, how can i fix this?

I have used the same photo hosting site for a couple of years and always used Firefox to go there. Today when I went, the pictures no longer displayed and the login box was missing some parts. I have spent hours trying to fix this. I even downloaded IE back onto my system and it loaded the pictures fine.
I went so far as to delete ver 19, which I downloaded today for the first time, and then reloaded version 18.2- same thing, no pictures. I am loathe to use the reset option as it has never solved anything for me in the past and means aI have to redo a lot of stuff on the Firefox side of things
Any ideas? My site picture site is smugmug.com and my addons and extentions are up to date.
    Thanks

I understand you're happy with your extension solution, but just for the record, Firefox gives you fine control over exactly what gets cleared at shutdown. I've attached a screenshot showing the Settings dialog.

  • How can I store photos already taken in iCloud?

Can you only store photos taken after you set a photo stream? Or can I store all of my pictures?

You would only need extra iCloud space if you need the space for large backups, or backups of multiple iOS devices, or if you save lots of iCloud email with large attachments, or store lots of iWork documents, etc.
You can store your photos using a different cloud service such as Dropbox, or any of the numerous photo hosting services such as Flikr, Picassa, Smugmug, etc.  Music purchased from sources other than the iTunes store has to be kept in your iTunes library on your computer if you want to be able to access it on your iOS devices.

  • How do i transfer photos from my iphone to icloud to free up space?

How do I transfer photos from my iphone to the icloud so I can free up space?

You can't use iCloud to store your photos in order to free up space on your phone.  The only photos in iCloud other than the ones stored in your backup are photo stream photos.   And when you use photo stream your photo stream photos will still be stored on your phone.  In other words, you can't post your photos in iCloud and view them from there without having them stored on your phone.  There are many other photo hosting services that provide this (such as Flikr, Smugmug, Picassa and others).

  • Zen Micro Photo Belt C

I was astounded to find that the MicroPhoto doesnt come with a belt clip... perhaps what I saw a few months back was the regular Zen Micro but the special edition release that included one, so i was under the impression that they all did...
Anyways, I cant seem to find any place to buy one... im not sure if i can buy a regular belt clip for the Zen Micro, since the Micro and the MicroPhoto are very slightly different sizes... within -2mm. Check out Creative's Specifications for both.
So can anyone point me to a place to buy a belt clip for the MicroPhoto, or simply will the regular Zen Micro clip work too?

So would you recommend i get a 3rd part belt clip then?
You can probably get a small camera case for not too much money or modify a cell phone or PDA case.
I found a PDA case on sale for a few $. I made a few modifications and it works very well as a case for my Zen Micro.
