Protect yourself from blackmail over Skype

Recently we’ve seen reports of incidents of blackmail over Skype that we want to make you, our users, aware of.
The recent reports describe how users are lured into providing revealing images or information about themselves over Skype. The perpetrators then threaten to publish these images unless the user pays them not to.
This is a terrible situation to be put in and we’re acting on your reports to prevent the perpetrators from abusing Skype in this way in the future. Unfortunately, once they have your information we cannot control how they use it. Preventing them getting that information through vigilance is your most powerful defence.
In this case you should be vigilant for individuals asking you to share images or information about yourself that you wouldn’t want to see published, especially if you have only ever met the recipient online.

Hi I've just been blackmailed by the user goergia.rossana.1 who is currently blackmailing me. We met on chatroulette and proceeded to exchange facebooks, being my naive self I accepted. Proceeded to go on skype and webchat for a bit where she "seduced" me. I had no idea any of it was being recorded. "She" then takes said illicit video and starts to threaten me by saying I will send this video to your friends if I don't get money. He gave me his name (Ahmed Nour) and phone number (212 6 02 14 03 07). He has been threatening me all day.

Blackmailed through skype

I got blackmailed last Saturday. I met her on an contact site. She asked to skype. Normally is say no to those request. But we had an conversation first on the site. So i did seem sort of legit. At least more legit then the rest. So on skype we chatted some more, before she asked me to video call. I agreed. When the call connected, she was already naked. And the typing didn't add up with her movements. I should have noticed it right away. To bad the boobs distracted me. She asked me to undress as well. I stupidly agreed again. So after a few minutes of playing I found myself staring at a video of me. That was just recorded seconds before. "She" demanded 500 US dollars or else she would upload the video to my fb friends. She had an list and all. I totally panicked. I agreed to everything she said. She wanted me to transfer the money via Western Union. When that failed she suggested paypal. Me being still in shock agreed again. I send her the money. Then she told me her account on paypal was blocked. I asked paypal for a refund for this bad money transfer(got that money back from paypal). Then she gave me another email adress. I transferred the money again. She demanded I stayed in touch. Then the call ended. After a few minutes while my head cleared I changed all my passwords. Blocked her on skype. Reported the email adresses to Google.(they were both gmail) gor an Google alert for my name. Deactivated my fb. The worst thing for me isn't the money.(PayPal asked for an survey for my transaction, I explaned everything to them as well, so i could get all my money back after all) but the fact I was getting back with my girlfriend again. We worked everything out and things were going fine again. But now this happens. Her name was in the fb name list as well. I hope that the video doesn't get uploaded. Especially cause I provoked them by trying to get my money back

Someone is blackmailing me over skype, can someone...

I was chatting with someone on Skype, now that person is blackmailing me saying that my video will be uploaded online either on Facebook, all my family to see or in youtube. He said he wants some money and I cant give any money as I have already gave much out so please help. I do not wish to make it a big case by reporting it to the local police as of yet.

You do not HAVE to put a © symbol on each photo. If you own the photos, you hold the copyright. However, nothing stops a viewer from downloading the photo and using it without your permission.
To protect yourself there are alternatives: put a ©2013 by ME in the description of each photo. Always add your copyright notice to the metadata in every photo.
I once had several of my photos taken off the internet and then used in a commercial catalog without my permission. I was outraged, the catalog company was naive, and in the end I received $100 compensation and an apology. - Fabini

No. It does not pass itself on without some intervention by the users involved.

Don't except files from anyone with the file name mentioned.

Be aware before Unstuffing any unknown files.
Change the IChat > Preferences > Message section option to Confirm before sending any Files to ON This may not stop the code from getting your computer to send the file without you seeing but it may help based on the way the code is described as being put together generally.

How can I protect files from being uploaded to the internet/web-based email or being written to a disc/flash drive?

I work for a company that want to update itself to this century. I got all our PC upgraded to Windows 7 and networked into a homegroup. We want to use a web-based appointment scheduler but this means giving our users web access. The main
concern is our .mdb files. We have anti-virus/anti-spyware to protect us from infiltration but we want to safeguard against personnel selling our client list; At least make it more difficult, just a precautionary measure. Do I need additional software
or is it something that I can do in Windows setting? Or do I need a file encryption service that works in conjunction with Windows Access? Sorry for my ignorance and thanks in advance.

There is technology known as RMS which you could set series of policies like only members in the company could access certain documents and if someone copy them and attempt to run them in another PC or outside company, it won't work. Take a look at:

Can we move Protection Group from one DPM 2012 SP1 to another DPM 2012 R2 version? If yes then what is the steps to perform that. Also i am running DPM servers with co-located and non-colocated configuration. What would be best as per best practice? Because

There are no provisions in DPM to move protection groups or protected data sources to a new DPM server and maintain the recovery points. The best you can do is to stop protection on DPM1 and retain the replica, then run the setdpmserver.exe on the
protected server and point it the DPM2 server. On DPM2, run the attach-productionserver.ps1 script to establish agent communications, then make new protection groups and re-protect the same data sources. After the retention goals are met, delete
the replica from under inactive protection group on DPM1.

Well, you can go into setting>mail, contacts, calendars>add new account or through iTunes you can plug your phone into your computer, open iTunes, select your device, then select info. I hope this helps. Au revoir!

Protecting PDFs from Unlicensed Sharing

Hi all,
I'm aware Acrobat has many features around DRM and protecting documents from unlicensed usage. However, I want to know how scalable this is...for instance, if I'm selling training materials in PDF format, and someone purchases the materials to use for "20 users", are Acrobat's features alone sufficient to prevent this person from giving the materials to 30 users?
Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Acrobat doesn't have that type of ability at all. The best you can do is to explore the security settings available under File>Properties>Security. Even then keep in mind that it's way easy to get around Adobe security.
What you need is a server side DRM solution.

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over the last few days, I assume that there has been a problem with Apple's servers.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

There's nothing at all you can do to stop a PDF from being copied, emailed, put in a USB stick, uploaded to DropBox, or shared in any other way. DRM ($$$$) can make it so that unauthorized copies cannot be opened.
