Protecting and Tracking iPhone from Thieves

Hi,
I just lost/got my iphone stolen from me. Before I sadly spend money on another one I'd like to know if there is any way to track an iphone by hardware? This question is for a new iphone I get, not to find my stolen one.
My main problem is not having something that depends on your sim card being in or your OS not being wiped since otherwise it can be pretty worthless in a lot of instances. I think that's how mobileme works right? You need to have you sim card in and your OS not wiped.
Thanks!

Protecting - Don't lose it or leave it around
Tracking - MobileMe will as you say, track a mobile if its on AND if you turn on FindMyPhone.
But you are also correct, it can be wiped and have the SIM changed and AT&T don't care as long as the thief takes out a subscriber plan. There is no other solution possible - you cannot stop an OS wipe and the thief can throw away your SIM card and use another.
No foolproof solutions other than not losing it or having it stolen.

  • Anyone can help me fixed my iphone as I am living in Thailand and bought Iphone from apple store website but there is not any way i can contact apple staff through website! and direct phone!

I just bought new iphone from apple store from few weeks only but now i cant even make a phoen call and everytime i try to open "phone" function, it just error and stop on that page without any response.
So i tried to close that app and re open it but it doesnot woek i couldnt do anything means i have phone but cant use it as phone.
And i couldnt even contact apple staff through internet and phone call.
I need to talk with apple as i didnt bought it from dealer in Thailand so i cant take it to dealer service center, apple, please support me in this case urgently.
    Thank you.

Basics from the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, and finally restore as New.  I suggest you try ALL of these steps if your phone continues to have problems.
If after ALL 4 steps your phone still doesn't work, you've no choice but to have your phone serviced by Apple.  As you've found out, the iPhone warranty is NOT and has NEVER been international.  You'll have to send your phone to someone in the country of purchase to bring your phone into Apple--and then to have that person send the phone back to you.

  • How can I export comments and tracked changes from Pages to Word?

I just purchased Pages and tried to export a couple pages of my document to Microsoft Word so I could send them for review to a client who does not have Pages; however, when I copy-pasted into Word, none of the comments or tracked changes showed up in the doc., only the finished product. I've tried updating my software, but that hasn't worked. Is there a way to fix this?

Here is what the Pages User Guide says:
" Exporting Pages Documents to Other File Formats
If you want to share your Pages documents with those who aren’t using the latest version of Pages, you can export your document to file formats that they may be able to use on their computers or other devices:
    • PDF: You can view PDF files in iBooks, and view or print them in Preview and Safari. You can edit them with a PDF application. Fonts used in the Pages document are preserved in the PDF file.
Hyperlinks in your Pages document are exported to the PDF file. Hyperlinks are also created in the PDF file for table of contents entries, footnotes and endnotes, webpages, email addresses, and bookmarks.
    • Microsoft Word: You can open and edit Microsoft Word files in Microsoft Word on a computer running Mac OS X or Windows.
Because of text layout differences between Microsoft Word and Pages, an exported Word document may contain a different number of pages than its Pages counterpart. You may notice other differences, as well, for example, table layouts and some special typographic features may not be identical. Some graphics (particularly those using transparency) may not display as well. Charts created in Pages appear as MS Graph objects, which you can edit in Microsoft Word.
    • RTF: You can open and edit RTF files in many different word processors. RTF files retain most of the text formatting and graphics.
    • Plain text: You can open and edit plain text files in many text editing applications, such as TextEdit. Exporting to plain text removes all document and text formatting, and images aren’t exported. ePub: You can open ePub files for reading in the iBooks application on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, or in any ePub file reader. After you export your document to ePub format, you must transfer it to your device to read it in iBooks. To learn more about optimizing a document for ePub format, exporting it, and transferring it to your device, see “Creating an ePub Document to Read in iBooks” on page 257.
If your Pages document is password-protected, the password-protection is removed from the new file that's created upon export. However, if you export to the PDF file format, you can apply a new password at the time of export. "

  • How can I manage 2 iPods and an iPhone from one laptop?

I have replaced my laptop, upgraded my phone to an iPhone, replaced a broken iPod screen that was broken within the first month of purchase from Apple direct and Apple has not been any help in assisting me with getting all of this syncronized.  I cannot even get access to a PERSON one time to set this all up.
I have changed my passwords so many times that one of the iPods (the NEWEST VERSION) has been out of use for over 4 months!  I am so disgusted with all of this.  We are sharing music we don't even like because we cannot listen to our own music.  It was never this difficult with our old mp3 devices!
Is there anyone who can help me???
I have a mentally handicapped 20 year old grandson that loves his iPod.  It was one of his Christmas gifts last year and it was damaged when he dropped it on the school bus last winter.  I had to pay almost $100 to have the screen replaced, but could not afford to do it until this past spring. By then I had forgotten his passwords and had to set up a new email.  Then, my computer had to be replaced and we were without internet for some time.  By the time we needed the password again, I could not locate it.  Now I have to start over!  This seems to be only a problem with Apple.  He has a Kindle Fire and we do not have this problem with Amazon.
My husband is a painting contractor.  I thought I was doing him a great favor by giving him an iPod as a gift.  But that has also been a disaster.  He can't listen to his music because I cannot separate his music files from our master file. I wish I had just bought him a new mp3 player instead of an iPod.
PLEASE HELP!!!    DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REACH A REP FROM APPLE???
...LIKE A LIVE PERSON???  I DON'T LIVE NEAR A CITY. I'M IN RURAL SOUTHERN OHIO.

  • Protecting and tracking PDF documents?

    Hello!
We are about to build our new website and need to find a solution to make downloadable PDF documents available for both clients and registered members of our (3) new website(s).
A colleague I spoke to, however, told me that we need to find a solution of some sort to protect against unwanted distribution of the PDF documents that we make available through our website(s).
Initially, I had no idea of how to do this since this is a major issue for companies around the globe that are already struggling with piracy, but he then mentioned something about the Adobe Tracker software.
Does anyone know if that is possible through Adobe Tracker? I've read a bit about this software, but it seemed very vague on what it is it really does?
Perhaps any expert Adobe Acrobat users in here can help me with some answers on this particular topic.
    Thank you very much!

    Thanks, Dave.
I am about to start building our new company website on the WordPress platform, and we would like to add a feature that enables registered users to be able to download select PDF documents that we will offer to our clients, users, etc.
We are just looking for some fairly efficient way of protecting these PDF documents. I have found a plugin for WordPress called 'WP PDF Stamper', maybe that will help us a bit with this issue.
I guess we could make it work with doing it two ways:
    1) Require user registration in order to gain download privileges (items are "free", but then we at least get some information about our users in return for the "free" items we provide)
    2) Secure & Watermark our PDF documents to ensure that the content cannot be copied nor printed.
How does that sound? Something I'm missing?
    Cheers!

  • How can I easily manage different libraries of music between my iPad and my iPhone from the same computer?

My 32 GB iPad stores much more data than my 16 GB iPhone... clearly. But I want to be able to easily sync these two seperate devices with two different sets of music from my iTunes. As it stands now, my iPad will always have the same amount of music as my iPhone because my iPhone is maxed out and the two devices are synced on the same computer from the same library. Do you understand where I'm coming from? Let me know if you need clarification.
I want to be able to have my iPhone filled with individual songs, whereas my iPad would have the full albums. There doesn't seem to be an efficient way to do this with one computer. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

It can be done very easily actually. I do it with three different iDevices.
Connect the iDevice to your PC and launch iTunes. Select the iDevice from the left sidebar of the iTunes window. Then click on the Music Tab. Select only the music that you want on that particular iDevice and then sync the device with those selections.
Do the same thing with the other iDevice. When you sync with iTunes the next time, iTunes will remember the music that was synced to that device.
Make sure that you uncheck Sync Entire Music Library and check Sync Selected playlists, albums, etc and then select all of the music for each device.
When you make changes to the current configuartion on the iPad - you will have to click on Apply in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.

  • How do I protect and embedded database from reverse engineering, hackers?

    Hello,
I have an application that needs to be shipped to the customers with an embedded database that consists of critical application dependent data. The problem is that this data is top-secret information that for no reason should get in the hands of someone else because all the company value lies in this data. So my question is:
How can I protect this data that are being shipped embedded in the application from hackers, reverse engineering etc? Is it even possible?
Or is it secure enough to have the database credentials stored in the source code? Can reverse engineering get these credentials from the compiled application?

    Is it even possible?No.

  • How can I export comments and tracked changes from Pages to PDF?

    Hello,
I would like to know how I can export my pages document to a pdf that still keeps the comments I had made in the pages version. I am using the latest version of Pages by the way.
    Thanks in advance...

Last week I printed a Pages '09 document to PDF and it carried over all the comments and marked up changes.  This week I foolishly updated to Pages 5 and it won't do this anymore.  If you need to print to PDF and get the comments in the document, you have to switch back to Pages '09, which I am doing tomorrow.  Cannot believe they gutted Pages like this.

  • Will everything be erased from my iPhone if I 'erased iPhone from find my iPhone'?

My iPhone recently stopped wroking because the lock button didnt work anymore, but I didn't find out until I took it to get fixed. I called in to my provider to get a new one (but they weren't able to send me a new one, so I still have the same one) and they told me to go to icloud.com and erase iPhone from find my iPhone. I got it all fixed but I'm worried that once I connect my phone to my iTune library it's going to erase everything on my phone. Is there anyway I can cancel the request to erase?  It says
    someone help!!

What if I delete find my iphone app, will it still delete everything?
    Yes..
The FindMyiPhone app is for finding your iPhone (or someone else's iPhone). If your iPhone is in your hands, you really don't need the app to find it.

  • Is it possible to automate tracking info from a local db to bc?

    Hi
I would love to automate our AWB and TRACKING URL from our local database into BC.
Is there a method of doing this using WebServices?
I want to send three values to BC - invoice #,  AWB, and tracking URL.
    Any recommendations or case studies?
    much appreciated, thanks!

    Spookie,
You can update an order or CRM form (attached to order) via the webservices API, you can send any and all the data you need. You'll have to setup a system a middle man server (or use your existing backend) to download the order and match it to the BC order and on a timer or when the data is available from your other system update the order on BC. I've done this with for a customer and Fedex to give real time tracking numbers within 1 min of the order placed.

  • Itunes doesnt grab the track names from Cd's

It used to, but iTunes no longer gets the track names from a CD when I attemp to import. It recognizes the CD name, but not the individual songs. They show as "Track 01", "Track 02", etc... I then try to get "get track names for CD's" through iTunes and it says, "unable to connect to the CDDB server".
    any help?

iTunes actually does not get the track names from the CDs themselves. iTunes instead connects through the Internet to the Gracenote CDDB server and gets the album and track information from there. So when you import a CD, your system needs to be connected to the Internet. If it's not, that's your problem.
If it is connected to the Internet, check your firewall(s) to make sure that that the CDDB site (gracenote.com, at least) is allowed in the firewall settings.
For more information, look for "gracenote" or "CDDB" in the iTunes Help.
    Hope this helps.

  • Stop iphone from dimming

I'm looking for a way to stop the iPhone from dimming after a short period (specifically, when navigating via Google Maps).
I've tried turning Auto-lock to "Never" but that doesn't seem to do quite what I want, or at least not all that I want: it prevents the screen from going totally black and the iPhone from locking, but the screen still goes unusably dim after a short while.
Yes, tapping the screen brightens it back up, but the tap also stops navigation scrolling (I have to hit the "Resume" button); two taps like that are an unnecessary distraction while using it for car navigation. The only slight workaround is to touch the ETA bar, which instead causes the bar to switch between time left/time of arrival/distance remaining, but again, unneeded distraction.

Whenever I'd go to an Apple Store they would ask if I'd tried restarting my phone?  (Soft reset). The follow up question is usually "how about a hard reset?"
So maybe those aren't the official terms but they're being used even by the apple "geniuses" themselves, at least at the stores I've visited. Hard reset definitely deletes some settings...
    http://www.ubergizmo.com/how-to/how-to-reset-the-iphone/
I've never heard anyone official call anything a hard reset. What that (very old article) is referring to is erasing the phone. Definitely NOT the same thing as a reset. In the "interesting" thread to which the article refers makes Allan Sampson makes the same point I do.
Here is the official Apple article on reseting:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
However, my larger point is, if a reset (as defined by Apple in the above article) doesn't help, the next steps would be restoring from back up and, if that didn't help, restoring as new. I'm more inclined to think what you have is a hardware problem, though.
