Is it possible to protect a folder with a password?
I want to create a sensitive document in OmniOutline. This program does not offer password protection for the files it creates. So I would like to make the folder the file will be in password protected. I don't want to go through the trouble of creating a new user account on the computer, just for this one file.

Seperate folders with individual passwords on Time Capsule

I'm trying to have my entire office use the server, but with each department working off of their own folder and each folder having it's own password. I've tried to create an account for each department, but that's as far as I could get.
Semi-related question - Is there a way I can hook a HP network printer (4250) into one of the network ports on the time capsule? I want to use the usb port for another device.
I'm no good at networking stuff and I've been racking my brain for days on this one.

It can be done, but you are "saving" the cost of an inexpensive external drive by accepting the cost of a convoluted administrative set-up. IME, for one person or any organization small enough to _not_ have a dedicated IT person/staff, that is a false economy. Typically, one of the admin tasks won't get done or won't get done right (you might need more space for back-ups on your Time Capsule, or you might forget exactly how you set up the TC drive to hold your Originals and put off moving more to it).
Drives are inexpensive, and bargains. For rarely loaded referenced Originals you don't _need_ anything faster than USB 2 (FW400 or any faster connection rec'd). Additionally, if you have room on your Time Capsule for your referenced Originals, then you have room for their backup. Put the referenced Originals on a new external drive, and back it up to Time Capsule.
And then you don't have to worry about pulling your Originals through a network. They will be locally mounted.

I want to password protect a folder I have JPEGS in so any one else who may access my computer cannot get into that folder and view what is inside. How do I do it?

When I go to my file tab, brows in bridge, it says the Adobe Bridge service is no longer available.

No, you can't use a password to protect files and folders in Windows. However, some programs that run on Windows do allow you to protect individual files by using a password. For more information, check the Help for the program you are using.
There are other ways to protect your files and folders in Windows. You can encrypt your files, manually specify who can access the folders or files, or hide them. Choose your method based on how secure the folders or files need to be. Encrypting is the most secure, while hiding the folders is the least secure.
Note
The ability to encrypt files and folders is not available in Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, and Windows Vista Home Premium.

How can I set up SMB file sharing to share my PC external hard drive on my Mac with no password protection?

I am having the worst trouble with two things. I am very aware how to get the server to show up via SMB, but every time I log off the Macbook, the server's disappear. OK, so I went into "System Preferences" and hit "Users and Accounts" and added the server as a log in item. Worked well, except how do I stop that password prompt from coming up? I am using a Guest account with no password but I continue to get the password prompt. There is nowhere to hit remember password or anything. I have the option to remember the password in the keychain but I have no way of preventing the pop up.
Another issue I'm having is I have a Canon Pixma MP620 printer connected to my PC through USB. Three other PC's can connect wirelessly to print through the home network. My Mac does not find the printer, and when I manually add it, it recognizes it but WILL NOT print. It comes up with error messages like Authentican Required and connection issues between printers.
I have no password protection on my PC and have enabled sharing of all devices and folders through the Homegroup on the PC. I just can't figure it out. I am new to Mac and would love to get these two things figured out.

I have a WD 1TIG hard drive and are using usb connection, is it possible to use fire wire with these? I have had trouble with a lot of the videos I Imported, once they downloaded the file in the viewer window showed up blank and when I mouse over them it places a picture of another file in the window and wont drag and drop into the movie window, like their corrupted or something? Had to delete just about all of them and start again. Also is it possible to select a bunch of videos in the viewer window as to change the dates to the correct dates? All I have been able to do is "select all" which is no help.

Backing up password protected folders

I want to use the instructions in this link to create an encrypted disc image on an external hard drive so that one folder with important files is password protected. I've never done this before.
Two questions:
1) Is there a more current or better way to create a password protected folder than these instructions? Or is this the latest and best way to do it? (It seems like I read somewhere there is a way to password protect folders without creating a disc image, but I can't remember for sure.)
2) I use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup my external hard drive to a second external hard drive. It don't have it set up to create bootable mirror copies of the drive, rather it goes file by file and simply copies whatever new files and folders were recently added. Is there any reason to believe that the encryption and password protection on the one password-protected folder won't transfer over perfectly to the second drive? Obviously, the copy of the password protected folder needs to work as perfectly and easily as the original.

When a disk image is copied (or otherwise backed up), the copy will contain the same files as the original (at the time the copy was made, of course). Also, the password for the copy will be the same as the original.

There is no full or partial password protection that is really more than an inconvenience.
You could however use the operating system permissions, but again whole application would be the result.
I have heard of updates occasionally reverting to English, an install will set it back. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all.html as data and program are separate reinstalling will not be an issue.

Yes, you can restrict editing and printing of the document; although you have setup a permission password (To restrict the users from changing the document permissions).
Please follow the steps mentioned below:-
Open the file in Adobe Acrobat- Document properties- Security- Change security method to password security- Select Restrict editing and printing of the document

Extract data from DB2 Source and put it in MS Sql Server 2008 database (Lets Say DatabaseA).From MS Sql Server 2008 (DatabaseA)
we will process the data and place it in another database MS Sql Server 2008 (DatabaseB)
We have created packages in BIDS..We created datasource connection in Datasource folder in BIDS..Which has DB2 Connection and both Ms Sql Server connection (Windows authentication-Let
say its pointing to the server -ServerA which has DatabaseA and DatabaseB).The datasource connections will be used in packages during development.
For deployment we have created Package Configuration which will have both DB2 Connection and MS SqlServer connection in the config
We deployed the packages in different MS SqlServer by changing the connectionstring in the config for DB2 and MS SqlServer...
While runing the package we are getting the following error message

This is because the package has been created by somebody else and the package is being deployed under sombody else's account. e.g. If you are the creator then the package is encryption set according to your account and the package setup in SQL server is
under a different user account.
This happens because the package protection level is set to EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey which encrypts
sensitive information using creator's account name.
As a solution:
Either you have to set up the package in SQL server under your account (which some infrastructures do not allow).
OR
Set the package property Protection Level to "DontSaveSensitive" and add a configuration file
to the package and set the initial values for all the variables and all the connection manager in that configuration file (which might be tedious of-course).
OR
The third options (which I like do) is to open the package file and delete the password encryption entries from the package. Do note that this is not supported by designer and every time you make changes to the connection managers these encryption entries come
back.

I have developed several SSIS packages with the last Beta of VS2005 / SQL Server CTP. After the public release I tried to uninstall the CTP-Versions to install the msdn finals but this time I got lost and was not able to satisfy the requirements of the final setup of VS2005. So I decided to install the whole pc again and after some hours I had a clean machine (XP with latest SQL Server 2005 Standard and VS2005 Professional). Now I have tried to open my SSIS-Project but getting the following error: Error loading ImpNetqNewsRss.dtsx: Failed to decrypt protected XML node "DTS:Password" with error 0x8009000B "Schlüssel ist im angegebenen Status nicht gültig.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available.
After some “googleing” I found this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=22739&siteid=1 If I’m right the solution should be to use a Package Password, but I can’t figure out where I have to go enter/change a password. I even can’t remember I that ever used a password on my old installation for a dtsx-package?? Any help is welcome… Regards, Dirk

Let's Say your package name is MyPackage
In Visual Studio Go to Control Flow Tab.
Righ Click on an empty area inside the window not clicking "Data Flow Component" . pop up menu click the the properties to get to the properties window of MyPackage package.
Under the Security Area -> You will see
        ProtectionLevel              -- Change that to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword
        PackagePassword          -- enter password-> temp
This should do the trick however to be sure:
Below you will connection managers:
Database Connections (if more than one preform on all)
Double Click your connection to get the property pages. Click "ALL" under the Connection Link on Left Side. Scroll Down to Security Area.
  Provide the followings:
   Password (for the sql userid being used)
   Persist Security Info = True
Save the Package and connect to SQL Integration Srvices in SQL Manager (To Server e.g; DBServer (Integration Services)
Stored Packages -> MSDB --> Right Click --> choose Import Package
in the property dialog box
              Package Location :   File System
              Package Path -- Choose the location of your dtsx file.  (MyPackage.dtsx)
  Leave everything default.
Click OK.
  Dialog box will appear asking for the Package Password
Provide the password-> temp
You have successfully imported the package called MyPackage.
In order to create a job.
In the job Step->
       Type: SQL Server Integration Services Package
       In the General Tab:
                 Package Source : SSIS Package Store
                 Server : DBServer (Where we stored our package above)
    Click the button for the package: Choose your package (MyPackage)
   Click OK :
    It will ask the package password again : temp
                Package has successfully been loaded to Job Step. Now you can schedule and do a test run on the job.

I created the form with the username textBox and the password textBox (+ the login button)

Protect PDF files with a password

Hi everyone,
Do you know if there's a way to protect PDF documents with a password? I don't mean those apps (e.g. Google Reader) that let you password-protect your files just while you're using/viewing them on the iPad, I'd like an app that if you want (let's say) send your protected PDF via mail, it's still protected!

I finally managed to find the application I was looking for: it's called Foxit PDF nad it's free to download on the App Store!

I need to protect a page on our website with a password.
I realise this can only be done server-side and our website
is written in
Dreamweaver using HTML code.
I thought I had solved the problem when I found a really
good, free php
script (I don't know anything about PHP) but if I understand
the
instructions the whole website would have to be written in
php for it to
work, so it's no good.
The company who host our website do not offer any of their
own scripts for
such a purpose but have no objection to us uploading a script
of our own.
Can anyone give me advice or refer me to a website that will
help me achieve
a password protected web page?
