Protecting MacBook Keyboard and Screen

Can anyone recommend a decent screen and keyboard protector? I have a toddler that it is difficult to keep her away from the laptop. Closing the lid is not always convenient.
Just something that would protect the keyboard from accidental water spills (but thin enough to type on) and something for the screen that is almost crystal clear while protecting from fingers prints/crayon marks. BTW - The screen is the anti-glare version.
Thanks.

Previous poster had it right. You really need to find a way to keep the laptop away from the toddler, rather than trying to use minimal protection on it (which keyboard protectors are, at best).
I have two cats at home which have the potential to be destructive. Fortunately they are older and less active now, but for those times when I am home but not near the computer, I bought a laptop stand which is difficult for them to tip over, and is rollable so I can roll it away from other objects which make it easy for them to jump or climb from. I do close the lid on the laptop so that if they do manage to find a way onto the stand, they can't tip the laptop off the stand by knocking into the screen or damage the screen or keyboard with their claws. And I have a strict, strict, strict policy of no liquids within 10 feet of the computer (this by experience, I have dumped an entire mug of coffee on a $70 wireless keyboard.... expensive lesson but not nearly so as if it had been my $2600 MBP... hint taken)
If you can't do something similar to this, simply find a room to use your laptop in where you can securely shut the door when you leave.
I use a Moshi keyboard protector which is good enough to keep away the random water drop or two (and I mean drop, not a whole glass of water). There isn't a keyboard protector that will prevent a large scale spill and at the cost of repairing liquid damage to your MBP, the best protection is prevention.

  • HT2693 keyboard and screen protector affects display on retina macbook?

i have read the issue about the palm guard affecting the display here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4384
I am just wondering if using keyboard and screen protector will have the same effect if i put it on and close the shell cover?

If you want to try a hardware test, try holding down option-D (works for me for some reason). However...
If a SMC reset doesn't fix anything, then I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or AASP. You shouldn't be having such problems with a new machine.
Try the SMC reset first - I doubt that it will fix anything.

  • Foam sheet between keyboard and screen, Replacement?

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody knows if this has a part number ? and where can
    I get one ?
I'm wanting to know if I can get a factory replacement of the thin foam sheet
that is part of the packing materials that goes between the keyboard and screen.
You know, when your Powerbook was new, when you opened the lid
for the first time, there was that thin foam sheet over the keyboard, speakers,
trackpad the whole surface area. I guess it's more like the foam is the size of
the whole screen area, to protect the screen.
This may seem silly to want to replace this, but I have a PowerBook that's coming
up on 3 years old and every time I have closed the lid (screen) I have put the thin
foam in to protect the screen. So, the screen is perfect after 3 years.
Much different than my co-workers PowerBooks. They didn't see any
need for this foam and didn't use it and their screens are etched / scratched from
the keys, mirror images of the keys scratched into their screens.

    Hi there,
I'm not sure if Apple assigns part numbers for their packing materials, but you could either visit your local Apple store to see if they happen to have any of these lying around, or you could purchase a screen protector to do the job.
I used the foam sheet for a few years, but lost it recently, so I went out and bought an iKlear Cleaning kit which included a polish cloth which is the size of the keyboard and trackpad area, and I find it does a fine job of protecting the screen.
Go to klearscreen.com and have a look.

  • My MacBook keyboard and track pad stopped functioning after pairing an Apple wireless mouse and keyboard. Any suggestions?

My MacBook keyboard and track pad stopped functioning after pairing an Apple wireless mouse and keyboard. Any suggestions?

I deleted the mouse by selecting it in the bluetooth options and clicking the minus tab. I went ahead and reinstalled OS X right afterwards. Right now I am having to use a USB mouse and keyboard. I disconnected both prior to start up. I get a widow that shows a demonstration on how to install batteries into a wireless mouse only way to pass that screen was to reattach the USB mouse. Then with a fresh startup no resolve.

  • Can I use a 15" MBP as keyboard and screen to work on bootable drive MBP 17

    Hi, all,
I already asked this question in a post with other questions more prominant so I am trying this as a solo question. I have a MBP 17" intel Core Duo that will be going in for repairs. I have an OWC 1 TB drive formated to be bootable. Can I boot from the external HD from a 15" MBP Core Duo and use it essentially as a keyboard and screen and work on the 17" files with all the software or can I only transfer files to the 15"? The 17" has Leopard and Adobe CS3 (which I cannot do without) the 15" runs Tiger and I run CS2 on it.
    Thanks!

Can I boot from the external HD from a 15" MBP Core Duo and use it essentially as a keyboard and screen and work on the 17" files with all the software
    Yes.

  • Resetting Keyboard and Screen Lights

Is there a way to revert settings for changing brightness of keyboard and display to the default? I was changing the brightness for the keyboard and screen, and now I want it back to how it was because I don't think it is adjusting correctly now.

You can try deleting the preferences file called something like:
    com apple bezel services.
You may find one in your home directory>library folder>preferences
Plus there may be one in:
    macintosh HD>library>preferences
Delete both and re-boot. It may or may not cure your problem. It did it for me when mine went hay-wire.

  • MacBook keyboard and trackpad not working

    Hi,
I have had my MacBook for about a month and it has been great. However yeasterday the keyboard and trackpad stoped working. I have been abble to use it with a usb keyboard and mouse, but obviously this is not a permanent solution. There seems to be no connection between the computer and the mouse. The lights on caplock and numlock don't work and in System Preferences> Keyboard and Mouse there is no trackpad option. I assume an internal connection has come appart but I don't want to open it up as I am not perticularly experienced in these maters.
    Any feedback would be apreciated

OK, I have had the same problem. I had a look on these forums, but the best thing to do is call Apple Support. They told me to do the following:
    Unplug the mains adaptor
    Remove battery
LEAVE the machine for like 50 seconds.
HOLD Power button for at least 5 seconds.
    Install battery
    Attach power adaptor
Before turning the machine back on, hold down: Option Key (Alt. with the switch symbol) Control (Apple symbol with square thingy) P and R.
While holding these press the power button, KEEP holding them, and the machine will restart again, chiming again, KEEP holding and the machine will restart a third time: on the THIRD restart and the THIRD chime, release the keys, and the login screen should come up, and machine should be OK.
This is what worked for me.
Incidentally, last night the machine stopped recognising the keyboard and trackpad, but responded with external devices, but this morning, it wouldn't even start. This solved both issues, it is so far working fine.

  • Macbook keyboard and trackpad randomly freezes

    Hi!
I have an early 2008 macbook, model MB403LL/A, running 10.6.7.
From time to time, the keyboard and the trackpad will simply stop working, but if I plug in a usb keyboard and mouse, I can still move the cursor and type on the computer. The internal keyboard and trackpad only come back after a restart.
    Help please!

    'ello lads ;o)
You may want to try this solution and see if it works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
Until recently my 'BlackBook' would have intermittent cursor and keyboard freezes, although I only use the internal keyboard and trackpad. After updating to Snow Leopard yesterday, these freezes were worse, as the macbook never 'came out' of the freezes again and I had to do a hard reset by holding down the powe rbutton and restart.. Not nice if you've just wrote a long email and have no option of saving :o( For the last few months the freezes got worse and I also noticed that the 'screen-dimming' feature would cause the screen brightness to flicker. So when I saw the above document from Apple, I realised that it probably is a power management issue (SMC) and resetting this as per the instructions above appears to have solved these issues completely ;o)
Hope it'll help yer too ;o)
    All the best o' luck!

  • Macbook pro Keyboard and screen going black, not responding

  • Macbook keyboard and trackpad/crashing/time date reset

A few days ago my 2011 macbook pro running Mountian Lion (fully up to date) started crashing. Nature of crash : Screen freezes, If audio was playing it would stutter for about 4 seconds, then the computer would switch off. When turned back on I would get the "your computer restarted because of a problem..." message. This happened twice per day for about 2 days but hasn't happened the 2 days or so since.
Instead, about once per day both trackpad and keyboard have stopped responding, appearing as if the computer was frozen but I had no beach ball of death, and when the power button was pressed the computer would respond with the standby/restart etc options. This problem was fixed with a restart every time it happened.
Just now, the computer rebooted after the battery was depleted, and when it came back on the date/time was lost.
This whole time, bluetooth has been "unavailable" the majority of the time, but not all the time, and becomes available at unpredictable times.
Presumably all these events are connected?
Is this a kernel problem, a ram problem perhaps? Any help is greatly appriciated.

  • Keyboard and screen not working

    hi everybody
so i took my keyboard out with the laptop turned on to check my airport and now i got no screen and no keyboard
    help please

Hi! Removing a component with the laptop on may well have fried it. You can try a pmu reset found HERE but if that doesn't fix it you may be screwed. Tom

  • Macbook freezes and screen turns purple

Over the last few days every time I've tried to use my Macbook (white, bought in January 2010) it has frozen, with the screen turning this odd shade of light purple. It will not respond to anything when it is like this. I turn it off, and when I turn it back on, it works fine... sometimes for hours, sometimes for minutes... then does the same thing again. If I turn it back on too soon after turning it off, it will freeze during start up, so I make sure to wait a significant time before restarting.
What might be causing this? What can I do to make it stop? Is my poor computer a goner? If you have something you think may fix it, please keep it in as basic English as you can, as I am nowhere near what anyone would call computer savvy! (As evidenced by use of the term "computer savvy")....

I have the same problem. I just bought my first Mac and I have had the problem happen three times. Once just now, but with a grayish screen I could only force it turn off. Once before it was a greenish screen and in between those times the screen went fuzzy and a loud ratcheting squeal while I was listening to music streaming. The times when the screen went to a solid color I was using Firefox. The first instance I was opening a pdf file, and the second closing Firefox. Perhaps there is a software link. What browser for web are you using? What were you doing in the browser right before things froze?

  • Keyboard and screen scrolling freezing up after software update approx. 30 days ago.

2 year old 16GB IPad (Model MD522LL/A) Recently (last 30 days) installed recommended software update (sorry do not recall number of update). Now having problem with keyboard freezing when messaging as well as screen freezing when scrolling. Can sometimes be temporarily resolved by rebooting (turning off, waiting 3 to 5 minutes and restarting).
    Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks for that, I did go looking for it but couldn't find it.
Unfortunately, resetting the PRAM and NVRAM didn't work. Will a reinstallation of OS X make a difference, bearing in mind I've already restored from a Time Machine backup? (I don't know if those clone everything or don't include system files).

  • I used a clorox wipe to clean my macbook keyboard and some of the keys stopped working. I tried restarting and then all the keys stopped working. Now it won't turn on. I took the battery out and flipped it upside down to let it dry. help! what do I do?

It really wasn't that much liquid but now I'm freaking out. I've always used clorox wipes and this has never happened to me. I'm going to leave it for a few days to dry just so I don't mess it up anymore. I'm debating putting it in rice. I just can't believe that small amount of liquid could ruin my macbook

The traces (copper connections) on the logic boards are pretty close together.  It wouldn't take much to short two critical points out.
I  hope putting it away for a few days (maybe in the warm sun) works for you.  Because that is all I would have suggested.
