Protecting my iTunes songs from getting accidentally deleted

I am on OS X Lion 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.
I have set up a user for each member in the family.
I centralised the iTunes library into macintosh HD>users>shared>family iTunes library>iTunes library.itl
Music files are centralised in macintosh HD>users>shared>family iTunes library>iTunes media>music>
For each user I hit 'option iTunes' to choose macintosh HD>users>shared>family iTunes library>iTunes library.itl
Works well, each user sees the same library, it appears to be completely transparent.
I am now concerned my 5 year old son might accidentally delete my precious songs.
I tried assigning read only access for him to macintosh HD>users >shared, I find he can still delete music files.
Any advice on how I can let my 5YO son have full access to this iTunes library without allowing him permission to delete?
I have a similar requirement for iPhoto too.
Thanks

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

I was downloading $15 worth of iTunes songs from a gift card when my iPod died. Now, no credit & no songs on my iPod. Where did either my $$ go or my songs that I paid for disappear? How do I get one or the other? I have 2 of the same iPod's and logged onto both with the same as well as different apple ID's and passwords to each respective iPod and the completion of my downloaded songs has disappeared into thin air. Where did it go? How do I get the credit too re-download those songs to the correct iPod? Please help me!! [email protected]

What happens when you try to redownload them?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
On a computer go to iTunes>Store>View Account>Sign in and go to purchased history and see if you actually purchased them.
    Try redeeming the card again

  • How can I transfer some of my iTunes songs from my computer to my husband's iPhone who has a different apple ID.

How can I transfer some of my Itunes songs from my computer to my husband's iphone?  He has a different apple ID and every time I do this, my IMac says it will erase and sync.  I've checked the manual manage box but no luck.

It says that his computer is authorized, but as soon as I try to transfer anything, I get a message saying that my iphone is already synced with another iTunes library
What does the iPhone have to do with anything?
Don't plug yoru iPhone into his computer.
Do I need my iPhone to do it or can I do it from iMac to iMac? Thanks for any help.
So you have two different computers?
Just enable Home Sharing and he can copy the songs from you iTunes to his then he can sync his iPhone to his iTunes.

Yes.  This tutorial describes how to go about it: #9a - Archiving an iPhoto 7(08)/8(09)/9(11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date. For future books I suggest you start out with a new library and copy the needed photos to it from your current library with iPhoto Library Manager .

  • Importing itune song from iphone3 to 4s?

to import itune songs from iphone3 to my new iphone4s, will i be charged twice for same songs? in itunes on my 4s, my song purchases appear with download next to them, if i press download will i get charged?

You should be syncing both devices to iTunes, that will transfer your on-device purchases to your compter. Once there, you can sync the purchase to the other device, i.e., no re-downloading necessary.
Just so you know, though, you do not get charged again for re-downloading a purchased item.

How to delete duplicate songs from libary without deleting them from playlist or other devices

I'm with you verm71; it's not entirely clear how Apple is expecting you to manage this.  I'm going on vacation soon and want to clean up my phone so that it's nice and empty for the new pictures.  There doesn't seem to be a way to do this without losing your pictures in the new Photos as well.  If imported, it's impossible to see which is the Cloud version and which is the Local version.  It's very annoying.
I've also noticed in iPhoto you used to have the ability to locate the original of the picture inside the photo database.  That option is not provided in Photos, making finding the original extremely difficult.
It seems to be a great, well-oiled system.  But I would love to know how Apple envisions the typical workflow for archiving...

  • How do I transfer photos and iTunes songs from my old iMac G5 to my new iMac (Intel)?

I want to move all of my iphoto library and my iTunes songs from my iMac G5 to my new iMac (Intel)...what is the least expensive and quickest way to do this?

    For iPhoto:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • IPhone would not let me delete individual song from library, tried deleting album to remove music from local storage, now certain songs from album do not show in iTunes match on iPhone only on computer

Upon completion of matching and uploading my very large library of music (+15,000), I wanted to see how iTunes Match worked on my iPhone. I started it and selected the first album in the list to listen to. I let it play the entire album and then decided that I wanted to remove certain songs off of the iPhone's local storage. Tried to delete the individual songs and it would not let me. So I figured that I would go back and just delete the album. After selecting delete I went back to listen to one of the songs on the album and realized that it deleted several of the songs from the iTunes Match completely. When pulling iTunes up on my computer the songs are still there but does not give me the option to upload to iTunes Match.
I have tried turning off Match on iPhone and back on (doesn't seem to do anything cause when turned off the iPhone still displays the music.)
Then tried power cycling. (Still shows the music)
Then I tried power cycling again and resyncing the phone and the iPhone still shows the music as it was on the phone.
How do I get the music to be accessable on the iPhone again.. I have been messing with this for the course of 3 hours now.. and any help would be appreciated!!
    iPhone 3GS 8GB

Actually Michael I know exactly how to delete.. The iPhone would not let me swipe to the left to delete the individual song, so I went to the album view and did it there.. The issue I am having is a bug because it removed 3/4 of the albums availablity off my iPhone.. You post proved no help because it is basic troubleshooting which, if you read my post, I have already done.. I did however figure out how to fix my issue on my own.. Basically I had to remove the album from my iTunes on my computer and upload it again to iTunes Match..

  • Removing unchecked songs from ipod, without deleting the files from itunes?

I want to remove a large amount of songs from my ipod, without deleting them from my itunes.
I unchecked them all in itunes, but accidentally synced my ipod without selecting "Sync only checked songs." But now when I sync it--even with that box checked-- it leaves all the unchecked songs on my ipod.
I can't seem to just go into the music on my ipod and delete them either.
Is there anyway I can automatically remove all the unchecked songs from my ipod without deleting them from itunes?
(I know I can manually choose what to sync, but it would be a massive headache to go through 30 gigs of music to select the 20 I want on there....)

    Hey Emily,
So the *Sync only checked songs and videos* option is still ticked from under your iPod's Summary tab correct? If so, what options do you have ticked from under the Music tab for your iPod? If it is set to only sync *Select Artists, Playlists, and Genres* try changing that to sync your entire music library. Then make sure to hit the Apply button to update the changes to your iPod.
    Any luck there?

  • Delete iTunes Songs from EVERYWHERE

    Hi,
I am sure this is easy but I am going nuts.  I have over 4,000 songs in my iTunes library.  Among them are many duplicates, albums and songs I  never listen to, etc.  I want to get rid of the garbage that is a duplicate or just taking up space, I no longer care about that album, song or artist (a phase?)
I have use iTunes match and iCloud.  I find this feature helpful because I like to be able to play my iTunes library on my AppleTV, my iPhone, my iPad, etc.
However, I am finding that "killing" a song is VERY hard.
I have gone into iTunes and right clicked to "delete" an album.  I am asked if I want to "remove it from iCloud".  Well YES, BUT I also want it deleted from my computer. That does NOT happen. My PC still has the song files on it and I find when I turn my PC back on, PRESTO iTunes has put them back.  In fact, it seems to send them right back to the iCloud. Ugh!
I have also, oddly, gotten a message asking sometimes if I want to "Hide" the song in the Cloud.  NO, I do not wish "hide" anything.  I wish to make it as if I never owned it. GOODBYE CLOUD, GOODBYE MATCH, GOODBYE HARD DRIVE.... FAREWELL.
I have even gone into my iTunes folder and deleted folders of songs which DO go into my recycle bin like any files you delete. I empty my recycle bin but I swear I am finding instances when songs I know I deleted manually are back. Is iCloud restoring them?!
I know experienced users will smack me and tell me one easy way to make songs vanish from my computer and then iCloud will remove them there also and PRESTO. But I've used iTunes for years but never tried tried to remove what could end up to be 1,000 songs when I'm done.  I know I can turn off Match but is there a way to "disconnect" from iCloud, wipe iCloud clean.... clean my library on my PC and then reconnect to iCloud and let my computer send a fresh and much smaller revised library?
Why is this so difficult? Ugh!
    Thanks!!

  • Cant delete itunes songs from my iphone

my itunes songs have maxed out my storage and need to know how to delete from iphone4

    Howdy lynndan,
You can remove songs from your iPhone by swiping the song, then tapping 'Delete.'
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

  • Using 3rd party application to get itune songs from PC to MacBook

Until Dec. my iTunes account was on my PC. I had downloaded 1200 songs from a friends hard drive into the itunes account and then into my iPod. I no longer use the PC and now have a MacBook where I have set up my iTunes account. I want to add new songs to my iPod without erasing those original 1200 songs. Does anyone have experience in this?

When you first connect your ipod you will get a message to say your iPod is not synced with the library. Do NOT allow it to create an immediate association otherwise it will wipe your iPod. You will have to authorise your Mac to play the music first - if your friend had the iTunes account you will have to ask him/her to do this for you. Also, if you tick the box that says manually manage music and videos. This should allow you to use your ipod as a disk drive. Not sure how helpful this will be but give it a try.
