Protecting photos

Is there anything in iWeb that I can do to protect my website photos from being 'stolen' such as watermarking, etc.

Watermarking is best done with a Photo editor like Photoshop. Never tried it with IPhoto, not sure it's possible. Aperture should do it.
As replied to your first post nothing is sacred on the internet, myself I use watermarking and also to prevent the casual "right Click" save image as trick I use a transparent shape in from of all my pictures.
If you want to try and right click on this picture you will see that the jpg image is blank: http://www.wesdotphotography.com/AW01.html
Also here is a tutorial from my mother in law how to do watermarks using Photoshop: http://www.wesdotphotography.com/Blog/Entries/2009/2/10How_To_Add_Watermarks_Using_PhotoshopCS3.html
Good luck

  • Iweb and using mobileme password protected photo gallery

I am trying to create a website. How can I access a password protected photo gallery by using MobileMe gallery widget in iweb. I need this capability. The unprotected galleries display using the MobileMe widget. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussions. Try this...
    • Temporarily unprotect the Gallery
    • The Gallery should now appear in the list of available Galleries — add it

  • Can i password protect photos?

Wanting to password protect photos, and remove from camera roll. Is this possible?

There is no way to password protect photos on iPhones.  Why would you need this when you should be passcode locking the entire phone?
You can remove photos from Camera Roll by connectint to a computer with a photo import app, importing them to that app and deleting from Camera Roll (most apps will do this).  The photos are no longer on the phone at all.  You can sycn them back to the phone in a new folder, but not password protected.

  • Password protect Photos & Movies

Can anyone tell me of away to password protect certain folders in photos and movies. I would like to keep certain photo's and movies private. I have searched the App store and there appear to be several Apps that protect files, but none that protect photo's and/or movie files. Thanks for your input.

There is no way to do this. You can apply a passcode lock to the iPhone, but there's no way to restrict access to individual pics/movies (the only exception is songs/movies +purchased in iTunes+ with an Explicit tag, which can be blocked using Restrictions on the iPhone).

  • Touch and sync related issues due to write protected photo's

i had a problem where the photo's in the directory that the touch was pulling from were write protected. once sync'd the ipod gets an error every time thereafter seemingly becuase the files synced were write protected. if you turn of the sync photo's option, the photo's remain so that does not help. so i had to do a restore of my ipod touch. a few comments about this process. turning of automatically sync when connected does nothing (and either does {ctrl}{Shift} when connecting). for some reason, if a "verify" starts on the ipod, even if you delete the sync history, it must verify. this makes no sense since you will have to wait hours (as i did) for the verify to complete just to restore the ipod. the next morning when i actually told the system that it was a new ipod instead of restoring from backup (which i assume would only put the write protected photo's back on the ipod) i did all the settings again, etc. painful! this bug needs to be fixed. write protected files should not screw up your ipod or syncing. one final question, are there and licensing ramifications on a restore with a new setup (instead of from backup)? the older ipod name still shows in devices. is it safe to delete the backup at this point?
    thanks

I do not recall anyone else specifically mentions this but other users have reported problems with wifi sync and maybe that was the reason.

  • Password protect photos

Is there a way to protect selected photo files with a password?

TD - You seem to have an extraordinary hostility in your Discussions with repeated efforts to insult others; maybe some counciling would be of benefit. I'm here to Discuss problems, kinks, bugs, issues and to seek SOLUTIONS.
But, to reply anyhow: Re: Was I  suggesting that iPhoto Buddy is unaware of the numbering of iPhoto versions?
No. I was responding to the superfluous,
issue you brought up suggesting that the product was not compatible with the current version of IPhoto and/or OS 10.7.3.
I don't know where you got that idea -- not from anything I posted.
And I, oibviously (D'uh!) was going to use it, had started to use it.
But you raised that issue and you were wrong in that needless suggestion, taking the topic unnecessarily
down a dead-end street of your own imagination; not reality.
Think about that. It would be, is easy enough to have downloaded the free product and see
if it works or not -- but you start with disparagement and ill-will.
Thus, to responding to that false, uncalled for, useless and worthless tangent --- I was suggesting that maybe YOU were unaware of the numbering of iPhoto versions.
Or you picked up wrong info -- or you hadn't had hands on experience with the free program which would show it obviously worked.
After responding to that unnecessary dispersion we get to the actual feature of Password protection. You noticed it works.
You then notice there was a way around it. Hilarious!
Hard to believe you left your 'secret' pictures folder in the Pictures folder.
My 'secret photo library' (of my old, previous Fat Pics) is hidden deep away in the bowels of the Finder with a deceptive name (i.e., not called "Embaressing Fat Pics). This has to be done when first setting up the Library.
And I'll be sure not to tell you where it is.
And try to keep a civil tongue in your mouth.
If you want to engange in pre-teen forum hostility, maybe get into gaming. But if you want to help others solve problems, maybe adjust your attitude.

  • Password protect photo's on Mac Air

Can i password protect all my photo's on my Air so that in order to view iphoto, a password has to be entered?
    Thank you,

Not directly. Remember, your computer's account itself is passworded and you can use System Preferences > Security to set a password on sleep and screen saver which will require a password to wake up the computer or stop the screen saver. If that doesn't suffice then your other option is to place your picture library in an encrypted disk image using Disk Utility. After doing this you'll have to delete the original iPhoto library and then always remember to mount the disk image before starting iPhoto. (Which is something of a pain.) The first option should suffice.

  • Protecting Photos in IWeb Webpage

Is there additional ways to protect your photos from being downloaded from your webpage other than the Password Inspector button?

    Perri
I'm relatively new to the subject of image protection on the internet but what I can tell you so far is that there are many documents on the internet which list the various methods one can use to make it more difficult to steal images, these include things like watermarking; copyright notices, right click disabling, cloaking the image with a transparent GIF, source code encryption and so on.
One such document you will find here:
    http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPArticle.asp?ID=41
Unfortunately, the conclusion many arrive at is there is no foolproof way to proect your images - if they are no the net they can be taken.
I'm still researching myself and i've just posted a question here about encryption. If you find any useful info./links please post them
    Good luck Barry

  • Protecting photos with watermark or "lock"

I would like to protect my photos on my Web site so that they cannot be copied. I have heard that I can watermark them in a way that doesn't show on the Web site but will show up if someone tries to copy them... is that possible? Or is there a way to lock the photos so they can't be copied at all?
    Laure

The invisible watermark method is one where text is added to a photo in a manner that it can't be seen by the naked eye but it can by a special application (http://www.dphotojournal.com/adding-invisible-watermark-to-your-photos/).
With a 3rd party editor like Photoshop Elements you can put varying TEXT on a photo.
You might be able to do it with one of the watermarking applications found thru a search at VersionTracker.com (search for "watermark") if you have a transparent image of your watermark available to apply by those applicatons.
The sizes of photos that end up in iWeb (except for those in a album or gallery where you set the download size large) is at a max of 800 x 600 pixels and not suitable for decent printing at much above 4 x 3 inches.

  • Protecting Photos (Read Only)

What is the best way of protecting my photos so that they are not accidentally altered.
Can I make a folder and all its subfolders/files read only? Or is there a better way on OS X?

iPotential, there’s more than one way to protect your photos from accidental alteration; only you can decide which way is best for you. You can choose between
    • uninstalling all software that can alter photos;
    • keeping unaltered copies of your photos on offline devices (e.g. SD cards);
    • removing writable permissions from the photo files.
    • follow Király’s excellent suggestion!
You could even choose to take all of these actions! ;*)
From the Finder, you could probably Get Info on the folder to remove writable permissions from the folder, but I don’t know if it also offers the option to remove writable permissions from everything below it. From Terminal, the command *chmod -R a-w folder* would remove writable permissions from folder and everything below it.

  • Just synced my 3GS and loaded new 5.0. my apps which were password protected photos and another for credit card info did not transfer back to phone. Where are they?

Just synched my 3GS and loaded 5.0. My photo vault and credit card vault secure apps are gone. Any idea how to recover or where they might be?

If for some reason you failed to transfer them to your computer before updating, then you would have to redownload them.

  • Lync 2013 Display photos do no display correctly internally

Hey guys, really need some help with this one so I will provide as much detail as possible (sorry for the lengthy post):
We have Lync 2013, Exchange 2010 and AD is at a 2003 functional level.
We are experiencing issues where Lync photos are not updating correctly in the internal clients. I have checked the pre-reqs; Replicate this attribute to the Global Catalog
is set for the ThumbnailPhoto attribute. We are also forcing photos from AD only (or no photo) by setting the following:
    "Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity PhotosControl -DisplayPhoto PhotosFromADOnly"
and finally we are setting the photo in ad using this PS command:
"Import-RecipientDataProperty -Identity "Test User" -Picture -FileData ([Byte[]]$(Get-Content -Path "C:\pictures\testuser.jpg" -Encoding Byte -ReadCount 0))"
The pictures being uploaded are under 10KB in size. The initial upload of a photo for a user (IE: a new user that doesn't already have a photo) will generally be displayed in both Outlook and Lync within 24 hours. When we try to update a photo for a user who
already has a photo it updates within Outlook but never updates on Lync clients. I have also manually tried running the "Update-CsAddressBook" command from Lync and waiting 24hours + but the photo will not update in Lync client. Another interesting
thing I've found, anyone who set up their Lync in last month or two do not see their OWN photo within Lync (it just shows the default gray/white man) both in the main window and the chat although others can see it.
I was able to find that on our Lync file store, the cached contacts/photos are being updated daily (as expected) and actually contain the correct photos. I confirmed this be using abserver.exe on the .lsabs file and then locating the contactID for a few users
I know are not updating properly. Once I have their contact ID I simply look for their .photo file in the cached files, copy it out to a different location and change it to a .jpeg. To my surprise the photos are actually the correctly updated ones, so why
are these no getting to the users/clients? I have gone through and deleted my local cache folder as well as the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync but unfortunately no change on my Client.
Another piece of the puzzle; We just implemented a Reverse Proxy to handle mobility with Lync. During my testing I did get Lync client for android running and low and behold the pictures are actually correct on my mobile device!!
We are planning to upgrade Exchange from 2010 to 2013 and I hoping that leveraging the Hi-Def photo capabilities for Lync 2013 with Exchange 2013 may fix this issue but I would rather try to get it resolved then hope for the best.

Can you see the pictures being cached in \users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]\Photo ?  You can see me poking around in a pic here for reference:

If you rename to jpg you should see if they're new or old.
I'd like to see if you switch a few users to websearchonly for ABS info, if it would make a difference:

  • Password Protect Libraries? on Aperture. on iCloud. with PhotoStream?

    Question: How?
How to password protect photo libraries....
    On Aperture.
    On iCloud
    With PhotoStream.
    (and iPhoto)
    Any knowledge about this?
Extranous note: I DO read manuals but now got abut 3,333 pages of manuals for varrious programs yet to read and keep getting dizzy, dizzy with it all.
Extra Extranous comments: I got a pic of myself eating 15 pounds of potatoes and I want to keep it as The Before in my Before and After Diet Manual...but don't want my wife looking at it again and don't want it to suddenly got Photo Streaming and wind up on iCloud and next thing you know it's viral and folks are launging at me on Leno....uknow the tragic consequences that could ensue.

You can't password protect an Aperture or iPhoto library. iCloud and photostream (really the same thing)  don;t contain libraries they contain individual images in a stream. The stream is protected by your apple id just as your system is protected by your login password.
If you give access to your account to others they will be able to access whatever you can access.
You can do some things to the libraries such as encrypting them or else turning on filevault.
