Protection Error
I have Apeture loaded on both my power mac G5 and my power book. All of a sudden I received a "protection Error" stating that this application will guit because the software with an indentical serial # is loaded on another computer. Does anyone know if Apple limits this software down load to a single machine? If not how can I resolve this issue?

many software vendors these days check whether there's another copy of the software with the same serial number running on a machine in the neighbourhood. MS Office does this as does - I believe - Photoshop.
The reasoning behind this is: Software vendors regard their software like a book. Only one person at a time can read one copy of a book. Similarly, if you own one software license, you can run it on only one computer. You can install it on as many machines as you like, but you can only run it on one of them. If you want to run it on another machine, you need to quit the software on the first machine.
Just as you'd need to close the book before you let someone else read it.
We could probably delve deep into licensing issues here - you actually don't buy the software but rather a limited right to use it, and this sounds questionable to me - but there are better places to discuss this.
So to get around your problem: have only one copy running at one time on your machines, or buy a second license.

Hi I wondered if you could help me.

Thanks.Can you stop the service manually? I would suggest stopping the service, setting it Manual or Disabled, rebooting, and then run the uninstaller again. Hopefully you won't have to resort to uninstalling the service manually.

Kern protection error from Call of Duty 2 game
Hey everyone, I was told if anyone could help me it would be on here.
Over the last few weeks I started getting the odd kern protection error while playing my Call of Duty 2 game. I have had this game for years and this had never happened before. Over the last week, it now occurs EVERY time I play the game. I sometimes can get 5 minutes in the game before it crashes and sometimes it is only seconds.
I have OS X version 10.4.11 on 24 inch iMac
2.16 GHz intel Core 2 Duo
1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have run the Hardware Test disk and it found no issues.
I thought it may be my gpu overheating but was told the temps are in normal ranges. Here is a sample of the temps immediately after the error:

I also ran MemTest on the machine and everything came back OK.
I had installed MacScan a few weeks ago so removed it, still no improvement.
I also installed StartupSoundPref a few weeks ago and still have that installed.
I am out of ideas and the wife is concerned because I wander around the house aimlessly. Any input appreciated.

I will explain step by step, to be sure that I am forgetting something or doing something wrong.
1-After assembled the system,turned on, went to the bios to do same basic changes(fsb=100, enable v8237 sata-ide controller, boot devices ,....)
2-boot from STARTUP disk (w98se), fidsk, format c.
3-Installed Windows 98se(at the end I got two yellow quetion mark, at device manager tab:PCI RAID CTRL and PCI UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS. Left as is and go fwd.
4-Installed VIA Chipset 4in1 drivers( w98se working fine, but still using windows default VGA driver)
5-HERE BEGIN THE PROBLEM..After install the driver for the video card(the last one downloaded from the site (http://www.xfxforce.com/product_view.php?sku=PVT34KNT), the system ask for reboot, and give a msg WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR, YOU NEED RESTART YOU PC. the same happens if restart, from the cold.
6-For Troubleshooting purposes I did:
-Installed video card at ASUS BOARD A7S333, works fine with the same drive that failed before.
-Installed video driver before install 4in1. Still the same error.
note-every time I reinstall , I did a fresh install, means format c,boot from startup disk,install w98se from cd)
ANOTHER THING:Once time, just after install w98se, I installed Partition Magic 8, with intention of create an extended partition to copy all necessary programs in there, that way avoiding changing CD´s anyway, for my surprise Partition Magic didn´t recognize the sata drive that is normally recognize by windows(PM8 program itself is good , I am sure that)
What is be happening? It looks like same conflict issue between my mobo and Nvidia video driver!!!! Did I something wrong?
and about PM8 should I do anything related to the drivers or bios, before load PM8?

gilWindows 98/98se doesen't support more than 512 Mb. memory. Take off one module and all should go OK.

Latest Security Updates cause Data Execution Protection errors
Since the latest Windows updates I have been inundated with Data Execution Protection errors in IE 11. I have tired the troubleshoot of tuning off add-ons but the error continues. I only have Norton 360 toolbar as an add on anyway.
I can't isolate the problem - any suggestions?
As a side issue I also can't launch Google Chrome - it crashes on launch from a new installation.

Have you tried to reset Internet Explorer as MVP Rob mentioned?
We could go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features click View Installed Updates and then uninstall the update and check if the issue stseill exists.

Write protection error with my soundblaster live
Running win ME and cannot fully install soundblaster software disk.Doing a complete install.When system reboots,blue screen with the "Write Protection Error".Have to shut down comp with power switch. Then when I turn it back on,it comes up in safe mode.When I uninstall soundblaster,comp comes back to desktop. I have also tried to install with win XP home edition upgrade with the same results. I have formatted my entire comp many times since I purchased Soundblaster li've 5.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try moving the sound card to another PCI slot and then run the installation from the CD again. There is an article on Microsoft knowledgebase that cover the Windows error you encounter that you can refer to.

Windows File Protection error when installing 9i client
While installing the 9i client I am getting a Windows file protection error message on all 5 of the test machines.
If I cancel out of the message the install finishes correctly and everything seems to function properly.
However, it is prety counterintuitive to have to cancel out of the message when we are wanting to do these installs in silent mode.
Anyone else have this problem, or any ideas on fixing?nm, fixed it myself.
The Oracle install was replacing regsvr32.exe with an old version. When WFP detects a file protection problem, it first looks at the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache dir for a known good copy of the file to restore. If it doesn't find one in there, then it pops the dialog up and asks for a CD. If it does find one then it silently restores it in the background.
So, now at the beginning of my script I have a script checking the dllcache dir for regsvr32.exe, if it is there it moves on to the install, if it is not then it copies the one from their current system32 dir into the system32\dllcache dir. That way when Oracle replaces it WFP will silently restore their previous version.

I cannot get my pc to load windows, no matter what, tried win98se and winxp pro. just keeps giving me windows protection errors and telling me to reboot. Winxp tells me there is a memory error or something. It always happens when i get to driver loading part of the install. Have tried the install with nothing in but hdd and cdrom drive.

Just solved it, though I am not sure it applies to everyone (seems like it's a rare issue).
What started this was I was I was running media manager in FCP to copy about 350gb of media from an external FW drive to a raided external eSata enclosure. While that was happening the process was interrupted by Google Updater (which is a subject of much griping with Snow Leopard users... see: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web+Search/thread?tid=16d82689186ee773&hl= en).
It crashed media manager and required me to force shutdown my mac.
Thereafter FCP would not launch while my computer was connected to my local network due to the "Protection Error" (assurances that I am indeed not running multiple versions of the software).
Spent the afternoon with Apple FCP support on phone... trashing preferences, trashing fcp system id, resetting network/modem, deleting users, zapping p-ram...
Until finally...
Sent the apple tech my system profiler info. Looking at the log he found a process involving a random plugin that kept coming up. He asked me not to trash it, but to put it on my desktop (just in case).
The file was called:
DigidesignCoreAudio.plugin
It's a preference file for Pro Tools I think. Weird thing is I think it's from an old mac from which I ran migration assistant onto this machine. This fcp issue was on my new tower that was NOT setup to run protools.
Since then FCP is launching fine. Go figure!
All you avid vs. fcp conspiracy theorists can insert your ideas as to why this happened...
Seriously, it may be random that that particular preference file was corrupted on the crash that prompted the "Protection Error"issue. If this happens to you going into the log file within system profiler may help pinpint that file, whatever it may be.
Hope this helps and that no one has to go through this as I did. Very frustrating.

Copy Protection Error when doing a system recover - Satellite C655
I have a satellite c655 S5206. The computer seemed to have a virus as it would lock on windows and eventually wouldn't boot. I tried using the system recover option built in but it didn't work so I ordered the disk from Toshiba. When I tried to use them I got an Error 0x80030309 copy protection error. I though it was a corrupted or bad hard drive so I ordered a new one but I still get the same error when trying to install disk 1 of the system recovery process. Any help or explanation would be helpful. Thanks
Hi Models may differ in the way you use your recovery discs. You should read your user manuel to find out how to use these discs. Here's the basic way.
Using Recovery CDs / DVDs / Media
If you have created recovery DVDs/media for your system, you can restore your system from such media, if necessary. For example, if your original internal storage drive fails, you can restore your system to a new internal storage drive from your recovery DVDs/media. For instructions on creating recovery DVDs/media, see the How To: Understanding System Recovery Options + Creating / Purchasing Recovery Media article.
IMPORTANT: The recovery process deletes information stored on the internal storage drive. Be sure to save your work to external media before executing the recovery.
To recover your internal storage drive from recovery DVDs/media:
Make sure your computer is turned off.
Do one of the following: If your recovery files are on DVDs, insert the first recovery DVD into your optical disc drive. If your recovery files are on a USB flash drive, connect the USB flash drive to your computer.
Turn on your computer. When the initial TOSHIBA screen displays, press the F12 key on your keyboard. The boot menu displays.
Using the arrow keys, select the DVD option or the USB Flash option, depending on which type of media you are using, and then press the Enter key.
A warning screen appears, stating that when the recovery is executed all data on your internal storage drive will be deleted and rewritten unless the “Recovery of Factory Default Software with user’s data” option is selected. Click Yes to continue.
When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens and the “Selecting a process” screen displays, select Recovery of Factory Default Software, and then click Next.
On the next screen you may have recovery method options. The default and recommended method is to Recover to Out of Box state.
Follow the on screen instructions as you navigate through the system recovery steps.
The laptop will restart multiple times and install the needed components.

I too experienced similar problems recently - used to get errors like SOFFICEINTEGRATION143, SOFFICEINTEGRATION141 & SOFFICEINTEGRATION101(Memory protection error for OLE Container) while accessing Layout of Interactive Forms.
I got it resolved by uninstalling the NWDS (which uninstalls Adobe LiveCycle Designer (ALD) as well) and then reinstalling ALD and NWDS (Optional).
With the NWDS installation, ALD is also bundled.
If you need to install ALD separately, you may get the right ALD version from
SAP Support Portal->Downloads-> Entry by Application Group->
Support Packages and Patches-> SAP NetWeaver-> SAP NETWEAVER-> SAP NETWEAVER 7.0-> Entry by Component-> Frontend =>> ADOBE LIVECYCLE DESIGNER 8.0 -> #OS independent.

Hello there.
I am using a blackberry curve 8520. It came with version 4 of the OS. I upgradede it yesterday, 15 feb to version 5. After the upgrade so far I am experiencing 2 technical problems.
1 is with the blackberry protect app. which when I launch give me this error message: BB protect: Error starting net_rim_bb_dryad_gui:Class 'net.rim.device.api.iui.theme.Themes$Writer' not found with an OK button.
2. When I enter the blackberry app world it give me the following message: A BlackBerry Idenity update is neeeded. Would you like to install it now ? yes/no. The problem here is, it never installs, tried it the whole day yesterday as I am still trying it now. I have rebooted the device, removed battery and sim several times. Still. This is what it give me instead. Blackberry idenity installation failed. Please try again later. (80003).

The Blackberry Protect program requires a valid Blackberry ID to operate.
(To use BlackBerry Protect you must have the following items:

• Data plan from your wireless service provider)
I suggest we use KB29613 to fix the Blackberry Identity problem.
Once your Blackberry ID is established you can access Blackberry App World
and download the latest version of Blackberry Protect.

I attempted to open Final Cut Express this morning and got the message, "Protection Error - This application cannot continue because another application with an identical serial number is already running on another computer on your network".
I have no other FCE on any computers...this is the only mac running (iMac 2008 model). I used a preference manager app and deleted preferences...didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled FCE...didn't work.
This is the first time I have used FCE since installing the Yosemite OS, so I'm thinking perhaps that has something to do with it.
Any ideas?There have been recent posts appearing about your problem. I'm not sure if anyone has found a solution.
FCE was abandoned by Apple years ago, and they are currently making Operating Systems without regard to how it impacts FCE.

That is what I would try - a fresh install - but your need to use FCS remover (from the same software source as Preference Manager) to make sure you get all traces of your existing installation off the drive prior to doing the installation:

If you use FCS Remover, and reinstall the other problem may be that Apple has apparently removed the Software Upgrade to FCE 4.0.3.
So unless you have a 4.0.3 install disk, or you hadn't upgraded past the version number of the install disk you do have, you legacy projects may be tagged as being created with a later version than you have and not open.

Windows won't boot! Windows protection error.
I just upgraded my mother board to a MSI and now I can't boot to Windows at all! I'm using two different versions of windows on seperate hard-disks (never at the same time) and both won't boot. I can get to Safe-mode in Win98. My system was fine before I upgraded.
System:
Motherboard - MSI, K7N2 Delta, Nvidia nForce 2 based.
CPU - AMD XP 2400+ T-bred.
CPU Cooler - 2 x 8000-rpm fans on Kanie Hedgehog (big heatsink).
Memory - Kingston 256Megs, two sticks for 512megs. (Says: Kingstort /VR, KVR266X64C25/256. I don't know much about memory.) It fits the DDR1 slot.
Graphics - Nvidia 5600.
Power supply - New, Allied brand, ATX-style, 450Watt.
OS - Windows 98, Windows XP (SP1)
(Win98 and WinXP are on seperate hard disks. Never used at the same time).
Problem:
1. When I boot to Win98 it just says "Protection Error, you will need to restart your system".
2. When I boot to WinXP it says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."
Fixes and diagnostic:
1. Diagnostic lights on mother board cycle and and say OK.
2. I can get to Win98 Safe-Mode or Command prompt.
2. I don't have any other PCI cards installed except video.
3. I'm using only one of the memory sticks just to rule out the other (tried both).
4. I have most of the on-board peripherals disabled (sound, ethernet, serial. parallel, etc...).
5. Tried upping the voltage on memory. Same problem.
6. Tried setting memory for 100mhz. Same problem.
7. Tried reseating the memory. Same problem.
8. CPU temp is well within range at around 109F.
Questions:
What could the problem possibly be? I will try anything!
1. Is there some kind of safe mode for the hard drive settings?
2. Is there some kind of safe mode for memory speed?
3. Give me some hints! Upgrading the MB shouldn't be this hard! What am I overlooking? Thanks for any replies!Quote

I am not following your line of thinking here. Win98 needs to on the primary drive, primary channel in most cases, yet XP can boot from any location, and any drive letter. So why would there be a need to constantly swap jumpers? Only thing needed is the Boot.ini file on the main drive, and it will boot from any OS listed there.
