Protection of in-house development

Hello all,
within our project in-house developments are taking place.
For this purpose we have registered in the Marketplace our own name space to protect these developments. Then these developments are then delivered to other local systems at VW group sites.
To ensure that an "on site Bug fixing" is possible" we must assign these systems within the Marketplace our name space and transmit a repair license.
This license (key) will be installed local system.
Unfortunately, with this license one can carry out not only repairs, but also enhancements (with the profile SAP_ALL in the developing system one can store these developments with "workaround" not only locally, but also transport them into the productive system).
Therefore a protection of our developments would not be guaranteed any more.
How can we prevent further or new developments in our name space and allow at the same time "on site Bug fixing"?

I have here in a system a in-house development with own Transaction Code etc.
When i open the Transaction i see the Buttons (Print / Search etc)
But the Button search is inactiv.
I dont know who developed this Programm. And the only thing i need is to acivate the "SEARCH" Button in this Transaction.
I know the package in the SE80
Is it simple to activate the search Button? Can you tell me how this works?
Or did i have to find the developer?

If you are working on custom object , its quite easy .
You have to specify the Function key for "Search" button in the GUI status of the program.
My be you can take help of some developer for the same.

In-house developed applications

Hi Friends,
We have developed an in-house (home grown) application called LOANS SYSTEM using Dev6i with 9i DB, it is a complex and a big module just like the average module it EBS.
Now I want to use the architecture of EBS R12 interms of security, the apps tier/db tier/apache/oc4j/forms server/reports server platform set-up . So I want to register this application to EBS R12.
My question is...how much license to we pay...if we dont use any module in EBS R12, but only use the architecture
setup and register our own apps? Is it a good idea in the first place.

New housing development

Hi does anyone know which BT number I have to dial to request phone lines to be put in to a new housing estate in Scholar Green ST7? Tried the usual moving house number but they only seem interested in quoting me for a package whereas I'm only interested in getting the estate connected at the moment. Thanks.

VAT for in-house training on non-VAT paying customer

Hi .. Newby here & hoping for a result !
I need to set up a sales order to cover the cost of some training provided in the UK for a customer billed-to in Sweden and therefore usually not subject to VAT. In this scenario, I am advised that VAT is payable however.
I have created a new sold-to partner record with a Tax Classification = 1 in the General tab/Billing Doc tab, and associated Pricing Condition Record, and it correctly calculates the VAT on the order.
My question is, is there a 'slicker' way of doing this either by standard customisation via the IMG or master table settings somewhere, without having to create a another partner record ?

I understand your confusion. InDesign Server is a rather esoteric product and was released originally with the concept that it would be provided exclusively by resellers offering custom solutions or software built on the InDesign Server engine. It is not sold in the same way as desktop software.
It appears that whover you spoke to at Adobe gave you incorrect information.
My company, Silicon Publishing, resells InDesign Server and we would be happy to sell you a copy. It is also possible to purchase it directly from Adobe or from other resellers. There is not exactly a "plan" for in-house development, but it is quite common, and in such cases resellers or Adobe simply sell the software without additional custom development or software built on top of it. Many companies have built their own in-house solutions, as the technique of automation is straightforward and well-documented.

Licencing for "in-house" solution

Hi,
It's probably not the best place to ask, but in case someone could help me.
From what i understand, Indesign Server is available to licencing firstly and mostly to system integrators. There is not pre-defined plan for in-house developpement (ie. You just cant go and buy a licence throught the website by ex.).
Also, i understand that the User licence of Indesign (the "user" version) prohibit using it in a client-server setup. The user can launch automation scrips but has to wait for the process to finish, you cant have a application that drive the automation script by managing a pool of process sent by a user (or many users) [on a local network by exemple]. (if i'm wrong on that assumption, please tell me!).
So i would very likely need a Indesign Server licence for our In-House developpement and there is no plan to resell the "solution" that will be developped with it.
I have asked through Adobe account for licencing (getting a contact) and was answered this:
"I need to inform you that you will have to our Adobe Open
Options Customer Service department at the number listed below, as this
is a volume license issue."
I dont understand why it's a volume licence issue as i would very likely just need one licence for in-house use (production).
Can someone confirm-me if it's the appropriate department to contact or have any information that is not under non-disclosure that would be of help (to me or other people in a similar situation).

I have developed a plugin using acrobat sdk 8, which works on both Acrobat 8 and 9. I have seen acrobat sdk 10, it has changes in the signature of the APIs.
By using Acrobat SDK 10, Can I develop a plugin that can work on 8,9 and 10 versions of Reader and Acrobat??

Well, Adobe no longer supports Acrobat & Reader 8 – so you're on your own there.
However, there are no technical reasons that you can't develop a single plugin to support Acrobat 9 & 10 (or Reader 9 & 10). Many developers do it every day.

Maintain local in-house jar files while java plug-in is upgraded

I have some in-house developed jar files which are kept at C:\Program Files\Java\jre_xxx\lib\applet. However, starting from Jre 1.4.2, there is
an "autoupdate" feature which allows auto-download and installation of newer version of JRE to the client PC.
Though it is a good feature, there is problem in using the in-house developed jar files because the local jar files will not copied to the
corresponding java jre directory automatically. I need to copied the jar files manually to the new jre\lib\applet directory.
Besides me, there is many users at the site encounter the same problem. Are there any suggestions to improve the matter.

This is why you should not put your files inside Java's system directories.
Bite the bullet and make the change - move your files outside of Java's directories.
The alternative is to develop and maintain a corporate intranet Java update functionality.

This is not bulletproof (nothing really is), but if you're on Windows, it will work somewhat.
Find the VOLUME ID of the drive your program is installed on.
That's available with a simple system call.
Combine that with the USER NAME and COMPANY NAME, and maybe a SERIAL NUMBER for your copy.
Re-arrange that data, invert it, XOR it with something, do something to encrypt (in a loose sense of the word) it into a registration key.
Store that key in the Windows Registry, or in a separate license file.
At run time, fetch the VOLUME ID again. Fetch the key from wherever you stored it.
Decode the VOLUME ID from the key.
Having no key, or a mismatched volume ID means it's not a registered copy.
This will discourage casual pirates, but not a real hacker.

Extending SQL Developer?

From what the doco states, we should be able to write our own extensions for SQL Developer. I think. I'll be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. :) And I really like SQL Developer.
Currently, we have an in-house application which has some SQL querying functionality, but also has some functionality which uses knowledge of our database schema.
For example
- when a query displays a reference column, double-clicking on the cell will open another query, displaying the details for the referenced item.
- when you leave the cursor over a cell that contains a reference to another table, the tooltip text displays the name of the referenced item
Things like that. I get that you can use JDeveloper, with the ExtensionsSDK to build extensions. I also get that these extensions can be used with SQL Developer. So, I'd like to do away with the in-house application, replacing it with SQL Developer with an in-house-developed extension (to access all of our domain-specific tables, reports, etc).
Is there any doco about coding extensions that use the views that come with SQL Developer? I guess I'd need to know about the views used to display the output of a query, etc, to register event listeners to do some of the things above.
The sample code shows a lot of generic things which, while being useful, don't help in pointing out how to extend some of the things in SQL Developer. At least to someone not very familiar with the Oracle Extension framework. So, if anyone can recommend any addition doco, it would be greatly appreciated.
