Proto sharing is useless
Adobe should have explained in bold letters that proto files cannot be shared or viewed by others (clients).
First of all, a client that gets a .pro extension can't do anything with it, which means wasting my time teaching each client how to change the extension to zip or even worse, explaining clients on how to see the extension in Windows.
Second, most clients open the HTML files directly from the ZIP folder which doesn't render the CSS (the css path gets broken). So now I need to explain to clients how to use ZIP.
Third, If I don't let clients download the .pro (which is a good idea for now), all they can see in the "cloud" is a cropped page view and not the entire height of the page. And no, clicking on the magnifying glass doesn't fix the issue. A long page will be cropped.
Adobe, I hope you won't ask for upgrade fees this time round.
Cheers
Mica
Thanks for your feedback.
We hear customer's voice and would like to address this issue somehow in near future version.

Home Sharing with multiple iTunes accounts
I have set up Home Sharing between our iMac and our AppleTV2 using my wife's Apple ID. The AppleTV sees my wife's iTunes library and plays music from it. However, my wife has songs in her library purchased under both her iTunes account and my iTunes account. Our computer is authorized for both accounts, and all the music plays fine on the computer. However, when AppleTV tries to play a song purchased under my account, it puts up a message that says "Authorization is required" to play that song. Is there any way to get AppleTV to play music purchased under both iTunes accounts? As it is, Home Sharing is useless because anytime it encounters a song purchased under my account, it stops playing music. I would even be happy if it would just skip songs it can't play, as long as it would continue on to the next song that could be played.
I've been trying to thing what might be different about my set up versus yours in case (which may be likely) you are correct and your wife's library is authorised and plays your content in her iTunes application.
I deliberately chose my wife's music to check my set up because she pays for her own iTunes account, whereas my children have their own accounts but I give them an allowance and send them gift vouchers from my account (which I thought might just be relevant). I later realised that my wife's library is also on our homesharing ID (which again might have been relevant), so I've now tried it with my youngests purchased and protected content because his library is using our homesharing ID.
I'll keep thinking. -
Screen Sharing and Hot Corners/expose bug?
I tried searching but I came up with nothing. I have an iMac and a Macbook. On the iMac I have hot corners set up to use expose. On the bottom left I have it show the desktop and on the bottom right I have it show all windows. Now when I use my macbook to screenshare with my iMac and try to drag a file on the iMac, it activates one of the hot corners even though my mouse cursor is no where near either of the corners. If I deactivate the hot corners, I can drag just fine but I don't want to have to do that every time I use screen sharing. So this is making screen sharing pretty useless. Anyone else have this problem? I just submitted a bug report too.
I have the same problem. Very annoying.

Trouble with Adobe Proto and Creative Cloud
Hey,
I've created a prototype on my iPad using Proto. I'ts a simple mockup with just a few base elements, and 2 pages.
When it syncs to Creative Cloud, it shows as 3 pages (it's only 2) and all three pages are the first page. So I don't get the second page, instead I get the first page three times.
I've tried deleting and creating a new document, nothing. Proto is updated to the latest version.
My second problem with proto, is that when I export my prototype and send it via e-mail on my iPad, it adds extra elements. For instance it duplicates a paragraph element in the header, for absolutely no reason, that element isn't there in the document.
Please advise, Proto is basically useless with these flaws.
ThanksHi Dgfors,
I was able to reproduce the behavior you described with the way the project appears when uploaded and viewed on Creative Cloud. I have reported the behavior to our developers and it will be fixed.
For the second issue I wasn't able to reproduce what you described. I uploaded a project from Proto 1.5 on my iPad2. Do you have version 1.5 too? and then imported into Dreamweaver CS6 version 12.0 build 5842. I wasn't getting any additional elements. Does this occur for you with a newly created project? Are you using Dreamweaver CS6 as well? Is Dreamweaver on Windows or Mac?

Runtime Sharing & Component Inspector Bug
I'm not sure if this is a bug with Flash or me doing something wrong. Here are the steps to reproduce:
1) Create "Source.fla"
draw a box on the stage and convert it to a movie clip. Call it "Component"
export Component for actionscript. Give make the class name "Component"
also, check "Export for runtime sharing" and put "Source.swf" in the URL. Click OK.
Next, right click the Component in the library and select "Component Definition..."
click the "+" button to add a parameter, give it the name "label" with type "String". Click OK
Save and test the movie so "Source.swf" is compiled out.
2) Create "Destination.fla" in the same directory
close Source.fla
go to File > Import > Open External Library...
select Source.fla. Click OK
you should see another Library panel show up with the Component symbol in it.
drag the Component symbol from that library onto the stage
save and run it. Everything should be fine: you should see your Component symbol from Source.fla should up on Destination.fla's stage.
3) The Bug!
now, click the imported Component symbol on Destination.fla's stage. And go to the component inspector.
you should see the "label" property we created earlier in step 1
change the value to something other than the default
save and run it.
you should see this compile time error: "Scene 1 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Component."
What's up with that eh? Seems like a Flash bug to me. Unless I'm missing something.
FYI: I'm using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 (11.0.2.489)
Message was edited by: RovertNnudYep, the problem definitely still exists in CS6 12.0.2.529. I have hundreds of source files for lessons being used by students from PA to TX, and this BUG is making it impossible to work with the files.
First of all, if a library object is imported for runtime sharing, then it shoudl be loaded from that external source when the file is opened, and flash should keep a file system watcher on the source RSL file so that when it changes, it automatically updates the library definition.
Furthermore, the "Authortime Sharing" seems to handle these updates automatically, but it requires a source FLA file, and once you set one, there's no way to unlink from it. If you decide you don't want to use Authortime Sharing, and just use the "import for runtime sharing" option instead, you're screwed. There is no way to unassociate a file from a source FLA once you choose one. This needs to be fixed immediatly, or RSL and Authortime sharing are useless in Flash CS6.
Did you guys somehow patch CS5.5, without carrying the fixes forward to CS6? lol. This is confusing. -
Flash Pro CS 5.5 Runtime Sharing Bug - Fonts
I have an issue with an apparent bug in Flash Pro CS5.5
I have recently upgraded to CS5.5 Master Collection from my previous version of 4.0
The bug is when I create a fonts FLA file with fonts embedded in it that I want to use throughout an entire site. I correctly configure those fonts as export for runtime sharing.
In any other FLAs in which I wish to use the shared fonts, I either (a) drag the assets from one library to the other, or (b) add them to the new fla and configure them as import for runtime sharing (both of which achieve the same result).
The second FLA simply embeds the outlines of the fonts, and does not use the shared asset at all.
There are a few references online that offer work-arounds, one of which is to port all my actionscript 2 code to actionscript 3 and then use the actionscript 3 font loading library. This is unacceptable.
The other option is not to use runtime sharing for my fonts. This is also unacceptable as it is a feature I have always relied on.
CS 5.0 has no problem with any of this procedure.
I have been 'On Hold' to Adobe Support for about 4 hours over the last 3 weeks - promised twice for a call back from a Senior Technician, which I am still yet to receive. Speaking with people unqualified to answer my issue has been frustrating and a complete waste of time.
If there are any Adobe Flash Techs reading this, I would appreciate some help, advice, acknowledgement, anything...
The suggestion in http://forums.adobe.com/message/3739427#3739427 that offers no resolve from Adobe is no help.
The software is used for commercial services, which I cannot currently deliver to clients. In the time I have waiting for this case to be resolved, my trial version of CS5.0 has expired - and now I'm being crippled by a software provider I have loyally built my service around.Yep, the problem definitely still exists in CS6 12.0.2.529. Home Sharing: Music App on iPhone and iPad skips from track to track without playing.
Home Sharing is working from my iMac, OSX 10.9.3, iTunes 11.2.2(3) to my AppleTV, 6.1.1. I can see my iTunes library and play/view music, video and photos. No problems.
I have problems when trying to do the same on my iPhone and iPad.
Using the Music app on my iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.1 I frequently have to re-connect to my iTunes library. However nothing will play in any mode. It just skips from one tune to the next right through to the end of the list without playing any of them.
Using the Music app on my iPad 2, iOS 7.1.1 connecting to my iTunes library is more reliable. Single tunes play through, albums & playlists play through all tunes in sequence. However if I select shuffle then it just skips from one tune to the next right through to the end of the list without playing any of them.
I have only tried sharing to my iPhone/iPad in the last few days so I have no experience of doing this on previous versions.Today
Music on iPad does not even give me the Sharing option.
Music on iPhone offers Sharing and does indeed connect to my iTunes library. It has all my albums on display. Whoopee you think, is ths a breakthrough? Unfortunately, NO. Play any album and it just skips from one tune to the next right through to the end of the list without playing any of them.
Please bear in mind that no infrastructure has changed during these posts. Same network, hardware and software.
Conclusion:
Home Sharing is useless except between iMac and AppleTV.
Is there anyone out there in Apple land who can convince me otherwise? -
NON-transactional session bean access entity bean
We are currently profiling our product using Borland OptmizeIt tool, and we
found some interesting issues. Due to our design, we have many session beans which
are non transactional, and these session beans will access entity beans to do
the reading operations, such as getWeight, getRate, since it's read only, there
is no need to do transaction commit stuff which really takes time, this could
be seen through the profile. I know weblogic support readonly entity bean, but
it seems that it only has benefit on ejbLoad call, my test program shows that
weblogic still creates local transaction even I specified it as transaction not
supported, and Transaction.commit() will always be called in postInvoke(), from
the profile, we got that for a single method call, such as getRate(), 80% time
spent on postInvoke(), any suggestion on this? BTW, most of our entity beans are
using Exclusive lock, that's the reason that we use non-transactional session
bean to avoid dead lock problem.
ThanksSlava,
Thanks for the link, actually I read it before, and following is what I extracted
it from the doc:
<weblogic-doc>
Do not set db-is-shared to "false" if you set the entity bean's concurrency
strategy to the "Database" option. If you do, WebLogic Server will ignore the
db-is-shared setting.
</weblogic-doc>
Thanks

But it's still not clear to me in db-is-shared setting, if I specifiedentity

new
transaction, entity bean will reload data anyway. Correct me if I amwrong.

Hi Slava,
Thanks for your reply, actually, I agree with you, we need to
review
our db
schema and seperate business logic to avoid db lock. I can not say, guys,
we need
to change this and that, since it's a big application and developedsince
EJB1.0
spec, I think they are afraid to do such a big change.Total rewrite is the worst thing that can happen to an app. The
better aproach would be identifying the most critical piece and
make a surgery on it.
Following are questions in my mind:
(1) I think there should be many companies using weblogic serverto
develop
large enterprise applications, I am just wondering what's the maintransaction/lock
mechanism that is used? Transional session / database lock,
db-is-shared
entity
I can't say for the whole community, as for my experience the standard
usage patthern is session fasades calling Entity EJBs while having
Required TX attribute plus plain transacted JDBC calls for bulk
reads or inserts.
is the dominant one? It seems that if you speficy database lock,
the
db-is-shared
should be true, right?Basically it's not true. One will need db-is-shared only if thereare
changes
to the database done from outside of the app server.
(2) For RO bean, if I specify read-idle-timeout to 0, it shouldonly
load
once at the first use time, right?I assume read-timeout-seconds was meant. That's right, but if
an application constantly reads new RO data, RO beans will be
constantly dropped from cache and new ones will be loaded.
You may want to looks at server console to see if there's a lot
of passivation for RO beans.
(3) For clustering part, have anyone use it in real enterpriseapplication?
My concern, since database lock is the only way to choose, how aboutthe
affect
of ejbLoad to performance, since most transactions are short live,if high
volume
transactions are in processing, I am just scared to death about
the
ejbLoad overhead.
ejbLoad is a part of bean's lifecycle, how would you be scared ofit?
If ejbLoads take too much time, it could be a good idea to profile
used SQLs. Right index optimization can make huge difference.
Also you may want cosider using CMP beans to let weblogic
take care about load optimization.
(4) If using Optimization lock, all the ejbStore need to do
version
check
or timestamp check, right? How about this overhead? As for optimistic concurrency, it performs quite well as you can
use lighter isolation levels.

We are using Exclusive Lock for entity bean, because of we do
not
want
to
load
data in each new transaction. If we use Database lock, that means
we
dedicate
data access calls to database, if database deadlock happens,
it's
hard
to
detect,
while using Exclusive lock, we could detect this dead lock in
container
level.
The problem is, using Exclusive concurrency mode you serialize
access to data represented by the bean. This aproach has negative
effect on ablity of application to process concurrent requests. As
a
result the app may have performance problems under load.
Actually, at the beginnning, we did use database lock and usingtransactional
The fact that you had database deadlocking issues tells that
application logic / database schema may need some review.
Normally to avoid deadlocking it's good to group database
operations mixing in updattes and inserts into one place so
that db locking sequence is not spreaded in time. Moving to
forced serialized data access just hides design/implementation
problems.
session bean, but the database dead lock and frequent ejbLoad
really
kill
us,
so we decided to move to use Exclusive lock and to avoid dead
lock,
we
change
some session bean to non-transactional.Making session beans non-transactions makes container
creating short-living transactions for each call to entity bean
methods. It's a costly process and it puts additional load to
both container and database.
We could use ReadOnly lock for some entity beans, but since weblogicserver will
always create local transaction for entity bean, and we found
transaction
commit
is expensive, I am arguing why do we need create container leveltransaction for
read only bean.First, read-only beans still need to load data. Also, you may seeRO
beans
contanly loading data if db-is-shared set to true. Other reason
can
be
that
RO semantics is not applicable the data presented by RO bean (forinstance,
you have a reporting engine that constantly produces "RO" data,
while
application-consumer of that data retrieves only new data and neverasks
for "old" data). RO beans are good when there is a relatively stable
data
accessed repeatedly for read only access.
You may want to tell us more about your app, we may be of help.
Regards,
Slava Imeshev
I will post the performance data, let's see how costful
transaction.commit
is.

you
should

non-transactional just means that the database operation becomesits

Keeping unlimited 3g with a 4g phone
Is it possible to keep a 3g unlimited data plan when you purchase an unsubsidized 4g phone? I do not mind keeping 3g speeds as the 4g coverage in my area is non-existent. If you upgrade to another unsubsidized 3g phone is it still possible to keep unlimited data or is Verizon forcing everyone into the shared almost useless data plans?
And if you do decide to get a subsidized phone, you don't have to move to the Share Everything plan unless you want to ... you can choose a tiered data plan (i.e., $30 for 2 GB)

Neither is recommended - unless you are a professional idiot. Which I doubt as these are typically your Darwin Award Winners.
Why is it bad to to have "+WHERE :param+"?
Bind variables. If the WHERE clause is passed as a dynamic string. this will usually be implemented in the following fashion:
SQL> create or replace procedure smellyFoo( filterClause varchar2, refCur in out sys_refcursor ) is
2 begin
3 open refCur for
4 'select owner, object_id, object_name from all_objects where owner != ''SYS'' and '||filterClause||' order by 1,2';

SQL>What's wrong with this? The filter clause contains literals. Not bind variables. Which means that non-sharable SQL will be created. This means more cursors (for same SQLs with different literal values) in the shared pool. Different sizes SQLs that leads to fragmentation of the shared pool memory. More hard parsing. Bigger delay in parsing as there are more cursors to scan in the shared pool (useless exercise) as there are no existing cursors that are sharable and can be re-used.
So what would the correct way be? The client passing a filter clause as a proper bind variable string, and also passing (separately) the values for those bind variables. But this is not easy to code, especially when dealing with filter clauses that may contain no bind variables. or a 100 bind variables.
Also, the call interface the client needs to use will become a lot more complex as the client now not only needs to build a proper string containing bind variables, it also need to make sure it pass the values for those variables in the correct order.
So why? Why do any of this? What is the requirement that lead you to this "solution" where the client can dynamically decide on what the filter criteria is?
Surely, there must be a reason to this madness of the client wanting to throw any filter clause at a SQL cursor... and surely, that is what needs to be identified and analysed and resolved - instead of wanting to create hacks like the above. Causing performance issues. Not to mention opening a security hole that is ideal for SQL injection. -
Home Sharing Useless on iPhone 4
Once again, I'm taking time away from doing other things that I would prefer to be doing right now to lodge another complaint about iOS. Once upon a time, home sharing worked on the iPhone. It is no longer functional. I don't know which itteration of iOS or iTunes broke the chain (I'm using iOS 6 and iTunes 10) but like so many wonderful features Apple introduces to its customer base, it went from something spectacular to something not even worth using. My music library contains thousands of songs. I am the first to admit that it's a massive catalog and would be surprised to see any mobile device handle it with no hang ups. Yet, when Apple introduced home sharing via iOS, they demonstrated it was up to the task and it worked with few hiccups. Today, after numerous redesigns and updates to iTunes and iOS, my Time Capsule networked music library appears to be only good for playing through my Mac. I have gone full circle from being tethered to my Mac and syncing my iPhone packed with space limited smart playlists via a cable to enjoying smart playlists in their entirety streamed to my iPhone anywhere in the house to, once again, being tethered to my Mac and not even bothering to sync music to my phone anymore (with the acception of my workout mix, which is parked locally on my phone). Why did this happen? I have no idea. Where iPhone once managed to connect quickly to my Mac and stream music anytime and anywhere via my home network, it now hangs on initial attempts to connect and, when it manages to connect after numerous attempts, it sometimes appears to load a limited number of songs, artists, and albums available in my library. It also places songs in playlists that should not be there and disconnects from my network regularly. Finally, if I don't always remember to switch back to my iPhone library when I finish playing from my home shared network, there is **** to pay the next time I go back to play my workout mix (to the point where nothing plays until I reset the phone).
iTunes Match is not the solution. I tried it. While I think it's a woderful idea in theory, it's horrible in execution, especially if you have a large library. I have a fast enough broadband and WIFI connection to know that it should work, but it simply doesn't work.
I'm really only here to complain. I have learned not to expect a response from Apple or timeline for fixing the issue. I just want Apple to know that it's alienating some of its most loyal customers. For years, I used your products to keep myself and my media organized. I don't want to change that and do not look forward to changing it. Still, I was a PC user once and I can certainly go back to being a PC user again. The inconvenience of attempting to organize my files on a PC will be offset by the time saved not having to deal with features you introduce that only work some of the time. I'm begging Apple to STOP BREAKING THINGS THAT ARE NOT BROKEN and to GO BACK AND FIX THE THINGS YOU BROKE. I would much prefer that you concentrate on fixing these glitches than introducing useless new UI features like different shades of color at the top of the iOS task bar. I don't know how long I will give for some of these issues to be resolved. It may depend on how many times I have to take time out of my day to lodge yet another complaint on this forum about your numerous software glitches. In the end, I WILL give up and move on. It's sad because, once upon a time, I grew to love your company and products.
Someday, I'll take another twenty minutes out of my day to lodge a complaint about how unreliable WIFI syncing has become since it was first introduced.I just tried this with my iPhone 4 and it also didn't work. This is how it failed:
- Select "shared".
- The "pie" start to grow, got to about 1/3, then crashed without
bringing in the shared content.
- After that, the library appeared in list, but I couldn't select
it at all anymore.
Then I tried it with my iPad. The pie got to the same point, sat
there for a long time, then completed and worked fine.
I did a hard reset of the phone and tried again, this time it
behaved like the iPad and worked fine.
Not sure whether it was the hard reset or whether sharing with
another device "woke something up", but in any event it works
now and I can't get it to break again.
Note, I only use sharing for movies, since I have Music Match
(which works *great* for me, even on 3G).

I'm running two Macs, both running Lion. Screen sharing via back to my mac had been working great and was very responsive a few weeks ago. One side of my connection is on a very fast broadband line at my work while the other connection is at my home via Verizon fios (15 down, 5 up). While there was some lag with this set up, screen sharing is now completely broken. I can connect to the computers, but in most cases the whole thing just freezes and never comes back. If it does come back, I lose control of the mouse pointer in about 5 to 10 seconds and then I can't get control back.
I have changed nothing with my network connections. Can anyone suggest where I should trouble shoot this issue, or if other VNC clients could work better and not have similar problems?Same issue being discussed here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4151334
I find I have to connect a keyboard and turn on the TV the Mac Mini is connected to before it comes right.
