Protocol Error: Unknown error. (1) - a solution

Found a useful solution to this error on Brighthand - it appears to be caused by an unusual Palm Desktop installation scenario where the old conduits remain installed even though you have a more modern Palm OS device that uses the newer conduits.
Here's what i sent to the person I helped:
I did a little research on this rare error. The issue is caused by having two sets of HotSync conduits active for the same set of data – this can happen when you migrate from an older Palm OS device.
1. Click on HotSync icon in the bottom right of Windows
2. Choose Custom and you should see a dialog like the one below
3. You should ensure that the conduits listed here are set to Do Nothing - Address Book, Date Book, Memo Pad and To Do List (these are for older devices). If they are not, select the conduit name and choose Change. Click option for Do Nothing and ensure that you check the box called Set as default. Then click OK.

if we completely uninstall the PDS will it solve the issue?

  • Protocol Error: Unknown error. (1)

    I have a Centro (sprint) which  has been giving me lots of problems. i want to focus at 1 the issue now. I restored each database separately and it gave me the same error "protocol error: unknown error (1)" Then i back up with nothing checked off to transfer -meaning it's not a particular database giving me this issue AND I STILL GOT THE SAME ERROR. i used dbfixit to check everything and it's fine.
    How do i get rid of this error.
    Thanks
    Sam
    PS i backup my data (in addition the the computer) with RSCBACKUP which is amazing!

    I have a Palm TX with the same error. Has anyone found a solution to the problem

    Downgrade curl to 7.33.0-3. There is a known bug that is now fixed and should be released with the next version. I got bit by this too

  • Fatal two-task communication protocol error (when using  db link)

    I have created the db link betwen two databases of oracle version 9i 9.0.2
    the db link connects to specific user
    when i access the table with same name as user then recieve following message
    ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
    when i access the other tables having different name that the user to which the db link connects
    that works alright
    so what is solution of problem in this particular case?

    What is your Oracle release? Is it 9.0.1.2 or 9.2.0?
    What version of Sql*Plus client are you using?

  • Java.rmi.RemoteException: Protocol error reported by the card! why?

    Hello,
    I am currently trying to run the JCK 2.2.1 SecureRMIDemo using SmartCardIO instead of OCF, but getting an error:
    java.rmi.RemoteException: Protocol error reported by the card
    (in my last post I succesfully ran the RMIDemo using my SmartCardIO implementation, see http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5405634&tstart=15)
    So here is what I did:
    - I succesfully loaded the server app (com.sun.javacard.samples.SecureRMIDemo) on the card without changes.
    - I created an new accessor class: public class PINCardAccessor extends SmartCardIOAccessor (I wrote SmartCardIOAccessor for the RMIDemo, it should work fine as an accessor)
    - The contents of PINCardAccessor class and SecureOCFCardAccessor are the same, just the class declration makes the difference
    - Here is the most important part of my main method:
                   ca = new PINCardAccessor(false);
                   JavaCardRMIConnect  jcRMI = new JavaCardRMIConnect(ca);
                   jcRMI.selectApplet(appAID);
                   // send PIN
                   System.out.println("Sending PIN...");
                if (! ((PINCardAccessor) ca).authenticateUser( PRINCIPAL_APP_PROVIDER_ID ))
                     System.out.println("Wrong PIN!");
                     System.exit(0);
                   Purse myServ = (Purse) jcRMI.getInitialReference();
                   if(myServ == null)
                      throw new Exception("Received null instead of the initial ref");
                   // print balance
                   System.out.println("Balance: "+myServ.getBalance());And finally here is the debug output:

    Oh, thanks for pointing at the JCRE Spec, it is very informative, but i still have not found the problem yet.
    If i understand everything right, the communication's flow is
    SecureClient <-> PINCardAccessor <-> SmartCardIOAccessor <-> MySecurityService <-> SecurePurseImpl (with help of SecurePurseApplet)
    probably i made a mistake in a protocol of one or more layers.
    - MySecurityService, SecurePurseImpl and SecurePurseApplet are EXACTLY the one's from com.sun.javacard.samples.SecureRMIDemo of JCDK 2.2.1, so there cant be any mistake (?).
    - SmartCardIOAccessor worked fine in my RMIDemo tests, see http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5405634&tstart=15 - there is also the implementation)
    - SecureClient must be obviously correctly
    so maybe it's something about PINCardAccessor? hmm...i havent found anything, but here is the complete code:

  • OSB proxy secured with message level protection - No Protocol error

    I have an OSB business service that calls a JAX-WS service protected by OWSM policy wss11_message_protection_service_policy. The business service is protected by the corresponding client policy. The proxy service is secured by wss11_message_protection_service_policy. Business service works fine but the proxy doesn't. It runs into this "no protocol" error below on the outbound. The system is a windows 8 64 bit PC and uses IPV6. The domain path has no spaces (I read online on an unrelated forum that spaces can cause this 'no protocol' error). This error occurs only with the message protection policy. UserName token works fine from proxy->business svc->webservice.  There are no issues with the certificates because I am able to call the webservice using a jax-ws client using the certificates in keystore.

  • System synchronization failed--Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)

    I have reviewed Palm Support Page and the forums and recognize this is an old story but the solutions offered haven't worked for me.  I have had my Tungsten 2E for over a year and an earlier version before that.  It has been working well for me until I had a problem (out of the blue) with the HotSync.  I reinstalled the Palm software after checking cables, etc.  I was able to relink and get updated info from my handheld to the desktop but with a few blips in DocstoGo where I had to delete documents and add them back to the desktop and resync with the handheld.  All the info is on the handheld but see the log below to see the message "System synchronization failed".  A suggestion by other users is to delete the "PmTraceDatabase" to file C:\Program Files\Palm\N\Backup\PmTraceDatabase.PDB but I cannot find the named file on my desktop program files for Palm.
    Does anyone have an explanation other than "live with it" since I believe I'm getting all my info synced?

    Every time I do a hotsync now, I get an error message indicating that two files were not successfully back up: "S7 Event Log" and "EX_New Stories".  Both inidcate "Protocol Error: Handheld File could not be opened (4004)."  Does anybody know how to fix this?

    for it.

    Hi, this error can be related to the network problem. This tells that the connection between the client and server dropped for some reason.
    May be there is some network dis connectivity or firewall or even bug in the software or in database itself.

  • B-channel oos and protocol error 510

    Dear all,
    I have some some issue couple of days ago. The telephony system of my client worked well and suddenly the cannot make external calls via E1. I checked the config and for me it seems to be ok. When I checked the SDL file, I can see the B channel out of service error message following by the
    "MGCP PROTOCOL ERROR: <S1/SU1/DS1-0/[email protected]> CRCX error code: 510". They have A CUCM 6.0 and Cisco 2821 as gateway with 12.4 (25f) advance IP service IOS.
    I perform the following actions without success:
    -From the CUCM in the advance service I forced the Bchannel to bring it in service,
    - no mgcp/mgcp, -reboot the CUCM and the Gateway,
    -reset the controller throug CUCM,... in vain.
    They contacted telco and has confirm that everything seems to be ok. Find below the information that can help you to undestand better

    Thanks for your help

    The explanation for your syslog message is " The B-channel indicated by this alarm has gone out of service. Some of the more common reasons for a B-channel to go out of service include: Taking the channel out of service intentionally to perform maintenance on either the near- or far-end; MGCP gateway returns an error code 501 or 510 for a MGCP command sent from Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM); MGCP gateway doesn't respond to an MGCP command sent by Unified CM three times; a speed and duplex mismatch exists on the Ethernet port between Unified CM and the MGCP gateway"
    Recommended action:
    Check the Unified CM advanced service parameter, Change B-channel Maintenance Status to determine if the B-channel has been taken out of service intentionally; Check the Q.931 trace for PRI SERVICE message to determine whether a PSTN provider has taken the B-channel out of service; Reset the MGCP gateway; Check the speed and duplex settings on the Ethernet port.
