Provide Muse UX for Typekit font/weight/style support

Hi All,
While Adobe Muse is an amazing product, the Typekit support team graciously answers my questions, and the Muse team has been improving the product rapidly; full font, style, and weight support from within Muse is soorly lacking. I understand Muse is relatively new, but here's my request for web type support like type is supported in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Sooner than later.
Why? Because Adobe Muse was made for this.
Adobe Muse helps graphic designers create and publish dynamic websites for desktop and mobile devices that meet the latest web standards — without writing code.

Hi ibhhvcc,
Right now, there's not an easy way to do this in Muse. Editing the CSS files that come from Muse would allow you to use other weights/variations but of course this involves diving into the code.
Going forward, we plan to improve the Typekit/Muse integration and I'll definitely share your thoughts with the team.
If you have any further questions or feedback, feel free to drop us a line at: [email protected]
Cheers,
Benjamin

  • Can you adjust Typekit font weight?

    So I've figured out how to use all Typekit fonts in Muse (by assigning ".body" as a selector in the Typekit Editor and then assigning "body" as a paragraph style in Muse). The only problem is that I am limited to two weights per font: regular (or thin or light or extra light) and bold (which works by just bolding the text in Muse).
    This means if I use a font with many different weights (thin and light, say) I have to choose one or the other in the Typekit editor and can't use both on my site. Has anyone figured out a workaround for this?

  • Muse 2013.3 Selfloaded Font no longer supported?

    I upgraded to 2015.3 this morning.  Loaded up a website that used a selfloaded Nexa font
    As soon as I published the site I got a series of error messages:  "Text frame on page 'BLOG' (with text 'Loxley_Blog') uses a web font named 'Nexa Bold Regular' which is no longer available for use in sites published by Adobe Muse. Alternate font will be used."
    I didn't read anything about withdrawing support for self loaded fonts in the release notes.  What is going on?
    This worked fine with the last release.  You seem to be going backwards with Font support..

    Hi David,
    Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. Could you check if a folder called "selfhosted" exists in the following path:
    On Windows: %appdata%\com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.3\Local Store. You can type this in the Path bar at the top of the Windows Explorer window
    On Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.3/Local Store. You can type this in the Go To Folder dialog (Shift+Command+G)
    If it doesn't exist or if the folder is empty, try copying it from 2014.2 and restarting Muse. This step is supposed to happen automatically when you update, but may not have happened for some reason.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

  • Using Typekit fonts in print projects

    I have just started using a Typekit font for my demonstrations.
    However, I am interested in using it for my next book but I have questions.
    Are the Typekit fonts suitable for print production? They are listed as OpenType. Is that ordinary OpenType?
    The Typekit fonts don't show up in the Documet Fonts folder when the job is packaged? If I have to send native ID files to my publisher, what would they have to have to edit the job?
    Are the fonts embedded in PDF files?
    Anyone have any caveats I should know about?

    Mario,
    There is absolutely nothing underhanded about what Ben is telling you.
    There are two ways you can use the Typekit fonts for print publishing workflows.
    (1)     The first way is to compose in InDesign with the Typekit fonts as you would with any fonts that you have otherwise licensed and have installed on your desktop system. For the purposes of printing, export PDF (preferably PDF/X-4 settings) and send the resultant PDF file to your print service provider. All the Typekit fonts are properly embedded in the PDF file and your print service provider should have no issues with printing the text formatted with said fonts.
    (2)     The second method assumes that your print service provider (or some intermediary) is going to be doing further edits to your work before producing the PDF file that you would have created per (1) above. Typically you would “package” such documents into a directory structure that copies linked content and fonts. The only difference with the Typekit fonts is that such fonts are not included in the package. But since whoever is going to do those further edits and/or PDF export also needs the CC version of InDesign, they will also have access to the same Typekit fonts that you do via the Creative Cloud software. There is no need to package the fonts from them. If they have older CS versions of InDesign, they will not be able to open your CC version InDesign document anyway.
    So what is exactly the problem you are complaining about? You have access to the fonts. Your print service provider has access to the fonts (assuming they have the software necessary to even open up your InDesign document).
    The only difference is that Typekti fonts are not available as “loose” font files. You can't install them on any system that isn't currently licensed for the Adobe Creative Cloud.
    (For what it is worth, common practice notwithstanding, the ability to package the fonts - other than Typekit fonts and certain Asian fonts - used in an InDesign document does not free the recipient of the obligation to fully and properly license such fonts. The packaging operation is provided as a convenience, not as a substitute for properly licensing the digital assets in question!)

  • Use Muse pages for an e-mail campaign?

    Hi All,
    My client asked if I can provide Muse content for an email campaign.
    If I export my Muse project to a folder then view the .html files using a browser the image looks close but not exactly right.
    Does anyone have experience with using Muse designed pages for an e-mail campaign (as to how this can be done)?
    Thanks!
    Gary

    I asked David Blatner, who runs the InDesign Secrets website, the same question about creating HTML Newsletters with Muse in a future edition, and he replied:
    "The problem with "html email" is that it is dependent on very old email clients. For example, we are having a problem right now that some (but not all) people using Outlook 2003 are having trouble reading the free InDesign Tip of the Week email that we send using mailchimp. Yes, Outlook 2003.
    Basically, html email has to be super lowest common denominator HTML. The best html email wouldn't even use CSS, but most email clients can read very simple css now. But remember that later versions of Outlook use MS Word as their HTML viewer, so… it's painful. That means, you really want to use tables and shim.gifs and stuff like that. It's not pretty.
    Muse and in5 and most other tools are interested in creating 21st century HTML, not html from 1998. That's why it's extremely unlikely we'll see anything like this from Adobe (or probably even anyone else)."

  • Hi, I'd like to add some typekit fonts to my Muse site but- ?

    I know this website:
    How to add Typekit fonts to your Muse site
    from Muse Insider,
    but it totally doesn't work for me, I tried a lot of times and I don't know what I'm doing wrong (I know that I have to publish the site first to see the added font but it still doesn't work ) I'm really confused, please help! (the fonts I want to add is Brandon Grotesque, Activ Grotesque).
    Looking forward to hearing from you soon...
    thanks,
    Karolina

    I was pretty disappointed to find out Muse didn't support the full Typekit library when Typekit became available to Creative Cloud members. It's clearly one of the biggest drawbacks in a Muse vs. Dreamweaver comparison. There are hacks available to incorporate Typekit fonts into Muse, but the "how to" procedures are not very user friendly. Muse Themes has a Full Typekit widget, but even it's not all that easy to use. They have a nearly 9 minute long video on their website describing the procedure.
    Adobe Muse Full Typekit Library Widget | MuseThemes.com
    Additionally, I was pretty disappointed by the number of typefaces in Typekit that were web only (such as Brandon Grotesk) or had only one or two of several font weight available for the desktop/print version (such as Trajan Pro and Trajan Sans Pro).
    As a consequence, I haven't messed with Typekit very much and honestly don't find a lot of value with it -at least not much of the access being blocked. So I'm still looking out for new fonts at bargain introductory pricing at sites like MyFonts or keeping an eye at some free sites like Font Squirrel.
    Incidentally, the "Edge" fonts in Muse pale in comparison just with what's available for free at Font Squirrel. Within Muse you'll get a pretty limited number of weight/style choices with the Edge fonts. At Font Squirrel some of those same fonts have many more styles/weights available to them.
    In the end, it's just a whole lot faster and easier to either buy or legally acquire web fonts either through pay sites like MyFonts or free sites like Font Squirrel and end up with the system and web fonts you can use on your computer in Muse without any crazy code hacks.

  • Can't get TypeKit fonts to work in Adobe Muse!

    HI there!
    Just wondering if anybody new how to get purchased fonts from TypeKit to work as HTML in Adobe Muse?
    I have tried following the link below but when I go to publish my site the text is still all images.
    Problem is I know nothing about code but this seemed pretty straight forward to follow but don't seem
    to be getting any luck with it.
    I was trying to use the font 'Museo Sans Rounded' and I was told to try maybe other fonts which I did and
    also they did not work, but If I just take a font from within the Adobe Muse/TypeKit 'Web Fonts' then this works.
    Please could someone explain to me if I'm doing something wrong or if there is a better way of acheiving this?
    Many thanks

    Hi Liz,
    Many thanks for getting back to me.
    Below are the screen shots of me:
    1. Going into Typekit
    2. Selecting chosen ‘Kit’ and checking that the font ‘Museo Sans Rounded’ is WEB SAFE.
    3. Launching ‘Kit Editor’ and setting the ’Selectors’ > ‘.body’ & ‘.header’ > ‘PUBLISH’
    4. Then I go into Muse and select the ’header' font e.g. I’m a freelance graphic designer &
    illustrator based in Bristol.’ then go to ‘Paragraph styles and highlight ‘header’. I then PUBLISH
    my site only for it to still be an image.
    Am I doing this correctly?
    How do I get the ‘Museo Sans Rounded’ web safe font from Typekit into the window e.g. your screen grab?
    I will have a go at putting Arial font into title and then see what happens from there!
    Many thanks

    Instead of choosing a system from the font menu, please try selecting one of the "web safe" fonts that are built into Muse, such as Arial. When you re-publish your site, you should see regular text again instead of the images.
    2) using the font from Typekit
    Once you have text showing up instead of images, we can work on applying the Typekit fonts.
    The kit that you are currently using in your site (ID bnb1odj) doesn't include the font Museo Sans Rounded.  Would you please check in your Kit Editor that you are using the right embed code for your Museo Sans Rounded kit?
    You can find the embed code by logging into https://typekit.com, launching your Kit Editor, and clicking the "embed code" link at the top right.   Copy this code and add it to Muse under the Page > Page properties menu item.
    Please give that a try, and let me know how it goes!  Once you have republished the site, I can take another look and give you some information on how to set the Typekit fonts in your CSS.
    Thank you,

  • How to add typekit fonts to muse.

    Hello I am currently trying to add font from typekit to my muse site. I am using a font that is not included in muse but from the typekit website. I changed my paragraph style name, and also the selector in type kit, published my kit, and I inserted the code on the top of my website. Could someone please help? Im uploading the site to business catalyst but Its not changing the font.

    Hi,
    To add the typekit fonts that are not listed in Muse, you must follow the standard code embedding procedure suggested by typekit here, http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/6780-adding-fonts-to-your-site
    I see that you have inserted the typekit JS as HTML on the page. You should consider adding the same to the head section of the page. For that go to the Page Properties -> Metadata -> HTML for <head>, and add it there.
    As far as the adding the edge is concerned I see that there is an Iframe on the page trying to load the banner.html which is not there on the root.
    I'm assuming that's the Edge project you are referring to. Try to upload the banner.html on the root level on the server and let me know how that goes.

  • Typekit font (Arvo) only displaying in bold weights...

    Hi, I began a site with the Muse free trial. At the end of my trial I bought a subscription. However, I've ran into a fairly significant issue with typekit now that I've subscribed. For some reason, it will only display the font Arvo ( https://typekit.com/fonts/arvo ) in it's bold weights. It doesn't matter whether I choose to use Arvo regular or Arvo bold, it only displays as bold. Same goes for the Italic as well, only bold italic not the regular weight.
    Is there any fix for this?

    Creating new text boxes and typing new text fixes the issue. Now I just have to recreate dozens of text boxes and enter all of the text in fresh.
    I'm curious as to what caused the problem though. Also, if that text is copy/pasted into any new text frame the font weight for the new text frame locks to bold and becomes unchangeable.
    Not sure if it's relevant, but none of my text frames were behaving this way before I applied my subscription; the trial was probelm free for me.
    Alright, the issue was that the text frames had bold applied to them, however I didn't apply that to any of them. They looked markedly different in my project using the trial than they did when I upgraded to the full subscription. I now know this is because bold was randomly applied to all of my text boxes. Is this a known issue?
    Sorted now though.
    Many thanks,
    Chris

  • Pls help - How can I add a typekit font to muse?

    As Muse doesn't come with all typekit fonts already included in the dropdown list of webfonts, I'd like to know how I can add a typekit font to the dropdown menu so I can use it for my website. I have Adobe creative cloud membership.
    I've searched the whole of the web and can't find anything about this at all - only about adding one of the existing muse typekit fonts which I already know how to do.
    Why doesn't Adobe include all typekit fonts with Muse when you're already a full creative cloud subscriber?

    Done!

  • Can I use Type -- 'convert to outline' in Illustrator on Typekit fonts I've 'designated for desktop use'? I've not been able to as of yet.

    I'm trying to print vinyl letters for a gallery I'm a member of and love the Cronos Pro regular font. i've designated this for desktop use and created 24 name files at 200pt. The person working with the vinyl asked if I could 'convert to outline' possibly to make the font a bit larger, I don't really know. When I tried to do this, I found that choice grayed out on the type menu. I am wondering if this means the Typekit fonts 'designated for desktop use' simply do not have the permission to be 'converted to outline'.

    Cutting always requires proper paths/ outlines. This has nothing to do with the font or large format printing per se. Beyond that there should be no limitation in using fonts - as long as you can mangle them in AI, it means that somewhere those outlines exist internal to the program so the type can actually be rendered. Whatever prevents this may more likely be inherent in how you treat your text. you would have to provide more specific info on that. Either way, ask in the AI forum for more detailed answers.

  • What does "domain name is used for your typekit fonts & SEO sitemap.xml" mean?

    Why is Muse now asking, on either uploading files via Muse or externally through another ftp, for a domain name that is used for your typekit fonts & SEO sitemap.xml?
    I used Muse for exporting my files to ftp externally a few months back and I could add whatever I liked into the domain name field (which made sense as I could choose an appropriate name). I upgraded Muse this morning and now no domain name I add in here is accepted and on hovering over the info icon I get a "domain name is used for your typekit fonts & SEO sitemap.xml. What does that mean exactly?
    If anyone can help?

  • Muse Typekit fonts

    Hello. I have a site that was created in Muse and loaded to Business Catalyst. The site uses a non web-safe font from Typekit and it was applied in Muse. You can see it here http://www.steelhaus.co.nz/
    The font is not behaving so well in some browsers and I want to replace the Muse font stuff with my own @fontafce font system.
    My question is, where are the Muse Typekit font files being held in BC? I can't find them anywhere. How is this working?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Grant

    Hey Grant,
    It's dependant on how the site is setup.  I haven't exported to BC from Muse but we need to figure out if each page on the site has the full webpage code or if the site is using Page Templates.  Go into your BC Admin and goto Site Manager > Page Templates and check to see if you have a default page template in there.  Click it to check out the page template and see if it resembles your website design.  If so, your site is likely using page templates.  If not, then each page on your site is not controlled by page templates so any changes made to the Muse Webfonts would have to be made on every single page of your site.
    Here are the two sections of code that are either in your page templates and/or your actual web pages on BC.  Instead of removing them you could just comment them out.  The Muse webfonts use javascript to add the @font-face CSS declarations to your website.  If you edit the HTML source in your BC panel on a page or page template try to find these two blocks of code.  The first is the javascript calling for the font:
    <script type="text/javascript">
        document.documentElement.className += ' js';
        var __adobewebfontsappname__ = "muse";
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
        document.write('\x3Cscript src="' + (document.location.protocol == 'https:' ? 'https:' : 'http:')
        + '//webfonts.creativecloud.com/exo:n7,n4:all;asap:n4,n7:all.js" type="text/javascript">\x3C/script>');
    </script>
    And the next block of code is a stylesheet for IE:
    <!--[if lt IE 9]>
      <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/css/iefonts_gallery.css?4005734883"/>
    <![endif]-->
    I would do this on just one page first if the code is on every page and you aren't using templates.
    Then, after you remove this code, add your own @font-face declarations to one of your stylesheets.
    The last step is to edit all your CSS files, namely: site_global.css, gallery.css and you need to remove the reference to the "exo" font in both those CSS files.  You can find and replace "font-family: exo, sans-serif;" and replace it with the font name from your @font-face rules.
    At that point, you're all set but you'll need to remove the code above from every page before every page is set.  If you use templates, just remove the code above from your page templates if it's there.  The CSS, once you update them will affect all your pages once you upload or publish it on BC.

  • Why do many Typekit fonts look bad on publish of Muse website?

    I have published more than a dozen websites with Adobe Muse and Typekit fonts. I have really been drawn to Typekit and the beautifull fonts it brings into Muse. When I am in design mode on a Muse site the fonts look great. My problem is when I preview the site withing Adobe Muse or publish it online the fonts rasterize terribly. I understand that certain fonts display better smaller or bigger but even when I apply this knowledge in my design it still often shows a lack of clarity in fonts. Is there a way to help these fonts appear better? Perhaps I am missing something here but what I don't know.

    Every OS, OS version and browser renders live text differently. This is true of fonts served from Typekit as well as fonts installed in the local system. I expect the variation you're seeing is the differences between the AIR rendering in the Design view, the Webkit rendering in Muse Preview and the browser+OS+OS version rendering for whatever environment you're using.
    There's a 7 part blog post on typekit.com that explains all the interactions and variations across OSes, OS versions and browsers.

  • Typekit fonts not loading in Muse

    Hi, I purchased a Creative Cloud Annual Plan and I can't use the Add Web Fonts dialog box within Muse. I run it on a Win XP pro 64bit SP2, Muse working properly if not for that function.. Dialog box appear but  no command is clickable and error is prompted reading "Could not load web font previews. Check your network connection and try again". Same connection, same sw, on a different pc (win xp sp3) works fine. I searching Adobe kb, faqs and other unsuccesfully finding any hint. Could you please let me know how to fix it?

    Hi,
    Currently, you can only use and preview the free and open-source Typekit fonts in Muse. In the future there will be kit integration, so that you have access to all the fonts in your Typekit plan.
    You can still use Typekit on your website, though; the fonts just won't show up in the Muse preview.  The Muse Insider wrote a post on how to insert the Typekit embed code from the Muse interface:
    http://museinsider.com/how-to-add-typekit-fonts-to-your-muse-site.html
    Or, if you are comfortable editing HTML, you can add the embed code to the <head> tag in your site manually. You can find the embed code by logging into https://typekit.com, launching your Kit Editor, and clicking the "embed code" link at the top right.
