Proximity Dictionary won't install - CS4

Hi,
I recently moved my Adobe Design Premium CS4 installation from an XP machine to my new Win7 machine. The Proximity dictionary seems to have failed to install because files that referenced it that worked fine on my old machine are giving me
Here is what happens on my new installation that I need to repair:
1. When I start InDesign, I get this message:
The procedure entry point
?CreateUserDictionary@LinguisticManager@devtech@@QAEPAVIDictionary@2@ABVLM_FileSpec@2@ABVL M_UniString@2@G@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library AdobeLinguistic.dll.
2. Upon opening one of my files that worked fine on my other computer's installation of CS4, I get these messages:
Missing Plug-ins
LILO.APLN
The document "filename" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?
...and...
Hyphenation breaks may change if you edit the text in this document.
The following hyphenation services are not installed on this system - Proximity (English: USA)
Considering that CS4 works fine on my old machine, I tried reinstalling a couple times to no avail. For whatever reason the dictionaries that were on my old machine do not install on my new machine, and I can't seem to get any dictionary to install on my new machine from the files I have, making the spell-check function worthless. Did Adobe quit supplying spelling dictionaries with their product at some point? Is it a Windows 7 thing? What the heck is LILO.APLN...I didn't even realize I was using this plug-in.
I am in the middle of a huge project and do not want to upgrade to CS5 in the middle of it, so assume that is not an option.
I can get around the LILO thing... But I need my spelling dictionaries. Anyone? Thanks. -Cal

After posting, I tried exporting one of my files to .INX and reopening the .INX file in InDesign. That was successful in getting rid of the LILO error for that file. Also, the hyphenation error did not recur (and the non-existent Proximity dictionary was removed from the list of dictionary options), however, there is no dictionary in my InDesign installation, so I am still unable to spell check.
Considering that this experiment made the Lilo error go away, do you still think I should follow the directions from your post?
Some additional notes about my installation...
On the XP machine, the initial installation was CS2, which was upgraded to CS3 and then CS4. On the Win7 machine, I installed straight from the CS4 files I downloaded when I purchased the upgrade. My files could have been referencing a plugin and dictionary from CS2 or CS3 on my old machine, but I still don't know why a dictionary wouldn't install on my fresh CS4 install in Win7.
Thanks,
Cal

  • CS4 master Collection won't install on XP

After paying the big bucks for this CS4 Master Collection software, I can't get it to install. I have 1.5 gig of ram, all slots full. Will it not install with that? The install won't let me install on a drive with 123 gig of free space, the install pop-up says there's not enough room please change location. I change it to another drive with 197 gig of open space and it won't install.
Customer service is closed until Monday...I'll be back in class and don't get out until 8pm every frickin weekday.
I'm working on a sony the runs 3.20 ghz with the 1.5 gig of RAM. I just reformated the harddrive but windows takes up the C: partition but the extention is 123 gig, and I have several other drives (with hundreds of gigs open) I've tried to put it on....it says they're too small.
I've tried to install the trial version and it does the same thing. I'm at my wits end with this!
If there's only one out there willing to help me I would really appreciate, because Adobe doesn't seem to give a fig about helping me.

How much free space is on the C:/drive? Without a lot of room you'll have a hard time installing any program even if you install it to a different drive. Windows needs lots of free space on C: for installing applications.
If you have little free space, then whoever set up that machine did a very poor job of it. There is no benefit at all to installing applications on a different drive than the operating system.

  • Adobe acrobat 8 won't install with Indesign and Dreamweaver CS4

I have a client who I had to build a new computer for which is Windows XP Pro. On her original machine I had AA8, InDesign CS4, DreamWeaver CS4, Contribute CS5, Adobe Reader 9.3 and Adobe Photoshop 6. I have tried puting AA8 on the new machine that has all of the above on it and I get a response that I have a newer version of AA and it won't install. I don't have any AA on this machine so I'm not sure what to do. She says she can't edit PDFs or combine them and that she can't create a PDF ind Word and Xcel and edit them. Should I tell her to upgrade to AA9 so that it is compatible to the CS4/5 products?
    Thanks,

    Thank you Bill for replying.
I have been able to install the disc but it tells me that I have to activate it with a time limit of 30 days and counting.  Activation fails each time I've tried.  As I'm nearing the end of the time limit I decided to contact Adobe for advice.  They gave me a download package and new serial number but it's only suitable for OS XP and Windows 2000 so I'm unable to download it.  I was told by the advisor if I still had problems to use the forum as a means of support so that's why I'm talking to people here.
I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobate Pro 7, so I might try reinstalling the disc to see if it gives me another 30 days grace, that, at least, would be a way around it.
I'll now follow the link you've given me.   Though I do suspect I'm in a bit of a cul de sac.

  • Flash CS4 Trial won't install

    Hi There!
I've been trying to install Flash CS4 Trial since its release
but always get the same error message.
The package is uncompressed and install process begins, goes
to 100% and then a message box comes on asking to check disk space
(I've got plenty) and permissions and privileges (I'm using the the
admin account). Firewalls down, no good.
Tried on 3 different machines with plenty of disk space,
memory, etc, both on XP and Vista. Doesn't work.
I have also downloaded the same file 3 or 4 times. No good.
I wonder if anybody else has faced the same frustrating
    problems.
I had previously installed CS4 suite (beta) and it all worked
    fine.
    Please, help!

What in the World? Is there anyway to get FLaSH CS4 trial
version to install? OK. I have Service Pack 3, it keeps telling me
to disable my Firewall, (which I have done over and over, after
re-booting...) I even tried to install after checking off
everything in the msconfig in the Run it won't do anything
different... Also, I still haven't seen hide nor hair of any
'FLEXnet' file or app ANYWHERE. Honestly, what is with this crazy
'install' routine Adobe? Help! I really want to be working with
this new prog!!! Please do away with this insane install thing
    please... (ASAP) ...thanks.
UPDATE: Ok, now i've gotten to the next problem: the Install
stops at 8% (Dynamiclink Support) no matter what... I was able to
install the CS4 of Photoshop though. I'm going to try removing my
licensed copy of Flash MX2004 in case it is interfering with the
CS4 Flash install... Other options may be try installing the
Premiere so that it can get the Dynamiclink Support installed ...?
maybe CleanScript...? no way to find the simple solution on any
support pages or forums though? hmm...
    SOLVED:
I managed to put off some bills and purchased the upgrade
from MX2004 and the install worked fine... go figure! (This also
allowed for the phone tech support assistance i apparently needed
too. I got a nice person after a 15 minute wait.) The purchased
upgrade download worked as far as the install went: good; but: I
went click on the FLaSH icon to open the program after a reboot and
it said "the Licensing is no durn good no more." So I said,hmmm...
Here's what was likely a problem: the FLEXnet folder (had to
do an Explorer search to locate these) had been duplicated from a
previous install attempt a few days earlier and the duplicate AS
WELL AS the 'non-duplicate' had a 'read only' status that need to
be un-checked and permissions had to be set on the FLEXnet folder
for Admin, etc. That was pretty much the culprit. Hope this may
help someone. This tech file was a help: kb405970

  • Why won't my Photoshop CS2 still open after installing CS4?

    Hi,
I've just installed CS4 Design standard on my PC - alongside my existing CS2 installation, because I didn't want to uninstall CS2 until I'd spent time getting used to CS4.
However, when I try to open images with Photoshop CS2, it's almost impossible to do so - CS4 Photoshop opens up instead. If I try to open an image using Bridge CS2, the only option is to open it with PS-CS4. Alternatively, if I right-click on the image in Windows Explorer and select 'Open with', my only option is PS-CS4 (Even if I select Browse at this point and navigate to the PS-CS2 exe, it still insists on opening PS-CS4.)
The only way I can successfully open images in PS-CS2 is to open the application first, using the shortcut in the Start menu or Quick Launch, and then I have to use File>Open to open the image.
Interestingly, I have no problems with InDesign - yes, ID-CS4 is the default if I double-click an ID file, but I can choose to use ID-CS2 by right clicking and selecting 'Open with'. Same goes for Illustrator.
Has anyone else had this problem with Photoshop CS2 and been able to work around it?
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • CS4 Extended Trial Version won't delete after installing CS4

I downloaded CS4 extended version trial. One day after using it I found CS4 for sale. I got the program and install it. When I loaded CS4 into the computer it asked me for the code. I entered the code from the case and it worked. I installed the program and restarted the computer. I loaded the program from the start programs. Once PS starts it shows CS4 Extended version loading. The program comes up and then it ask to enter the code or run it as a trial version. For some reason every time I run CS4 it runs the trial version. I uninstalled both programs and used the CS4 cleaner script. I installed CS4 from the CD again. Once I run the program again the trial version keeps coming up and asking the same thing.
Do I have to wait for the trial version to expire for me to be able to run the full CS4 version I installed?
Has anyone come accross this issue? I keep searching but I can't find anything.
    Help...Suggestions?
    Juan

Oh dear! You should have un-installed (not deleted) the trial first.
To avoid trouble later, do the following:
    1. Uninstall Photoshop CS4 from the Control Panel
    2. Run the  CS4 Clean Script.
    3. Manually remove any remaining Adobe folders.
    4. Run a registry cleaner
    Now re-install PS CS4.

  • INDesign CS3 won't install

I've been searching threads for days now and nothing i try works
I am trying to install CS3 on a G5 Mac, OSX 10.4.11. I have CS on this computer, tried the CS4 trial, decided to stay with CS3 which I am had on a deceased computer that din't have any Adobe on it except things like reader, and whatever comes with the Mac OS. When I try to load, I get everything but INDesign won't install. Tried multiple time, tried it on another computer (a G4) with similar history and the same result. I've done an uninstall on INDD4, I've cleaned preference files, tossed Colorsync profiles. At first, when I tried to install i would get an message asking for theINDD4 disk. I got rid of that when I dumped the color sync files. and now it installs everything except INDD. I'm afraid to try the clean script.
    What do you suggest?

    Hi Mylenium
After updating the adobe license didn´t work any longer for the
second time, since I bought. First time CS3 cleaning tool was the
solution. But this time it is not possible just to open the
CS3cleaning tool document(PDF)- not with adobe reader, also not with
foxit for example. I removed all adobe stuff to install again, but
installation doesn´t work for  the important components- photoshop
etc. At first also adobe reader didn´t work (System told me, to
install photoshop before:-) But after some deinstallation and
reinstallation now just the new downloaded adobe reader X happily
works again. Only solution to reinstall the whole system?? (medion
professional PC, windows vista 5,0 - 2 GB, 32 Bit)
         Thank you for help

  • Can't install CS4 on new MacBook Pro

I'm trying to install CS4 on a brand-new MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.3. The Setup doesn't even start. I get an error message: "Setup cannot be opened because of a problem." It says that Setup won't work with this version of Mac OS X.
In the Terminal details, there is the following error:
    Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/asneu.framework/Versions/A/asneu
    Referenced from: Users/...
    Reason: image not found
I get the same error whether I double-click on the Setup.app or do Open Package Contents > Contents > MacOS > Setup.exe.
I have researched this error and found that other people have had the issue when the setup process is 90% through, but I can't even get mine to start. I've tried using the CleanScript app from Adobe, but since I don't have another version of Creative Suite on this brand-spankin-new computer, there's nothing to clean or uninstall. I've also tried creating another admin login to install from that, but to no avail.
    Any help out there?

the error says library not found. Somehow the install program does not execute properly. It might be a problem of the disc. If you have a second computer or an external Drive try to install from there and see if the same error occurs. If it does, then it must be the CDs. If not then we have to investigate further.

  • Can't install CS4 on my Mac

    Hi,
I couldn't find the arrowheads under Effects/Stylize. They just aren't there here on my Mac. So, in the pay-for forum, a guy from Adobe suggested I remove the preferences file, yada, yada, yada. Did that. It did nothing. So, for the past two days I've been trying to just re-install CS4. Granted, I go to work and stuff. And I go to bed at night. But, I basically leave it for long periods while it installs. And, now, three times, it's said that the install failed, right at the end. I've uninstalled it cleanly twice. And, yes, I've run the "cs4 cleanup" script thing. It didn't even run, because it said that there was no evidence of CS4 even being on my Mac. Can anyone help? At my work we paid a fortune for an annual support contract with Adobe, but, it's turned out, this year, to be useless. I won't do it again.
    Thanks,
    Peter
