Proximity Sensor delay!

Dear all,
After updating my phone to 4.1 I found no issues with PS exept one. When I remove the phone from my ear at the end of the call or to see who is calling if there was another line or for any other reason there is always a delay of about one second or so. I did compare it with my 3GS sure there is a delay and some times I can not switch between calls quickly as it should.
Is this normal to everyone, can someone please compare between both phone. If this issue is happening to all the new iPhone 4 then I have no problem exept leaving with. But if it only on mine I will take it back to exchange it.
Kindly confirm please.
Thanks

Thank You for the replay, now I now that it's bug in the firmware. I'm constantly loosing my respect to Apple!... Considering the way they thread their customers! They offer too much restrictions, and problems!

  • 4.1 update completely screwed my proximity sensor

I have an iPhone 4 and never suffered any issue with the proximity sensor.
After the 4.1 update the behavior is totally random. I make several calls and I saw
the screen turn on and off permanently with the phone a half an inch of my head.
I also noted that the apparently solution implemented by Apple to solve this issue
is add some delay in the operation of the sensor. I see that the response is slow.
Any one with this problem too?
    Thanks!

Test 3 is the main test, simply because it is fairly consistent and is one of the quickest ways to get the worst results. The other tests are essentially variations, such as the one where it shows the problem even if you don't move it fast after the screen comes on.
You're the first one to provide feedback with something besides 4.1 so I really appreciate it.
Okay, so it turns off between 1.25 and 1.5. Almost every test I've done or I've seen reported with 4.1 has it turn off at 2 inches. I have had as high as 2.5 once and been a bit below 2 a couple times. If I ever got down to 1.5, it was only once.
This fits various comments made when the phone first came out - that the screen lights up sooner than prior phones and I think your numbers match some of those reports.
For this part of the test, if you haven't upgraded yet, I would just say run it a few more times from scratch - I don't even know if that OS does a reset if pulled far away for a few seconds, though I suspect it does. The repetition helps us recognize if one try is giving unusual results.
You said you dropped the card and that the screen reactivated at 5/8". Did you just do that once? Or, after it lit up again, did you drop it again and see if it kept getting lower? This is what I did on my video - I could keep getting it lower and lower, at least to a certain point.
Also, when you raise it and the screen comes on, you could also slowly put it back down to see where it is before turning OFF again. I suspect that if it turned on at 5/8" that it will stay on down below a half inch. That is, ultimately, the critical figure.
If you really want to take the time, you could also just try making some regular call and see if it acts up (I find I need to turn the brightness up all the way to really see it without having to make a special effort to look out of the corner of my eye).
But some people won't have the problem affect them in normal use right away (some almost never). So, unfortunately, a limited testing time on real calls only tells us anything if it is so bad for you that it hits you right away!
When you do upgrade, same tests so we can see how the numbers change. Assuming you aren't one of those who have it get worse, I would expect that your starting distances are higher and, maybe, it either takes more up and down action to get it as low or it never gets as low - or both. Knowing how low you can get it now is really important for comparison later.
Of course, once updated, you have the experience in the real world on every call you make thereafter for that part.
Now, I really hope you don't start with a working phone (from the numbers you gave so far, I would say it isn't) and then, after 4.1, have it stop working right.
But if that happens, the data you can then give from this test will be the most important we could have at this point.
    Thanks.

  • Sony a6000. EVF proximity sensor is too sensitive.

I experience problems with the sensitivity of the EVF eyecup proximity sensor on the Sony ILCE-6000. Mostly when trying to compose a shot using the LCD monitor. The camera strap or fingers often get near the proximity sensor which turns off the LCD mid use. Also I wear glasses. When the frame the glasses gets near the proximity sensor, it starts switching between the display and the EVF like crazy. This is very distracting and annoying. I request of Sony to add an option to disable the proximity sensor in a firmware upgrade. If other a6000 users experience the need to disable the proximity sensor, I invite them to write here and/or to Sony directly. Sony will not change anything while the people asking for it are few in numbers. Only wishing and hoping isn't enough.

Yes BakoKen, an EVF/LCD custom key toggle option is a necessity for the A6000. I also touched on this issue in an earlier post. But I rarely use the LCD for shooting, and when I do, the proximity sensor manages to mess up the experience. I prefer the Viewfinder for shooting. It's why I gave the A6000 a try. But even when using the EVF only, the proximity sensor shows it's disservice. When we enable the Viewfinder only in the [FINDER/MONITOR] menu. We can see that the EVF continues to be dependent on the proximity sensor. As we distance from the camera the EVF turns off. When we put the eye to the eyecup once more, we see the EVF turn on, but with a bit of a delay (about a third of a second lag). All the lags add up and create a somewhat frustrating experience. Also as I wrote above, the proximity sensor of the A6000 isn't friendly towards glasses. I think the anti-UV coating of my glasses messes with the UV-beam of the proximity sensor assembly. Which in turn makes it react like crazy. This is why I want an option to disable the proximity sensor, making the EVF always on while the camera is powered on. At least when the Viewfinder is selected in the [FINDER/MONITOR] menu.

My proximity sensor does not work on my iPhone 4

Well, it can be fixed, however it is in a very difficult spot, and it may cost me more to replace than what I can get out of it. I don't care to pay for a replacement since my warranty is up, because I already have an iPhone 5. I want to sell the iPhone4, and not for $75 either because you can't make a phone call unless its on speaker. I didn't know what other people had to say, so I just wanted some feedback on my options. I'm sorry that I am not an expert on the iPhone hardware componets, because I actually work for a living. I don't have time to sit here and play on forums. Thanks for all you're help.

    Hi folks,
i have an apple IPhone4. I am experiencing certain problem with my iphone4. The problems are as follows a. my ear piece and proximity sensor is not working while making a call. 2. It cannot reproduce sound without earphone but rings normally if gets any call.
Can any one help me in this regard??

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new software or apps.

  • Proximity Sensor Not Working on Brand new Z2

Hi, The Proximity sensor is not working on my new Xperia Z2. I have ran all the tests on the phone and they have failed. When Put up to the ear during a call the screen does not switch off and all the icons get pressed etc. This is VERY annoying as i cant even speak to anyone for a minute before im dialing someone else by mistake. All Software is up to date. SONY, What the soslution here? I will be taking it into the Sony Center here tomorrow but I dont want to be without my only buisness phone for 3-4 days.

OK installed each update to the pre-installed apps one at a time and tested the proximity sensor after each. All fine till Sony TV Side view : quick remote. after instalation proximity sensor stopped working. after uninstall all working fine again.Seems this is the culprit but I will add my 3rd party apps one at a time just to make sure.

  • Nokia x proximity sensor functionality issues?

I'm using nokia x and found a setting (Turn on Proximity sensor) in it that states it will dim the display when attending a call .
It works as like a light sensor (automatic brightness reduction) and it seems proximity sensor is not present.
CPU z app shows a record for the proximity sensor but doesn't show any reading all the time.? Is this issue only on my device ?
    with regards,
    Pradeep V R

No.. the display doesn't go black. On a first time after restart,  proximity works for one single time and display goes black and thats's the end.Sensor stops working. No touch response. No power button wake up.It doesn't  resumes whatever i do.Only thing to get display back again is when the call ends. When i turn off the setting, light sensor seems to work and dims display, but never wen't black.
When i try CPU Z app after a restart, the proximity sensor reading shows 0cm and it never changes. Closing the app and opening it again shows null value.
I do a factory reset and it doesn't change anything.

  • Proximity Sensor Doesn´t Work. How to fix it?

I´am experiencieng a problem that many other iphone users may either.
The proximity sensor doesn´t work. When i answer a phone call, the display doesn´t turn off, and everytime i keep dialing numbers, endind calls and a lot of other little things that are getting on my nerves.
It seems apple couldn´r care less for those problems we are having, and nothing has been told or done. Thats good for us to see how much apple is concerned with customers.
Anyway, is there a way to fix this annoying thing???

this could be a few reasons,
    1. try and update the device to the latest firmware via itunes, to check you on are on 4.3 go to settings>general>about and under version, if is lower than 4.3, update the device
    2. if this fails remove any cases or screen protecters (silly, i know) that may block the sensor
    3. if that fails, take to the nearest apple store, and describe your problem, they will either replace a=or repair
    hope this helps

  • Verizon, please help! LG G2 proximity sensor bug!

Verizon, please help, the update that you required me to do on 09/23/14 has a huge bug in it and I am fearful it has not only screwed up my proximity sensor but who knows may even have compromised the security of the phone.  The proximity sensor does not respond in dimly lit rooms at all.  You have to trick it by slowly swiping your finger across it just to hang up a phone call.  The power off button does not respond unless you hold it down to do a soft reset.  The "knock-on" feature does not work in dimly lit rooms either.  This is so frustrating as it was working perfectly before the update.  Please either send a fix update or allow us to resort back to the old software.  This phone is less than a year old and I do pay for the warranty, however have been warned that all replacement phones are just "refurbished" phones that may have worse problems.
So, please VERIZON, step up and fix this issue.  I have been into your store to discuss with sales guy and he said he would not file a warranty claim just yet.   This is crap.....please advise.

  • HT201210 Is there a fix for Proximity sensor being messed up after upgrading to latest iOS 6.1.3?

After upgrading to 6.1.3 the Proximity Sensor will not turn my phone's screen black so that other "buttons" are not pressed by my ear of by my face accidentally.
It worked just fine before the update.
And if there isn't a fix is it possible for me to downgrade to iOS 6.0, or 6.0.1 or .6.1?
    I have a 16GB 3GS, iOS version 6.1.3 (10B329), ATT, Model = MC135LL/A, Modem Firmware = 05.16.08
    Thank you in advance,

I have taken it out of the case - I figured it would obstruct the sensor (also have no screen protector).
Only thing I haven't tried from the Basic troubleshooting steps you mentioned was to "restore as new".
That I did try it tonight (succesffully restored), BUT my problem still exists.
You mentioned to go in the MAC store > Would they replace it (for free) if they reach the conclusion it's some sort of manufacturer faulty wiring even if it's a 3Gs (as an old model)?
Would they still if phone had water damage (this I'm just curious - the phone didn't)?
