Proximity Sensor Fixed?

I just got an iPhone 4 on August 11th and I think they have fixed the proximity sensor. I have no issues with it at all. It might be the first batch that sucked.

I'm not sure if its a problem with all the iphone 4's but it's definetly a problem with mine. Luckily it is a software issue as its not a dodgy proximity senor that's been put into some of the phones. The sensor has just been programmed to unlock the screen (during a call) after the phones only 1 inch (approx) away, and it is very senesitive, so if you quickly move your phone about an inch away then push it against your ear/face, it will still unlock in that short time, whereas on the 3gs and 3g it had to be out of the range for whatever period of time (probly a second). So its a bit reasurring to know that it can be fixed in a software update by programming the proximity senor differently. If anything I said is wrong feel free to tell me (Y)

  • Will the return policy be extended for the proximity sensor fix?

I've had a lot of problems with my new iphone, but the worst one is the proximity sensor. On 80% of my calls my cheek has accidentally muted, placed on hold, hung up on, called someone else, and/or started composing an email. The phone is unusable for me in this condition. If the proximity sensor gets fixed, I'd keep the phone. If it doesn't, then I can't keep it. My phone shipped on July 6. Will the proximity sensor fix be released before my 30 day return policy expires? Will the policy be extended until the fix comes out?

No one here knows any more than what was previously announced by Apple. We are just iPhone users like yourself - Apple doesn't officially participate in this forum.
A future software update to fix the proximity sensor problem was announced, but no date was mentioned. The 30 day return policy applies to all iPhones, for any reason. No extensions beyond 30 days have been announced.

  • Proximity sensor fix

looks like if you cover the PS with your finger before you place a phone call , activates the PS and you should be okay for the rest of the call. Try this and let me know if it works for you! my phone PS works 90% of the time... for the rest of 10% i dont know why PS doesn't work

I thought my PS was fixed with 4.1 but seems I was wrong it is like 95% better but my cheek is still dialing.. Why did apple change the way the PS worked? or hardware or whatever? If it isn't broken why change it? I guess I need to keep using call guard when having long convos again.

  • Proximity Sensor Doesn´t Work. How to fix it?

I´am experiencieng a problem that many other iphone users may either.
The proximity sensor doesn´t work. When i answer a phone call, the display doesn´t turn off, and everytime i keep dialing numbers, endind calls and a lot of other little things that are getting on my nerves.
It seems apple couldn´r care less for those problems we are having, and nothing has been told or done. Thats good for us to see how much apple is concerned with customers.
Anyway, is there a way to fix this annoying thing???

this could be a few reasons,
    1. try and update the device to the latest firmware via itunes, to check you on are on 4.3 go to settings>general>about and under version, if is lower than 4.3, update the device
    2. if this fails remove any cases or screen protecters (silly, i know) that may block the sensor
    3. if that fails, take to the nearest apple store, and describe your problem, they will either replace a=or repair
    hope this helps

  • HT201210 Is there a fix for Proximity sensor being messed up after upgrading to latest iOS 6.1.3?

After upgrading to 6.1.3 the Proximity Sensor will not turn my phone's screen black so that other "buttons" are not pressed by my ear of by my face accidentally.
It worked just fine before the update.
And if there isn't a fix is it possible for me to downgrade to iOS 6.0, or 6.0.1 or .6.1?
    I have a 16GB 3GS, iOS version 6.1.3 (10B329), ATT, Model = MC135LL/A, Modem Firmware = 05.16.08
    Thank you in advance,

I have taken it out of the case - I figured it would obstruct the sensor (also have no screen protector).
Only thing I haven't tried from the Basic troubleshooting steps you mentioned was to "restore as new".
That I did try it tonight (succesffully restored), BUT my problem still exists.
You mentioned to go in the MAC store > Would they replace it (for free) if they reach the conclusion it's some sort of manufacturer faulty wiring even if it's a 3Gs (as an old model)?
Would they still if phone had water damage (this I'm just curious - the phone didn't)?

  • Those Who Got 'Reset All Settings' to Fix the Proximity Sensor Issue...

I thought I would start a thread dedicated only to the steps that people took to get their proximity sensor issues resolved. So far, there are only scant posts lost deep in huge threads.
For example, did you do a hard or soft reboot after you reset all of the settings? Did you make calls right away? Did you change all of your settings back first before making a call? Did you only change some settings before a call and then others after? Did you set up your visual voicemail right away? The reason why I am asking is perhaps there is a problem with a particular setting that we can narrow it down to...or maybe a certain combo of settings since resetting just the network settings seemed to work for some and not for others.
Also, if it worked, was it only a temporary fix?
Please post constructively. I have been following the threads for days, and I am well aware that this may be a hardware issue.

On my fifth phone and am currently working with an apple engineer to help investigate the issue. The best thing I've done to help temporarily is to reset all settings. That seems to hold for 24 hours or so but the issue always returns.
Hope you get something to work, but I'm fairly certain apple won't be able to do a firmware update to fix this or they would of already done so or at least mentioned it.
Thanks! That's what I was beginning to think as well...and it's also what I was most afraid of...

  • Fix for proximity sensor on my iPhone 4

When talking on my iphone4, I continually push buttons on my phone with my face.  I've learned it,s a problem with the proximity sensor.  Is there a fix for this problem.

Bring your phone into Apple for exchange.

  • Did a replacement fix anyone's Proximity Sensor problem?

    Did it?

Ok. I've been following this thread, and like most of you I have been having the same issue. The 4.1 upgrade did not fix my proximity sensor issue. Even after the upgrade, my sensor was only reading about .5 inches from the phone. I tried restoring, and even fresh restoring with 4.1 to no avail.
Then by accident I fixed it. I did a RESET NETWORK SETTINGS and then RESET ALL SETTINGS for an unrelated issue, and then my prox sensor started reading 1.25 - 1.5 inches away. No more face hangups or speakerphone incidents.
It seems the settings for the Prox sensor might be stored in a different location than the other system settings and data. Maybe like the old Mac PRAM? I don't know which reset fixed mine, as I did them both and noticed the fix afterward.
    Do this -
    1. Upgrade, or make sure you've already upgraded to 4.1
    2. Do a RESET NETWORK SETTINGS - it is under Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    If still a problem -
    3. Do a RESET ALL SETTINGS - it is under Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
(Note - these resets clear your settings. You will have to reconfigure them after you run these.)
Post back your results. Best of luck. Thanks.

  • Has 4.1 fixed the Proximity Sensor issue for you?

At work, can't download 4.1 yet, but I'm eager to see if the Proximity Sensor issue will be fixed. This is my last straw, if 4.1 doesn't do it, I'm afraid I can't wait any longer. I need a phone..

For those who are slow on the uptake what is the issue with the proximity sensor? I have noticed no issues with mine.
We have three iP4s in our family and none are experiencing the Prox issue, but for those that do it is extremely frustrating. Proximity sensor system seems to fail and activate the keyboard at odd times allowing your face/ear to randomly press 'buttons' resulting in all sorts of weird behavior.
Got it. Mine is fine so I guess I should be grateful. Apart from the signal issues my phone works perfectly. I hope this update doesn't screw my phone up.

  • My proximity sensor doesn't work anymore while calling... How do I fix this?

The proximity sensor of my iphone 5S doesn't work anymore. Therefore my screen just stays on while I'm on the phone and every time my face touches the screen I pauze the conversation, or mute it, or...
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Try removing your case.  If still an issue, take it in to Apple.  You have a 1 year warranty.

  • Does iOS 4.2 fix Proximity Sensor problems?

Anyone have any experience with this yet?

I had major problem with the iOS 4. Proximity Sensor would do crazy things like described in the forums. iOS 4.1 and a new phone seemed to be better. With 4.2. my second iPhone 4 the problem has come back worse than 4.0 problems. The phone will dial a random contact number, it will bring up the email program and will mute. Any tips and does anyone else experience this problem,
    Thanks

  • My proximity sensor does not work on my iPhone 4

My proximity sensor does not work on my iPhone 4

Well, it can be fixed, however it is in a very difficult spot, and it may cost me more to replace than what I can get out of it. I don't care to pay for a replacement since my warranty is up, because I already have an iPhone 5. I want to sell the iPhone4, and not for $75 either because you can't make a phone call unless its on speaker. I didn't know what other people had to say, so I just wanted some feedback on my options. I'm sorry that I am not an expert on the iPhone hardware componets, because I actually work for a living. I don't have time to sit here and play on forums. Thanks for all you're help.

  • Verizon, please help! LG G2 proximity sensor bug!

Verizon, please help, the update that you required me to do on 09/23/14 has a huge bug in it and I am fearful it has not only screwed up my proximity sensor but who knows may even have compromised the security of the phone.  The proximity sensor does not respond in dimly lit rooms at all.  You have to trick it by slowly swiping your finger across it just to hang up a phone call.  The power off button does not respond unless you hold it down to do a soft reset.  The "knock-on" feature does not work in dimly lit rooms either.  This is so frustrating as it was working perfectly before the update.  Please either send a fix update or allow us to resort back to the old software.  This phone is less than a year old and I do pay for the warranty, however have been warned that all replacement phones are just "refurbished" phones that may have worse problems.
So, please VERIZON, step up and fix this issue.  I have been into your store to discuss with sales guy and he said he would not file a warranty claim just yet.   This is crap.....please advise.

If you repair your phone it is a refurb phone.

  • Re: Issue with Proximity Sensor during calls

Im sure if it is a hardware issue, all Apple would have to do is change the software. Im sure they can add something to the software that allows you to lock the buttons when on a call, or make the sleep button on top of the phone disable the proximity sensor if you hit it. Granted, it would be lame if they had to do this, but we all know they aren't going to recall the phone, so hopefully they can 100% fix it, but if not, there are other options, even if we may not like them.

    Dear Gentlemen:
You should join the many people posting about this very issue. Below is the link:
