Proxy Icon in TextEdit titlebar created HUGE file when dragged into Finder

Hi everyone, Hope you can solve this mystery...
I just noticed that the Titlebar of my TextEdit window has a small icon next to the filename (aka "Proxy icon").  I realized that it's draggable, so I decided to do little test to test it's functionality.
- I created a small file with one word in it "test" and saved it as "test file.rtf" in a subfolder under Documents; and
- With the file still open, I dragged the Proxy Icon into a Finder window to the Desktop folder.
When I looked for the file in Finder, I was shocked to see that:
- It created a HUGE file...the original file is only 306 bytes in size, but the one I created by dragging shows 2.3 MB !
- The dragged file also has the appearance of an "Alias" file b/c the Finder window show3s a document icon with a curved arrow next to the filename.
Questions:
1) Why would Maverick use an Alias symbol on a file that is clearly not an Alias based on it's size?
2) Why is the file so much larger than the original?
I searched online for answers but found none, so I thought I'd give this forum a try.
btw - in case you're wondering, I did not open the dragged file b/c I didn't want to take any chances.
Thanks in advance.

  • Cannot create a file when that file already exists, but should overwrite

    Hi,
I need the same file name which is at Sender side and when it reaches to Receiver directory without timestamp.
for eg., Sender side : Yeswanth.txt
and also receiver side   :  Yeswanth.txt
but, here it should overwrite the existing file (because, the sender side file name is always constant) at receiver directory when the job schedules for each time.
Processing parameters i has given on Receiver side:
    File Construction Mode  :  Create
put file  : Use Temporary File
and I enabled the Adapter Specific Message Attributes at Sender side and Receiver side.
Error getting receiver side at communication channel :
    Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException:
Yeswanth.txt: Cannot create a file when that file already exists. : com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550
Yeswanth.txt: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
    Reward points for useful answers.

    Hi Yeswanth
Then you can try with a "Add Counter". This will create new file each time with the same name but a counter will be added to the file name at the end specifying the number of times it is created.
You can also the specify the format to create the counter once select this option u can correspondingly fill the Format and step fields.
    Will this be fine.

  • FTPEx: 550  : Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

    Hi experts,
I am working on idoc to file scenario and PI 7.1. The idoc is split into 3 files.
In sxmb_moni , the message is successful , but in rwb( Message montoring) i am geeting the fllowing  Error message.

and this error message is not displayed for all the target files , some files are getting created succesfully.
After some times , the file in error status , gets created automatically.
    What may be the reason.?
    Thanks in advance .

There seem to be already some files in your Target Directory with the same name as your new files (which the CC is trying to place) and the CC is not able to overwrite the existing files and hence the error...check this.
    Check: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/EN/44/69d7cfa4b633eae10000000a1553f6/content.htm
    14.      Select the File Construction Mode.
    u25CB       Create
The file is created. The document received last is saved in each case.
If you want the created file to be overwritten, select Overwrite Existing File. If you do not set the indicator, processing is stopped until the created file is processed.
You can only set the indicator if you select Use Temporary File under Put File below.

  • Cannot rename DC, "Cannot create a file when that file already exists."

    Hi,
A long time ago we used a domain controller named jacob.mydomain.lan.  It was removed, possibly in a 'dirty' way, and now we cannot re-use that name for another domain controller.  In the meantime we have upgraded to Win 2012 domain controllers
now, and when I enter this to rename:
    netdom computername ourdc.mydomain.lan /add:jacob.mydomain.lan
I get the error:  "Unable to add jacob.mydomain.lan as an alternate name for the computer.  The error is:  Cannot create a file when that file already exists."
    If I enter:
    netdom computername ourdc.mydomain.lan /remove:jacob.mydomain.lan
I get: "The command completed successfully", but it still refuses to add jacob.mydomain.lan
After each attempt to add a forward zone dns record 'jacob.ourdomain.lan' has been created.  I always erase this manually afterwards.
What is the problem? How can I search to find the offending 'file' named 'jacob'?
Thanks a lot for help on this.

  • The cluster service terminated, error 7024, cannot create a file when that file already exists

    I have a test 2-node Failover cluster using Server 2012 R2
As of last night the cluster service on one of the 2 nodes is down with this error:
The Cluster Service service terminated with the following service-specific error:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
    EventID 7024
The Cluster service waits 60 sec, tries to start, and the same error occurs again.
Any idea where to look to identify which file this error is referring to, or how to go about identifying root cause and getting a solution?
    thank you.

  • Cannot create a file when that file already exists

When i try to use Photoshop filters: Adaptive Wide Angle, Shake Reduction and Liquify. An error pop up saying "Cannot create a file when that file already exists".
Just one detail: The liquify filter doen't pop up the error right away, the error occurs just after i press the "ok" button to accept the changes.
I have already tryed to Reset the preferences, tryed to reinstall the PS, Update the PS, download (and install) the latests drivers to my pc.
My Pc fit in all the requirements, have the openGL version: 3.0
I also have Photoshop CS5 installed, in which the liquify filter works perfectly.
Here i have two Print Screen, how it looks:
The first image is just right before a click the "Adaptive Wide Angle"
The second one is right after i clicked it
If you could help me, i already thank you for wasting you time reading this!

Resetting the Photoshop preferences does not reset the preferences for the plugins.
There should be a Plugins folder. If the folder cannot be created it would cause the error you are seeing.
Can you check the permissions on the ‘Adobe’ folder at: C:\Users\jworthin\AppData\Roaming\Adobe.
Can you manually create a Plugins folder in that location or do you get an error?

  • Applescript - Create RTF File in Last Selected Finder Folder

QUERY: As a fit-for-purpose Applescript user, I try to customize posted scripts (thanks to sharers who do the heavy lifting) to suit my needs. Someone posted a great Applescript for creating an RTF file, but I want one modification:  rather than having to declare/designate a folder in which to place the new RTF, I want it to create the new file in the active Finder file.  Interestingly enough, I also have an Appscript which, in fact, will create a TXT file (not RTF) in the active Finder file. How to take the desirable bit from the latter and working it into the former, I cannot figure. (More times than not, I can successfully blend scripts, but not so this time. I have hit something that requires expert help.)

  • Premiere CS4 is Creating Multiple files when rendering

We have used Adobe Premiere for just over seven years now with great success.  Five days per week we create videos with Adobe Premiere with three computers. We presently upgraded to the new CS4.  The computer that that program is installed on is used to edit 30 and sixty minute television shows.  The files start out as .AVI files then, when finished they are rendered and saved as MPG2 files.
We are currently experiencing a problem with this new program that we have not ever experienced in the past.  Description of problem:
We import a 30 or 60 minute .avi file into a project.  We then place it on the timeline.  On these timelines there are only the video layer and the audio layer, no more than that.  We then make the editing changes that are necessary.  We then go to export the file to the Adobe Encoder to be saved as a MPG2.  When we do this, while in the process of encoding the file, Premiere will create four (4) files when it was not told to do so.  When this happens of course with a 60 minute file, it can take a very long time to encode, (because it is creating multiple files).  We have needed to stop the process, and change the name.  This sometimes works, and sometimes it does not.
We are hoping that someone has come across this before and can help us.  I have looked at different sources to find the answer to this.  I called Adobe direct, and it was suggested that I try this forum.  Any help would this would be very appreciated.  Thank you.

OK.  These are all of the screen shots with the settings.  I hope that you can find something.
    Thank you

  • No sound in previously created ".prel" files when I reopen them

If I am creating new file everything works OK. Also if I tried to play the sound track on the previously created prel files the sound is OK

    Lio1072
Great job with the troubleshooting the comment in post 1
When you have encountered this no sound after a save close reopen, have you ever tried
    a. Moving from one working space to another and making sound changes in the other workspace before going back to the original working space
    b. working in the Timeline workspace and moving audio content to other numbered audio tracks?
By narration missing in all of my projects, does that include new as well as existing projects?
In your present situation, please look at deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete
the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option
Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the complete path cited.
Also for troubleshooting purposes now, please consider creating narration in the free audio editor Audacity, exporting the
narration as wav to hard drive and from there import the wav narration file into Premiere Elements with Premiere Elements' Add Media/Files and
Folders. Does that function on Narration Track?
Thanks for the follow ups. Looking forward to learning of your further progress.

  • Preview Icons vanishing when dragged into new folder.

When dragging an image file (with a preview icon showing the small representation of that image) is dragged from it's original folder to a new one, the preview disappears and is replaced with a generic "EPS" or "Jpeg" grey icon. Futher, if I get information about the file, the preview picture of the image also shows just a generic file type icon, even though I can see clearly the preview icon. This is so frustrating, as I must then batch process images in photoshop to have a new preview image show up.
To make things even more annoying, the process is inconsistent. If I drag the a eps file from the original folder with the image preview into a new folder, the preview may be missing. If I drag and drag, creating multiple copies of the file in a new folder "hnuewf.eps 1, .2, .3 etc...) almost always one of these attempts will copy correctly, with the preview intact. What the heck is going on!

    Partilly solved by rebuilding permissions....

  • Files convert to aif when dragged into logic

whenever i drap an mp3 m4a or anything else for the matter the file gets copied and converted to an AIF fiel within the current project folder
i would like to circumvent this process, is there a way to just let the files sit and play in logic as its original source and not as the newly created aif file?
    thanks for the wisdom

in order for logic to play and edit audio it has to be converted to the a raw audio file format liek Aiff/WAV/SDII etc...
Mp3 M4a are compressed audio data and it also is not the optimal quality so u might not wanna vircumvent that feature - also I dont think you can
Should u wanna work directly with compressed audio data I think there are some apps that let u do that - dont ask which ones though:-)

  • Visual Studio opening files when dragged and dropped in WPF app debugging session

I'm working on a WPF app (using VS2013 CE) which is intended to manage media files (TV Shows, movies, etc) and as part of this I am enabling the user to drag and drop media files on to the running app (by adding AllowDrop="True" and PreviewDragEnter="Window_PreviewDragEnter"
    to my Window definition).
The problem I have is that when I drag files onto the app in a debugging session Visual Studio then opens the file(s) when I stop debugging... this is seriously annoying as when I am testing with large media files (> 1GB) it just locks up VS for minutes
at a time while it tries to open the file or files. When I run the app outside the debugger this does not happen - it's only when I'm in a VS debugging session.  The only way I can stop this happening is to kill VS completely from Task Manager then restart
it - this is also very annoying but often I need to do this as it will freeze up for 5-10 minutes while it insists on loading the files in VS.
I understand the app, whilst debugging, is running in the context of VS but why does VS then have to try to open the files when debugging is finished?   I have looked through the options but can't see anything to switch this off and no amount of searching
has turned up anything - can anyone put me out of my misery with a solution to this annoying issue?

    Hello nzmike,
Does Visual Studio behaves like the following image shows and just hangs when opening your media file?
Do you have any other computer which installs Visual Studio? Can you reproduce this on it?
In order to troubleshoot this issue I think we need to locate the root reason of your issue. The problem can related to the following:
    1. Your project is corrupt and VS then trys to load that file when debug finished.
    2. Your VS is corrupt and caused this problem.
    So please do something below:
    1. Try clean and rebuild your project.
    2. Switch to some other PCs and use VS and your project there, check if the problem can be reproduced.
    3. You can backup your VS setting and try some commands: devenv /resetsettings and devenv /resetuserdata
    Details about VS command:https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/xee0c8y7.aspx
And based on th research of the above second step, if you can reproduce this issue on more than one PC, the problem is pending on your project and I need you to share a simple sample which can reproduce this issue. We will need to investigate the project
    in detail.

  • Creating a Linux virtual machine on dynamic vhdx file creates huge file on formating

    Hello,
we just created a virtual machine on Windows Server 2012 R2 on a dynamic vhdx file.
When the operating system (Redhat 5) formats the filesystem (100GB of size), then the vhdx file expands to 21 GB, although no data is written to the disk.
Did someone experience a similar issue? And how to avoid such space waste. If we write additional data in the virtual machine, then the vhdx expands again and gets even bigger then the 21 GB.
    Thanks,

"So RedHat itself supports the virtual machine, but Microsoft not?"
Depends upon how you define the word 'support'.  Microsoft has never supported any Linux operating system in the manner that it supports software it has written.  In this case, support means providing fixes to the software code.  That is pretty
standard across the board.  RedHat does not support Microsoft applications or software, either.
However, if you mean the Microsoft supports the running of the RedHat operating system within Hyper-V, the answer is yes.  In those cases where it is not obvious that a problem is occurring in Microsoft's integration components, it will work with RedHat
to determine where the error lies.  If the cooperative effort between Microsoft and RedHat determines the problem is with Microsoft code, Microsoft will fix (support) it.  If it is determined that the problem is not with Microsoft code, RedHat will
make the determination as to whether or not to fix (support) it.
