Proxy settings undetected after auto update

Following Thursday's automatic updates I can no longer access the web. On Windows Network Diagnostics, the error message is 'Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings'. I can't see that I have any proxy settings... I have an HP Desktop PC HP P6-2260, and I use Windows 7. It works OK if I do a System Restore - but I don't want to have to do one of those everytime I go on the computer. Any suggsestions?

Thanks Jaco. I had a good look at the updates that were causing the problem. Many of them related to security, so I checked my security software, and after running updates there it solved the problem - the microsoft updates must have been clashing with the security updates in some way.

Why doesnt foxyspider work with 26.0 after auto update

I was using foxyspider successfully for several months until firefox auto updated to version 26. After the update it will no longer download. All other functions work but files will not be saved. A new page will open and thumbnails are visible, but when the option to save files manually or select all files is chosen and a location is selected to download, nothing happens. Again, it worked properly with the previous version of firefox.. I have contacted the developer of foxyspider twice but have received no reply. If it does not work anymore, I will have to give it a poor rating. Before firefox 26.0 foxy spider was 10 of 10 but no it is a big zero.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension?
It looks like the developer isn't very active on his social media channels, but you might try reaching out there.

Proxy settings for Creative Suite updating

What are the proxy settings when I update Creative suite on windows. I need the port and network ranges.

I don’t know, but you can manually download the update for the Creative Suite directly from the Adobe website. Since the Creative Suite is very old at this point you are unlikely to see much in the way of updates except maybe security updates for Acrobat.

After auto update recently, norton internet security won't work. error message:windows cannot access specified path...you may not have appropriate permissions to access item

Firefox did an auto update and since then I cannot open/run Norton Internet Security. It won't even let me update it or re-install it. I get an error message stating Windows cannot find the specified path. You may not have appropriate permissions to access this.

Visual Studio is a very invasive program and which provides the ability to enumerate projects and solutions for system, user should never try uninstalling it manually without any guidance.
Visual Studio made changes for your whole system, if the file has been moved or deleted this error would occur.
Since you mentioned that you get this error almost everywhere even in control panel. We suggest you repair/reinstall your Visual Studio first and check if it could be fixed.

Ichat won't open/load after auto-update

i recently did an auto-update of safari and now the application will not open/boot. same for ichat, as well as adium and yahoo instant messenger. i click on the ichat icon in my dock, and it bounces for a second, stops, and the nothing. can anyone help? thank you.

Lost sound QT X after auto update

I just got this MacBook with Lion 0.7.5 and I had sound. It did an auto update and I lost audio and video on a particular website. I have a/v on youtube and I have audio on cd. Something is wrong. Can someone help? I'm trying to learn Apple, I'm more MS familiar. Thanks, breeze

Breeze, try taking the QuickTime 7.6.6 download. It's the older 32-bit player that can work with almost every audio/video codec available - and many of the files used on various websites can be made to work if you get the correct codec packs.
Right now there is a whole change happening and one of the updates you took may have flipped a settings switch somewhere.. DO be mindful that Mavericks 10.9 IS FREE and if you do take that upgrade, you will absolutely WANT to re-install the QT7.6.6 asnd install all the codecs again, as 10.9 is now stepped up on the video to 64-bit processing and it's also embedded the playback function further down into the operating system, closer to the hardware level.. Ugh.
Here's the list to try, I've made this for the people with video issues in Mavericks, but all these options work well enough on every OS as far back as Tiger Mac OS X 10.4 (I have this installation package on one of my machines)
Start with QT 7.6.6. - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
Get Perian, and install it. - http://perian.org
then VLC, - http://videolan.org
DivX - http://divx.com - and the
Flip4Mac package from Telestream - http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac/
A52/AC3 downloader: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21875/a52codec - In this installer package there is an audio A52Codec.component. DO NOT USE IT! Throw it out and use the one that is linked below.
This is what I've put into my system and so far I've gotten every file to run fine, even my oldest videos.
These are codecs you should see.
In System/Library/QuickTime
     AppleIntermediateCodec.component
     AppleMPEG2Codec.component* (*optional if you've bought it)
     DivX Decoder.component
     Flip4Mac WMV Advanced.component
     Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
     Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
In your Home/Library/QuickTime/
     AC3MovieImport.component (you may or may not want this component, in some instances it causes conflicts. In my system, it doesn't. Who knows why? I don't.)
     Perian.component
For AC3 sound that is in most .mkv files, you need the A52Codec.component, this is the one you want, here:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34821905/A52Codec.component.zip - unzip the file and put the component into the System/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components
Perian is a System Prefences control panel and set it so it doesn't check for updates, since it is no longer in development. (but still works perfectly)

Older Firefox takes up quite a few disk space after auto update.

After several auto updates, <Firefox install directory>/updated/ directory takes up a few hundreds MB of disk space. I would like to be able to safely delete it (after quite some time with the newly installed version).

Firefox wont connect after auto update!!

Hi, for ages now my Firefox has tried to auto update every so often. After the update it would never connect to the internet, so I would uninstall and re install the previous version that i still had in my downloads list. However, yesterday it did the same thing, so I uninstalled but the old version installer has vanished from my downloads list!! So i set about trying to get the updated version to work. Allowing it on the firewall, turning off firewall...nothing. I just don't understand!! Please help!!

Won't open at all after auto update!!! dead in the water!!!

yesterday I was informed that an auto update had been done. for 6.blah.2 or something. I don't know. I was immersed in the constitution and Thomas Jefferson was waxing his ass. Anyway last night I shut down, all is well in the world. This morning I try to log on to see if my prof has any news for me...nothing. You know, no coffee, perhaps I'm not awake, kidnapped by ailens. So I shut down and try again. Nothing. But IE worked...So here I am...What is up?

Problems with login on iPod after auto update of S...

My father-in-law "V" uses Skype on iPod. Recently Skype auto-updated and "V" could no longer login into his account. I tried to help, sending his email on file to Skype and getting instructions on how to reset password. I suspected that he just forgot right spelling of his PW. Email came from Skype with instructions on resetting PW, but I noticed that Skype name mentined there is almost right. Almost is because it had extra "1" in the end, which "V" did not have. I had to delete and re-install Skype on his iPod to make it work. I tried to use his correct Skype name in Login space and new password, but it did not work. Then I used his name with extra"1" at the end as in Skype's email and newly changed PW. And it worked, but surely enough, all his contacts were gone.
How can we restore his login to right name which he always used? This, I assume, would solve problem of vanished contacts. How come his Skype name suddenly changed without "V" himself doing that?

In reference to the linked article I already had the ipod options set to automatically update the podcasts for selected episodes. I just set it to manual and back to automatic, perhaps this will fix it. The mysterious podcasts playlist has appeared twice today for me so far.

Need 2 Audigy4 software files missing after auto-update

Two requests here... (thanks in advance).
I performed an auto-update of my SBAudigy4 software components, only
to find unfortunately that the following files are now missing (and maybe
more):
"C:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy4\Entertainment Center\RCSettings.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy4\Audio Device Selection\CTAudSel.exe"
The original CD does not let me re-install the application, and the binaries
above are in ".cab" files which, try as I may with several CAB tools, I can't
open up.
Can anyone who has the latest version of these two files, zip them up and email
them to me. Actually, if its not too much trouble (or to big) the entire
"Entertainment Center" and "Audio Device Selection" directories would be
great, in case I'm missing a few more files than I realize.
Also, does anyone happen to have a PDF file explaining how to configure
the RM-500 remote control. I got the Audigy4Pro with my Alienware and
don't see a manual. (and the "manual.chm" file sucks).

in any one of several ".CAB" files which I cannot open no matter what CAB tool I use. Could you
send them to me... that would be grand. Either the two files I specified, or even better, the entire

After auto update from 3.6.3 to 3.6.13, "proxy server refuses connection". I have to uninstall 3.6.13 and install 3.6.3 in order for it to work again.

I have been very satisfied with Mozilla Firefox until recently. I have Firefox 3.6.3. Every time a box appears with "installing updates" it installs updates then the screen goes to "problem loading page" and "the proxy server is refusing connections". The only way I can get internet access is to go to "control panel" then "add or remove programs" then I have to "uninstall mozilla firefox 3.6.13. Then I click on my "Firefox Setup 3.6.3, and I install that version. Once I do that, everything works fine again. It is such a headache because I can't prevent the "installing updates" from happening and once it happens, it does not work, as described above.
Any thoughts???????

My Pages Do Not Render after auto updating to 7.0

After my Browser was today updated to Firefox 7.0 on some of my pages elements are replaced with ... (elipses) and the z-index of items is all messed up.
I tried the same site in 3.6.2 and 6.0 and it is working fine. As soon so the machine updates to 7.0 or 8.0 beta it now longer renders.
This is a private site. Is there a way I can email someone files to see the problem?

After auto-update from Thunderbird 30- 31, To: email is red

After Thunderbird [running on Windows 8.1] updated from v. 30 to 31.0, the To: line in email addresses pulled from my Address Book turns and remains red, rather than changing to black. _This issue is dependent on the typing speed while entering the first characters of an email address_ and only occurs when typing slowly.
To replicate:
1. Type a few letters from the email address in the Address Book, typing s l o w l y. Choose an entry for which there is more than one name or email address beginning with the same same letter. (Collected Addresses was the source in my tests.)
2. Select one of the entries shown, either by
a. hitting the Enter key if the To: box is populated correctly
b. clicking on the correct entry in the drop-down list
c. scrolling down to the entry and pressing Enter.
3. Observe that while typing, on the second or subsequent letter entered the To: text changes from black to red.

Windows Crashing after Auto Update

Windows performed an automatic update last night, and now when I connect my Nano to sync with itunes, Windows crashes and I get the "blue screen". When I reboot everything works fine until I connect my Nano and the same problem occurs. I haven't had any problems up to this point. Any ideas?

what numerical and text codes are you getting with the blue screen? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)

1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
