Proxy settings will not save in program or through prefs.js.

Every time I start up firefox 4 RC1, the proxy settings are set to manual configuration. I have no proxy and have to set it to no proxy every time. When I close and re-open, it goes back to manual configuration.
I tried manually editing this setting through prefs,js and it saves until I open firefox again and it resets it to manual proxy configuration.
I also tried deleting prefs.js so it would generate a new one but still no luck.

I had a Malware problem, maybe it is the same for you.
I looked for files modified at the time I thought the Malware acted on my PC.
Found 3 lines added to the:
C:/users/xxxxxmyprofile/appdata/roaming/mozilla/firefox/profiles/xxxxx.default/[email protected]/default/preferences/prefs.js
I removed them, and I saved the prefs.js file again.
They were like:
user_pref("network.proxy.http", "127.0.0.1"); user_pref("network.proxy.http_port", 58505);
user_pref("network.proxy.type", 1);
More or less.
My suggestions:
Check all *.js files in firefox/ subfolders, plugins included (in my case, as you can see, it was in foxmarks subfolder).
Took me a while, finally solved.

  • System Settings will not save my desired mouse scroll direction

I understand the Apple genius of wanting the Settings: Mouse: Scroll direction: Natural box to be checked.  But **** it, this is MY iMac and I want the scroll direction to remain Unchecked, so the screen scrolls in the direction I’ve been used to for YEARS.
The problem is the System Settings will not save the unchecked scroll box.  I have to return to the System Settings every time I log on to UN check the Scroll Direction: Natural box.
Will Apple ever fix this so that I, and others, can operate the scrolling as THEIR LONG-TIME USER sees fit?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Firefox security settings will not save any of my passwords even when i click on the check box for saving passwords. please help.

When a pop-up comes up on the screen it will ask to save my password or not, well, I click on save password but it doesnt save any passwords even when I have the check box checked for remembering my passwords for certain sites it will not save any type of passwords at all. What am I doing wrong? I am using linux-mac OS user.

Simply because I don't think about using this option that takes more time to close... I always close ALL my windows with the X.
Firefox doesn't hang at exit also...
Using Firefox / Exit doesn't always save the bookmarks also... let's say there is 80% chances it will but not always... I noticed the first time I open firefox after booting the computer... Bookmarks won't be saved... But if I close firefox and re-open it, then it might save it... 50% guess...
I tried the safe mode, but since its closing firefox and re-open it... new saved bookmarks sometimes work, sometimes don't... it's pretty unstable...
Hopefully there is a solution to this problem in a near update, annoying... else I will simply reverse to firefox 3.6.16

  • Compressor custom settings will not save after reboot

I am having a problem with compressor removing my custom settings after I restart the program. I will save a custom format and it will show up in the custom folder however as soon as I close compressor and restart it shows 0 in the customer folder. I am guessing this is a bug in the new version but does anyone have any ideas? Also where do I submit a bug for compressor? Thanks

I, too, have been experiencing this for quite a while in Compressor 3.  I upgraded to Compressor 4 this week, thinking that that, might solve my problem, but no.  Same thing is happening in Compressor 4.
I have trashed my preferences, but still no luck.
    very frustrating.

  • When I try to allow cookies, the security option of use custom settings will not save after I push the OK button.

Am unable to get to hotmail because cookies are blocked.

The "Use custom settings for history" setting allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting that setting doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.<br />
Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.<br />
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".<br />
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a check mark.<br />

  • Firefox 4 proxy settings do not save after I change them.

Every time I restart Firefox the proxy settings are changed to "manual" and it has a specific HTTP proxy address and port set. A few days ago I ran AVG's PC TuneUp and it optimized Firefox and my internet connection. I thought this might be the problem but after disabling it, Firefox 4 still doesnt work unless I change the settings myself every time. Help?

Ok I fixed it.. It was my Wolfram-Alpha search engine add on
If your proxy settings are going crazy, open the Add-on manager, disable one, restart firefox, continue until you figure out which one is messing up the settings.

  • Error & flash settings will not save.

Being a customer support rep for a company, I encounter a countless number of calls about the particular error "Flash shared objects must be turned on for the program...etc"
I have the customers change their settings on local storage, and when they go to the adobe site to manage the settings of visited sites, nothing is in the list.
The situation stands that some computers are preventing users from saving shared objects, even though the settings on flash permit it.
So all-in-all what I am asking is that is there something that could prevent flash from saving shared objects. (no additional software like flashblock or anything).

  • Various settings will not save after restart or reboot.

Macbook Pro 15 Early 2011 here. I keep modifying my dock and some of my trackpad settings, but everytime I restart my computer it goes back to the default state. Safari also opens with the same webpages everytime, as if it's stuck in the past or something. Is this a permissions issue? If not, what should I do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

What your describing with the Dock and trackpad sounds like either wrong permissions or corrupted preference files (.plist).
Download the free OnyX here and run all the first checks, then do ALL the cleaning and maintainence tasks and make SURE to reboot when your done!
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx
Note: for Snow Leopard or earlier operating systems, scroll down you need to MATCH the OS X version your using.
After you do that run OnyX again and under the Verify is a preference file checker, check the box that says "show only corrupt .plist" files and run that.
Note all the corrupt .plist files, we will have to find them and delete them using the free Easy Find
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/EasyFind.app.zip
Once you do those two things, reboot the machine and try to set your preferences again in the Dock and trackpad.
Another way is to open the Users/Library/Preferences folder and look for
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    com.apple.dock.plist
and deleting those files that way.
Far as Safari, that could be a feature to open all previous web pages, OnyX will clean that out for you when you ran it, but likely it will do it again when you use Safari as it's trying to be helpful or something should be able to disable it somewhere.
Tell us what your OS X version is and your MacBook Pro model, it's something like MacBook Pro 3,1 or 8,2 under your Apple menu > About this Mac > More information.

  • CS6 page settings using Property inspector will not save [subject edited by moderator]

I have a student who is working on building a webpage using a CSS template. They are trying to change their page settings (for example, the color of their hyperlinks) using the menu at the bottom of the page. However, these settings will not save. If anyone can give me an idea of how to move forward, I would appreciate it. Thank you

Which version and build # of DW CS6?
Do you have all the latest updates?
    Also which operating system?
Has DW always behaved this way or is this something new?

  • Global security settings do not save

    Hello,
I'm using Flash version 10,0,12,36 on a new XP Pro 64bit
system. We are running Flash projects from a network drive which
works just fine on 32bit systems by allowing folder permissions in
the Global Security Settings manager. These settings will not save
on the 64bit version. The only reason I can think of is that the
32bit "program files" directory is called "program files (x86)"
which may not be what the player is looking for when attempting to
    save the setting.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Jason

It's cause the SP 2 sux, change the security settings and try again, in MSIE you can do this under the Edit or Tools menu.

    Hi Nuch1,
I found an article that is contains very thorough Mail troubleshooting steps:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
You can use that article to figure out what part of the email "ecosystem" is the cause of the issue, and it can also help you attempt to resolve it.

  • I have Firefox 3.6 on my Mac OSX 10.6.5 and it will not save settings for igoogle or my password for googlemail or hotmail. Can you help?

I have Firefox 3.6 on my Mac OSX 10.6.5 and it will not save settings for igoogle or my password for googlemail or hotmail. Can you help?

    Very weird day in Firefoxland
First on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 I respond to an invitation to upgrade to Firefox 4 (like a lot of others). Long story short, I wind up losing the browser altogether -- including all bookmarks. Why? Because neither the Firefox homepage (or CNET downloads) makes it clear that 4.0 is for OS 10.5 only! Amazing!
Then I try to register to post a reply in a thread that crits Firefox for not making this System Requirements info upfront clear. But the Register page I’m taken to (https://support.mozilla.com/bs/users/register) is in SERBO-CROATIAN!!
Then I try to log into Chat a couple of times and when it’s not CLOSED its a long line waiting and THEN it closes.
WOW!! Are the wheels off the wagon here or what!?!
