Proxy User - Forms 11.1.2 and Oracle Database (version 10.1.0.5) ??

Hi,
we are migrating from Forms 6i to 11.1.2. Our database version is very old (Enterprise Edition, version 10.1.0.5) because this is the latest version of the DB that Forms 6i runs, and we will migrating to 11g in phases. So 6i and 11g will co-exists for a while (accesing the same DB).
I am trying to use proxy users feature to login to database.
So I did this:
- I created a user PROXY_USR to be the proxy user:
SQL> create user PROXY_USR identified by PROXY_PASW;*
- I grant create session for the user:
SQL> grant create session to PROXY_USR;*
- I changed the application users (eg APPUSER01), to connect via proxy user:
SQL> alter user APPUSER01 grant connect through PROXY_USR;*
The comand in Forms module to login is:
+LOGON('PROXY_USR[APPUSER01]','PROXY_PASW@DB01');+*
The logon built is being performed and the connection being made, without erros.
But when I verify in what user the application is logged on, the result is not
what was expected:
I did the follwing PL/SQL inside Form module:
begin*
select user into v_user_DB from dual;*
MESSAGE('User Connected: '||v_user_DB,ACKNOWLEDGE);*
exception*
when others then*
MESSAGE('ERR: '||SQLERRM,ACKNOWLEDGE);*
end;*
The result from this select, is PROXY_USR and not APPUSER01 (that would be the correct):
*>>Result: "User Connected: PROXY_USR"*
Some more commands that were also performed inside Forms module:
begin+
select sys_context('userenv','current_user') v_current_usr from dual+
MESSAGE('Current User: '||v_current_usr,ACKNOWLEDGE);+
exception+
when others then+
MESSAGE('ERR: '||SQLERRM,ACKNOWLEDGE);+
*>>Result: "User Connected: PROXY_USR"*
begin+
select sys_context('userenv','proxy_user') v_proxy_user from dual;+
MESSAGE('Current User: '||v_proxy_user,ACKNOWLEDGE);+
exception+
when others then+
MESSAGE('ERR: '||SQLERRM,ACKNOWLEDGE);+
*>>Result: "Proxy User: "*
OBS: when a connect via SQL*Plus, in a 11g database (Express), and run the commands above, the results are OK. The
APPUSER01 is returned.
Any ideas ?? I will open a SR in Metalink, but I think they will first request a database upgrade,
which is not feasible for us at the moment ...
Thanks in Advance.
Franco

Unfortunately besides trying on a certified combination (maybe use the Developer Database VM and import the required schemas for trial) and going through the documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/doc.11120/e24477/sso.htm I can't offer more. I don't have a 10gR1 database anymore and also I don't have OID to play with.

  • Is there any incompatibility in using different JDBC and Oracle database versions?

    Hi everybody,
    I hope you can answer me ASAP.
    Which version of JDBC driver for Oracle could I use to access an Oracle database version 8.0.4.3.0 running on a SUN machine?
    Is it necessary to use the specific driver concerning to that version or could we use the JDBC version 8.1.6?
    If we decide to use JDBC 8.1.6 to work against the 8.0.4.3.0 database, will we find any incompatibility or problem?
    Thanks.

    I don't know the answer to your question, but while looking for something else, I found a table listing "requirements and compatibilities for oracle jdbc drivers" that might answer your question:

  • Ojdbc14.jar API and Oracle Database Version

    Hi
    Im using ojdbc14.jar for accessing an oracle 10G database.
    Im trying to troubleshoot an exception -
    java.sql.SQLException: Parameter Type Conflict
    that seems to get thrown by the method -
    OraclePreparedStatament.processCompletedBindRow
    I have a couple of questions:
    1. Is the documentation/source available for ojdbc14.jar in order that I can try and find out what this method is supposed to be doing?
    2. Also, can anyone confirm if the jar Im using is the correct version of drivers for accessing a 10G database?
    3. When I go to the JDBC support center at Oracle(http://www.oracle.com/technology/docs/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html) any support documentation/APIs refer only to the Oracle db version and dont mention Java versions. Im using ojdbc14.jar which I guess is for use with Java version 1.4 onwards - how does this relate to the Oracle database versions?
    Thnaks very much in advance to anyone who can give me any suggestions on the above. This issue has stumped me for days now. Ive checked and double checked my code, and the Oracle Java types I have generated from the database, and they all seem to be fine.
    Jon

    unzip it, and look at the MANIFEST.MF file in META-INF
    If you do not know the version, you can just download appropriate one from oracle site.

  • Slow Problems with Oracle Forms 10g and Oracle Database 11g

    Hi, I wonder if there is a compatibility problem between Version 10.1.2.0.2 32 Oracle Forms and Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production. This is because my application runs correctly on a version of Oracle Database 10g, and when we migrated the database to an Oracle Database 11g, slowness problems came out.
    Thanks.

    We have the same issue happening with our custom forms and with some of the standard forms in EBSO. So far we have found that the form invoking a view causes ridiculous slowness in opening the form (40 mins). Using a table access has shortened the open time significantly. At this time Oracle DBAs at OOD have no clear idea why it is happening.
    we are on 11.1 database with 11.5 EBSO

  • Database locking using JSP and Oracle database

    Dear All
    I am reading about how to do database locking in general and i want to implement these mechanisms using JSP pages and oracle database, but i have the following questions:-
    1.If i write a “select for update” quesry in the JSP page will it locks the record ? or it will not lock the record because the connection between the JSP pages and the server will be stateless in most online systems?
    2.If i write all my jave code in transaction , something like this:-
    • Begin transaction
    • Commit or
    • Rollback
    Then should i be worried about the locking issues or the database manger will handle the locking mechanisms to insure data integrity(and what the default mechanism (if any) that the oracle database manger use to do the locking)?
    3. If the answer for question 2 is no, then how can i handle the optimistic and the pentemistic locking using JSP pages?
    BR

    One way to solve this issue is as follows:
    * You add a new column to each database table called 'version' which is of int type.
    * Each time you alter any field in a record, you increament the version number.
    * When you read a record and display it, you store the version number in your code
    * when you go to update the record, you write your sql something like this:
    update person set firstName=? where personId=? and version=?
    Where the version is whatever you stored locally. If someone altered the record in the database while your
    end user was looking at it, the version numbers will not match and the sql statement will
    return zero as the number of records it altered. If its zero, inform the end user someone altered the record
    while he was looking at it and weather or not he wants to proceed.
    The chances of two people altering the same record in a table while both are logged in and viewing the same set of data is small so such collisions will be few.
    You only need transactions if you are updating more than one record at a time (in the same table or multiple tables).
    You dont need it for reading records if you use a single sql statement to read (for example: to join multiple tables).
    In general, you get a (pooled) connection, use it, and close it as quickly as possible in a try/catch/finally block. You dont hold onto it for the duration of the user's session. A book on JDBC should help clarify this.

    (as the oracle 9ias was installed)
    at the instalation of oracle 9i database one error comes
    and shows that Agent configuration Assistant Installation
    fail.
    but After installation of database it work properly.
    there is no problem.
    but when I try to run from through web(by using oracle 9ias)
    it gives Internal error(500).
    i check and find that my appache server for 9ias is working properly and in services of windows 2000 no error comes.

  • Using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore

    We are working on implementing a solution using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore. We initially implemented the Cache as a distributed-scheme which in turn uses the backing-map-scheme. We are trying to introduce transaction management and I used a scheme-ref in a transactional-scheme to point to an already existing distributed-scheme. However when I bring up the server, my custom coherence-cache-config.xml file is not recognized and Coherence comes up with the default setting. Given below is the snippet of my configuration file.
    1)     I would like to understand why the below configuration doesn’t work and am I doing it the right way? If not, what is the correct way of doing it?
    2)     There are a multiple transaction management options given in the documentation. Which are the ones that will work with a distributed-scheme and read-write-backing-map-scheme?
    3)     If transactional-schemes cannot work with distributed-scheme, what is the best way to have a distributed cache with a oracle database as a cache store?
    <caching-scheme-mapping>
    <cache-mapping>
    <cache-name>id<cache-name>
    <scheme-name>example-transactional<scheme-name>
    </cache-mapping>
    </caching-scheme-mapping>
    <caching-schemes>
    <transactional-scheme>
    <scheme-name>example-transactional</scheme-name>
    <scheme-ref>distributedcustomcache</scheme-ref>
    <thread-count>10</thread-count>
    </transactional-scheme>
    <distributed-scheme>
    <scheme-name>distributedcustomcache</scheme-name>
    <service-name>DistributedCache</service-name>
    <backing-map-scheme>
    <read-write-backing-map-scheme>
    <internal-cache-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <!--scheme-ref>categories-eviction</scheme-ref-->
    <scheme-name>inMemory</scheme-name>
    </local-scheme>
    </internal-cache-scheme>
    <cachestore-scheme>
    <class-scheme>
    <class-name>spring-bean:coherenceCacheStore</class-name>
    <init-params>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>setEntityName</param-name>
    <param-value>{cache-name}</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </init-params>
    </class-scheme>
    </cachestore-scheme>
    <!--refresh-ahead-factor>0.5</refresh-ahead-factor-->
    </read-write-backing-map-scheme>
    </backing-map-scheme>
    <autostart>true</autostart>
    </distributed-scheme>

    Hi,
    If you look at the documentation for transactional-scheme here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24290_01/coh.371/e22837/appendix_cacheconfig.htm#BHCIABHA
    you will see that it says The transactional-scheme element defines a transactional cache, which is a specialized distributed cache. That means that a transactional-scheme is already a distributed-scheme.
    You will see from the same documentation above that there is no way in a transactional-scheme to configure things like cache-stores or listeners or even the backing-map-scheme as these are not supported on a transactional-scheme - so you cannot use a cache store.
    Personally I would not use transactional-scheme unless you have some really big reason to do so - the restrictions far outweigh any perceived advantage of having a transaction. There are better ways to build applications so they do not require transactions, that is what we have been doing for years with Coherence so far, and there is no real reason to change that.

    No they cannot send you a document that is available only to those with access to MOS.
    That would violate the conditions of having such service contract credentials.
    Asking someone to violate such privileges is a serious offense and could get that other person's organization banned from all support and all their support contracts cancelled.

  • 32 Bit Installation or Oracle Linux and Oracle Database 10g

    I have an old E-Machine that I wanted to put Oracle Linux and Oracle Database Express 11G on. I was just wanting to do some testing and development on the system. I'm pretty sure the machine is 32bit.
    I just burned a copy of 32 bit Oracle Linux onto a CD. Is there a version of Oracle Database Express that will run on it?
    It seems like there is only a 64 bit version of Oracle Express Database 11g. Is Oracle Database Express 10g installable on Oracle Linux 32 bit?
    Let me know! Thanks in an advance.

    One (or two) caveats with the 10g version, XE can not be patched and the 10.2.0.1 XEs were created before the current daylight savings time rules went into effect.
    If you have access to My Oracle Support there is a method to get updated timezone files for the oracle binaries, you need at least version 4 of the DST files. I've got the MOS docIDs somewhere let us know if needed and I'll dig 'em up.
