Proxy xdcam disc hd422

Dear Sirs,
we work with italian television with xdcam pdw f800 from sony. For eng matter and in order to speed up editing operations,  we would like to edit proxy files from disk and finalize with hd hi res files at the end of editing.
We tried, but the result is Premiere pro cc is not able to work with low res proxy from xdcam pdw f800.
So we opened a ticket
Case #0185185915
and the result is that support said us, there is a bug on cc, but they don't know when will be solved.
FROM ADOBE ITALY
".. He said today the office of competence in the following specific product and I 'was told that the problems and' caused by a bug.
They inserted the same in their report to be able to solve with updates, but I can not give a time for the release of the same. "
[Translated to English.]
Any of you have some workaround?
Please Adobe can you solve the BUG?
Thanks
Alessandro

  • Mastering directly to XDCAM Discs in Pr CS6

    Hi all,
Apologies if this is covering old ground, I did a cursory search but couldn't see a solution.....
We are in the process of switching from FCP 7 to Premiere Pro CS6 and are looking for a little help refining our workflow. Historically, we have shot mostly on Sony XDCAM format and as such have adopted (for better or worse) XDCAM discs as an archival format. We would export our final sequences through the plugin in FCP 7 and that would be that.
    My question is two fold:
         1. Is there a quick and easy way (plugin?) that will enable this export direct to XDCAM disc ala FCP 7?
         2. How easy is it to create a split track master from a sequence that has already been cut?
Any thoughts/opinions on XDCAM disc as archival format are also welcome - currently toying with the idea of a flattened quicktime on LTO alogside our projects rushes. We shoot a mixture of C300 and Sony formats these days.
Thanks for your time - I'm new to the forums so please be gentle!

    Hi Matt,
Thanks for asking, I am actually having this problem as well when mastering to XDCAM from Premier Pro.  Hopefully somebody can provide us an answer.

  • Unable to export to xdcam disc - pdw-f75

    Hi All,
I have a difficulty to export directly to xdcam disc (using PDW-F75 deck) in Adobe Premiere CS6.
The message showed "G:\Clip\C0001.mxf You don't have permission to modify
files in this network Location. Contact the administrator per permission to
make these changes.". However, if I export the file to the desktop locally
and then manually copy/drag to the clip directory in the xdcam disc via
windows explorer, it works. I don't want to waste time by having two steps
to achieve that. The FAM driver that I have is ver 2.3 for Windows 7 Pro 64
bit, which I believe is the latest for PDW-F75.
For your information, I also have Mainconcept plugin installed and tried
using the Totalcode sequence/export setting and etc but still failed.
I noticed the permission in the windows explorer is read-only for all the drive,
clip folder and the rest of the folders. Is it normal?

    Hi All,
Anyone can help me out on this?
    Regards.

  • Export to xdcam disc

is there a way to export the movie back to the xdcam disc?

I just talked to our rep at Sony who had one of their software develpers on the line and they said as of now there isn't any way to get MXF files out of FCPX.  It is on their list of things to get done. So you will need  to use a third party software or bring the MOV back into FCP7 to export.

  • Recording master back to XDCam disc with Final Cut

    Hello there
Sorry for the vague question- I work at a TV station using XDCam for shooting/editing (a mixture of SD and HD)... but they haven't worked out how to archive material... eg where to keep masters of finished programs, compilations of b-roll likely to be needed again etc.
Can the XDCam decks (we have PDW-F30 models) be used to record back onto? Is there anyone using them in this way- eg to generate master copies of programs or segments?
This station can't afford a server-based archive, and we can't archive onto digital tape so would this work? Could we make compilation discs of b-roll and slowly fill them up on XDCam? (Then we could re-use discs for shooting and save some more money).
I have previously worked in environments where DigiBeta was the standard and everything could be kept on tape, from finished programs to b-roll- can XDCam be used in the same way?

Export > Sony XDCAM works just fine, however it is mind bogglingly slow in practice. If this is going to be something you're doing a lot then you'd be better off getting an F75 or similar and laying back to disc via HD-SDI.

  • Premiere CC v7.2 "generic import error" Sony xdcam 422 50mb / PDW F800

I'm receiving a "generic import error" when attempting to import Sony XDCAM footage in to Premiere Pro CC v7.2.0 (PC). The footage is in the original file structure transferred from a Sony XDCAM disc. The format is 1920x1080p, 29.97, 50mbps mpeg-2 long GOP (CBR). Shot with a Sony PDW F800 camera. It opens and plays fine with the Sony XDCAM viewer. I've tried importing the entire folder structure from PP media browser with no success. Not getting any thumbnails or previews from the files. PP will import the proxy files (mxf/mp4) but not the mpeg-2 HD media. Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Wil, got this figured out quite painlessly considering the train wreck that it was to begin with. The material consisted of 4 mxf discs all with sequentially numbered duplicate filenames from disc to disc… cameramen love to torture editors. Simply renaming the clips using the OS would not work so here’s what I did. Starting with Bridge I identified the HD material apart from the 8 audio files and 1 proxy file per clip by performing a file search using the letter (V), only the HD video material has a (V) in the filename. Next I copied only the video files to a work folder as to not alter the original disc structure, I did this for each mxf disc. Next critical step was to turn off all metadata logging in Bridge except the filename metadata, then I used the batch renaming function with 3 criteria: 1-seed each filename with the disc number, 2- retain original clip name, and 3-rename extension to mpg. I did this for each disc. Next step was to batch encode using AME. I processed each disc using the same codec as the original source material, MXF/OP1a, Sony XDCAM 50mb with smart rendering codec enabled. My system ripped through this process at amazing speed, it retained the original source clip time code and the quality appears to be unaltered from the original. The reason for turning off the metadata logging in Bridge was to strip off the mxf reference, AME would not process the files by simply renaming them using the OS. Total time to clean-up train wreck; 40 minutes.
BTW: I did not need the associated audio from these clips otherwise there would have been an extra step involved using premiere’s nesting feature as you had mentioned.
    Happy Holidays.

  • PP CS5  XDCAM Workflow

I've read the pdf about XDCAM workflow.
It says you connect the XDCAM and you can read it's clips like files.
Fine, but it does not give any steps in how to actually accomplish that.
I can read from XDCAM like before; as if it is a tape deck with RS442 COM port control.
I can't write to XDCAM as if it is a tape deck; everything happens like normal but there's no video written to disc.
The older adobe/axio system could write like a tape deck AND drop files back via ftp BUT without any timecode which made that option unusable.
So, I guess I need to drop files back onto XDCAM with PP CS5. The new pdf says timecode is added too.
    HOW?
It says use USB. My PDW1500 has no USB port.
    >>> Could someone give a step by step guide in which is explained how to:
Hook up the PDW1500 to a Matrox CS5 PC and prepare it for file transfer.
Transfer files from XDCAM to Premiere's RAID
Transfer master timelines from Premiere to XDCAM disc with timecode.
Or write back to XDCAM like to a tape deck (as an alternative if timecode can't be added)
Please do not point to generic files that state you can work like this. I need to know HOW to work like this with XDCAM.

The 1500 is an optical drive which works with rewritable blue ray discs
The SxS driver has noting to do with my deck.
The other software looks kind of scary since I do not understand what is what.
I think the driver is for a file level workflow, not for capturing or exporting.
I can't write to the device as if it were a tape.
I have not tried any file level options.
    The problem is extended now.
    >> I can't write to any deck <<
If anyone knows how to double check the path from timeline to deck, then please let me know.

  • Imported XDCAM footage "blacks out" on timeline and when exported, which will not do.

We're having a "horrendous problem" importing XDCAM. About half the clips "black out" while playing on the sequence timeline, although the associated sound files play fine. BTW the clips that black out always do so in the same place in the clip.
A first I thought the camera operator might have been covering the lens, but we can convert the MXF video to mp4 using Pavtube and video plays the entire length of the clip.
This problem happens in CS5, CS5.5, and CS6. It happens when we Import through using the Media Tool or the other way (whatever that's called).
When we EXPORT from the sequence the blackout occurs most of the time, although every once in a while the exported clip wll play in its entirety.
We have several hundred clips we need to use and the workaround is very cumbersome and time consuming, so we'd really like to solve the import problem so imported XDCAM clips work properly on the timeline.
To view the problem click below.
This encode plays the entire clip.
    http://youtu.be/5ylb3ak1W5I
This encode made immediately after the one above blacks out
    http://youtu.be/nlr7sV6kyQs
Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix it?

    Well...
The problem has been solved in a way that indicates that the problem should never have occurred.
We finally were able to borrow a XDCAM disc reader and the people we borrowed it from also incidentally provided a bit of software called "XDCAM Transfer". THAT software solved the problem.
I have spent many many hours reading on the Sony website, the Adobe website, and any other website I could find (next to my desk I have a 6" stack of printouts that I've read) and nowhere did I see this piece of software mentioned.
Once that software was installed it imported everything, even the files we already had on the local HDD.
Thanks everyone for all the attempts.

  • XDCam into 5.1.4

    Hi,
I am working in FCP 5.1 and have a project that was shot on XDCam discs in SD DVCam 16:9.
By downloading the XDCam Transfer 2.7.1 patch, and setting the iLink pref on my deck as FAM (izzat "file access mode?) I have been able in the past to import files into FCP. However, after a long break from using XDCam I've returned to it and the disc is not showing up on the desktop, so I can't import.
The wierd thing is, when I turn the deck off, FCP yells at me about device removal. I've been to disk utility and don't see it there.
    Any thoughts?

I think it is time you upgrade to FCS2, I believe the reason FC yells at you is the RS-422 deck control protocol is the same today as it was back in the day when you first purchased FC 5.1.4, it hasn't changed while new version of FC and their updates have added support for new codecs like XD cam.
    Good Luck

  • Converting an XDCAM 1080/60i 35 VBR timeline to SD 16:9 quicktime

I've created a project in an XDCAM 1080/60i 35VBR timeline. I'd like to export a
standard definition 16 x 9 quicktime out of it for presentation purposes to people without
the facility to play XDCAM discs.
I know I can do this with FCP and/or Compressor, but I'm not sure how.
Can somebody tell me precisely how to go about this?
    Thanks for any assistance.

If you don't have the money to pay for a high quality hardware based standards conversion then you can use a slow (but still good quality) software conversion method ... try Apple's own Compressor application which is part of your Final Cut Studio suite
Or if you prefer to stay within FCP then you might want to have a look at Graeme Nattress's excellent Standards Conversion plugin set:
    http://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
By the way, if you go with the former then don't waste your time staying in the XDCAM codec, instead you'd be better targeting Apple ProRes 422 as your edit intermediate codec for the converted clips. Similarly, if you prefer to stay in FCP and need to to do a timeline based conversion using the Nattress plugins then you would likely do well to set your sequence format to Apple ProRes 422 rather than native XDCAM HD.

  • Cannot import sony xdcam hd mxf files into CS6

I have tried every thing, reinstalling, adobe tech, main concept.
    Any ideas?

    Jim Simon wrote:
Here is the link to the player
OK.  Try skipping that.  Put the disk into a Blu-ray drive and just use Windows Explorer to copy everything over.
We have the same camera and disc drive. You can't put the discs into a standard bluray drive as they have are in a cartridge. The disc reader he's using is the appropriate way to import that media.
I'm not sure what's going on for you but I'm unable to replicate your problem. Put XDCAM disc into drive, copy entire contents to a folder, then in media browser right click on that folder (not the subfolders) and click import. I get a bin named whatever the folder was called, with all my clips inside. I'm on CS6.0.2 on a mac.

  • Sony XDCam HD/ FCP 5.1

Anyone have the definitive answer as to whether or not 5.1 will support ALL of the XDCam HD codecs (incl 35 mb/s) and 24p? I'm getting mixed answers on this one. Sony has a plug-in for FCP that they showed at NAB but it didn't support 35 mb/s yet. Also, I don't have an Intel machine, I'm working on the Quad Core Tower.

Apple announced this at NAB, this will be implemented through the use of a File Access Mode driver (and a FCP import component) plugin from Sony. Although the XDCAM disc will be browsable via FW, the high def media is encoded in the MXF format, which is not yet natively supported in Quicktime. It is the Sony integration plugin (and transfer app) which will unwrap this MXF file and rewrap in a QT compatible movie file on your media drive. The Sony plugin/app already supports transfer of LP,SP and HQ content, the public release for the Sony component and transfer app is slated for end of June.
At this moment, Apple have not publicly released codecs to support the "LP" (18 Mbps) and "HQ" (35 Mbps) codecs, so although one may import the files, as a working solution the initial release will likely support only XDCAM HD at the "SP" quality (25 Mbps) in the timeline using Quicktimes native HDV codec.
When Apple release the LP and HQ codecs then Sony's plugin/app will already support that workflow.
There are a number of seminars already announced regarding the XDCAM HD workflow for FCP, beginning 28th June.

  • Output to XDCAM HD - Audio Settings for Final Sequence?

    Hi,
If the approval gods are smiling, it'll be time to export several programs back to disc for a client in the next week or so. The original clips and the sequence are all at XDCAM HD 1080i60, 35Mbs VBR. I've ingested using Sony PDZ file transfer with a PDW-F75 deck, and everything looks/sounds great on approval QTs so far.
My question is on the audio settings for the final sequence on to XDCAM disc. I've got 2 tracks of talent audio, 2 of nat sound and 4 of music. If I understand the FCP manual correctly, I have to select 4 mono track outputs when doing a file transfer export of the sequence. What settings do I need to choose so that the mix I hear when I play back my sequence in studio is what anyone down the line will hear when they play back the final sequence I've exported to XDCAM disc? That is, if I've got 8 active tracks, what happens to them with the 4 mono track setting? Thanks very much for any suggestions and advice.
    Pat

Agree that the HDV downconvert in the camera is optimal.. but the darn print to video needs to work reliably to GET the hdv material back to the camera
i still have to use iMovie to get my files back to the camera in HDV...
FCP 5.0.4 still doesnt work well

  • Viewing timecode from xdcam and capture frame

    Hi,
I'm looking for a way to view xdcam discs in the mediabrowser and search for a timecode without having to read the whole disc. I just need to grab stills from some of the clips on there. Is there a way to do this?
    Greets and thanks,
    Arno Doup

    Hi Arno,
You might try a partial ingest in Adobe Prelude. Can you try that?
    Thanks,
