PS/2 mouse no longer works after update

I just updated my system, and now the mouse doesn't work.
The cursor is stuck in one area of the screen. I can move it a few centimeters in any direction, but it snaps back to the original position when I stop moving the mouse. The problem is rather bizarre.
I switched out mice to make sure it wasn't a hardware problem, and the mouse works fine in my other operating systems.
What could cause this really odd behavior? I'm thinking I have to change a config file, but I'm not sure what one. My xorg.conf looks fine.
Thanks for your help.

I checked my xorg.conf against the backup with meld and there weren't any changes made to it besides the vendor name of my monitor: Acer. This is the same xorg.conf I used before updating and I didn't have problems with it before, which is why I think the problem may lie somewhere else.

  • Keyboard and Mouse no longer work after update

Earlier today I ran pacman -Syu for the first time since the 18th, and initially everything seemed to be working properly.  However, upon my next boot, both my mouse and keyboard (both USB) no longer worked, leaving me stuck at the login screen unable to move the cursor or switch to a different terminal.  Unplugging and reconnecting my keyboard and mouse did nothing.
A related topic (which could be solved by reconnecting the devices) suggested that booting with runlevel 1 might help, and this allowed me to use the terminal, but any attempt to start X resulted in getting stuck at login in the same way.
Disabling and re-enabling hotplugging via xorg.conf had no impact (there was a note in Xorg.0.log indicating that since hotplugging was enabled, mouse and keyboard drivers were being disabled.  Apparently it's a fairly standard warning).
The only package that was updated that seemed to be input related was xf86-xinput, but downgrading to the previous version did not fix the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might have caused this issue?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Adding to the above: I also tried plugging in an Microsoft USB keyboard at the point when Windows freezes at the Windows log-in screen. The keyboard is not recognized and the only way I can leave this screen is to power-off the computer.

  • Double Click on Magic Mouse No Longer Works after 10.9.1 Mavericks Upgrade

I just recently updated to Mavericks 10.9.1 and once the computer restarted, I noticed that double-click on my Magic Mouse no longer worked.  I searched the forum and couldn't find anyone experiencing this.  I also went into System Preferences --> Mouse but there is nothing about enabling double-click or adjusting double-click speed on there.
Would appreciate if someone were able to help me solve this.  Thanks!

    Try resetting the PRAM.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

    EDIT
I think it's something related to the driver. If i change the driver to another printer model from CUPS the printer works. Prints garbage, but at least works. So this means that we have to wait for a new driver or what?

  • CP60-615DX Touchpad and external mouse no longer work after WIndows 7 SP1 update

Let me start by saying I am in the IT field, though clearly far from being great at it. I was updating a CP60-615DX at work with Win 7 x64 SP1. It installed with no errors or anything I'd consider abnormal. Once it was finished, the touchpad no long worked, as well as any mouse I'd hook up via Usb. So I checked Device manager, and the Touchpad is listed with the yellow exclamation mark, as well as mice I hook up. So I did what any respectable IT guy would do, I went to HP and downloaded x64 drivers for the Touchpad port and installed them. But they didn't fix the issue, literally nothing happened. So I installed the latest chipset drivers. Still nothing changed. So I uninstalled the device and manually added it by doing the advanced driver install for a new device, pointing it to the directory where the .exe file had placed the drivers. ...Nothing. So I uninstalled SP1,.... nothing. After uninstalling SP1, redid every aforementioned step, nothing. So my question is, **bleep**? Anyone know another way to fix an issue where the scrolling devices stop working and the drivers won't fix the issue?
Btw, the user had never set up windows restore, and my only other thought is pulling personal documents off and restoring to factory defaults. One more bit of info before I forget, when I went into Windows Recovery (which loads a pre-environment mini OS for you to restore and fix issues), the mouse worked, telling me it's not a hardware issue, it's a Windows vs devices issue.

    Hi,
According to your description, since system reinstallation is not helpful, it's probably a hardware problem, it would be better to check if it is the device itself problem.

  • Scrolling on Magic mouse no longer work after OSX update

I have just performed an OSX update and after restarting I immediately noticed that the scrolling function and other gestures no longer work on the magic mouse. I have also noticed that no gestures work on the Mac Book Pro track pad. The only function that works on the mouse is moving the mouse pointer and the buttons. Same goes for the track pad. Some great update that was. Has anyone else discovered this and how do I repair this loss of function? When I first initiated the update, I saw that there was a download required which mention some improvements for the mouse/keyboard but mainly updates required to support the new magic track pad. Is it possible to revert this individual update and if so how? Thanks.

You were almost correct, but not quite. You can see updates in /Library/Updates. I'm not sure what receipts is, but it didn't contain the track pad/mouse update package I was expecting to see. However, I did eventually find it in Updates after a trip to my local Apple store. What happened was that the original update process completed about 95% but for some reason crashed. When I restarted, it appeared that there was nothing wrong, until that is I tried to use the mouse and track pad. I presume that the update process uninstalled the previous package but didn't actually install the new update. I downloaded the the latest update from Apple, but it appeared to be older than what I downloaded from the Update process, so it wouldn't install. I would suggest that here lies a bug. The package install process did detect the new trackpad / mouse package but it didn't detect that it wasn't installed and should have prompted me to install it.

  • Airport Express b/g no longer working after update to Airport Utility 5.3.1

after updating to this the other day, my AE b/g no longer works - like many others on the forum, i get the flashing amber / yellow blinkie light situation. i can hard reset it and get it to initially show up in AU 5.3.1, but once i try to join it to my wireless network (i use it with my laser printer) it never takes, disappears from AU, and sits there flashing relentlessly.
seems pretty clear that it's related to the 5.3.1 update - it was working fine for nearly 2 years without any issues prior to this. i find it hard to believe it had a total failure related to this - in fact, i just finally updated yesterday after being asked to for 2 weeks, and that's when it stopped working, no question about it.
any ideas on getting it to work? i've tried everything on these forums to no avail. or am i stuck waiting on AU 5.3.2?

I just solved the same issue. First I reset my whole network from scratch by hard resetting all devices (1 AEBS N and two AXg). Then I started configuring my main base station and added the other devices to the network one by one. (I have a WDS). Only after setting all the devices to channel 6, did the green light stay on.
Apparently when you configure a AX to participate in an existing WDS network and you enter the existing network name in the configuration panel of Airport Utility, it creates a separate network with the same name. In order to force it to join the existing network, make sure their Airport ID numbers are entered under the WDS tab in Airport as WDS remotes.

  • Airport no longer works after update.

I occasionally use my imac as a base station to connect a laptop to the internet via airport. Since installing the recent security updates my laptop can no longer see a network (I also connect via a pda and this no longer works either).
Airport indicates full signal strength but clearly there is no network.
Tried deleting prefs but still wont work.

    Hi there BDAqua...
I used this Pacifist software and followed instructions on this thread, rebooted, nothing seemed to change. Repaired permissions, nothing changed... I thought, oh well! Maybe I'll go to my local (Warsaw Poland) Apple repair centre.
Sadly, I put my computer to sleep, about an hour later, opened it up with ethernet cable attached for internet, and noticed the wireless icon was now dark... lo and behold, clicked on it and my network was checked (this after having had my password "rejected" a million times before) and ... I carefully slipped the ethernet cable out of the socket... and I was still connected.
So my wireless is working again, since doing all that stuff (back to prior firmware version) but for the life of me I don't know why, since it didn't seem to be fixed immediately after all that tinkering and rebooting! Any thoughts?? Did I actually do something that fixed it (must be, since I finally fooled around with it after almost 3 weeks of no wireless) or was this just random??
This is far too un-Apple-ish, by the way! I was used to this with PCs, but first time I've ever had to get so technical with my Mac!

  • Gmail Push no longer works after update to iOS 4.2.1

I have tested this several times. What previously worked as push yesterday no longer works as push from my Gmail account today after updating to 4.2.1. Is anyone else having this issue? In order to get mail to show up on my phone, I have to go into Mail on my phone. Then the little connecting thing starts up and all the mail since the last time I checked appears.

This may be related -- I just updated my iPhone to 4.2.1 from 4.1. I immediately found that my Google Apps accounts, which had been configured as vanilla IMAP in Mail.app and successfully synced with iPhones as such for the past couple of years, have now started to sync with my iPhone as gmail accounts (not plain IMAP) and have therefore completely lost the custom From addresses, as it seems the iPhone does not allow custom From addresses in gmail accounts. (The accounts list in iPhone mail now has little red gmail icons instead of the generic blue account icons.) It also seems that push no longer occurs, whereas it certainly used to.
Deleting all of the mail accounts from the iPhone, power-cycling the iPhone and then freshly syncing mail accounts from iTunes results in the same outcome. It is as though the iPhone is looking at the IMAP/SMTP settings and inferring that since they end with .gmail.com that the accounts are of type gmail, regardless of the fact that I have said that they are plain old IMAP. (It is tempting to create a noddy domain with CNAMEs pointing at {imap,smtp}.gmail.com just to fool the iPhone however it would probably then complain about invalid SSL certificates.)
I deleted one of the accounts and recreated it manually on the iPhone. This lets me create a plain IMAP account even with {imap,smtp}.gmail.com server names, however when editing the address field, the keyboard which appears is bizarre -- no comma key! (Yes, I searched the various modifier keys, etc.) So, I copied a comma into the clipboard, pasted it into the middle of two From addresses and was at least mildly relieved to find that the mail program did then let me choose between the addresses. However, given half a dozen Google Apps accounts and a plethora of custom From addresses, there is no way that I am going to create this stuff manually. Maybe I will give that CNAME trick a go after all...
My iPad on 4.2 is fine, however I have a hunch that I have not since resynced mail accounts to it since updating. I'll certainly not be daring to do that now.

  • Control key no longer works after update.

After updating Lion the control key no longer works. It beeps when pressing control and then a number key but nothing happens.
This is left control key though. Right still works?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are UNIX shell commands. They’re harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of running these commands, search this site for other discussions in which they’ve been used without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search.
    Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
    Step 4
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Magic mouse no longer works after Lion upgrade

After upgrading to Lion my magic mouse failed to work. I plugged in an older USB mouse and thankfully it does work. It appears the System Preference for Blue Tooth no longer has my machine name in it, instead it has "Name not available" and the "On" check box will not stay checked when I reopen the preference. The syncing process "Set Up New Device..." doesn't seem to work either, it searches but doesn't find eventually the flashing LED on the mouse goes out.
I've tried to solve this but failed. I believe its something wrong with the installation of Lion on my iMac because I installed Lion on my lap top and the magic mouse WILL sync with it.
What do you suggest I do to remedy this situation?

Solved it myself. Re installed Lion.
    Thanks Radio for your help

  • HELP! iPod no longer works after update

I've been using my 20gb clickwheel ipod without incident for a year now, my last update had been iTunes 5 and hadn't updated my iPod recently either (why bother..it worked fine?).
I wanted to purchase music from the iTunes music store, but it wouldn't let me unless I upgraded to iTunes 6 and updated my iPod. OK - so I did that- upgraded iTunes to 6.0.1 and updated tghe iPod using the latest updated dated 2005-10-12. Then the horror begins.
On the first attempted synch post update - my iPod screen turned into a folder/exclamation point icon and stopped working. I tried resetting by holding down the center button and menu..it restarted and went back to the same folder/exclamation point icon. No luck.
I've tried restoring it repeatedly and then synching my library back to the now clean and restored iPod and it stops synching at different points and crashes (after 31 songs - crash iTunes - iPod freezes on the "Do not disconnect" screen - strange clicking noise - restore - try again - 58 songs...same... restore ..again...45 songs.. you get the picture).
It worked fine BEFORE the update except I couldn't purchase music. There has been NO change except installing the updates (it hasn't been jostled, dropped or anything). What can I do? The update killed my iPod?!!!! I am at my wits end!!!!!!
    -Tory

OK..I've tried many things and my iPod is still hosed after updating. I upgraded my Mac to Tiger. I was told that the there might be some issues with synching using firewire with the new update - so I bought a USB cable and tried synching with that.
I have the same issue as before. I can restore the iPod, but when I start synching my music from Itunes back to the blank, restored iPod - it synches up anywhere from 20-200 songs and then freezes (spinning beach ball on one song halfway synched for an hour - then force quit iTunes - and start all over again: restore, synch, crash).
You know, I got burned by the 1st generation 5gb iPod battery issue, then the headphone jack stopped working on my 2nd generation, now my monochrome clickwheel iPod freaks out after Apple forces me to update so I can get my paid music back (it removed, yes, REMOVED my purchased songs because I was still using an older version of iTunes - when I updated to 6 I got them back - how Microsoft is THAT?).
I am really losing my faith in Apple's ability to make a quality product.I am despondent. If anyone has any advice - I would be most grateful...
