Did you consider using one of the "workarounds" below to run an existing version of the AD Module for PowerShell under a specific PowerShell version:
    a. #require -version 3.0    (in ps1 script)
    b. powershell -version 3.0

  • Acrobat XI unstable on Win7 and Win8

Anyone else having trouble with creating/appending a webpage from browser to a PDF.
    Typical problems:
    firefox crashes during creation
Creation popup window keeps running with no progress
Error popups "DDE unable to communicate with Acrobat"
In ability to capture Web pages that have JavaScript
( The most frequent language on the web;  Acrobat has JS built in )
When this happens, I stop having the browser append the page,
and instead request the page be appended from Acrobat.
Serious Flaw:  If the page I'm viewing was arrived at by Single Sign On
to the site, Acrobat will only collect the signon redirection page.
That is why appending the page from a logged in browser is important.
Most annoying:  Acrobat does not remember the name of the last PDF used.
It always truncates the name into something unusable.
I have to ALWAYS find the last PDF I was writing to for a new "Append" request
Acrobat becomes non-responsive when DDE connections fail.
It means I cannot launch Acrobat at all ... even for different pdf files.
Solution:  Task Mugger and kill the running Acrobat processes.
I have several Acrobat dmp files ... I opt-in to "make Acrobat better" ... is Adobe
getting these crash failures?  Something more I have to do at my end?
As far as I can tell by dates, the crashes had nothing to do with Task Manager kills.
I see the same problems in both Win7 and Win8.
Acrobat X worked much better ... but the plugin was only available for Internet Explorer,
    so I upgraded to XI.
Super annoying:  Adobe does not appear to ever have tested appending from a
browser to a PDF that was just created.   It always presents a corrupted filename
    for selection.
    My Solution:
    Create an entirely new directory
Place the pdf I want to create there as the only file
When Acrobat "forgets" the filename, it does still remember the directory
and I don't have to search for the PDF I want to append to.
It still is an additional keystroke to select the file ... which really slows me down.
Please fix these things.  Or do I have to wait for XII version to get any fixes?
I am using Acrobat XI Pro Version 11.0.06

Perfect example of failures.  Viewing this page from firefox, "convert to PDF"

My keyboard volume controls suddenly stopped working
If the volume controls on your keyboard stops working, check the Human Interface Device Access service on your computer to make sure it is set to Automatic.
In the Start menu, type View local services.
From the Search Results list, select View local services.
In the Services dialog box, locate Human Interface Device Access. Make sure the status is set to “Started.”  If it is not started, click Start the service.
Right-click Human Interface Device Access and select Properties.
On the General tab, in the Startup type, select Automatic, and then click OK.

  • TouchSmart IQ500 and Win8?

    Hello.
    HP TouchSmart IQ500.
    System #: FK936AA-ABG
    Serial #: 3CR----B32(blanked for security)
    Model #: IQ518a
What is HP's position on this machine and Win8?
I have one of these machines running Win8 64-bit, but it often gives problems.
Video driver issues with the screen going blank(which I learn by reading other posts, is quite a common issue with Win8 on the TouchSmart machines), and recently, sound problems, where the sound just mutes by itself, and there is nothing you can do to make the sound work again.  Sometimes, if you wait a while it works again, but the sound can just fail half way through a movie for no apparent reason.  There is NO warning, wierd sounds or anything - it just dies and you can't get sound again from that point.  Rebooting SOMETIMES fixes the problem, but only with about a 75% success rate.  It is NOT the application causing the problem with the sound - no applicaiton that uses sound will output it - not even the Windows Sound app in Control Panel.
So, at the end of the day, can someone at HP please confirm for me if this model machine is actually compatible with Win8?
I am guessing that it is NOT supported at this stage, as I have not been able to find any Win8 specific drivers for this model machine, unless I am not looking in the right place, and that is quite possible!!!!
    Thanks for any replies.

  • Print servers and printers problems on Win7 and Win8

    Hello,
We have some computers, working on Windows operating system in the office: a few forking on the good old XP sp3, one running on the Win7 x64 home edition and one running on Win8 professional (the last one installed for new OS testing purposes)
During last two months I have tested a few print servers attempting to find one which can work with Windows 7: Trendnet, Synology, and D-link print servers. However, unsuccessfully. Here is the result:
       1) Any print servers is working perfectly with WinXP sp3 (full printing and MFP function support, easy configuration and access, successfully scanning and printing operations in 100% cases)
       2) No one print server is working correctly with Win7 home x64 (mostly successful installation but complicated and unclear configuration; printed pages often is missing, no scan support for MFP.
       3) There is a little bit better situation with Win8: 100% printing support on the same equipment but no scan support for MFP
Could you please help me with followings:
    1) Could you please help me configure print servers and printers on Win7 x64, including printing and scanning support?
    2) Could you please help me configure scanning support for Win8?
Please find full list of affected hardware bellow:
    1) Machines, running on Win XP: Panasonic CF-29, CF-74, HP Compaq dc7600, some Acer laptops;
    2) Machine, running on Win7 x64 home: Asus UX21, (OS probably was preinstalled on the factory)
    3) Machine, running on Win8 pro: Lenovo X200 tablet
    4) Printer HP LJ1020 with drivers for XP and Win7, x86 and x64
    5) MFP printer Canon MP600 with drivers for XP and Win7, x86 and x64
    6) Print server: D-link DPR-2000
    7) Router: Cisco RV042G
All the machines has correct drivers installed, all the printers supports all the services if connected to computer directly. I have made all possible steps solving mentioned problems, including automated problem solving wizards on Win7.

  • Qosmio X870-15D and Win8.1 - popup message "Flash Cards Test Version"

    Hi eveyone !
Since I updated my X870-15D native Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, I get a popup message telling : "+*TOSHIBA Flash Cards*+ (title) +*Win8-TestVersion*+" and two buttons "OK" and "Cancel", each time I boot up ; whatever button I clic, the popup disappears
How can I get rid of that irritating popup please ?

You could try to uninstall the applications from Win 8.1 system but Im not quite sure if this would be helpful.
Fact is that Win 8.1 upgrade should be done using special step by step instruction. In case you will not follow this instruction, some software parts might not work properly.
By the way: In case you have problem only with the Flash Cards Support Utility, I would recommend you to uninstall this Flash Cards Support Utility (also called TOSHIBA Function Key Utility) from the system. After notebook reboot, download the TOSHIBA Function Key Utility for Win 8.1 and install it again.

    Thank you

    Use >>this<<
    Don't try flashing in Windows.
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (qd3.rar) and put the included file (TV271MH.150) on that stick.
Rename TV271MH.150 to 150.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive provided on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 150.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

  • Drive partition clarifications and win8.1 rollback to win8

Please forgive me if I have this in the wrong category, and a bit wordy.
Model Dell XPS 18 with i5 and 500gb HDD and 32gb SSD.
The primary drive was repartitioned into a 120gb drive for the OS and a 324gb for files.
Under disk management there are shown 8 partitions:  500mb EFI system, 40mb OEM, 490mb OEM, 120gb Primary with boot page and crash dump, 350mb recovery, 324gb primary for files, 10.42gb recovery, 8.97gb OEM.
The 32gb SSD drive only displays an 8gb hibernation partition.
Within the Intel Rapid Storage program it lists both the 8gb FFS and a 22gb Dev_Cache.
Why are there 2 recovery partitions (350mb and 10.42gb)?
Why are there 3 OEM partitions (40mb, 490mb and 8.97gb)?
I installed the win8.1 update and intend on restoring the machine back to win8 with a Dell OS recovery and Restore USB Key.  My understanding is the Win8.1 update deletes the original Dell win8 recovery image.  If there is no more dell recovery
image available, can the OEM partitions be removed to recover space?  Future file and image backups can be managed via windows.
The XPS 18 machine does not use windows method of hibernation, but uses Intel Rapid Start with the hibernation partition on the SSD.
Because the hibernation data is on the SSD drive, can the 6.6gb hiberfil.sys file in the root c: be deleted without any performance hit or other issues?

Thanks for your response.  Dell sent a restore flash drive, and yes the MBR of the EFI partition remained as win8.1 after the restore, and yes, all the Dell recovery data is wiped clean with the win8.1 update.  Only after the EFI partition
is deleted, corrupted or reformatted, only then the restore flash drive creates complete new clean partitions on the entire drive, and just 2 of the them: EFI and Primary, all back to win8, shiny and new :-)
Also, my testing indicates the hiberfil.sys file is not needed with the Intel rapid start partition on the SSD drive, and the pagefile.sys can be set to a very small size when using the Intel rapid storage with the SSD drive.  This saves another 12GB
    of HDD!
Here are some comments I want to share with others that will influence your decision to update to 8.1.
Win8.1 is not a simple update, and there is almost no chance of going back without the original restore discs.  Even so, if the restore utility does not see any corruption, it won't restore the MBR.  The result is you might
have a Win8 OS with a Win8.1 MBR.  When you make a recovery flash drive, it even tells you to label it as win8.1.
My main issue with Win8.1 was the lack of system-wide XP style scaling.  With a 1080p monitor, and scale set above the 125% standard, results in MOST programs text looking fuzzy, and MOST windows dialog boxes and windows utilities too.  The
programs can be set to XP scaling individually by changing properties, however the windows dialog boxes and built in programs cannot.  Until this is corrected, no win8.1 for me.  They claim it is due to the up and coming 4k monitors, and if they
let you globally set it to XP scaling, the program text would be too small to read.  Maybe so, but let me make that decision.  Moreover, why do windows own programs and utilities do not scale properly and look fuzzy.  This is a deal breaker.
The start bar in win8.1 is only a little better, however there are many programs (like classicshell) that correct it to be just like win7 or vista or even XP.  There are programs that let you set the metro background image like 8.1 too.
I wanted to share the results of my experience and research.

  • Portege M750 and Win8.1 Pro -tablet buttons don't work

    Hi
I'm having difficulties installing the tablet buttons in WINDOWS 8.1 Pro. Everything else works, perfectly.
In Windows 8 Pro this buttons worked nicely, but now, after a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro two of the buttons don't work. The buttons are the Toshiba assist button and the presebtation button. I've tried to configure them in Toshiba assist software but nothing happens.
I'm sure I've installed all drivers that made wverything work with Windows 8. As anyone tryed this and add success?

    > I'm sure I've installed all drivers that made wverything work with Windows 8
Windows 8.1 is not Windows 8 and many of Toshiba Win 8 drivers and tools dont work or are not fully compatible with Win 8.1
As far as I know the Toshiba does not support Win 8.1 on this Portege M750.
This means that no Win 8.1 drivers will be released and in such case some notebook features like the control buttons could not work properly.
Fact is that using Windows Vista or Win 7, such buttons were controlled by Value Added Package. This package does not exist for Win 8.1 and has been replaced by other software called Toshiba System Driver
So in case you want to try to get the buttons to work, I recommend checking this with Toshiba System Driver
