PS and AI save file rename behavior

Illustrator and Photoshop for Windows 8: save and save for web dialog file name fields will select the entire name when I start typing after placing the cursor at any point within the name. I'm only able to type one character before everything gets selected and then replaced with the second (and following) character(s) completely. This is an EXTREMELY IRRITATING way for this to behave.
If I have filename-this.png and I want to change it to filename-that.png, I want to be able to select "that" or put the cursor after the "t" and be able to type or delete as every other entry field in existence behaves.
What I end up needing to do is:
1. Place the cursor
2. Type one character
3. Wait for the entire name to get auto-selected
4. Place the cursor again
5. Start retyping the part of the name I wanted to change in the first place, finally being able to.
Infrequently saving this way is irritating but when I need to save out a handful, a bunch, or 20 files--it becomes a burden stress that I'm certain is stealing years from my life.

I have Windows 7 64-bit and don't experience this behavior. From my experience this usually occurs when using a standard user account and the UAC settings on the system.
If you are using a standard user option six here might be a long term solution

Connect the external drive to your Mac and drag the files from it to your Mac's internal drive. Then dismount and disconnect the external drive, connect the 1TB external drive, and drag the files from the internal drive onto the external. Nothing will have been deleted from any of the drives up to this point; the files will only have been copied. Verify that the files are readable. There's no reason they shouldn't be; this is just a precaution.
Now if you wish to delete the files from any of the drives, drag them to the Trash, and Empty the Trash while the drive from which they came is still connected. If you disconnect the drive before emptying the Trash, the files you were trying to remove from it won't be deleted. They'll remain in the Trash and continue to take up space on the drive.
Note that if your external drives are in NTFS format, you won't be able to write anything to them or delete anything from them, though you will be able to read and copy the files they contain. The NTFS disk format is read-only to the Mac OS, unless you have a third-party NTFS driver installed. To make your drives cross-platform readable and writable, you must reformat them in the FAT32 or ExFAT format.

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

Property Loader and then Save File

I have an application where I'm programmatically building my sequence file from a spec document. I generate a CSV that has all of my properties, and build a dummy sequence from template functions. I can import the properties to this file using Import/Export, save the file, and then run the rest of my generator sequence, but I need to automate the whole process.
I am able to use the property loader step from the sequence that I'm actually generating and the parameters are loaded without a problem. I attempted to move this into my sequence that builds that sequence, and it didn't work. I GetSequenceFileEX before loading to make sure it's open, perform the load, and then Save the sequence file and ReleaseSequenceFileEX, but it's not doing anything. Is what I'm trying to do possible, and if so, what am I doing wrong?

First let me make sure I understand your situation. It sounds like you've already built the sequence that can programmatically build a sequence of template functions then populate using a Property Loader step in the generated sequence. You are hoping to remove that Property Loader from the generated sequence and instead have the generating sequence load the properties and embed them as defaults in the generated sequence. This way you would avoid having to run the Property Load step every time you ran this sequence. Is this correct?
Assuming it is, I believe this exceeds the capabilities of the Property Loader functionality. It isn't designed to "push" properties to another sequence. Therefore your options are to either stick with the Property Loader step at the beginning of your generated sequence or implement the parsing and assigning of the CSV to manually populate the template steps.
Please post back if I misunderstood you or you have additional questions.

Download pdf = how to open and not save file

in my app i have to download a file. at the beginning the file is called with blazeds as a ByteArray.

i like to open an application associated on the Operation System when the user download the file. eg download the report.pdf => the pdf reader opens.
i tried hard but could not find a way to force this, in my app the save file dialog opens.

Don't think it's possible, due to security reasons (instantly being able to run a downloaded file spells out massive problems).

I am trying to update Firefox. When I click on "dowload" the box pops up and says "save file" or "cancel". Usually it says "Run" or "open".. how do I fix this so I can do the update ?

Firefox does not have a built-in "Run" option on downloads for security reasons. If you "Run" an item, your anti-virus/anti-spyware may not have an opportunity to fully examine the contents until it is already installed on your hard drive. Result: damage, if infected, is already installed on your system.

Error message 'Could not save to path /Users/yogasail/Documents/' appeared and cannot save files?

I have an iMac 21.5 running OS X 10.9.4:Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5:Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. I have suddenly got this message every time I try to save a file -'Could not save to path /Users/yogasail/Documents/Emma/xxxx.rtf. Choose a different path.' Unable to save anything now?? Can anybody help?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Step 1

Everytime i click to download something and hit save file the download box opens but after that happens i cant double click on the file to open or install the program. any suggestions?

Why does the Downloads Save files to Browse button do nothing when pressed?

I'm trying to download a couple of different files from a couple of different web sites. I see the "Opening {filename}" dialog box with the "Would you like to save this file?" question and the Save File button, but nothing happens when I click on the Save File button except that the dialog box closes.
When I go into Tools/Options General tab, I select the "Save files to" button, and when I click on the Browse button to choose a directory, nothing happens.
It appears I can no longer download files.

Please disregard. My "My Documents" folder is mapped to a file server on the network, and for some reason the last time I logged in, I was denied access to that network resource. I logged out and logged back in again, and I am able to download successfully.

Desktop and Screen Saver in System Prefs hangs. Why?

I just migrated everything over perfectly from my old intel mac to my new one. when i go to "desktop and screen saver" in the system preferences and try to choose a folder of images for screen saver, sys prefs hangs and i have to force quit. i am trying to choose the same folder i used in my old mac but i have the same problem when trying to chose any folder. is there some "desktop and screen saver" file that could be corrupted that I need to delete? if not, why is it hanging?

I too am having the same problem as the original poster. I tried what was suggested as far as creating a new admin. account and still have the same problem with no iPhoto library showing up and the desktop/screensaver preferences hanging up and finally forcing a quit to close it.
I migrated everything from my old computer to this new one including the system software. It was suggested by someone else to reinstall the system software which I have done also with no change in the problem. (something to do with shared libraries I think????)
Any more ideas?

File rename with counting from 0 instead of 1

I have Aperture, the latest update installed.
I need to rename small series of pictures to XXXXXXXX_00.jpg, XXXXXXXX_01.jpg and so on. (I copy/paste the XXXXXXXX from a list of productcodes in Numbers)
The only solution so far is to rename the first to XXXXXXXX_00.jpg with the 00 as custom text and to rename the following 6 or so to XXXXXXXX_01.jpg,...,XXXXXXXX_06.jpg
Does anyone have a clue how to do this at one go and set the file renaming to Customname_Counter00. Aperture only lets you use Counter01 :-(

This should work for you (here's hoping the screen shot shows)
The counter is set to start at 0, number of digits is set to 3. This is what you get
even though the example in the preset window shows the number as 1 when it runs with the # of digts set to 3 it will pad it out to 000

I deleted my download folder and now I can't download anything. I can't select the folder to "save file to" and when I select "ask me where to save files" I still can't download. it says your file will start downloading, but then it doesn't. Help!!

I deleted the folder that saves everything that is downloaded from Firefox. After that I can't download anymore. I've tried clearing my download history, reset the download folder, reset the download action by renaming the mimetype.rdfs file and it's still not working. I've tried to choose a different download folder but it doesn't let me select any folder at all. If I select "ask me where to save files" and then try and download something, the download doesn't start after I select save to. The only time it does actually download is when I select "open with...windows mediaplayer" when downloading then the download will start. Please help. Thank you.

I can't save and open .ai files.

I can't save and open the file with special character in virtual drive(using communications). -> refer to this.. ( http://software.naver.com/software/summary.nhn?softwareId=MFS_105031 )
*Special character I used is 黒(not 黑).
If I rename the file name(黒.ai -> test.ai), the file is opend successfully.
And when I save the file as "Illustrator ver.8 format", the file is saved well.
This is the error message I have.
- open : this file cannot be found.
- save : The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

CS4 Photoshop - saving on NAS storage - open file won't save without renaming it.

open file won't save without renaming it. If you try to save a file that you have adjusted in CS4 Photoshop on a networked drive, it won't save it. If you rename it, sure. If you are working on the local drive it is not a problem.
By the way, we have 2 users in house. Both on Mac systems and both are using CS4 Creative Suite. One Mac is OSX 10.6.8 - the other is Mac OSX 10.8.3. The older Mac system does not have a problem.
Is this a Mac operating system problem? would upgrading to CS6 solve the issue for our Mac OSX 10.8 ?
