PS CC 2014 Actions launch Preferences Window

I've been using Photoshop Actions for years but recently I've encountered some odd behavior. I made a simple action that removes transparency from a document by executing the Trim command. The last part of the action then saves the changes and closes the PSD file. It worked great until today.
Here are the steps I'm performing:
While I'm in Bridge, I select all my files in the current folder, I initiate this Action from Tools \ Photoshop \ Batch. This switches me over to PS with the Batch window open. From there, I can choose the action from the drop down list  and run it.
The action runs its course on the selected files with no issues the first time around.
However, if I try to run the action again on files in a different folder (from Bridge), I keep getting the Preferences Units & Rulers window launches each time the file loads. I have to sit there and press the Escape key each time in order for the action to complete.
I tried to duplicate the behavior by stepping through the Action manually in order to pinpoint which step is the culprit, but the Preferences window doesn't load. It only does it when the Action runs on its own.
Anyone know why this would happen?

If you create an action set with just the one action and save the set upload the uploade it to the web and post a link to the .atn file we can download the action and test that on our machines.  You will get feedback from both Mac and PC users. It sound odd that it would work once then fail the second  time. Was Photoshop CC 2014 up before you used bridge menu tools>photoshop>batch the first time or was Photoshop started because you used tools>photoshop>batch.  If is was not up did you try closing PS down before the second batch?

  • Running Batch Actions in Bridge causes PS's Preferences window to open repeatedly

I just upgraded to CC at work, and ever since I've had a problem when I batch run Photoshop Actions from Bridge.
I have some simple Actions set up in PS to do some conversions for large batches of images (convert to RGB, resize, change DPI, etc.). But when I run them from Bridge like I always have, it causes Photoshop to open the Preferences window to the "Units & Rulers" tab. And that, unfortunately, pauses the batch conversion until I close the Preferences window. This happens at least once per file, but usually twice. Pretty annoying.
I never had this problem when I was using CS6, but just in case there was some sort of incompatibility with my old Actions, I remade one of them in CC, but the Preferences window still pops up.
This only happens when I run Batch Actions from Bridge. When I run the Action on a single file from PS, it works fine.
Any ideas? Maybe I've found a new bug?
    Thanks!

BTW, I was able to get around this problem by opening all the files I wanted to run the Action on using Bridge, then manually triggering the Batch dialog via Photoshop and using the 'Source: Opened Files' option:
Using this system, I didn't get any errors. Luckily, I also didn't have a huge number of files. If I did, I'd probably have to copy them all into a temp folder using Bridge, then run using 'Source: Folder'. Definitely a pain when they are all right there in Bridge ready to be batched.

  • Blank white System Preferences window

    Hello all,
I purchased a secondhand G5 for the purpose of having a second internet station at home (I do most of my work on a late 2008 MBP but we've got multiple people here who like to use the Internet at the same time). When I set up this computer, it was hooked up to an old flat screen monitor (bought when they first came out) the HD was wiped clean, Leopard was installed, the internet was set up and working and everything seemed good to go. However, I wanted to get into the system to change the monitor resolution setting since the type/icons were a little big for my taste.
When I pulled up System Preferences, I got a completely blank white window. This happens every time System Prefs is launched. I can click on this window where normally icons would be, and things seem to happen (the window changes size) but it remains completely white. Moreover, all of the pulldown menus from the top menu bar also are blank white. I can move my mouse down in the File menu where Quit would normally be, and I can click on it and System Preferences quits. If I quit out of System Prefs, the Finder and other software windows act normally. When I log into System Prefs again, same blank white window, same problem.
This blank white window thing also happens with Preview, but I have not noticed it with any other programs on the system (yet).
Here's what I've done to troubleshoot:
Discarded appropriate systempreferences.plist file in the User>Library>Preferences window, also appropriate file in User>Library>Caches. Emptied trash and rebooted. Same problem.
Reinstalled Leopard, 10.5. Tested, same problem. Upgraded with combo pack to 10.5.8, tested, same problem.
Swapped out video card for a known working video card, tested, same problem.
Swapped monitor for known working new monitor, tested, same problem.
Am I missing some other .plist or similar file that should be discarded? Has anyone experienced anything like this and been able to solve it? Would this be due to software issues, or some kind of hardware issue? Because I can't see System Preferences, I can't create a new user account and discard the old one to try and resolve any software issues, my only choice is to do a clean install (which I have done to no avail).
Help? I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance.
    Raji

Well, at least we are seeing some light here. I forgot about Safe Mode! When I started up into that, I can see the System Preferences windows just fine... it's no longer white, and I can select what I need and make changes.
However, I have done permissions repair from every possible angle (both from HD and DVD), I have reset the PRAM, and I still get a blank Sys Prefs window on normal startup.
The only thing suggested here I have not tried is replacing the PRAM battery (since at the moment, I don't have one). That will be the next angle of attack but I'll have to wait to get one in.
Other than the battery, could this be some kind of peripheral or software conflict?
This is bugging me! I mean really.... it's just an Internet station, but one does want things to work properly nonetheless!
Thanks for the help so far.... ! It has been useful.

  • Can I change Type Action "URI" to Type Action "Launch" in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2?

I am trying get a link in my pdf form to launch Windows Explorer to a folder or just launch the excel file in MS Excel. I used LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 to create the form. My problem is most of my users have Chrome as their default browser. When they click on the link on the form it opens in the Chrome browser. If IE is their default browser it opens Windows Explorer so they can open and edit the file. But like I said, most of my users are using Chrome. In my search for a fix, I saw a discussion (see below) where they are trying to launch a pdf file with "Launch" vs. "URI".
So I was wondering, can I change Type Action "URI" to Type Action "Launch" using LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2?

  • Disabling special alerts in the "Change Action Center settings" window

    Hi
In Windows 8.1 Update, I noticed that, in the "Change Action Center settings" window in the "Control Panel", the "Microsoft Account", "Windows Activate", "Windows Backup" and "Apps launcher" alerts
can not be disable even with a local account of Administrators type. How come? What is the meaning of these alerts? How do I disable them?
    Thanks
    Bye

    Hi,
Please know that these options inform you of any issues with them if you have gotten them setup. If you haven't set up them, the option appeared to be grey.
Once they are grey, no such alerts will display about them.

  • Still No Preferences Window in 1.1

Ok, so I had and read about the problem with the 1.01 update, the preference window won't open, wether you choose it from the menu or shortcut. So I went back to version 1.0. When I heard about 1.1 I eagerly awaited hoping this would be resolved. After the 1.1 update I still can't open my preferences window. And when I quit Aperture, the application quits, but I get that window that says "The application Aperture has quit unexpectedly". Does anyone know whats up with the updates and the preferences window? I'm real close to swithing back to iPhoto.

    Hi,
Have you tried doing a clean install? Here are some things to try:
    Cleaning Aperture off system:
Here are the things to delete manually:
    1. Main Hard Drive>Library>Application Support>ProApps>Aperture System ID - (this will delete your serial number).
    2. User's drive (Home)>Pictures>Aperture Library - (NOTE: Only delete if you want to start with a clean Library. You can always rename it or copy somewhere to launch a new library)
    3. User's drive (Home)>Library>Application Support>Aperture - (Delete entire folder. This will get rid of your presets and keywords)
    4. User's drive (Home)>Library>Caches>Aperture - (Delete entire folder)
    5. User's drive (Home)>Library>Preferences>com.apple.Aperture.plist - (This is your general Preferences. I'd try this one first)

  • Speedgrade won't launch  - Splash Window then nothing!

    Hello,
I have had an issue with Adobe Speedgrade CC 2014 not launching either stand-alone (just launching the app) or by using the Direct Link from Premiere Pro.
The Splash screen appears, then vanishes without showing the software. Basically, it looks like this after attempting to launch the app.
After that, the splash screen vanishes, and I'm left with this:
The Speedgrade app doesn't launch, and the Speedgrade Menu Bar item doesn't do much; it allows me to quit the app, or I can force quit from the dock.
This happened to me before, and I contacted Adobe Support. They logged into my machine, and did something with folders and the like, and it seemed to work for a few days, but they did not tell me WHAT they had done. My attempts just now to recreate those steps have been in failure.
Here is what I have attempted:
Opt-Shift click to launch Speedgrade, to skip Preferences.
    Trash Preferences.
    Uninstall-Reinstall Speedgrade.
Run the adobe CC Cleaner app.
    Restart my computer.
The computer I am using is a MacPro tower, late 2012.
    3.2 Ghz Quadcore Intel Xeon
    20 GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5700 1024 MB Graphics
OS is currently on 10.10.1, and Speedgrade is fully up-to-date, as is the OS, I believe.
I'm unsure of how to proceed, but would love to find a permanent solution. This is the only software in the Creative Cloud that is 'acting up' on me, and it was becoming one I had hoped to use more frequently....sadly I won't be able to do so if it fails to launch like this again. I would like to be do this myself without needing adobe support to log into my machine, as I don't recall what they did exactly, since they merely left me with a 'okay, it should work now.'
    Thanks for your time!
    Jonathan Williams

Yes, there have been others with similar issues. Perhaps a bit more to the Mac side of the Grand Divide, but some in PC World also. There have not been a *lot* of users with this, but some ... and for whomever this hits, it's not a minor issue, is it?
As to other software ... yes, there have been instances of PrPro & Ae having the same problem. There's a lot fewer installations of Sg (as far as I know) than either PrPro or Ae, so I've no clue as to percentage of this per program in a relative sense.
As I've noted in another thread, in a few cases the "solution" was based in Mac OS ... someone finally re-formatted their machine, re-installed their OS, then all the flipping programs on the rig ... and when firing up their Adobe DVA's, the offending program worked as per expectations after having been through every flipping thing anyone here or Adobe staff could think of without success. As I'm thinking about it, I do recall one PC user reporting a similar thing ... completely re-formatted and then things just worked. On the Mac side, there've been a couple dot-releases of the OS that have been notable for having problems here, and by reverting to the previous OS release they got back in operation. I don't know which particular numbers those are.
Re-formatting and/or reverting is a time-consuming and frustrating/painful process for most of us. I don't recommend doing so. I'm just noting that for a few, it's been an OS issue, something they couldn't find but clearly with re-installing their OS, stopped being an issue. And a few people have then tried it ... and ... just had all the pain & none of the success.
At this point, I'm gonna reference Dennis Weinmann and Fran Roig who are both engineers on the Sg team and work these forums when not buried with little things like say, reworking the program itself, as they have the tech knowledge of all the under-the-hood things that might be of useful assistance. I can speculate ... they could probably help. Or Kevin-Monahan who's more known for being on the PrPro boards but does help here some also ...

  • How did I get duplicate (as in 2) System Preferences windows?

    Greetings ACS Fellows,
As a loyal and faithful Mac user who has used Macs for many a year, how can it be possible that I have right now - upon the iMac desktop of yours truly - running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 albeit in 64-bit mode; two, count em', two System Preferences windows? I've stumbled upon many strange things in my time, but this one has me absolutely befuddled
    Thanks in Advance,
    mm~

I was able to do this on my 10.5 system, but not on my Mavericks system, so there are changes somewhere along the way.
Launch System Preferences (that is 1 copy).
From an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session enter the command:
    /Applications/System\ Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System\ Preferences
and you will have a 2nd copy.
What a 3rd?  Just issue the Terminal command again.
How you managed to do it, I do not know, but the System Preferences app will allow multiple instances of the app to run concurrently.
Again, by the time Mavericks was released, something was changed, and only 1 copy can be run.  The above trick will not work on Mavericks.

  • Unable to install SQL Server 2014 Express LocalDb on Windows 8.1 Update 1

Apologies if this is not the right place or this has been posted before (I looked and didn't find anything)
I am unable to install SQL Server 2014 Express LocalDb on Windows 8.1 Update 1, as I get an 'Operating System not Supported' error message right away.
What can I do to get this working?

    Hi Zgreve,
    Usually, from
hardware and software requirements for installing SQL Server 2014, we can install SQL Server Express version on the Windows 8.1. For more information, see:
    Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express.
Before you install SQL Server 2014 Express version, you should ensure installing the .NET Framework 4, then run as administrator for the SQL Server setup.exe again.
There is a similar detail about install SQL Server Express LocalDB via GUI and command line. You can also review the following steps.
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2694/getting-started-with-sql-server-2012-express-localdb/
If the same error about OS still exists,  I recommend you submitting a feedback to Microsoft such issues at

If you uninstall it the Lenovo software just keep reinstalling it. If you uninstall the Lenovo PM driver but do not reboot you can then open Power Manager. The minute you reboot the Lenovo software reinstallls the driver.
Why would Lenovo install software on a brand new Windows 8 laptop that is broken and useless? Tech support is absolutely no help they transfer you to the software department which wants to charge you to fix a problem that Lenovo created!!! It is crazy!! I was hoping someone here could solve this problem or maybe someone at Lenovo would see this and get the problem resolved. Tech support has been useless. I reported the problem to them at least 5 times.

  • How do I fix that at startup, restart Mavericks 10.9.2 always opens the system preference window?

How do I fix that at startup, restart Mavericks 10.9.2 always opens the system preference window?
It is not listed in Login items. I tried all the usual fixes plus Diskwarrior rebuild.
                                                                                                                                    W.W.

I suggest deleting the Canon Network Scanner from Login Items to determine if that is the cause. Not knowing exactly what it does, I suspect it is intended to monitor the printer's supply levels all the time. It's not necessary to do that. You can always determine the printer's ink supply level every time you print something, when its Print dialog appears. You can also check its supply levels by opening System Preferences on your own, and selecting Printers & Scanners.
Bear in mind Login Items is simply a convenience that loads the programs you specify every time you log in. That feature is less important as it had been in the past since Mavericks will re-open everything that was open when you last logged out, if you select this checkbox:
If you want to add the Adobe programs to Login Items again, search for them using Spotlight. The Adobe programs themselves should not be causing this behavior.

Trial version of Illustrator CC 2014 takes over my CS6 old version and forces me to use CC 2014 on launch. How to fix? FIle> get info>won't let me choose >Open this file with CS6. Forces me to use CC 2014 Illustrator which I don't want because I am doing client work in CS6 that I own and I do not have time to try out the CC version.
I also do not like the black interface in illustrator as I cannot even see the layer icon at the bottom. I won't want to buy it if this is all that's offered.

You can change the UI brightness in the prefs. Otherwise I'm not clear what your issue is. Handling file associations are operating system basics and you can look them up on a simple web search and from drag&drop onto the launchpad/ dock icon for CS6 to opening the files directly from within AI there sure are enough alternatives, don't you think?
