PS crashes on "save as" for large PSD from AD2 drive
Hi,
in our test-setup we have AD2.1 connected to an Alfresco Community Edition 3.4d. Using the CS5 PS, the following steps are required to reproduce our problem:
open a large PSD file (1,2 GB in our case) from AD2 drive
open the File/"Save as" dialogue enter a new filename and press save.
Now, PS hangs indefinitely before opening the version dialogue and an interesting "cursor" shows up in the middle of the screen (see below; the grey spot in the middle of the screen).
For smaller PSD files, the 'save as' works as designed, the version dialogue opens and the file is saved and checked in.
Has anybody experienced similiar problems ?
Is there a way to come around this issue ?
Thanks ahead,
Martin.
Hi dimgy,
According to the steps described in posts, we can’t reproduce with AD 2.1, PS CS5 and Alfresco 3.4a on Mac 10.6.
The size of PSD test file is 2.09 GB in our test. We can check in /save as and promote successfully with the test file.
In the posts, there is no ‘check in ‘ confirm dialog to show after click ‘save’.
Because AD will NOT upload the file before click ‘check in ‘ confirm dialog.
So we suggest you to try to save as the file to local and check if the problem also exists.
Hopefully it can help you!
Thanks,
Jianfeng

I have over 200 hours of HD video on 5 different TB Thunderbolt GRaid hard drives. I need to reorganize my projects, moving large files from one drive to another. Advice?
Do some testing to get your method working right with some less than important footage.
Copy/paste files where you want then.
Use the FCE Reconnect feature to tell FCE where the newly copied files reside.
Make sure the new location and files are working as expected with your Projects.
Delete the original files if no longer required.

MacBook Pro crashes on FCP X while seeking files from External Drive
I use FCP X and my MacB Pro crashes trying to load from my Passport w/ 5400rpm. How about firewire or the 7200 rpm. HD on Mac is not large enough and I need 2 to 3 Tb external for large video files.
What are my alternatives?
Also is my MacBook 3.0 USB compatible. How do I tell. I searched the specs with no answer there. If your MBP has had a kernel panic. log and post it for review.

Save As for WebI docs from JRP takes two minutes in BO 3.1.6
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try to speed up the saving of reports into Favorites?
I searched and didn't see anyone else with my problem.
When I Save a report for the first time or Save As from the Java Report panel, it takes a really long time to display the report names on the right side of the Save Document box. I have an hourglass while I wait for the report names to display. It's only a problem when I'm using JRP as my WebI doc editing tool. The list of reports comes up right away in Interactive.

Help! Blank file after opening .psd from network drive
I'm a technician at a school district and in one of the classrooms we have Photoshop CS5.1 installed on a Windows 7 SP1 machine. Students have their own network drive folder for them to save files.
They are currently working with work paths and have multiple layers when they save their PS project. When they go to open it back up, they get a blank white layer that looks locked. We go to the paths part and it actually shows what they were working on. How do they get it to open up where the layers are still there? The layers checkbox was checked when they saved and it was saved as .psd file.
Any help would be appreciated. They have saved locally on the machine and I'm going to find out soon enough if it saved correctly for them.It is discouraged by Adobe to open/save directly via a network. I don't know the fact that you're saving directly across the network is involved in what's gone wrong here, but can you have the students save their work to the local drive, then copy the file to the network drive?
Out of curiosity, are they using a mapped drive letter, or a UNC path?
There was a VERY similar thread to yours a few weeks ago... http://forums.adobe.com/message/3955688

Error message -36 when copying large files from Firewire drive
I have kept several large audio files as backup on an external LaCie Firewire drive. When trying to copying them back, almost all of them starts to copy, then stops and (after a minute or so) report error message -36.
I have run both Apple's Disktools and the latest Diskwarrior, but no errors are reported. I gues the audio files must have become corrupted... What do you suggest that I do? The contain valuable audio information that I really don't want to get lost.

Problem for deleting photos from hard drive within Iphoto 8
Hi there,
I am a new switcher, I bought a Macbook Pro last month...
I tried to manage my photo library with Iphoto but I cannot succeed in deleting pictures within Iphoto interface.
I've red some similar posts on this forum but nothing helped me.
When I put pictures in trash then empty Iphoto trash, my pictures are still on the hard drive and it is really annoying...
I unchecked the box in preferences to copy pictures in IPhoto Library, of course.
I tried to delete my Iphoto library and rebuild it.
It doesn't work !!
For information, my pictures are in a shared directory (shared between the two users of my Macbook) and all permissions ok !
Thanks for help.I unchecked the box in preferences to copy pictures in IPhoto Library, of course.
Of course you did. And that explains why the photos are not removed from the HD.
When you uncheck this box you’re saying to iPhoto: ‘Don’t touch my photos, I want to manage them myself’. So, that means you need to get them from your camera to where ever you store them yourself. It also means that in the event of deleting them, you’ll need to do that too.
There are a number of potential pitfalls using this Referenced system.
1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Your choice, obviously, but best to be aware of all the ramifications. By all means post back if you require more info.
my pictures are in a shared directory (shared between the two users of my Macbook) and all permissions ok !
This, of course, means that edits made by one user are not visible to the toehr. There are other ways to share if you’re interested.

No voice for imported videos from hard drive.
i don't really know what has gone wrong,Coz I'm new to macs.I have recently bought a macbook Pro. And it comes with iLife 6. i have transferred some of my videos that i have recorded with my digital camera long time ago. I have stored those videos in my PC's hard drive, and now i transfer it from my pc to my new mac by burning them into a DVD as a data DVD using Nero burning software. Then i copy it from the DVD to my mac's hard drive. And then i start to import some videos from my mac's hard drive to iMovie HD. And i start to notice that the videos that i imported have no voice. And i still work on it anyway. When I have finally burned it to the DVD using iDVD. I have found out there is completely no voice for the imported videos when i play it. Please somebody help me out of this. I really like iMovie and i have spent days on it for this matter.
࿇The videos are recorded with a Sony DSC P41(It's just a digital camera but can record videos too)
࿇And the video format should be MPEG-4

0x34da000 - 0x34fefThanks for the reply. I tried each solution on the fonts troubleshooting page you sent.
It seemed to correct the problem temporarily.
But I still get crashes when I try to open and save.
Seems photoshop only crashes when I open a file in column view and it tries to "preview" the file I want to open, if that makes sense.
I might add, these are fairly large files, 3+GB each.
I guess I could just take it off column view.
Thanks. -
Large PSD file overwritten with a PDF file
Hi everyone,
I've been searching google for this for a while but I can't find an answer.
Ok, so I'm working with a large PSD (100+ layers, over 170MB). I wan't to preview it as a PDF. I click Save As ... and I make a new file on the desktop. I minimize Photoshop, go to desktop and open the PDF. Ok everything's ok. I go back to photoshop (just maximize it). I work work work .... Ctrl+S every once in a while ... and I suddenly realize that the file I'm working on has changed its name from project2.psd to project2.pdf (I see this in the top bar of the window). I minimize photoshop, go to the folder where my psd file is stored and I check it for weight -> it's now 24MB instead of 170MB. Ok, now I'm stressed and I go crazy. Istead of going back in history I decide to Overwrite my original project2 (which is now a pdf as the windows explorere shows ... [oh yeah, and the pdf I've created on the desktop is still there as a totally separate file]) with the project I have currently opened in photoshop (I still have layers in the layers pallete and everything, it's just the photoshop shows the name of the file in the top bar "project2.pdf"). I do that. Now I close all the projects opened in photoshop (I guess that's the moment I really screwed up) - though I don't close the program itself if that matters at all - and I reopen my project2.psd.
Yes, it opens as a PSD ..... but it's flatten. No layers.
God I'm so angry with myself now.
I have no idea why after creating a new pdf file on the desktop the whole project I was still working with turned into a PDF file.
Is there any home-made cheap solution to this? I wan't to get my 170MB 100+ layers file
Does Vista store some temp files anywhere? I suppose it won't be there.
Sorry for being so emotional about all this but I'm really screwed if I don't get my original file back.
PS. I've found a file called Photoshop Temp631890 in the Temp directory. Can't open it with PS. Is there anything I can do with it?
Thank you in advance,
AurorMuch thanks Ronald .... yes Robert you too.
Sorry to answer this topic with such a delay. I've been busy finishing this project. Not re-doing the whole thing thank God!
Ok so I know that if I overwrite a file it's lost.
I didn't loose everything 'couse I was able to recover an earlier copy that was erased. Some data-recovery software found it on my drive and was able to recover it. Moreover while I was recovering it I remembered that I've left a copy of my PSD file on my clients FTP server 2 days earlier. I did loose a couple of hours of work but all wasn't lost.
I could swear to god I saved my PSD "AS A" PDF and somehow both files turned into PDFs. Well ... s**t happens right?
gonna be more carefull next time.
Thakns for everything.

Illustrator CS4 Crash on Save help!
I have Illustrator CS4 on both Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64 platforms. Whenever I attempt to save work via save, save as, or save for web and devices, the program stalls and crashes. I have not found a working solution, the Printer Spooler is not the problem, so what is causing this problem? I have reinstalled the program and even OS to try and fix this. It works the first few times I use it then starts to save crash. If someone has a solution please help as I need the program to do my work!
This solution solved my crash problem today!!!!
Couldnt for the life of me work out why my file kept crashing, on save, selecting anything even just moving around the screen it would crash.
Tried all of the solutions on the Adobe forum, nothing worked, until....
Relinked the one JPG file i had linked in my file to a PSD instead and it has'nt crashed once. The offending jpg had a clipping mask applied to it.
Not ideal (to have to not link JPGs) but least its stable now.
Thanks so much for the tip comicstar, I lost about 6 hours trying to get my file finished, sorted in 5 minutes after it stopped crashing.
Cheers,
Dooda -
We have recently installed a new editorial system (Newspaper) and started using InDesign 5.5 (7.5.2.318) extensively. However the editors keep having crashes happen to them when they save or export a document.
The error message I'm seeing in event log is similar to the one below:
Faulting application indesign.exe, version 7.5.2.318, faulting module text.rpln, version 7.5.0.142, fault address 0x000c9b44.
I am by no means a InDesign expert so I'm kind of grasping at straws. I think part of the issue is that the files being put into their document are to large (anywhere from 75megs down to 15 megs in size; multiple files being put onto a page), but am not sure.
Does InDesign create an event log entry every time it crashes (if it does then there's some exageration going on!)?
I've looked high and low for some information on tuning InDesign for better performance, but haven't found anything.
Are there some generic things I should check?
By the way we are on Windows XP 32bit, 4 gigs of ram, Quad Core
Thanks in advance for your time,When you have third party plugins and crashes, the first suspects are generally the plugins. Do you also use a font manager?
Please see Guide to Interpreting InDesign Crash Reports | InDesignSecrets for directions on finding the crash log you need and how to interpret it (or you can post the log on Pastebin.com and put a link to it here, and John will eventually try to read it for you). -
Crash on Save, Illustrator CS4
Every time I save an Illustrator file (CS4), it crashes; no matter how slight the modification. If I Save As..., it works fine. Happens with numerous files. Am using MacOSX 10.5.5 on a MacBookPro w/ 2Gb RAM. All other programs working fine (including InDesign and Acrobat). Have sent multiple crash reports. Anyone else suffering from the same malady? Suggestions?

FrameMaker 11 trial version crashing on save and cross-reference insertion
Hi everyone,
I've recently started a new position. My prior background was heavily DITA, and I'd describe my FrameMaker experience as late beginner or early intermediate. The new position uses FM exclusively though, so I've been on a steep learning curve lately.
I'm using the trial version of FrameMaker 11, downloaded about two weeks ago, until the PO for my full FM 11 license is processed. I'm working in book and document files that have been upgraded, I believe, from FM 9 to FM 10 and then from FM 10 to FM 11. All of my colleagues are still using FM 10, with a mind to upgrade to FM 11 in the spring as our new budget comes through (I am, so to speak, the FM 11 guinea pig for the group).
My workstation is a brand new HP Elitebook laptop running Windows 7 64-bit (I believe our IT department downgraded it from Windows 8). Windows is fully up-to-date. My trial version of FM 11 is 11.0.1.382 and also up-to-date as of this message.
My issue: FM 11 randomly crashes several times a week, sometimes once a day or so, sometimes when I try any of the following:
Saving all files in a book (using Shift + the File menu command)
Saving individual document files (generally using the Save icon in the tool bar)
Attempting to insert a cross-reference (placing the insertion point within the document, then opening the Cross-Reference tool in the right-hand side bar)
The crash takes the appearance of FM freezing for several seconds, then the dreaded message window opening with the words "FrameMaker has detected a serious error and must quit", with columns of error codes below.
I've googled and binged and not found anything for this issue in FM 11, so I thought I'd post here. I have tried the following, based on somewhat similar discussions I've seen for crashes in earlier versions of FM)
Mif-washing the files
Working in the Structured FrameMaker interface instead of the Unstructured
Neither of these has worked. FM 11 trial continues to crash. It doesn't happen often; I'd say that I'm able to successfully able to perform the above tasks 20 times or so, with the crash on the 21st. But on a busy day, that's a few crashes a day.
To mitigate damage, I have autosave set to every two minutes and gotten in the habit of only having one or two documents open, instead of all in a book, to minimize the number of recovery files I need to process.
After one of the initial crashes, I did as Adobe asked and forwarded the crash report to them for troubleshooting.
My colleagues are watching all this very closely, and my troubles might influence our decision to upgrade from FM 10 to FM 11. So any insight into this issue would be appreciated!
Cheers,
EricEric,
The multitude of unesolved x-refs may due to the font issues when updating the book. During an update, if the files aren't open, FM tries to open them in the background but if it encounters an error like a missing font, it skips the file and then any x-refs to that file are unresolved. This can cascade to make things look really worse than they are.
What is your default printer when you start FM? It should be the Adobe PDF prnter instance. If not, then you might want to insatll the Sundorne SetPrint utility (http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm) thta will automatically set this for your FM sessions only.
One other place where fonts can hide is in table definitions. The catalog stores the font information (and not just the explicit paratag) of the cells in the header and first row. As Jeff mentions, you need to check the MIF file in detail. An excellent tool for quickly browsing your MIF is Graham Wideman's Mifbrowse (http://www.wideman-one.com/gw/tech/framemaker/mifbrowse.htm).
