PS CS3 Color Correction plugin

Hi,
I've been doing a lot of color correction/adjustment lately in Photoshop CS3, Premiere Pro CS3 and After Effects CS3.
In Premiere Pro CS3 and After Effects CS3 I work with a plugin from Synthetic Aperture called 'Color Finesse' which is just so amazing to work with.
Unfortunately they don't offer that plugin for Photoshop.
I am looking for a Photoshop plugin that can provide the same depth and ease of use.
There are two things that I like especially in Color Finesse:
1. that u see the graph of each color channel (Master/Red/Green/Blue) aligned UNDER each other ALL the time
2. specific color channel correction/adjustment via RGB, CMY & YCbCr. Especially YCbCr is so powerful.
Is there a plugin for Photoshop that provides the same options ?
I worked with PS Curves, Curvemeister 3 & Power Retouche Pro but they don't provide the powerful controls and ease of use.
Thanx for your help in advance !
Mike

I've not used it, but Magic Bullet Colorista is one option.

  • Color Correction plugin for Premiere Pro CS3....

    Hi,
I'm looking for a plugin for color correction in Premier Pro CS3.
I checked out the Color Correction tools that ship with Premiere (which are nice) and I checked out Synthetic Aperture's Color Finesse 2 (which is great as well).
Are there any other recommendations ? ;)
Thanx for your help in advance !

  • Color corrections Premier CS3 !

    Dear friends !!
Last night i was browsing through this forums and few other pages on the net and found a place ,like a tutorial about CS3 color corrections
I very much believe that was somewhere in this forums , where it shows step by step how to do color correction, I remember there was a picture of some kind of wooden cabin with a picture of drop and it was showing the graphs as well .
    Any idea ? please
    very much preciated .

I do not have the tutorial in question, but I can at least get you started with the effects you probably will be using.  The two main CC's I will use are either the Fast Color Correction or the Three Way Color Correction filters.  You can also get something out of this tutorial.

  • Color grading plugin for FCP?

I experience more and more problems with the Send to Shake function as time goes (FCP updates, Shake does not). Is there a good quality color correct plugin for FCP? More advanced than the standard 3-way color corrector..

Just exactly what is it you're wanting to accomplish? FCP has an amazing variety of color tools contained within it's tool set, although not nearly as surgical as Shake.
Colorista II ain't worth the money to me as it's really no different than the 3Way with the exception that you can make power windows without layering. Boris also has some sort of new 3Way corrector that if I were to buy a plug, I'd most likely get over Colorista II.

  • Color correction in CS3

Sorry for my newbness on this but I'm trying to make sure I'm not duplicating or undoing my work from one tool in another.  I recently finished going through Scott Kelby's CS3 for Digital Photographers book and I'm a bit confused on some aspects of color correction.  He starts out having you set WB, exposure, contrast settings, etc. in ACR.  Then when you move it to PS he has you use the curves panel to color correct.  Of course that entails using the black eye dropper and clicking on the blackest/darkest area of the photo, similar for the white dropper, and after a nice little trick to find the right spot......... an area for the midtone dropper.
The thing is I've noticed that once I make that first click with the black dropper, that nice contrast I had from ACR adjustments goes out the window and the photo brightens up a lot.  The final steps of putting 3 points on the curve and dropping the blacks end and raising the whites end brings it back a bit but I was thinking isn't setting the WB with the dropper in ACR already color correcting?  Even at the end of the book when he goes through his actual workflow using a provided .dng example he does all the ACR stuff and then moves to PS and uses the curves panel.

    Noel,
I understand and respect your opinion about how you edit your images. To each his own.
But the original poster said: Sorry for my newbness. . .
So he's rather unfamiliar with Photoshop. Isn't it better to let new users learn a safer way to edit with the ability to return to their original image when they inadvertently make a hash of things? For the original poster and all the other inexperienced users that come to these forums, I like to let them know that there's the equivalent of a seat belt and an air bag that can save them a lot of grief.
I deal with files from graphic artists that have used Photoshop for years and have never even hear of an adjustment layer, a layer comp or a Smart Object.
They have files with 40 layers. 30 of which they have turned off since they have to make so many permanent uneditable filter adjustments with every slight variation of filter setting, just in case they might need a certain layer from 3 months ago when they tweaked one object in the file.  So many of their issues could have been solved with simple adjustment layers.
I want people to understand the versatility of Photoshop and not just learn the same half dozen procedures and stop at that.
You are absolutely correct that for some uses an adjustment layer isn't necessary, But the OP said that he had forgotten the part he had read about adjustment layers and how he definitely wants to start using them. After my post he remembered that there was another new thing about Photoshop that he wanted to learn. Hurrah!
Perhaps in the future the OP will return to the forums to help out newbies like he once was himself.

  • Color correction in IM6 or plugin advice?

    Hello All,
I have several hours of video from 8mm films that I have filmed with my DV camcorder. The quality is pretty good, but I would like to run it through some kind of color correction or optimization.
    1. Has anyone done this in IM6? Is it possible?
    2. Has anyone used any plugins for this sort of thing?
    3. Does anyone know of any third-party software I could run my video through and then save as .mov for import into IM6?
    Thanks for sharing your expierence!
    Adam

iMovie has hue and white balance adjustment although they are a bit tedious to work with. Even with plug-in from GeeThree it will take a while and I am not sure if they work with V6 yet. Slick 3 has the color correction you are looking for
But if you have a lot of footage and want to do a good job there is little better than the 3-Way color in Final Cut other than having someone with PRO equipment do the conversion and correct the colors on the transfer.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 then After Effects CS3 for Color Correction?

    Hello All,
I'm at a bit of a loss here, it seems like it's a no brainer to be able to do this. I'm trying to edit my film in Premiere and then use After Effects to do color correction using Color Finesse 2. But there doesn't seem to be ANY way to keep a project so you can continue to edit in premiere while you also keep all your color correction??
You can do color correction in AE and export a premiere project but premiere won't recognize the Color Finesse Filter so you lose all you color correction!
Or I can edit the whole project in premiere and open it in after effects to do color correction, but then if there is a single edit change that needs to be done in premiere again i've once again lost my Color Correction to bring it back.
Is this really the case that I can't use these expensive packages together this way? It seems like there has to be a solution! If Adobe just made it so Premiere kept the "links" to your filters in the project, instead of killing an unrecognizable one. Then when you opened it back in after effects after your edit your Color Correction would still be there.
    Any one have any advice?
    Thanks,
    -Ethan

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, all good ideas.
Aanarav, Your idea to just get Color Finesse for premiere I suppose I could do. It's $545 which isn't exactly pocket change, but it would probably be worth it, if there is another way other than breaking the bank book for software I already own i'd like to try to get away with it.
    Steven Gotz
Dynamic link is unfortunately a feature only of the production studio package which is like $1100 upgrade from what I have...so that's kinda out of the question for me.
    Jon Sands
Great idea here. I really thought it might work since premiere seems to use what are called after effects plugin files too. But after copying and pasting for a while it doesn't look like it actually sees it as a plugin anywhere I paste it. :( If anyone knows of a way to get that to work I would be seriously grateful!
I guess it sounds like the only way out is to spend cash, sigh such is so often the case is seems.

  • Fickering color correction on CS3

    Hi:
When I do some color correction on a video clip for the first few seconds the color correction flickers.
Even on a the final rendered video.
Anyone know why or how to prevernt it?

You are correct that MPEG-2 is not the best source material, but sometimes one has to use what is handed to them.
I like the Fast Color Corrector for most color work. Often, the Color Balance (quite limited), will be good enough, though not that often - depends on the scene. The Three-Way Color Corrector is even better, but does require a bit more work with the settings.
I'd give Fast Color Corrector a run. Do not hesitate to experiment with it, observing what it's providing you with. I find it very useful.
    Hunt
PS - I find the Auto (anything) to be pretty useless. About the same with the Auto Adjustments in Photoshop.
PPS - I normally do any Levels (not Auto Levels), and maybe Shadow & Highlight Effects BEFORE I use Fast Color Corrector. I'll then go back and tweak Levels and maybe S & H.

  • Fixing Footage Shot with wrong filter on Sony F900, color correction, underexposed film

    Hello everyone...
I am new to the forums but have been with Adobe since CS3.  I love Premier Pro and have fully abandones FCP 2-3 years ago for the first CS5.  I was out shooting a SONY F900, which i am not used to (as I work primarily with small format and dslr workflows) and I made the TOTAL ROOKIE MISTAKE of shooting on the 1A rollable filter setting... rather than the 1B which is for indoor tungsten.   I didn't have a monitor with me or available, so through the BW view finder... i had no idea it was wrong.  The result is that I lost a stop and a half in an already lowlight setting... and the minus blue filter of the 1A (or daylight / 56K) setting removed color depth and turned every thing kind of washed out orange.
I am confident that i can bring it back to acceptable through color correction and i have been training on Speed grade tutorials like crazy.  I am proficient in Premier and After Effects workflows but have never dealt directly with this.
Any help of steps to take in general would be appreciated and I thank you in advance for your help.
    Cheers!
    Dustin

Yeah... I feel like a tool for it.  I have been shooting for a decade and a started on full broadcast shoulder mounts.  I just have drifted sooo farrr over the past five years that I forgot about it.  No excuse on my end.  I have "colorista" for after effects.  Part of the red giant suite right?  Or am i mistaken?...  Would you share the best simple approach to the settings for that plugin.  Thanks in advance,

  • Secondary color correction not working in Premiere CC

    Greetings,
I'm unable to build secondary color correction masks in Three Way Color Corrector, RGB Curves etc in the current version of Premiere CC.
In any of these plugins, when I check "show mask" I get the usual white slate filling the frame. But when I use the color picker to make a selection the whole frame stays white. It appears that I'm making selections but it's not building the mask for some reason. When making an extreme color change I can see that the mask is not building as it affects the whole frame.
This started after upgrading to CC. I've recently updated to the most up to date version (yesterday) and am still having the same problem.
    Premiere CC 2014.1 Release
    8.1.0 (81) Build
Macbook Pro Retina, 15" Late 2013
    2Gh Intel Core i7
    8Gb
    Intel Iris Pro 1536Mb
    Yosemite Version 10.10
*note-my Colleague is not having this problem, he's working on the same OS and same CC build but he has an Imac. So I'm guessing this problem is unique to my hardware config.
Anybody else have this problem or know of a fix?

I have the same Problem new MAC OS Premier Pro CC or Premier Pro CS6 both have an issue with the Title Tool. If you open the title tool and try to make color changes or change size of the font it sticks at the default color and default font. SOmetimes the title tool will work and then when I exit it's back to the default first type location, default font and default color. Sometimes it will not even let me exit the Title Tool.
Please help I have Projects I'm working on Deadlines and I pay a monthly Fee for Software that works and it's not working.

  • Color correction

there was a thread on cs5 about this that interested me, so I started new thing here cause Im using cs3..
Shooternz, your help in the cs5 thread was great...and this is what I did....in my particular circumstances...
( I have to say that this is really the first time I'm sorta getting serious about CC and using the scopes etc...to try to learn this better )
I know the basics and the monitor stuff and the way people shoot properly exposed grayscale, color etc on set for calibration ( using film mostly in my experience, but done with digital too as I've seen )...
Sooo, here's the thing... I shot this clip as a test to see how long the music had to be to get a mssg across later on ( an insert shot that I will shoot on the day in the right location etc )... so this was a timing test sorta....didnt care about the lighting.
However, since I shot it I've tried to make it as good as I can ( why not ? )
I had a flourescent unit ( drop down ceiling 32K flourescents ) above...but it read about 36k on color meter and needed color correction at that ( LB and CC correction ..know what I mean ? )...so OK...who cares, its a test and timing only sooooo I dont put gels on the light and just shoot.
Soooo, I DID IN FACT put a grayscale down to fix it later if possible....even though it wasn't lit right....
This is what it looks like basically...
pretty terrible...very yellow and compressed tones etc...not good...
Soo, following your suggestions in thread in cs5, using waveform and vectorgraph, I come up with this instead..
    WAYY BETTER !  ( thank you ! )....but...not perfect...thats OK, I didnt light it right...but better ....
Now, though, when I paste attributes of this to the clip in question I end up with this pixelation or "splotchy " stuff..as shown here
Now, my experience using psd tells me that if you try to correct too much, there's a sorta " limit" to what you can do, and things start just plain getting screwed up..."splotchy" like this...  but if I had some way to just pick on the "yellow" gamma or something maybe I could get rid of it ....OR do a color replacement ( change ??? )... like pick out that particular color and change it to something closer to the white???  Have you ever dealt with this type thing ???  I know I started out all wrong to begin with but am wondering what you think ??
    Thanks !
    Rod
ps...this was a dumb test so please dont , you know, put much into this...I know I shot it all screwed up to begin with..

    Hey Rod
Your CC looks fine and if the intention was to correct the col temp and exposure issue..you did fine.  I see you have a full scale of tones in the greys.
Obviously you should start off with a correct  exposure  and that doesn ot necessarily mean a "technically correct" exposure.
You do not have to shoot and CC / grade to display the full range from Balck to white.
Its important to rember that the CC and grade (and the composition) are part of "the story"  At times you will want crushed blacks and other times you may want a high key look or compressed tones in the mid.  Then afetr the "tones" you think about what color tells the story.
    Always..... Levels before Color correction!
BTW - the eye rules but ensure technically that the scopes confirm what you think you see.
Heres someof my images reflecting different CC for a "fit with the story"
Flat , clean, compressed mid tones, clinical ( a green screen BTW)
Dark , compressed toward blacks with detail in mids, juicy highlightsdramatic ( slo mo)
Full tonal range,hi color, "summer on xmas day"
full range color and tone, texture "yummy"
Clean and clinical mid ranges with slight color de-saturation of BG
FG grade to match bg (key) and fit time of day look.
Keep in mind...the above shots started in the photography and the cc / grade is enhancement.
    Good luck mate.

  • Color Correcting In CC - Making Whites Actually White

Okay so my main question is,
Are there any functions or plugins where I can look at the clip, and then click on a spot that I know should be white (But its not because the camera wasn't white balanced 100%), and have After effects automatically adjust so it is white.
Kind of like how you set white balance on a camera, where you hold up a white card or other completely white object, click the white balance, and the camera automatically adjust to make it white.
Except I want to be able to just click on a point in the footage and have it adjust everything.
If this is not an option, then are there any good tips for white balancing the footage?
IE: I film a subject against a white wall, the camera wasn't white balanced so the background appears to be light beige. I want to click the background in AE and have it color correct and make it white.
    Thanks

Finding perfect white is always a challenge and it may foul up other things in your shot because white walls are reflective and if someone is wearing a blue shirt against a white wall, white may not be white. Setting white may get you in the ball park, but it is usually only the first step in color grading. You usually want to push highlights to one hue and shadows to another.
The procedure and the tools used to color grade a shot depend entirely on the shot. For most of my work Colorists II is my preferred tool. Some shots require more than one instance of colorist to get to where I want to go. Color finesse is also good, but for some work, and this depends entirely on the shot,  Auto Color is all that I need. No matter what technique you use to grade your shots you need some kind of scope or histogram that you understand so you can know where you are pushing the levels in the shot. I'm always checking areas of a shot with the Info Panel to make sure I know what I've done to the color values. Most of all, good color grading takes time to learn and a very thorough knowledge of color.

  • Black Magic Flat - Color Correction for FCP7

Does anyone have any recommendations of FREE color correct plug-ins for Final Cut 7 to apply to footage shot specifically on the Black Magic Cinema Camera. We shot it RAW in ProRes and my editor is cutting on the FCP7.
I just want an easy fix before sending a rough cut to the client.
We will later hand off the locked picture to a colorist for a proper color grading.
(I use FCPX myself, and have a free plugin for BMCC Flat on that system. Just not sure if something similar & generous exist for FCP7 users)
    Thanks,
    Marc

Probably the closest you'll come is the free DaVinci Resolve software Black Magic is offering, but that's not a simplistic solution. I understand that Resolve 9 has some support for RAW conversion that may work for your purposes.
    Good luck

  • Color correction for PrE 10 ?

Are there any plugins available for PrE 10 to do proper color correction ?
By default there is a 3-way color corrector but it is quite limited (no range definition for midtones, no secondaries). There is a "Color Fixer" in NewBlue Video Essentials but it appears to be mostly automatic. Basically what I am looking for is something similar to Colorista or Color Finesse that is compatible with PrE.

As Premiere is not a Color Managed Workspace, the calibrated computer monitor will not be 100% correct. To do advanced CC, I think that you will find Adobe After Effects (a Color Managed Workspace) to be more what you are looking for. PrPro adds many CC Effects, but is still not a Color Managed Workspace, so one needs to output to a calibrated broadcast monitor for critical CC work.
Also, as Video is likely displayed on myriad devices, from computer monitors to a plethora of TV sets (of various levels of calibration), one can only CC to broadcast standards, and then hope for the best with the viewer's equipment. PrE is designed for consumer output, where PrPro includes broadcast capabilities and After Effects is designed around broadcast. The difference between PrE and PrPro is similar to a comparison of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, in that Photoshop offers CMYK output for commercial printing, where PSElements does not.
Until fairly recently, PrE offered scant few Effects to manually CC footage. The addition of the Three-way CC Effect is a big bonus, but as you have found out, for broadcast work, it is lacking.
I do not know of any CC plug-ins, that will function better in PrE, but places to look would be the NewBlue FX portfolio, and the Red Giant portfolio. Also, make sure that when checking out host applications for their plug-ins, you see Premiere Elements, as most will work in Premiere Pro, but fewer in Premiere Elements, due to differences between those programs.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Color correction with third party options

I have been shopping and researching for a third party plugin for FCPX for color correction/grading.
Specifically, I have been looking at options like HyColor Pro and Hawaiki AutoGrade ... I asume, these options are utilizing the built in color controls found in FCP and offer a different UI context for manipulation.
Since I currently am not using such an option, If I use a third party option, and want to sync the look to other clips, is this possible with the "Match Color" feature.
