PS CS3 curves use of auto yields RGB neg image

Image goes from RGB to RGB neg withuse of auto on curves, levels, auto contrast etc. Example shown

You can set the defaults by going to Image> Adjust > Levels and clicking on "Options".
Mine look like this:

If that doesn't work, try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)

I am very familiar with FW but I do not like Photoshop,

Fireworks does not operate or export in CMYK color space. It
was
developed for screen images only, and operates and exports in
RGB color
space. It is not recommended that you use it in preparation
of images
for print. You mentioned that you don't like photoshop. You
might like
Illustrator better.

Well, I don't agree with your conclusions, but I won't battle you. So, what would you like to try?
Given your decided diagnosis, the only thing I can think of is the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

Can Photoshop CS3 be used with files from Lightroom 5?

I have Photoshop CS3 and I am considering buying Lightroom 5. Does anyone know if output from Lightroom 5 can be processed in Photoshop CS3?

The process engine in LR 5 is equivalent to ACR 8.1(Process version 2012) in PS CS 6 or PS CC.
So if you are using LR 5 you have the equivalent of the latest version of ACR, do all the processing of your raw files with Lightroom. When you are ready to make other advanced editing functions in PS CS3 you use the "edit in function" and a tiff or psd file is rendered by LR and sent to Photoshop.
The only disadvantage is that you cannot use the "edit in function" to make ACR in PS CS3 render the raw file with LIghtroom adjustments, since it is just not capable of reading the full adjustments from LR 5.
PS CS3 uses ACR 4.x (Process version 2003)
This is why you have to use LR to create the tiff/psd file for use in PS CS. In the final analysis when you have completed your work in PS CS you still are left with an additional file tiff/psd.

InDesign documents don't have a color space—you can have a mix of RGB, CMYK, Lab, and grayscale objects. However, if there's transparency anywhere on the page the document's Transparency Blend Space is used for the preview and flattening on export or output and that can be either RGB or CMYK

Mine USED to auto-fill

Mine USED to auto-fill a known name within a cell. i.e... If I already had entered a name, just starting the name again would show choices to auto-fill the cell. It does not do that anymore. Why?
Also another item... if I place a name in a cell followed by a number, i.e. John 27... when I "Fill Down" the column it continues the number sequence, i.e. John 28, John 29, John 30, etc, etc. How do I stop this action? I don't recall this ever happening before.

Here are two ways:
Use a formula to generate the multiple copies:
="John 27"
Fill down, Copy, then go Edit > Paste values.
Enter the value into the first cell.
Click the cell to select it. Copy.
Select all cells to receive that value. Paste.

HELP - Installing Photoshop CS3 Extended using Apple Remote Desktop

I have 12 MacPro's in a classroom. Is there a way to Install Photoshop CS3 Extended using Apple Remote Desktop (not on a server) to all the computers at once?

I don't have access to stand-alone PS CS3, only the Design Premium CS3 disc, but that includes Photoshop, so they're probably the same system. In any case, it does not use a standard Apple packaging scheme, instead using a custom mess of hollow folders, app packages, disk images, shared resources, and xml config files.
I briefly went ahead with the idea of doing an install, looking for what had been installed, and bundling up that virgin copy using Package Maker; but installing it elsewhere — with Installer, nevermind ARD — failed or left me with a 'crashy' copy of the apps. Maybe I just stink at making packages of other people's software, but my guess is that Adobe's installer throws files into nooks and crannies all over, or does a importantly-different install depending on your hardware/software config. In any case, I gave up and made an updated hard drive image including the new software. Deploying that worked fine.

Have you tried File>Scripts>SaveDocsAsPDF? There should be a folder of sample scripts installed in your AICS3 folder and a folder of documentation which contains an Illustrator AppleScript Reference which has examples.

I have just started using Fireworks and am unable to close a
figure made up of curves using pen tool and line segments using pen
/ line tools. How do I plot points on any given shape and close it
so that i can colour the shape . Right now I am not able to give
colour to the shapes I have created.

How to sweep IV curve using GPIB instrument (ILX 3220)

Hi, I'm new to Labview---I learned basic stuff, such as strings,arrays, structures,etc. I have an ILX-3220 current source, NI-488.2,and I want to make an IV curve using a light-emitting-diode. I'm really confused about what I should use. I downloaded intrument drivers from ILX's website.They provide some example VIs, but I can only set one current and read one voltage. I try to configure the block diagram by adding a for loop, then I got lost among the complicated SubVIs. I also tried to use I/O Instrument assistant to communicate with the current source, but apprarently it didn't listen to me . I can input the commands one by one (LAS:LDI 5 LAS:LDV? LAS:LDI 10 LAS:LDV?.....)----not much differently from writing down by hands. Is there a way to sweep IV curve using ILX 3220?

Yes, you will have to use a loop - either a for loop or while loop. I'm not familiar with the instrument or functions but at the minimum, you would need to place the function that sets the current and the function that reads the voltage inside the loop. The loop would probably have a shift register and you would wire this to the current set function. Inside the loop would be an increment function and some code to determine if the max current has been set. Below is a generic ramp application.
