PS CS3 to CS4 Standard Suite Upgrade

Hello!
I have PS CS3 now. If I upgrade to CS4 Standard, is my only option to pay the $799 upgrade price, even if local retailers sell it for $499? I guess what I'm asking is if I pay the cheaper price, will the software then not install, forcing me to pay the difference anyway?
Thanks in advance.

The upgrade to PS CS 3 to CS 4 Standard is he question Ramón.
So the answer is the upgrade price you see by retailers will not work for you unless you have the CS3 already which you do not have and therefore the answer is no you cannot use the the $499 upgrade. The only upgrade you can use is the $799 upgrade.
The retailers sell that upgrade as well.
BTW you can also get the 499 upgrade from Adobe if you had a previous version of the suites.

  • Upgrading Illustrator CS3 to CS4 Premium Suite Upgrade

    Hi Guys,
A company I maintain the Computer systems for has got Illustrator CS3 Volume Licensing Version as they bought 5 copies for their graphics design company.
And the went out and bought Adobe CS4 Design Premium Suite Upgrade Retail Version. They have just bought a new computer and went to install CS4 Design Premium Suite Upgrade without any other software installed and it comes up asking for the serial number of the Illustrator CS3 and they enter the key and it comes up invaild key.
Do I need to install Illustrator CS3 on the computer then upgrade to CS4 Design Premium Suite Upgrade.
    Thanks
    Matthew

AFAIK, you can't upgrade a volume license to a individual license.
You'll need to call Adobe to straighten this out.

  • CS4 Master Suite Upgrade = Photoshop STONEHENGE loading screen

This evening I purchased the upgrade to CS4 for my CS3 Master Suite. All applications installed without error however Photoshop loads with the beta Stonehenge loading screen. How is this possible? The version number is listed as: 11.0x20080826. At no time did I install beta software--the only existing install was CS3. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i what you need to tell them is pretty much what the original poster said.
Well, as we can see from Ryan's post they are not even aware of the issue. There should be a specific issue that this is called that all of Adobe support has been made aware of so we all do not have to go through 10 levels of support and spend hours on the phone. Please escalate this issue with the powers that are at Adobe and treat your customers with more respect.
Instead of taking the attitude that the customer is lucky that anyone from Adobe is paying attention to the user forums, a much better way to handle this situation would be for Adobe to initiate the contact with the customers who they know are affected. So far, the only people here with the issue are people who downloaded the master collection from the Adobe store. Adobe has e-mail addresses for all of these people. Why not be proactive and send them an e-mail instead of having everyone call up Adobe and ask "Am I supposed to have a Stonehenge Screen when I start photoshop CS4?" I didn't even know whether or not this was a real issue. And I am sure that there are many customers who have this problem but are unaware of it and won't come to this thread to find out.
Adobe management can either address this problem as if they have some respect for their customers or they can just wait for people to complain.

  • CS3 to CS4 P S upgrade printer/paper icc files not working - Help!

Have upgraded PS to CS4 AND upgraded Mac from PPC to Intel (10.5.6) on new MacPro. and using Epson 2400 printer. I rescued 3 important icc profiles and managed to load them onto new machine. When I go to print image the paper icc profile is visible and in the printer Menu my 3 presets are also visible. I allow PS to manage colors and disable color management. However the printed image is rubbish and it seems that the icc profile & preset have been ignored. I was able to print 1 image on my old PPC for it finally gave up on me - it was perfect.
I have got to produce approx 50 images by April 6th for my degree course - desperation is setting in!
Any advice out there as to where I should be looking for problem area.
    many thanks

Profiles have nothing to do with PPC or Intel.
For those that don't want to search. Here are 2.

And I am sure there is more.
The bottom line is that your printer driver needs to be properly updated for Leopard. And properly installed. Try reinstalling it.
Set it as the default printer. Check CUPS interface to make sure. http://127.0.0.1:631/printers
Must be registered in the ColorSync Utility. If not it is not properly installed.
If all this fails you can use the ColorSync Utility workaround. But it needs to be registered in the CU. None Leopard compliant driver should register in the CU when installed.
I have a Canon iPF9000 with a combination driver install that works properly in Leopard and a Epson 9600 that does not work properly in Leopard (I doubt there will ever be Leopard compatible drivers) but will print fine using the ColorSync Utility workaround.

  • Installing CS4 Production Suite -- CS3 Remains in Tact?

Probably a dumb question, but when I purchase my CS4 Production Suite upgrade, it's a completely new install, yes? CS3 applications are unaffected across the board I assume.
I'm excited to get CS4 on board, but I have a lot invested in AE CS3 as far as plug-ins go and am watching/waiting to see when my plugs will be CS4 compatible.
    Thanks for the thoughts.

One point of caution. There's a known issue where uninstalling CS3 after having both CS3 and CS4 co-installed will cause a problem with Adobe Media Encoder. It will crash with an error about source file not found. So if you must have both versions installed for a while, please remember to uninstall CS4 and reinstall it AFTER you remove CS3.

  • Can I Move CS3 Setups to CS4 When I Upgrade

I was wondering if it's possible to move brushes and other setups I've done in CS3 to CS4 once I upgrade. I've tried several ways of searching to see if this has been asked before but I didn't find anything.
    Regards,
    Dennis

So this is getting frustrating. I reply to the post but I don't see anything added. So let's try this for a third and final time before I throw in the towel.
Dave: I went into CS3 to unload my Actions and my Brushes but ran into some difficulties finding the method to do it. I did see in the Action palette where I could Save and Load but when I tried to Save I got an Invalid Filename message. I never did find the brush palette (I'm fairly new to PS and I'm still learning where everything is). I usualy hit "B" and use the tools bar for my brushes. How do you get to the Brush palette disply.
    Regards,
    Dennis
Again ... if you saw this message two other times I apologize for the redundancy.

  • Upgrade from CS3 Student Version to CS4 Standard failed!

    Problem:
Got a new MacBook Pro 10.9.5 and had to install all my CS software new.
(NOW: I can't open any of my old CS5.5 files, because only CS3 is working at the moment)
    I'm having:
CS5.5 master collection upgrade (not working. it says: need an CS4 upgrate!)
CS3 Design Standard Student Version (is working)
    I recently bought:
CS4 Standard upgrate (to get back to my own CS5.5 master collection upgrade)
But now CS4 Standard ask for my CS3 Design Student Version serial number and it is not working, but the serial number is correct!
I need to choose an Adobe CS3 product, but there is no CS3 Standard Student Version. If I choose CS3 Design Standard my serial number isn't working.
    Can anyone help me?

I didnt even know contribute went to 4.4 I thought 4.1 or 4.11 was the last version in the 4 series.

  • Upgrading CS3 to CS4 suite and keeping some CS3 apps

I have CS3 Design Premium and am upgrading to Elearning Suite. Can I keep Illustrator/InDesign CS3 which are not included in the Elearning Suite?

The CS4 installer doesn't touch anything in CS3 with the possible exception of Acrobat. So, to answer your question, yes, you can keep the old CS3 apps installed.

  • End of Upgrade Cycle for CS3 and CS4... Really Adobe?

As if business wasn't bad enough now I see there will be no upgrade paths past december for CS3 and 4 users. Is this how Adobe plans to keep users away from stopping their upgrades and reducing the number of machines they run Adobe products on? I understand Adobe is not a non-profit and has has to turn a revenue, but the geniuses at Marketing here have made a huge mistake by basically telling their customers that what they have so far will be worth zilch in comes 2013. That arbitrary deadline, is not consider some people who on the east coast are now cash strapped as anyone having to choose between home repairs and other such marvelous stuff and upgrading to CS6 guess what they'll choose. And for the lucky ones not heavily affected by the storms, they will donate to help their community before they will spend money to upgrade perfectly good software.
It wasn't enough that the upgrade path wasn't much of a discount, but in the current economy every penny counts! The choice of stopping support for CS3 and CS4 in my personal opinion an ill-advised move. I personally went from 3 to 4 within a short amount of time... then when 5 came out my budget didn't allow so I needed to wait. The new CS6 isn't direly needed so I decided I'd have to loose some additional "upgrade power" because money need to be directed elsewhere now... but the news that I'd loose all the upgrade power and would have kept on upgrading for nothing it's just ridiculous... and if that's the treatment a customer will have to expect from now on I think I'll use what I have and move to alternatives stopping to personally support Adobe products an rely on licensed copies at work instead. Perhaps Adobe hasn't notices we aren't exactly doing that great in US between the current economical situation, the various setbacks experienced across the country and for the fact that in this particular business most work is often being outsourced out of US these days... I am sure you will have a huge market on the countries where the outsourced work is being sent... as far as I am concerned comes 12/31/2013 I will no longer be an Adobe customer as Adobe is forcing me out of the upgrade cycle and I won't plan to re-enter anytime soon in the coming future... lesson learnt.
Thank you for your time (if any of the marketing gurus will have cared to read this far without laughing and discounting with a "screw those old customers, they should've upgraded earlier" which was basically the content of the email I got this week... pasted below)
    Cheers,
    tfbkny
Content of email received from Adobe saying last chance to upgrade now or what you got will be worthless in less than a couple months.
    Dear Creative Suite customer:
We want to make sure you're aware of an important change to Adobe's upgrade policy that may affect you.
Beginning January 1, 2013, only Creative Suite customers with licenses for CS5 or CS5.5 versions will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.
Due to this change, we will only continue offering CS3 and CS4 customers like you special upgrade pricing through December 31, 2012.*
    * Owners of CS3 and CS4 individual products and suite editions will be eligible to receive upgrade pricing to CS6 until December 31, 2012. After that date, only customers on CS5 or CS5.5 will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.

Adobe doesn't care, they don't have to. I like Phsotoshop and have been using it professionally for 20 years, but lets face it, I wouldnt mind some really good competition from another source. It didnt use to be the only game in town, and doesnt have to remain so.
I could brainstorm how I would want competing software to look like. Pshop is not the easiest workflow possible. Illustrator is clearly deficient to even CorelDraw, and certainly Freehand. I've been meaning to reconnect with CorelDraw. It did some cool things.
Google Chrome is pulling a lot of manoevers software wise and I hope they try to go a little deeper and give Adobe a run for their money on the one program they feel justifies unbelievable gouging. Go investigate Ableton Live if you want to see what a company that cares about its customers is doing, ADOBE. Audition is a JOKE compared to Ableton Live. Thank God we're not powned on the audio side by these suits.
The idea that a company would peddle buggy software, which CS4 was..., although some of that was Apple's fault, is bad, the upgrade prices were ridiculous, and this is the end of the road for me currently. The idea that a company would actively
push away customers is pretty incredible. "But I sent you an email!" Whoops, you gotta pay $1900 for production premium CS6! HAHAHAHAHA. Time for a YT video with my old hard copy box. Sounds like a good idea.
There are too many options on the motion graphics side, and I'll keep a static machine to run Pshop and AE CS4.
The masters of the universe will have theit way, and the rest must bow to their ambivalent greed. At least that's the way they think. It would seem that Adobe and Apple really, really want some upstarts to come up. Maybe $360 for a year to figure out an exit might work. It will be interesting to see if this hits earnings. VERY interesting.

  • Upgrade Pricing, CS4 Standard to CS4 Extended

Haven't been able to find anything elsewhere on this so I thought I'd see if anyone in the forum could steer me in the right direction.  A couple of months ago I upgraded from CS3 Extended to CS4.  Didn't think I'd need the Extended edition features so I saved a few bucks and went with CS4 Standard.  Now I think I'd like to go to the Extended edition after all, just to get familiar with the tools.  I've been hoping I could locate a way to do so for just the price difference between the two upgrades but I can't turn up anything in the store's upgrade pages ... the cheapest thing listed is the full $349 upgrade from CS3. Anyone know if it's possible to upgrade from Standard to Extended for just the price difference between the two upgrades and if so, how to go about it?
    Thanks

Never heard of it being done but, if it is possible, you would have to do it through adobe customer support.

  • CS4 Creative Suite Standard Install Discs/Download?

So unfortunately my macbook's harddrive just crashed, and with it many photos and applications, including my whole adobe CS4 creative suite standard (student edition).  My problem is that I no longer have the original install discs because my beloved roommate threw the box out.  Also a problem, I cannot even think about upgrading to CS5 (don't really want to) because I am still on OS X10.4 (Tiger).  I have tracked down my serial number through adobe's support (muchos gracias), but have no way of getting ahold of a complete CS4 creative suite standard install discs/download.  I have tracked down a friend's CS4 Photoshop install discs (but that doesn't work with my serial #) as well as another friend's CS4 creative suite premium install discs (also doesn't work with my serial #)... Is there anything I can do to get a download or install discs of the programs from adobe?  I only use/need photoshop and bridge, but really need them seeing as I am a ski photographer who is trying to finish up my last edits for winter submissions...

  • Upgrade IDCS2 to CS4 w/o upgrading entire CS2 suite?

I want to upgrade ID CS2 to ID CS4 without upgrading the entire Design Standard suite.
    Reason = it is cheaper.
Will the other CS2 suite components 'get along' with the one IDCS4 component?
Version Cue is not a factor - we don't use it, it is not installed.
All other system requirements are kosher.
    Thanks
    Pete

    Scott,
Thanks for the quick response. After fiddling with the upgrade options
I came to realize what you just expressed.
    Pete
    >>> Scott Falkner <[email protected]> 10/27/2009 3:55:44 PM >>>
It is not cheaper. You cannot upgrade only one component of the suite.
To upgrade only InDesign you would need to purchase a new license. This
costs more that the upgrade for the suite.
However, to answer the rest of your query: InDesign is probably the
best program top upgrade if you only upgrade one. That*s because an
InDesign file is almost always the end product, except for the PDF you
send to the printer and the final printed piece. One generally imports
Illustrator and Photoshop files into InDesign. InDesign CS4 will import
Illustrator and Photoshop CS2 files just fine.

hmm... i wonder if that's "official" or if the installer just doesn't check. i still have cs2 installed on this box, as well as cs3 ee. the rep said that didn't matter as far as the terms of the license went though. (i still say that's not clear and is up for interpretation.) i still haven't decided which i'm going for. the point of my query with the online rep was really to get it cleared up once and for all.
do you still have cs2 or cs installed there too? or just cs3 ee and cs4 standard?
    thanks for the info nick.

  • Design Suite - Upgrade just PS to CS4?

    Hi
This probably was posted before (but this Jive software's search sucks so bad I haven't bothered to look), anyway can I simply buy a Photoshop Extended CS4 upgrade and apply it to the Photoshop installed as part of my Design Suite CS3? Purely a technical question - will  PS CS4 install and will PS CS3 still be there and functional?
I need to start getting up to speed with PS CS4 and there's really no production related need to go the whole 600.00 Suite upgrade route - yet. It looks like the rest of the apps won't benefit from 64-bit code till CS5 (fall 2010) and the PS CS4 upgrade won't go to waste since we have multiple licenses to update in the future. And yes, I know about all that legal, activation stuff associated with that last statement. Thank you for your time.

Thanks Bob, I'll look into that. I'm sorta being a bit pissy because PS is the application used in production around here - I was able to get the design suite because of marketing dept support (DW, ID etc.); there's no way the marketing guy needs to spend the money to get what they need already w/CS3 (they don’t really care how it gets done). And I use those tools so little that I really can't justify a suite upgrade - except to maintain continuity.
It's all about $$$ in a deep recession in an extremely competitive environment. Those are not assumptions. Right now I can justify doing all eight of our PS licenses to PS CS4 upgrades based on a feature set and 64-bit robustness. However, even that is troublesome because half of those CS3 machines are running XP-64 - wait - not supported by CS4! I'll let you talk to our IT manager about Vista or Win 7 .
So yeah, it's tough figuring out which way to go on this, and don't even get me started on my personal set up - what do I do with my Master Collection? There, I need to get going on PS CS4 to keep my ‘real job’ skills up to snuff, but shelling a grand out for ‘just’ that without the PP and AE (I’m just now messing w/video and AE never installed properly) soon-to-be CS5 64-bit updates you mentioned would be just stupid. I’m probably not the only Suite user who’s in this boat, trying to keep our business’ afloat while navigating not just Adobe’s “must have” upgrades, but MS’s multi-OS confusion as well.
This all fits well into The Paradox of Choice, and Adobe, MS, even Google are feeling the effect. It's why PS 7 is still so popular...

  • Creative suite cs4 standard

Hi, I got a very nice present from my brother , who lives in the US: Creative suite CS4 standard. :-) He purchased it in the US. I am living in Europe though.I don't know wether  I can install it  anyway? or are there different licenses for the countries? I haven't installed it yet, because I am a little insecure.. don't want to mess up my new imac. If the programm doesn't work, can I exchange it here? or does have to go back to the US?

Going by my experience of purchasing a CS2 upgrade a few years ago from a Canadian site (much cheaper) and having my sister in Toronto send it over to me here in Britain, you should be OK with regards to installation. Registration and activaton should be okay. The biggest sticking point could well be tech support as you're using a N. American version rather than a EAMER Europe Africa Middle East Region copy. I think the tech support agent will expect you to be living in New Yourk or Chicago rather than London, Manchester or Rome to get full support. Hope this makes sense.
