PS CS3 won't start

I recently installed PSE10 and then uninstalled previous versions.  Since then when starting PS CS3, I get the message "Adobe Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.  How can I repair, or remove PS CS3 so I can reinstall it, or an upgrade to CS6 without it gettng hung up on the old CS3?

Welcome to the forum.
Not sure if it will apply here, but I'll tell you a little story.
I had the full CS2 Production Studio (PS, AI, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Encore, After Effects, OnLocation, and a few others) installed, and then bought and installed Premiere Elements version 4. Suddenly, nothing in my CS 2 Production Studio would launch. Got the same (or very similar) message to what you got. My heart skipped a beat, as PrElements was a minor program, to be used for some special issues. Luckily, Adobe knew of this potential issue, and had already done a KB Article, stating the issue. The "fix" was to do a Repair Install of each of my Production Studio products. It took about 45 mins. to do that for everything, BUT it DID fix everything, and did not hurt PrE 4.0. Apparently, Adobe did not consider that one would have all those "pro" programs, and then install the "consumer" PrE 4.0.
You are talking some different Adobe programs, but I wonder is similar has happened - maybe PSE overwriting a Regisry entry, that PS needs? A folder for PS being replaced by one with the same name, but different .dll files, by PSE?
I know that Adobe has been phasing out the Repair Install option for some programs (wish they would not!), so cannot tell you if it is still available to you, or if you need to Deactivate, uninstall, then reinstall PS.
Good luck, it could be that something else happened, and my story is moot.

    I don't use Vista, but I **think** I have read that an update is required to get CS3 to work with Vista
    Check here, and read the update descriptions

    I use English... so don't know about an Italian version update

  • Cs3 won't start and hand on "reading preferences"

    Hello
    All of a sudden my photoshop won't start and hang on the splash screen " the last message is "reading preferences"
    I Run WINXP service pack2.
    Photoshop version is 10.0.1
    I rebooted did everything (without re-installing)

    You could try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
    You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
    This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
    A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • PS CS3 won't start due to VersionCue.dll missing

    UGH! I am so fed up with CS3. I've been running CS3 for quite awhile now, but was recently switched to a new domain on my network. Photoshop CS3 will not open any documents now and instead gives me the error:
    The application has failed to start because VersionCue.dll was not found.
    VersionCue CS2 is running, which is bizzare because I've got the full CS3 suite. Does anyone have any suggestions outside of having to reinstall CS3?

    Versioncue has caused me problem in the past.
    I had to reinstall ( no biggie ) and from then on I disable it in PS prefs and Bridge as I never use it anyway.
    Never had a problem since.

  • Photoshop CS3 won't start anymore

    I use Photoshop CS3 with OSX 10.4.  Everything has been working great until reccently.  I had a huge job and the amount of memory it took was causing 'scratch dick full' errors.  One day I pulled Photoshop up and it got part way through opening and crashed.  It has been doing this ever since.  I have cleared over 22 gig of space, cleared the preferences by holding down the control, option, shift.... when starting, and finally reinstalled Photoshop.  Nothing works.  All of my other software is working great.  However, I also have CS2 and Photoshop isn't starting on that version either.
    What can I do to get it going again?  I have jobs backed up and I'm falling behind fast!
    Any help appreciated!

    Press and hold Ctrl - Shift - Alt IMMEDIATELY after starting Photoshop from its menu item or shortcut.  This will allow you to reset the preferences to initial defaults.
    I'm betting that will help.

  • Encore CS3 won't start through Premiere or directly

    I recently installed Premiere Pro CS3 with Encore. I completed a short highlight video that I was working on, and attempted to export to Encore. After I selected the direct burn option in Premiere, the video converted alright, and then (I assume from the description in the settings window) Encore tried to open to burn the video to DVD. There was a blank DVD in my drive at the time I did so, if that matters. After waiting 5 mins or so, all I saw was a white window in the middle of screen, and my cursor in 'working in the background' mode. I force quit out of Encore, and attempted to start it directly without any further luck. When trying to start it directly, I saw no white window, but the program was running in task manager, as it was when it tried to run through Premiere.
    I'm doing all of this on a brand new machine:
    AMD Phemom X4 Quad Core 2.3ghz
    8GB DDR2
    ATI Radeon HD 3200
    Vista SP1
    I can provide more information if needed. Thanks in advance.

    The first thing that I would do is apply the detective work in this ARTICLE to see if there is some systemic issue. Be very sure to follow any links in any error/warning message at the time that Encore fails. Matter of fact, I would launch Encore, and then follow the tips in the article, to make sure that things were current.
    If there are no clues, then I'd try a Repair Install, in hopes that a missing, or corrupt .dll, or similar, would be replaced, or reparied.
    I've seen very few instances of Encore not launching, especially as a stand-alone.
    Good luck,

  • Fireworks CS3 won't start

    I'm trying to get Fireworks CS3 to work on Windows 7. I install it, it activates but when I run it nothing happens. The process starts and remains running but nothing appears on the screen. I've checked the Event Logs but nothing's there, any tips on getting it to work? E.g. where do they keep the log files, etc.

  • CS3 won't start after system restore, fails to reinstall

    I am running CS3 design premium on Windows 8. I've have the computer (Lenovo with Intel i5) for two months, though I used the design suite on my previous computer. I had to run System Restore to fix a problem with Firefox, and after I did none of my Adobe products worked. I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times while following the Adobe Help page "error message at installation" guide. Each time I get the message that Acrobat installed correctly, and everything else "Component install failed." I also wiped everything Adobe off the program list (there were a few CC programs I had trialed, plus Flash Player and some plugins) ran the CC cleaner and still got the same error message. I even tried downloading the program files from Adobe in case there was a problem with my disk and that wasn't it either. I tried enabling FLEXnet and installing under a new user, each to no avail. Examining the log file found no instances of "Return value 3" and "FATAL." The search for "ERROR" found several items that I had either already tried or made no sense.
    I ran the system restore again to an earlier point, and now I can't even uninstall anything. The CC cleaner tells me some files could not be cleaned, and I should close my browser and try again, but there are no browsers open. Restarted computer and tried again, same thing. It seems I've tried all the options.
    Super frustrated.

  • CS3 won't start - error at TWAIN building on Vista 64

    I just got an HP pavilion d7 computer running Vista Home Premium (64) on a 2gb processor with 4gb RAM. I successfully installed CS3, entered the license code and activated the software, but when I try to run Photoshop CS3, I get the infamous Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working properly error at the screen where it says it is building TWAIN menu items.
    I've tried the licensing update from Adobe with no success. I've tried running it as administrator, using the compatibility mode...no success. I'm at my wits end.
    Incidentally, I tried installing the PSE7 trial (because I was going to buy it next week) and that gives me the same error whenever I try to access the Editor.
    Can someone help me please?

    kelly170 wrote:
    How do I uninstall TWAIN drivers? I'm not really even sure what these are.
    Scanner drivers, specific drivers for digital cameras and in part even specific printer drivers for printers that use PictBridge or provide memory card slots. Also graphics programs will install dummy TWAIN drivers on occasion. If they are device drivers, the should be visible in your Add or Remove Programs system panel. Otherwise check your Twain sub-directory inside your Windows operating system directory and rip out any suspicious stuff. Once gone, they will not be loaded. Windows' file protection and recovery may restore them, though.

  • Dreamweaver & Flash CS3 won't start

    I have Dreamweaver and Flash in CS3 Design Premium. All other

    after I first installed the suite. Now virtually nothing happens

  • Crashed while export and won't start again...

    Hi guys, i just want to ask, why my PPro, doesn't want to start, it only shows the startup and then shows the application with white screen, after that it closes by itself. no error message or anything. it started when my laptop crushed while i exporting the movie. the screen went crazy. so i shut down the laptop. after that my PPro CS3 won't start. i try to uninstall and reinstall, still the same...now i've tried the CS4, but still won't work. still remain the same. what's the problem...can anyone help me?it's been 4 months i tried to solve, but still got nothing. please help me...

    Ok...sorry, i'm new in this kind of things. or i can say, this is my first posts in this kind of forum...
    I'm using Laptop. it's ASUS F8VrOS : Windows vista Home premium;
    Platform : intel centrino 2;
    Processor : intel core2 duo P8600 2.4 GHz;
    Chipset : mobile intel PM 45 Express + ICH9M + wiFi link 5100;
    Memory : DDR2 800 MHz, 2 GB;
    Screen : 14,1 inches  WXGA+/WXGA;
    Graphic system : GPU ATI mobility radeon HD 3470, 256 MB memory;
    HDD 250SATA; anything i didn't mention?
    ok, the case is, i use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 before. i was using it doing my personal project, basically only combining .avi video. it's finished, and then i want to export it as a movie. but when it's still rendering, my laptop crushed, the screen went crazy (looked so colorful(u know what i mean?^^)), then i couldn't do anything. so i just shut it down forcefully. since then on, i can't use the PPro anymore. i've tried to reinstall, still the same. the startup screen still appear (the loading of all .prm file), but when the application come in, it directly shuts down. with no error message. i also install the PPro CS4, but still the same...is it my laptop or the PPro?

  • CS3 Bridge won't start

    For the first time, Bridge won't start-up either from CS3 or the XP Programs areas in Startup. I downloaded and inrtalled the CS3 Bridge 2.1.1 update and it did not help. I get the Message: The app failed to initilize properly (Oxc0000022). Click OK to Terminate. Please help if you can, thanks. phil
    PS only change to my computer that I know of is I installed an ran Perfect Image defrag program

    I did as you sugested: "
    Hold down the crtl + shift + alt keys and start photoshop. You will be a window "Delete Adobe PS Settings File". Choose yes".  I am running XP Pro, and when I use the crtl-shift-alt keys while starting CS3, the Adobe Bridge CS3 Properties Window pops up.  Not anything suggesting to
    "Delete Adobe PS Settings File".
    I assure you that I am holding the keys properly, and continuously as I double click on the shortcut to CS3.  Do you have another method that can be used to accomplish this???
    I do not know if my original message was clear, but I cannot start Bridge.  When I do so, I get the following message:
    Bridge.exe - App Error.  The apploication failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022).
    So I do appreciate your suggestion to:
    "To reset preferences in Bridge hold down Crtl key and start Bridge. You will get a reset window, choose all 3 options"
    but I can't start Bridge, so I can't change the prefs.
    Thanks for trying anyway.  Phil

  • CS3 Premier Pro Won't Start due to Komplete 5 .dll Loading...

    Hi,
    I'm running Komplete 5 by Native Instruments on a brand new Quad Core laptop that was built and tweaked by a pro audio company that specializes in configuring machines for musicians. The Win XP Professional system runs very well.
    After installing Adobe CS3 Suite, I noticed that the only program that won't start properly now is Premier Pro. When try to start Premier Pro 3.0, the splash screen opens and I can see the Komplete 5 software programs (Kontakt 3, Massive, Pro 53...) trying to load their .dll files. After a few seconds, Premier Pro quits and gives me a Runtime Error.
    I've searched around a little bit and can't even find the .dll's for Komplete 5 to try the suggested experiment of moving them away out of their folder and then to bring them back after (if) I get Premier Pro to start as I have indexing turned off on the drives (which I "think" is to keep the system speedy?) so searching manually has not been easy so far. I looked in the vst folder and they are not there, unless I am missing something.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Jerry,
    You likely have an issue with one, or more, of the NI .dll's. There have been several issues with these. Do a search of this forum (go back to get all Premiere versions) for "Native Instruments." There are serveral threads on moving the .dll's, so that Premiere doesn't try to load them. Premiere will attempt to load every registered VST/.dll, as you have found. NI's do cause PP to hang.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 won't start on my computer

    Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 won't start on my computer I use windows XP.
    Whenever I try to open the Photoshop I get a message "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
    and at the bottom of the message "to see what data this error report contains, click here.
    so I clicked, and that is what I got:
    Error signature:

    The ScriptingSupport.8li that comes with Photoshop CS5.1 should have the module version 12.1.0.0 as well.
    It sounds as if you have done something where you have mixed modules from an older version of Photoshop (CS3) into those that Photoshop CS5 is enumerating during startup.
    Did you, by chance, copy the entire contents of a folder (e.g. plug-ins or scripts) and get extra files you didn't intend?
    Have you set an Extra plug-ins folder up to point to the plug-ins for an earlier version of Photoshop?
    Mixing up versions of Photoshop is a no-no.
    You may want to start by clearing your Photoshop  preferences...  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediate after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're quick enough, and you have to be VERY quick to get the keys down, it will prompt you to confirm deletion of the preferences it already has set up, which will then cause it to use defaults.

  • Photoshop elements won´t start

    Hallo Adobe Photoshop elements 12 won´t start. The editor does not start, the organizer has no problmes. I have reinstall the programm (sorry is english is not so good) because i had installed new hardware. (Mainboard, CPU, RAM). After restarting the systems the programm worked fine. After some days elements was only in trial-mode. First I irgnired it but then i deinstalled it an  reinstalled it on a new ssd. Installing and entering the CD-Key was no problem. Organizer launched without any problems but the photoeditor does not start. Log-Files are okay, no errors while install-progress. I did everything, reinstalling, using ccleaner and i tried to delete manuelly everything with "photshop elements" in the regestry (with new installation after that....).
    Running the setup und the exe as admin did´nt help.
    has anybody a solution for me or  a direkt link to contact adobe?

    try uninstalling, cleaning (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and then installing.
