PS CS4 3D - Raytrace and Glossiness problem

Question

When working with a 3D layer, I cannot use any textures besides the diffuse texture at the same time as using the render setting "Ray Traced".  For example, everything works great when the render setting is set to "Solid": I can use a high quality glossiness texture and even a bump map.  But as soon as I juice up the render settings to Ray Traced, Photoshop freezes up, and I have to force quit it through the task manager.  The texture being used is high rez, as in 8192 by 4096, but the same freeze up occurs on a smaller texture of 2000 by 4000.  Any ideas on why it glitches up so horribly?
This first image is the objects 3d settings, I have both a bump texture and a glossiness texture enabled.
When I change the preset to from "solid" to "Ray Traced", Photoshop dies a slow painful death.

I don't think it's actually dying, it just takes forever to render anything. The renderer is far from "highly optimized"... The better question is, how much RAM you have in your system and what system it actually is. Due to the large texture sizes, there may be a problem loading them both at the same time and then you simply run out. The more conventional modes may not suffer from it, because the shading calculations are done in a different order, allowing values to be sampled on the texture and then transforming them in 3D as opposed to calculating the exact properties of the 3D intersection point with raytracing. You might not have any problems doing that on the 64bit version, but the 32bit version may not be able to cope...
