PS CS4 and raw BATCH EDIT?

Hello to everyone.
I'm new here and... I've lost myself trying to find an answer before asking, but... :(
I desperately need a way to edit, in batch mode, the raw files and save the results in different files.
For example I'd love to create a (sort of) action where
- set 1st setting
- save as file A
- set 2nd setting
- save as file B
- set 3rd setting
- save as file C
- etc
But when I try to do that, I can't (I'm not able to...) record an action working in raw.
Please heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp me!!! :(
Thx in advance and sorry for my terrible English!
Leo

thx both for the answers but...
1. I don't know anything about scripting. :( I've tried to read and understand something via adobe pdfs or reading some sites, but a black hole is in my mind :(
2. I've looked into image processor from bridge but it move me to photoshop... a part from this, it is asking me to use an action but... how can I record an action editing a raw file?!!??!?!?!?!!?!
I've tried to create a new action, open a raw file, manage settings, save it to a tif file and... NOTHING appeared into the new action.
I can't tell ps to record in an action what I'm doing in raw edit! :(

  • ID CS4 and Adobe Digital Editions

    One reason I purchased ID CS4 was for the ability to create ebooks using ADE. However, my first attempt to export to ADE has been far from successful.
    The project is a 152-page book. It was "created" in ID CS4 and is straight text except for the publisher's logo, which appears on the title page. Each chapter is its own file, as is each element of the front matter. Three fonts are used in the publication: Arial, Formata, and Palatino. The Formata and Palatino fonts are OT fonts; they were newly purchased as OT fonts for this client. Each use of italic or bold in the book's text, excluding heads, is by a character style that includes the font family name. For example, if the text is supposed to be Palatino Italic, the character style includes both bits of information, a generic Italic is not used.
    I combined all of the elements of the project into a single ID Book, which is what I used to update numbering, etc. When I export to PDF from the Book, everything works fine. When I export to Adobe Digital Editions from the Book, the following occurs:
    1. Arial and Palatino are embedded but Formata is not.
    2. The first and last files of the Book (i.e., the title page and the References) appear in the ePub file and are viewable in the ADE viewer, but everything between those two files, including all of the text chapters, are empty files that appear as blank pages in the ADE viewer.
    What am I doing wrong? How do I
    a. Get Formata embedded?
    b. Get the complete project into an ePub file?
    Another thought: Would the way to do this be to do each chapter as a separate export to ADE and then combine each of the separate files into a single ePub file? If so, how would one do this? I've noted that when creating an ePub file several additional informational files are created. It isn't clear to me how one would combine that information.
    Also, is there a good source and/or book (or several sources and/or books) that gives step-by-step instruction information on turning a project into an ePub file? Although this project has no graphics, tables, etc., future projects will have numerous graphics, tables, etc. and so any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You're not actually doing anything wrong. You're experiencing a bug. Hopefully it will be fixed in an upcoming update to InDesign CS4.
    The cause of the problem comes down to the spaces in the name of the font you've used in your document (i.e. Myriad Pro Bold). If an embedded font contains spaces in its name, it won't be used and Adobe Digital Editions will use its default font instead. The problem can be overcome by directly editing the EPUB file. I use Oxygen to open up the EPUB file directly, but you can also change the .epub file extension to .zip and then unarchive the package to gain access to the various files within it. Once you've opened the EPUB file, you need to modify three things: the template.css file, encryption.xml file, and the font files.
    Template.css
    At the top of the CSS file, you'll see font face declarations for each font you've used in your document. If your font(s) has spaces in its name, you'll notice that a %20 has replaced the space. Change each instance of the %20 to a hyphen. Here's an example:
    @font-face {
    font-family: Myriad Pro;
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: bold;
    src:url(Fonts/MyriadPro%20Bold.otf);
    Change to:
    @font-face {
    font-family: Myriad Pro;
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: bold;
    src:url(Fonts/MyriadPro-Bold.otf);
    Encryption.xml
    For each type style you've used in your document, there will be a <enc:CipherData> element. If your font(s) has spaces in its name, you'll notice that a %20 has replaced the space here as well. Change each instance of the %20 to a hyphen. Here's an example:
    <enc:CipherData>
                 <enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/MyriadPro%20Regular.otf"/>
    </enc:CipherData>
    Change to:
    <enc:CipherData>
                <enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/MyriadPro-Regular.otf"/>
    </enc:CipherData>
    Font Files:
    Within the EPUB package is a folder called "Fonts," where all the embedded fonts reside. You need to rename the files by replacing the spaces with hyphens.
    That's all there is to it. After editing and saving the files, you'll have to rearchive the package and change the .zip extension back to .epub. If you use Oxygen to edit the package, there is no rearchiving necessary. You can also use the free PDFXML Inspector, but I definitely prefer Oxygen since it provides many more tools and its not so clunky.

  • CS4 and Raw- small file size

    I have RAW files that are anywhere from 7-15MB.  They are opening as 10x15 inches.  My JPEGS open in much larger files sizes - about 50+ inches.  I have downloaded the latest Adobe RAW plug-in updates for CS4.  Using a Canon 40D.  Searched and seached online for an explanation. Thank you

    I think it just has to do with the resolution settings in the files.
    They are the same size but the resolution is set different.
    For example, the camera raw files are probably around 240 and the jpegs are around 72.
    If you open a jpeg and camera raw file and set the resolution of the jpeg to match the camera raw file, then they should
    be the same document size.
    Find the resolution of the camera raw file under Image>Image Size.
    Open one of the jpegs and in Image>Image Size uncheck Resample Image and type in the same resolution as the raw file
    and see if the document size is the same.

  • I have re-installed PS CS4 and Bridge onto my new Macbook Pro, but I cannot open or edit RAW files?

    I just bought a new Macbook, and I tried transferring my Photoshop CS4 and Bridge to my new one via my external Hard Drive. It's worked in the past (I did it when transferring my desktop to my laptop), but this time, I am unable to open or edit RAW files. Bridge won't even allow me the option of "Camera Raw Settings" when going under "File".
    I've tried searching for answers to my questions through these forums, and the closest I have gotten is that I need to download the updated Camera Raw plug-in, and I can't find it. Also, I need to download the update to the DNG or something like that, which I did, and that still doesn't work. I've extracted and refiled my RAWs to DNG's, and they will still not open in either Bridge, nor Photoshop. So, now I'm feeling helpless and I'm getting very frustrated at this point.
    I shoot with a Canon 7d in RAW format. I've done this for years, and my computers have opened them with CS4 since I've had it.
    I appreciate any and all help, thank you!

    "Moving", copying, transferring or migrating Adobe applications is to be avoided at all costs.
    Always install from the original media, from scratch, then apply all updates available all over again.  The Camera Raw plug-in, for example, is buried deep inside your root level Library.
    Your best course of action is to uninstall CS4, download and run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and re-install CS4 as per the previous paragraph.

  • No changes appear when batch editing Camera Raw Files and saving as jpegs

    When I batch edit my raw files, including saving the file as a jpeg, from bridge or photoshop the resulting file saved never includes any changes I made in the Camera Raw editor. For example if I have lightened the photo by changing the exposure in Camera Raw as a saved jpeg after batching the file is still as dark as when originally shot. Is there some little box I forgot to check or something? Thanks!
    andy

    I've seen something like this, but have not figured out why yet. In my situation I select a group of images in Bridge and go to Tools / Photoshop / Image Processor.
    There I click the "open first image to apply settings" box.
    Save in Same Location
    Save as JPEG, resize to fit (1200 pixels), Convert Profile to sRGB.
    No Action selected
    Include ICC Profile
    Run it and in Camera Raw roll the saturation down to -100 (convert to b&W).
    Click "Open Image"
    The process runs and the first image is converted to b&w, but the others are not.

  • CS4 Media Encoder batch jobs, and .avi ffdhshow

    I have two distinct, but slightly related questions to ask.
    First I should point out: I've used Premiere and After Effects for creative purposes before, but today I am using Adobe software for a more practical purpose: some engineering research work. Essentially, I have thousands of hours of video to process, I have all the firepower needed to perform it, I am currently limited by the ammount of time I am stuck clicking away at the computer.
    Essentially my job right now is to convert and concatonate 1 minute segments into larger cohesive files. I say convert because the supplied files are encoded as .avi with an obscure proprietary surveillance video format (Mavix, for those of you familiar, doubt it though, even a google search won't bring up anything). It's okay, I have the VFW installed and so far I've been doing fine (if not slowly) pre-converting to NTSC DV default with AME CS4 and then importing into VDub (handy because of it's automatic file appending feature) at which point I compress with ffdshow (gave me the best performance considering quality, compression and processing perfromance). Vdub is also handy because I can take better advantage of multi-cores (8 per machine) by running Vdub jobs and AME jobs simultaneously. I am still amazed how mult-tasking on these machines gets me absolutly no performance hits.
    Why is it that I am using AME? It seems to be the only thing that can decode these Mavix files (I've tried them all). And only a direct convert through AME... if I open it up in premiere first, then export it, the video glitches.
    Question 1:
    Right now, the biggest challenge is batch converting videos. I can drag up to 70-75 videos (regardless of hardware) into AME before it starts rejecting files. I would like for it to pre-process thousands of them at a time automatically. Any ideas how the queue size can be increased or how I can properly batch convert thousands of files at a time? Checking back at a computer every 20 minutes for a week is a real waist of time when I could leave it sit over the weekend in a corner and do it's thing.
    Question 2:
    I wanted to reuse the concatenated files that Vdub spat out (.avi ffdshow H.264 -> no comments please, I have a good reason for doing this) for some other work. I just want to know if it is possible to get Premiere to work from these files directly or if I have to reconvert them to somethign else first. So far, importing them yields black video.

    Hi,
    I have absolutely no experience with this...but as to question number 2... I did a google search on ---avi ffdshow h264 cs4 ----and found this info
    As you probaby know a lot of people using premiere are adament about NOT loading codec packs, and in particular ffdshow and k-lite...but you probably know that or you might not have said " no comments please "....etc.
    That said, there is a part of the following stuff that says something about using cs4 with ffdshow with h264 enabled in the video and something enabled in the sound.. and then the reference to K-lite...but that k-lite post was using ( at that point ) a different editor I think...so take this with a grain of salt and maybe check the ffdshow enabled setting so you can see your video in PP...
    Good luck  ....and I hope your computer doesnt explode  or anything bad happens...which might mean a total reformat and reinstall etc...

    For simple edits, you can use vdub (see above)
    If you need a NLE, Vegas Pro 8 will work, if you have ffdshow (h.264 enabled) or x264vfw, but it won't see the audio. So you can open it in vdub and save the audio as wav then import into Vegas
    Premiere Pro CS4 will work, but you need ffdshow (h.264 enabled in the video configuration and MSADPCM enabled in the audio configuration)
    Cheers

    Hi, I just bought a Creative Vado HD and I have 3 clips I just want to paste together.
    I downloaded Virtualdub, downloaded x264vfw, downloaded ffdshow (h.264 enabled) and installed all three. I still can't open any of the Vado HD clips into Virtualdub. I get an error message. Is there another step I am missing?
    Thanks in advance!

    do you have this version installed?
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/
    if that doesn't work for you , enable h.264 in the ffdshow vfw decoder interface (yellow icon, not red icon), because vdub relies on vfw , not directshow    ( ROBODOG2 NOTE ----GRAPHIC BELONGS HERE.....SEE BELOW )

    @poisondeathray - yes that helped! thank you!!!
    Now that I am able to "edit" my Creative Vado HD videos in Virtualdub, I notice something very strange. Each video clip is approx 30 seconds long. The total combined/merged clips should be approx 2:30 long. However, windows media player (as well as right clicking for properties) says the video is WAY longer than it should be (like 11 min long)!!!
    Anyone else notice this? Is this a virtualdub mistake or human error on my part?

    Did you do any editing or just append the clips? If you edited portions did you cut on keyframes?
    Did you set "direct stream copy" for video & audio?
    What do other media players (e.g. vlc, kmplayer, smplayer) and mediainfo say about the joined clip ?

    Has anyone found a solution to this issue yet? I can't believe Creative would release a product like this with almost no 3rd-party support. I really wanted to get this camera, but this is a deal-breaker. I managed to get a few raw files from the Vado HD to test. They work fine just for playing in WMP, but I cannot edit the videos in any program I tried. Adobe Premiere CS4 doesn't work. You see the audio but no video. If you try to do basically anything it crashes. Sony Vegas 9 doesn't work either. Same deal, audio with no video. Same issue in VirtualDub. I have ffdshow installed and H.264 is enabled (libavcodec). Do I have any other options here?

    Download and install K-Lite mega codec pack. The ffdshow configuration will be pretty streamlined so you likely won't have to screw around with it after the install.

  • I have a CS4 and would like to install Camera Raw 8.6. How do i do it?

    I have a CS4 and would like to install Camera Raw 8.6. How do i do it? The reason being in LR5 when I want to edit the images in Photoshop Layers, the message comes that I need to install Camera Raw 8.6 for compatibility.  Even
    After installing Camera Raw 8.6 I am unable to install the plugin in CS4. Please advice.

    Camera Raw 8.6 is only compatible with Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC. There is no way for you to install it in Photoshop CS4.  The message you are receiving means that you need Camera Raw 8.6 to have full compatibility with Lightroom 5. But in that message you are given the option to edit a copy that includes the Lightroom adjustments. That is the option that you should use. Lightroom will create a copy (PSD or TIF, depending on your choice in Lightroom preferences) and will send that copy to Photoshop CS4. Then you can use Photoshop and all of its features to continue editing your image. When you close and save the image in Photoshop, it will appear in your Lightroom folder along with the original raw file.
    Another option you could use would be to use the free Adobe DNG converter to create DNG (digital negative) copies of your raw files. Those DNG files would be compatible with the Photoshop that you have now. Your other option would be to upgrade your Photoshop.

    Edit:
    Glad to hear you got it working.
    I'll just leave what i had put here anyway.
    You want Program Files (x86)
    That's where the 32 bit programs such as photoshop cs3 are on a windows 7 64 bit system.
    Also, in bridge cs3 under Edit>Preferences>Thumbnails ensure Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for Jpeg and Tiff files is checked.
    (then restart bridge cs3)

    Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
    No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
    TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
    There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
    On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
    I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
    I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
    With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?

    If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
    "Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
    Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."

    In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
    Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
    Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
    I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

  • Batch Editing in Photoshop CS4

    Hey guys, i want to batch edit image from aperture using CS4. Specifically I have an action set up that changes size an applies logo. My query is, how to I tell CS4 that i want to batch images from Aperture? Without exporting to desktop or whatever from Aperture ideally. I'm looking at doing about 300 images a batch. (In their own albums)
    Cheers
    Rowan

    I don't know that you can batch to CS4. It's usually a one-at-a-time edit.
    For batch applying a logo, using Aperture's watermarking functionality would be an easy way to do this, without having to use Photoshop.

    Hi, Accidentally somebody screw up Photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 Master edition on a MAC computer in the school. The install discs did not start to run therefore I can't  reinstall the 2 missing programs. I want to install the softwares, therefore I download those from here.  The downloaded program refuse to accept the serial number which was given to the school when they purchased the Master Collection CS4 MLP A00. Thank you for your help, in advance.

    Hi Jeff,
    Thank you. I am a little bit busy at work, sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to solve the problem, but it still exists. The 3rd of the Adobe disk is damaged someway. I tried to run on my mac at home and it has a failure. So I think we have no other choice that to download the full pack of master collection. I had a discussion with the IT expert and he figured out that company does not exist any more from where they purchased the Adobe Master Collection for Mac and PC. So If you would be kind to help me, what kind of information ID or any kind of document would be needed to identify the purchaser institute (us). I don't think any of us has an account at the Adobe. I will try to figur out. I desperately need to replace Photoshop and InDesign as without them it's really harsh to teach the kids fot the graphic design.
    Sincerely yours.

  • Can I merge a JPG and RAW folder in a catalog and keep the edits?

    I usually shoot RAW plus JPG and always used to copy all of them into the same folder. That worked fine, but was a little pointless as the JPG was only used as a temporary preview before the RAW was loaded in behind it. For speed of editing at events, I started to split the files in to two separate folders and import both, but tag and do basic edits, crops etc on the JPGs so for 'news' website use, then work on any higher quality client requirements from the RAW. It would be nice if I could later merge the two together so that those basic edits - and ratings etc - were then applied to the RAW files. They have the same names - bar the extensions, of course - having be renamed by LR on import. I tried it on a test shoot, but it just seems to add separate JPG and RAW images to the catalog. Is there a way to have it associate the unedited RAW with the edited JPG?

    Hello Guy gswarbrick,
    I am not sure I understand where your current workflow with the JPGs saves you time:
    Do you load them into your LR catalog, and do you do the ratings and crops there?
    Then for selling on the web you export the JPGs thusly edited from LR?
    Do you use a laptop on site/in the field for this?
    I am just wondering, where you would actually loose time if your workflow would be the following:
    General preparation of your LR set-up:
    Define a default develop setting for RAWs that matches your camera's JPG-conversion pretty fine, so that the result would be almost identical without any explicit develop edit.
    Define a default export setting for your JPGs to be sold on the web on the day: choose the quality, the size (resizing rules) fit for web, colour space most probably sRGB, ... (no adding to the catalog)
    Workflow during the shooting day:
    Only import RAWs, no JPGs at all.  [Do you fear this takes longer than imprting the JPGs?]
    Do the quick stuff during the day like you do today on the JPGs, just on the RAWs. Should also be rating/labeling and cropping, nothing more thanks to your prepared default develop settings.
    ...Compared to any option with ExifTool or the like for the final RAW-work (4.) you would definitely save the time there.
    So the question is: would you really loose time during the critical phase on shooting day?
    I guess not, provided your default develop settings achieve pretty much your camera's jpg-conversion. You may need to experiment a little there, make these defaults specific to ISO ranges and camera serial number if you shoot with several cameras, but once this prep is done there should be no more substantial delay.
    Unless you post the images directly from camera to the web without passing through LR catalog. Or your field laptop would be of very low spec.
    Where to start? Let's start with my laptop; it's about the highest spec available, coupled with Sandisk Extreme Pro cards and a high speed card reader. What about my fear that importing the RAWs would take longer than the JPGs? Well, a small, basic JPG is about 500k, the equivalent uncompressed RAW file is 12Mb, so I reckon about 24x as long to import - give or take. Plus the time to render the RAW file, which isn't required for the JPG. And that's assuming I'm not adding default develop settings, which have a small but not insignificant overhead. For that reason, the RAW imports are usually done after the events or during (rare) breaks.
    I've arrived at this workflow through 5 years of experimentation. RAW-only simply does not work for these sorts of events. Most of my 'competitors' shoot JPG-only, for that very reason, but I don't want to lose the RAW option for the print work.

  • I had to reinstall CS4 and now raw images taken with my Canon 7D will not open in ACR.
