PS CS4/CS5 Print Orientation

Hello,
I have both Photoshop CS4 and CS5 on my Mac, both are updated with the latest updates and until now have been in full working order.  I used to be able to select landscape orientation on my printers.  Now however, whenever I select it, the printer sends out an image that is unscaled in portrait format.  I am mapped to three network printers, none of the printers have changed nor has my mac, and none of the printers output correctly.  It had printed fine before now, and images or documents still print correctly out of Preview, Acrobat, Word, and Illustrator (both CS4 and CS5).  As far as I know I have not changed anything.  Does anyone know why this is happening and what can be done to fix it?  I'd prefer a Photoshop native answer and not a workaround if possible.
Thanks,
Shaun

Here is a simple solution I found at the apple forums after much searching both here and there.
In the finder open a new window and go to the "Go" menu and select "Go To Folder..."
Enter this path...
/usr/libexec/cups/filter/
In this folder you will find the pstops file that is causing problems. Enter Time Machine, and search backwards for a previously dated pstops file and restore that file, replacing the one in the folder (you will need to enter your administrator password).
And the good news, you don't even have to restart your mac. Just go to print, and BOOM!!!
If you are working in a multi-mac environment, copy that now working file to your server and copy it to any macs that have that problem.

  • CS4 Print Orientation Problem

    Hello-
I just upgraded to InDesign CS4, and I'm having an issue with the print orientation. I'm running MAC OSX 10.4.11.
When printing from all previous versions of InDesign, the top paper edge in the print dialog box "layout preview" (lower left of box) would always be our "gripper edge" when sending plates. So, when I'd plate a job, anything portrait would print as is, and anything landscape would print 90-degrees clockwise (so the left gripper edge would then be at the top).
Now, when I print in CS4, anything portrait is fine, but landscape jobs seem to want to be rotated 90-degrees counter-clockwise, making the bottom of the preview the gripper edge.
Now, this seems to be fixed by simply choosing the opposite rotation on the Setup screen, but I'd rather fix it "correctly" rather than just putting a band-aid on the problem, and would really prefer to understand what in CS4 has changed. Its also easier to train new personnel to always think of the top as the gripper edge, versus telling them that its the top on portrait jobs, but the bottom on landscape jobs.
FYI -- I copied all of my print presets from CS3. And, just to make sure nothing changed in my RIP, I double-checked that Quark and CS3 are unaffected. I'm thinking that there has to be some new orientation adjustment feature or something of the sort that is counteracting my choices, but I can't seem to figure it out.

    Hi there,
Just figured this one out. All you have to do is trash the two preference files:
These are normally hidden files, so you will need to set your system to show them.
They will be found in various places depending on the OS, and the version of InDesign.
    InDesign Defaults:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application
Data\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<language>\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language
    folder is not used).
    Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\ (Note: Prior
to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
    Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/<Version
#>/<Language>/(Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
    InDesign SavedData:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Application
    Data\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\Caches\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the
    language folder is not used).
Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\<Version
#>\<Language>\Caches\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
    Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/
(Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).

  • Long-time Elements user who had planned for CS4, CS5 or CS6 on disk

As a long-time Elements user who had planned to purchase Photoshop CS4, CS5 or CS6 right before the Cloud changed everything, why can't I get the cloud subscription for $9.99? This makes me want to just buy an older disk on EBay or elsewhere.

why can't I get the cloud subscription for $9.99?
Are you trying to subscribe to the Photoshop Photography Program (PS+LR)?
That deal is available to anyone, regardless of whether you've purchased Adobe software in the past or not.

  • Using Photoshop CS4/CS5 and Lightroom 2/3 on Win 7 vs OSX

I do NOT want to re-ignite the no-win discussion of pc vs mac. Now that CS5 is announced, yet again as I preprare to upgrade from CS4, I ask if I should convert fromWin7 64-bit on a PC to MAC Pro running OSX. I currently run a WIN 7 64-bit PC with 8 GB Ram. I would consider buying a MAC PRO with 8 GB RAM. The machine(s) are used strictly for image processing, no general office work or general internet surfing except as relates to supporting my software, etc.
I don't want to discuss PC vs MaC but I would like to understand the limits, advantages/disadvantages of one platform vs the other as specifically relates to CS4/CS5 and/or Lightroom 2/3. In other words are there functions or processes that I can do on one platform and not the other, or do better on one compared to the other, not does one cost more than the other any comments or help?? Mike

As a casual user of CS products, I find no substantive differences between using them on a Mac vs. PC. I can cross post this question over to the Photoshop forum (originally posted to the Photoshop.com web site forum, which is not just about the desktop app).
It's probably going to become a Mac vs. PC discussion, since the question is inherently 'which is better', but hopefully people will remain objective and constructive!

  • CS6 Beta Modifies CS4 & CS5 Bridge File Associations (W7 Pro 64Bit SP1)

    Symptoms:
    After installing CS6 including bridge CS6 onto a W7 pro 64Bit Machine with SP1.
The File associations in the existing copies of CS4 and CS5 bridge are updated to make the CS6 Beta the default programme for opening the majority of file types from either CS4 or CS5 bridge.
When right clicking ona file from CS4/5 bridge only the option of opening in CS6 is presented
    Expected Bahaviour:
I expected that CS6 would be the default programme launched from CS6 bridge but that CS4/CS5 would remain the default programmes launched from their own versions of bridge.
Setting CS6 as the default file association in previous versions of bridge makes no sense at the Beta stage, as it interupts a clean migration back to existing workflow.
I would also question the value in not preserving the existing file associations in prior versions of bridge in the final CS6 release, as there are cases when it might be desirable to go back to a previous version of CS, in which case opening that version of bridge and launching directly into the prior versions of CS is very desirable.
Is there anyway to quickly restore the previous associations in CS4/CS5 bridge and be sure that they are exactly the same as prior to the CS6 beta install ?

Sorry for the noise. I misunderstood your depth of knowlege and what you had tried. I also committed the sin of not testing the procedure all the way through because I did not want to change the association on my computer. I get the same behavior.
    Guess for .jpg
    Registry shows for .jpg:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jpg\UserCho ice  Progid = Applications\Photoshop.exe
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command  (Default) = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
UserChoice seems to be added when I made the association choice. Note that it points into Applications with a non-version specific Photoshop.exe. Within HKLM\....\Applications there is only one Photoshop.exe -- no version -- and that entry points to CS6.
I believe that explains why the browsed to association is CS6. It does not explain why it would be set up that way. Probably has something to do with Windows special handling of certain file extensions. Beyond my depth and tells me I am not going to find a solution.

After migrating all of my adobe software (Cs4, cs5, etc.) to my new imac, the software won't open due to many errors. Any help on this?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Adobe software is conflictive when you use Migration Assistant because their applications don't work properly after migration. If you keep the DVDs or the installers of your software, use them to reinstall all your Adobe applications and they should start working correctly

  • How can you tell what version of Illustrator (Ver. 10, CS4, CS5, CC Ver.17, etc.) saved artwork is in?

Our company needs to save artwork we create in Illustrator in different versions depending on our various client's needs. Is there anyway to know what version of Illustrator (Version 10, CS4, CS5, CC Version17, etc.) saved artwork is in? When we view preferences it just shows the current version of the application not the version the individual artwork is saved at. Any advise would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

  • CS5 print dlg reverts to 'Photoshop Manages Colors'

Hello!  I'm struggling with the Print dialog box in CS5 (12.0.4 x64).  I want to apply printer color adjustments to a print job.  I choose 'Printer Manages Colors' then open the Print Settings dialog for the printer, make the changes I want then click OK.  On returning to the Photoshop Print dialog I see that where I had chosen 'Printer Manages Colors' has reverted to 'Photoshop Manages Colors.'  If I open the printer properties dialog again I find the settings set to default rather than to the settings I had just previously selected.
FYI, under Printer Profile in the Photoshop Print dialog the printer's ICM profile is selected.
Any idea what is happening?  What more information can I furnish here that would be helpful?

you have a choice of Color Sync or Epson (on a Mac
in the "Photoshop Manages Colors" work flow, you shouldn't be concerning yourself with ColorSync (or Epson controls)
you do have Adobe (ACE) set as the Conversion Options: Engine (in Ps Edit> Color Settings> More Options> Conversion Options )?
but let me go over the basic framework of this workflow in CS5:
it may be a wise move to delete your printer from Print & Fax and add it back (as well as updating to the latest driver)
    1) Open a copy of WhackedRGB PDI test image in Photoshop
USE THE EMBEDDED PROFILE (do not convert)
confirm the "Document Profile" in the lower-left corner of Ps window
    2) File> Print will pull up this window (below)
    DOCUMENT PROFILE is WhackedRGB.icc
PRINTER PROFILE is your specific printer/paper/ink ICC profile
    RENDERING INTENT (try Perceptual)
BLACK POINT COMPENSATION (try checking this)
if you are using CS6 be sure to uncheck 16-bit color
    3) click on Printer Settings... and Printer Settings> Basic to pull up the following screenshot
Media Type is the "type" of paper surface (not an ICC profile)
Color Mode: Off (No Color Management) should be grayed (using Photoshop Manages Colors)
AT THIS POINT HITTING SAVE> PRINT is the correct move to start the printing
you don't need to monkey around the other areas under this basic tutorial
if you want to look at Advanced Color Settings to verify driver color management is "off" (for all practical purposes) -- click on Color Settings and confirm:

  • After upgrading to CS5, printing PDFs has become a nightmare!

After upgrading to CS5, printing PDFs has become a nightmare!
    For example,
    1. It would never finish printing the file, just the first so many pages. So...
    2. I updated the driver, and then I could print one copy only without problems. But...
    3. I can never print more than one copy of a PDF without collate mis-sequence problems. It just does not print one whole copy before printing the next copy. And it goes back and forth printing some of the first copy, then the second, then a few pages from the first, etc. Eventually it all prints, but they are mixed up sequentially. But some pages are in order.  And...
    4. It prints soooo slow compared to before.
    I upgraded from CS3

But now, since I upgraded to a Master Suite of CS5, at first it would never print the whole file, even once. And when I upgraded to the Universal Print Driver, and or any other drivers, it will only print one copy of a PDF without mis-sequencing the printed pages, and it is so slow. It is worthless.
    Pat-
P.S. I think I need to try to call Ricoh or something, but will that work? Sigh!
Yeah, this sounds like a general print driver problem with the newer versions of the Adobe products, not just Acrobat or ID. Ricoh may or may not have an updated driver, but theyare definitely the ones to ask.
You haven't told us the OS... Some Mac users have had good luck, I think, using the CUPS drivers with problem printers when the manufacturer doesn't have a solution, but I'm a Windows guy, so don't do much with Mac printing.

  • Can CS4 import printing presets from CS3?

I found the preset folder in the CS3 folder but nothing in there were caller printer presets.  I see presets for workspace, swatches, and many other things but not printing.  We just upgraded here and I have about 20-30 presets that I REALLY do not want to have to recreate from scratch again!

    Yes
    You open up CS3
    File>Print Presets
    Select the Preset and SAVE
    Open up CS4
    File>Print Presets
    Select Load
    Find Saved file

  • How to set default print orientation in oracle reports 6i?

Can anyone please help how to set default print orientation of Oracle Reports 6i? Currently document is printed in Portrait orientation, but I need to print it in Landscape orientation. Is this possible?

It is solved now. Go to Layout Model -> Main Section, Press F4. In the property pallet select the Orientation that is required to be selected when print is taken for that report.

  • PSE 8 always uses landscape as printer orientation by default?

    Windows 7x64.
I have a number of multi-page docs created in PSE. No matter what printer I select, and despite them being in a standard portrait size/orientation, the print options ALWAYS default to landscape. I've checked the actual printer under "printers and devices", and the actual settings there are portrait.
This is worse because I must actually use the print options dialog box to move manually through EACH PAGE of the document to be printed, and set the printer options to "portrait" on every page. If I fail to do even one page, the entire document is printed landscape, cutting of page contents.
The preview shows each page is indeed landscape until I do this procedure, at which time it flips the page to portrait, one at a time.
Doesn't matter what printer is used.
Also, once printed, if I immediate open the print dialog again, same printer and everything, once again it has landscape.
There seems to be no memory whatsoever for orientation (other settings, like resolution, are maintained during the run on PSE, but are always lost when PSE is closed). Again, in particular, orientation for every page, individually, on each print attempt, is always set to landscape, no matter that the document is not in that orientation.
Is there even a way to specify document orientation? Is there something PSE does to attempt to determine orientation that might be wrong? Can I make PSE remember printer settings, or at least use the system defaults for the printer?

Tried that (remember, I have PSE8, and the post you referred to is PSE11).
Anyway, started app, used ctrl-alt-shift, held down while clicking organize. Waited for organizer to start. Then started PSE, loaded last file, clicked on print.
    Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd....
Preview is still in landscape mode.
So nope, no benefit. In fact, I can open the print dialog, change to portrait (and the preview does change), close it, reopen it immediate... landscape again.
So, I figured out that in addition to PSE 8, I still also had PSE 7 installed. I'd assumed that installing 8 would upgrade, or uninstall, the prior version, but both are there. So I uninstalled 7.
I noticed that the 7.0 settings directory, well hidden under AppData, still existed, and had several DAT and a settings file, which I moved elsewhere, with no change.
So I did find wher 8.0 keeps its preferences:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Editor
File is Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 Prefs.psp
This is an encoded file, so it can't be directly edited. I renamed the extension so the program wouldn't find it, and fired up the editor. Predictably, a new prefs file was created, and was smaller than the original (166KB vs 176KB). So one would guess this contains default settings.
I then tried the same print experiment. Sadly, absolutely every symptom was identical.
So here's what I think is really happening. This has nothing to do with settings or printers. I think PSE tries to guess the orientation from the size of the page/image/whatever. I created these pages from scanned images, and they are not EXACTLY a standard size. They are clearly portrait (size is 8.25" by 10.667" - very, very close to the 8.5 x 11 standard page size, and very, very obviously portrait).
To test the theory, I resized the first page of the 6 page document to exactly 8.5 x 11 inches. (But note: the proportions I had were identical to the proportions of 8.5 x 11). But no joy - still portrait when printing. I verified the printers themselves had system defaults for portrait, which they did.
Now my theory was that the print orientation had been set when I created the document at not-quite-exactly 8.5x11.

  • 10.8 Printer Orientation Problem (Landscape and Portrait)

I recently upgraded from 10.6 to 10.8 and am using a DS40 Dye Sub printer for event green screen photography.  The software is Photokey 5 pro.  The printer orientation worked fine with 10.6 providing landscape orientation prints perfectly.  With 10.8 I have to select the opposite orientation i.e. select portrait to obtain a correctly printed landscape orientated print and vice versa.  I then try to save the orientation, even though it is opposite as a preset so that I don't have to keep changing it for each print, and it won't save. It keep defaulting back to landscape and producing a portrait print.
Any help would be appreciated.  Like I said I can live with an opposite orientation work around, however, if it won't save it is very time consuming to have to make the change for each print especially at an event where I am printing 100's of photos.
    Thank you!!!
    Meyer

    Matt,
DNP corporation just released the driver for 10.8.  I have been waiting for months.  The driver for 10.6 worked fine on my friends mac book unfortunately I had already updated to 10.8 and had to wait for the printer driver release. I have wasted more paper trying every possible configuration both for the printer driver in Photokey 5 pro page setup.  Very frustrating when it everything worked fine prior to 10.8.  Any thoughts?

How do you change print orientation for Iphoto 9.5?

I have turned the picture and it doesn't work.
I'm trying to print in landscape mode but Iphoto 9.5 default orientation is portrait and provides no ability to change orientation to landscape
The orientation option is missing from the print preview screen.

  • Photoshop CS4 & CS5: Fullscreen + Taskbar ?

    Hi all!
Does anyone find a solution for the bug (for me it is) in Photoshop CS4 & CS5 - in Fullscreen mode the taskbar is no visible (MS Windows)?
In case someone from Adobe read this - COM'ON PEOPLE!!! IS NOT SO HARD TO FIX THIS!!! ADD A SIMPLE CHECK BOX IN OPTIONS, FOR USERS THAT NEEEEEED THEIR TASKBAR IN FULLSCREEN! how many complains do you need to fix this!?? Think again... a lot of people are stuck to CS3 just for this problem!
    Best Regards,
    Angry CS3 user, dreaming for CS4 & CS5 Photoshop
PS: @ admins -> please, move this to Photoshop -> Windows! It'll be more correct!

Gee, thanks a pantload, Dr Misfit, assuming you're talking about my suggestion to use Photoshop in a Restored window (i.e., in a window not occupying the full screen).
Oh, and you're also welcome for the link I provided to a tool that forces the Windows 7 Taskbar to be on top.
The *only* downside to using Photoshop in Restored view that's been identified, and I agree that it's not pleasant, is that in Restored view and using Tabs you're prevented from panning an image around to where you want it if it fits entirely within the window.  So instead of working in the center of your screen you might have to work offset toward the corner.  Aw.  Now THAT's what I call a Big Deal compared to missing those all important Skype calls from your girlfriend.
I'm not against you working the way you want - it'd be just peachy if it worked just the way you like - but I'm here to tell you it's really, really not going to get changed in the current version just for you and the other three people on the planet who are for some reason jumping up and down about it.  Adobe ain't Burger King.  But someone who actually DID know something about Adobe and Photoshop would already know that.
You want to see the Taskbar now, work in Restored view.  Simple as that.  Get over it.
And have a little more respect for the people who try to help you for no reward other than the satisfaction of having helped someone.
