PS CS4 Extended: Default texture aspect ratio on standard shapes

Hi,
I want to design a cover for the default soft drink can 3D model. I create a 3D layer from a 2D standard layer. However I cannot find out the aspect ratio for the standard texture applied to the can's surface in order to be able to produce a cover without any distortions. Where can I find this information OR the default textures?
Thanks. I am desperate finding an answer... :(

The distortion information should come from whomever is in charge of printing the cans.

  • Which aspect ratio do you recommend?

I'm making a dvd of old family movies from the 70's. The dvd will be played on new flat screen tv's but I'm confused if I should do standard ratio or widescreen? I would normally do widescreen but was concerned that might affect the video quality?
My question is should I change the aspect ratio to standard to have better quality video since the movie are converted from old movie reels or does that not matter and just stick with widescreen since the tv's can handle widescreen?
    Thanks for the help.

    It depends.
The basic connection type uses the jdbc thin (type 4) driver. This means that you don't need oracle client software installed - all you need is SQLDeveloper. The down side is that the thin driver doesn't support all the available features. Things like operating system authentication, fast connection failover, and some of the more complex data types are not supported.
The TNS connection type uses the OCI driver. This means that you must have an oracle client installed (and it must match the version of the jdbc driver provided with SQLDeveloper.) This lets you use more features.
I always use Basic connections, but I don't need any of the missing features.

  • Everytime I open itunes the cover flow size returns to default. How Can I lock the aspect ratio?

Whenever I shut down my computer and restart it, the aspect ratio of the images in itunes coverflow reset to their default size. How can I keep them where I set them.

I have an issue somewhat like that, except it doesn't happen when I shut down or restart my computer. Mine resets each time I click the green resize button (using an iMac) to minimize iTunes to the mini player. Oddly enough, if I resize the cover flow, switch to a different view (ie. library without cover flow) and then hit the resize button to switch to mini player, upon maximizing iTunes again, I can switch back to the cover flow and it will have stayed the same size. Obviously I'm not going to go through that process each time I want to minimize iTunes to mini player, but when I simply minimize it when in cover flow view, as you mentioned in your post, it resets the aspect ratio each time. Clearly this isn't a massive issue as I'm still able to use all the other functions of iTunes perfectly fine, but I have to admit it is very annoying and has been persistent for the last few hours. Please if you've found a fix let me know, however I noticed you are using Windows 7 so we likely have two completely different issues.

  • Unwanted default to 'constrain aspect ratio' of crops

    Lightroom 2.6 Mac.
Recently I've been annoyed that when I come to crop images the program defaults to 'constrain aspect ratio' which I don't usually want. It's easy enough to press the 'a' key toggle to unset this but when I come to crop the next image it usually (but not always) resets to constrain again.
This is a new problem and I can't think of any obvious reason or way to fix it. Any ideas?

In the develop module, I made sure the constrain aspect ratio was unlocked and then double-clicked on the words next to the lock to get the menu of choices, I chose "original" which has kept the crop free to choose crops with no constraint.

  • Allow Aspect Ratio Save as Default or Preset

Requesting feature; aspect ratios can be saved as camera default or as a develop preset.

    Hello,
What do you have under favorites? Are there some old network shares that the computer tries to access? Do you have any other this kind of objects on your desktop or in other libraries.
you could try to download "Wireshark" OR "network monitor" start log and capture events of whats happening on your network when you press the save as... button. This could give you a clue of WHERE the computer is trying to connect when pressing the button.
If you logon using different account do you still get slow response on "save as..."
BTW. Do you also get slow response when you press "Open" on the file menu?

  • Aspect Ratio Issues in CS4 -- no real 16:9 / 4:3? Need Help.

    Hi,
    i´m a little bit confused.
When we work in PAL Land -> 1024x576 is 16:9 Pixel Ratio 1:1 and 768x576 is 4:3 Pixel Ratio 1:1. In CS3 we have 720x576 with 16:9 Pixel Ratio 1:1,422 so 1,422x720=1024 so correct 16:9 and with 4:3 Pixel Ratio 1:1,067 so 1,067x720=768 so correct 4:3.
    Now there is CS4:
Pixelratio changed for 16:9 it is 1,4587 and for 4:3 it is 1,0940. OK Maybe now we go with 702x576. BUT: The Resolution for DVD PAL Export is still fixed 720x576. NO 702x576 is possible!. So what the Hell is going on here? If i Export any Video in 16:9 PAL DVD i get 720x576 with 1,4587 so the result is a Video which is to wide with black borders (left&right side).
    Any Ideas appreciate .
    -nick

    a) PAL in digital format, for example on Digital Beta, is aspect ratio 4:3, and 720x576. The sync lines from in the captured Digibeta have to be cropped.
    b) PAL digital format aspect ratio 16.9 (widesrceen), for example when capturing from DigiBeta cassette, is also 720x576 but anamorph.
    c) PAL 4:3 transcoded to square pixel format for computer use, for example as VP6 flash, or H.264 format is 768x576, aspect ration 4:3.
    e) 720x576 Pixel-AR 12:11 normal, 16:11 anamorph, transcoded to square pixel, e.g. VP6 flash, H.264 etc. is 1024x576 real (not anamorph)
    d) 704x576 Pixel-AR 12:11 normal, 16:11 anamorph is the analogue TV-Signal without overscan. If you receive a video like that you have to re-render it to 720x576 anamorph, or using a workstation which can interprete this footage. As far as I know, Premiere has no problem interpreting this footage, however, for example EncoreDVD will refuse to interprete it, but also other authoring application accept 704 video and the DVD plays the corrcet aspect ratio, but when demultiplexed it is still 704.

  • CS4 aspect ratios

I've read the AE CS4 Help, I've watched Chris Meyer's video on lynda.com, and I have questions about the new aspect ratios issue.
Like many, I like to design in a square pixel environment. Let's say I want to create an image with a perfect circle in Photoshop, bring that into AE, then output it. Before, I would have created a 720x540 square pixel image in Photoshop, made my circle, imported that into AE, put it into a 720x540 square pixel comp, done whatever I was going to do in AE, then dragged that comp into an NTSC DV comp (720x480, non-square pixels), hit Command-Option-F to size my nested comp to the new one, and then output the new comp. Would this NOT result in a perfectly round circle on TV?
Should I instead have followed the above process, but substituted "534" for "540" in Photoshop and AE? Would THAT ultimately have resulted in a perfectly round circle on TV?
    Thanks --
    Galen

You're over thinking. It makes no difference what the PAR settings are in your comp as long as the footage is interpreted correctly. If you stick with square pixels in Photoshop and AE interprets the footage as square pixels then no matter what kind of comp you insert the image in, the circle will not be distorted. You can check this by rotating the circle. If it does not wobble then it's round.
What this means is that you can drag any square pixel image or comp into a DV (720X480) normal or widescreen comp and it will be round. Where you are going wrong is using the fit command. This is a dangerous option because it scales X and Y differently distorting the image. Unless you intentionally want to distort an image the X and Y scale values must be identical.
If you want to make your 720 X 540 square pixel image or comp fill a 720 X 480 frame then you'll have to use the fit horizontally shortcut. That is Cmnd/Ctrl + Alt/Option + h so that the X and Y values are identical.
If you're doing this with video then you must have separated fields or you must shift the image down 1 pixel to avoid field reversal.
Again, AE, CS3 and CS4 will perfectly blend, mix, and combine footage and comps with any pixel aspect ratio without distortion as long as you properly interpret the footage. AE will assume that footage created at standard non square pixel frame sizes like 720 X 480 is rectangular pixels. If you did not specifically create or render your images to this size with non-square pixels then AE is going to be wrong and you'll have to change the PAR to square pixels.
If you're having problems the first thing to check is the X and Y scale values. They must be equal.

  • Aspect ratio changes in PPro CS4

    Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
When I export a project to a final video, the aspect ratio changes at different points in the video for no apparent reason.  These videos are typically under 10 minutes in length.  I use the same camera without changing any settings for every project and capture to PPro CS4 using the same settings for every project and using the same hardware.  And yet, I end up with different aspect ratios across a single video.  I have no idea why.  Some of my output clips have never had any titles, special effects, imported clips, or anything else that I think might cause a change in aspect ratio.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Thanks, Stan.
I just posted a draft video on Youtube for a client last night.  Not sure if viewing a clip of what I see will help you but I suspect it will.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_hzhCeCGR0
If you go to about 4:34 in the clip you'll see it change over to a different aspect ratio.
This sequence was exported directly from PPro CS4 to FLV.  The FLV file was uploaded to Youtube.
I'm editing this morning and just came across this same issue again.
I'm amazed that none of my clients have mentioned it yet.  Of course, I'm not making Hollywood movies - these are just short videos people send out to college coaches.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Aspect ratio of selection tools locked in CS4

Suddenly, all tools that produce a marquee during dragging are locked to a 1-1 aspect ratio, as though the shift key were depressed. For example, with the rectangular selection tool, a square marquee is displayed during dragging. However, when I let the mouse button up, the selected rectangle is not square, but has corners at the start and end points of the drag. If I depress the shift key before releasing the mouse button, I get the square selection corresponding to the displayed marquee.
This behaviour affects all selection tools that display a rectangle-bounded marquee (rectangle, ellipse, crop), as well as drawing tools. Similarly, transformation tools such as scale and transform also act as though the shift key were depressed during dragging, but, when the mouse button is released, produce a result which one would expect if the shift key had not been depressed (unless it is depressed as the mouse is button is released).
Any help to resolve this would be most appreciated!

I've been having the same problem. I had it occasionally with Photoshop CS3 and I've recently upgraded to CS5 and it just occurred again. I would love to figure out why this happens.

  • CS4 changing aspect ratio, resizing video

    Hello,
I've been working on a project at school for some time and am just now getting to the editing factor. My issue is about half way through editing it seems that its changed the aspect ratio from wide screen to a more standard ratio. I have it set to scale to the frame size. Just to clear a few things up they were all captured the same, all the original quicktime files are the same it's just once I import them into premiere that I start having issues. I really appreciate it, thanks

After uploading it to youtube the size gets so small you can hardly see it. My main goal with this thread is to get the video to actually scale to the frame.

  • Change default 4:3 aspect ratio?

I want to upload some photos to the Shutterstock critique forum. I need to upload a 100% crop. According to the instructions I need to change the width and height to 500 X 500 however iPhoto won't let me override the 4:3 aspect ratio. Is there a way to do this? Thanks

    Yes it will.
When you click on the Crop button untick the Constrain box or select 'Square'

  • How to set aspect ratio options for Image Dialog

I have a requiment to create a new Aspect Ratio for image crop, besides the only default option of Free Crop
I understand that there was some path where you could set this up in CRX, prior to 5.5, but that path doesn't exist in 5.5. The path was /libs/cq/packaging/components/pack/definition/dialog/items/tabs/item s/tab3/cropConfig
I found this out from this forum question:http://forums.adobe.com/message/4575600#4575600
Where in CQ5.5 Can I set these aspect ratios? I've queried the entire CRX for nodes of similar names as in this path, but cannot find it anywhere.
    Thanks guys!

    Hi,
I have the same problem using CQ 5.6.1. I want to extend the default Ratios:
I found out that this config is located under /libs/dam/gui/content/assets/crop/items/actionbarcontainer/items/default/items/aspectrati o/items.
My question is were and how can I put an extension to these predefined ratios if I don't want to edit them under the libs node.
    Thanks, Andreas

  • Mac pro aspect ratio of main screen is wrong

    Hello,
Done something I had to do ages ago, just upgraded from 10.6 to 10.9.2. All went perfectly well but for two little (hope little) problems
    1. The aspect ratio of my main screen is not correct, it sretches over the vertical direction. Impossible to do graphical work like this.
    2. If I drag window to another screen the movement is not fluent as it used to be + a window can not be split over two screens which could be done before too.
For the rest all seems to be perfectly nice and clean.
    Hope somebody has ideas

With the System preferences > Displays pane open, hold down the Option key for more Resolutions and more Options.
This un-Mac-like hack has been allowed to creep in, and the Mac Human Interface Police have not dealt with the perpetrators ... yet.
10.9 Mavericks changes the way displays are treated, and the new default is that each display is an independent workspace. This can be put back to the "correct" Extended desktop way.
Windows in Mavericks reside in a single space by default, so they usually don't span multiple displays. When a window is dragged between displays, it appears translucent on one of the displays to indicate this. After you are done dragging the window, it snaps to one display.
If you need an app window to span multiple displays, deselect the option "Displays have separate Spaces" in the Mission Control pane of System Preferences.

  • Aspect ratio when exporting to DVD

Newbie - forgive me but have been struggling with this one for days.
Have a project - 5 min film - in FCP X and really struggling to export it to DVD using the share command - it will copy fine but the original is in 1920 x 1080 and the DVD share option automatically selects to burn at 720 x 576.  Inevitably the output is skewed and the altered ratio means that there is lost image around the edges.
I need to have this project outputted onto DVD.
I have tried exporting via the Blue Ray option and using the DVD disc option instead of the 'Hard Drive (Blu Ray)' option under Settings/Output Device but although this process seemed successful the DVD would not play on either a DVD player or Blu Ray Player.
Is there any way of exporting direct to DVD in 1920 x 1080 or similar locked aspect ratio (eg 1280 x 720 etc) or of altering the default output setting for DVD sharing?
I don't have compressor, I don't have DVD or Blu Ray burner software and surely FCP X can do this?
I have altered the format of the original file into various aspect ratios but irrespective, the output ratio is always the same incorrect ratio of 720 x 576.
In anticipation of your help, thank you and please keep your answers in plain language - am new to FCP X and macs!
    Thank you
    LizW

Taht's really puzzzling. Could you export a short section of your video as a Master File and open in QuickTime – and post a screen shot of the Movie Inspector Report?
Here are some screen shots of a 1080 PAL video. I have chosen a slide show with 3:2 images to emphasize the circle shape and the rectangle that extends to nearly the width of the frame.
I then export as Share>DVD. Note the 720X576 frame size bottom left.
Here, I have opened the VOB file after export in VLC (DVD PLayer will not support a screen shot).
As you can see the circle shape is not distorted (so the anamorphic data was read correctly). Nor is anything cropped in display – since the entire rectangle is shown and the width of the black bars is unchanged.

  • Disable Pixel Aspect Ratio in CS2

On this site and other I've found info on this but nothing that's worked. I simply want to DISABLE the automatic Pixel Aspect Ratio preview adjustment so that when a file opens it works just like it did in Photoshop 7, it just opens.
When I open the images with which I'm dealing (nearly 10,000!) Photoshop displays it's dialog "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview only and should be turned off for maximum image quality" yet I'm unable to find a way to disable this so that my operator's don't have to turn that off with every image!
On a couple of other sites I've found references (for CS and CS4) to deleting the preferences file "which will cause Adobe CS to re-create the preferences; therefore you can then choose NOT to correct the pixel aspect ratio for your images." But Photoshop simply rebuilds the preferences file and everything works the same way, I still don't see anywhere to disable it.
Seems amazing that there is no way to disable this. True?
    Thanks for the help,
    Ken

Well, I have to admit to "devolving" back to 7 after twice looking into this so I can't speak to the file size after making the aspect ratio square. I also did just a quick look at CS3 and didn't readily see any way of disabling it.
My biggest gripe is that if it can be done manually on a menu setting I would think it wouldn't be all that difficult to make it a setting that would work something like the color profiles, where you tell it not to bother with it at all. Being somewhat of a programmer myself I can understand (a little) what Adobe must be up against managing the code it must take to produce something like Photoshop and on top of that trying to satisfy a world (literally) of users. I'm pretty sure they did this due to the growing number of people working with video, but to outright make it the default after so long not bothering with it at all seems a little off base. Then again, maybe that's just in my little world. This isn't, however, the first time across Adobe's programs that I've said "why the heck would they make that the default!" Acrobat is my favorite for that.
    Best of luck.
