PS CS4 - photomerge

I tried 4 times consequently to stitch 4 images in Photomerge activated from Bridge - with same settings (auto and defaults i.e. blending images on, vignette removal off, distortion correction off). I was surprised of the result because each time I tried PS generated different panorama. Just to make sure I thoroughly checked if the stitch settings were really the same - they were... Am I missing something essential?

PhotoMerge appears to have been broken in the move to CS4.
Whilst I am glad that PhotoMerge in CS4 is working for SOME, on my two main, quite different, XPP/3 systems (one with supported 3D card, one without) I have been unable to get CS4 to create ANY panoramas.
In CS4, as shipped in the 'Master Collection', attempting to merge only two images that, on the same systems [right now, TODAY!] are merged by CS3 (and ptGUI, and APP) results only in a series of processing msgs during which a file named something like "unnamed_panorama1" appears as a tab. When processing stops, that tab vanishes. Sadly, no trace of this file is seen in the recent file list, nor anywhere on the hard-drive.
Yes, Default Photomerge entries are being used (as well as all possible combinations of geo-correct, vig-removal, various projections etc).
Repeating this merge attempt with 'tab view' disabled results in the same sequence (only the evanescent image is a free floating one).
Initially, my thought was that this was because I had not yet 'activated' CS4. Sadly, 'activation' produced no change: Images are energetically being processed, but the final result disappears.
Copying the 'manually align' option from CS3 into CS4 results, at the end of various processing messages, in an ErrMsg popping up saying that "CS4 was unable to automatically align 'some' images.
Um, there were only two images, and was not the point of selecting 'manually align' images to MANUALLY align images?
CS4 then displays a completely transparent "untitled_Panorama1" image and LOCKS.
Random clicking on the interface produced a "This program has ..." error (I saved the error dump, if anyone from Adobe is interested) and died.
To re-iterate, I have yet to be able to create the simplest two-image panorama with CS4 on two, quite different, XPP/3 systems.
This failure is with images that CS3 has no trouble with on these same systems, at the same time as CS4 fails.
Something is clearly wrong here.

  • Issue sending Leica M9 DNGs to CS4 Photomerge

I've just attempted to send two M9 DNGs to CS4 photomerge and was asked to install Camera Raw 5.6.1 - otherwise there was a risk the program wouldn't run.  True enough - it crashed.
My problem is that I can't find Camera Raw 5.6.1 anywhere.  Is anyone able to help?
    Thanks
    C:

Thanks for your message - this is the error message.  I have 5.6 installed...
One thing that's interesting is that it shows how little I'm using Photoshop these days - Lightroom 2 does pretty well everything I need (and the print module in LR3 beta actually works!)
Still - I do want to make this panorama without having to export TIFFs, and I will need to edit Leica DNGs in CS4, so I hope someone at Adobe can advise...

  • Photoshop cs4 photomerge causes application crash

When I try to use the photomerge tool from photoshop cs4, under file->automate->photomerge, before the box appears which allows you to select the photos to use, an alert box appears saying that photoshop has stopped working, and then the application force closes.
I tried uninstalling, and then using the CC cleaner tool, then reinstalling, but I still have the same problem.
I installed it on a windows 8.1 x86-64 machine with 16GB ram.  Both the 32 bit and 64 bit photoshop applications have the same failure.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?  I haven't been able to find anyone else who has this issue.

I can't find the new thread, and I assume there is no solution yet, so I'm replying here...
I can say that I have an Alienware 18 with switchable graphics - low power, built-in Intel HD-4600, or twin nVidia 770M cards - and when running in the Intel graphics mode, photomerge works every time, but recently (AFAIK) when running the nVidia graphics mode (in single mode at least - I will try dual/SLI later), I can say photomerge crashes every time.
I'm fairly sure my PC used to to do photomerge running in nVidia mode, so it maybe the latest, or recent driver, causing the problem; I'm running drivers contained in "340.52-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe" on windows 8.1 64-bit.
My suggestion therefore is to try older drivers with nVidia cards, at least to get some data about what works/doesn't work and report it to nVidia. Even though the root cause could be in Abode software (nVidia may have tightened up on some issue that conceivably manifests an Abode bug), I'd bet money Abode no longer care about supporting you if, like me, you are running old CS4, paid for at great cost - they will likely just say buy an upgrade to the latest s/w (which may or may not work)!
    Cheers

  • Photoshop CS4 Photomerge doesn't work under windows 8.1

    Hello!
I have Photoshop CS4. Whereas it worked very well under Windows XP SP 3, I have a problem using it under Windows 8.1.
Photomerge doesn't work. As soon as I click on it, It shuts down Photoshop.
I have a trial version of Photoshop CS 5 and photomerge works well in this version.
I tried to solve the problem through Windows but it didn't work.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi @inetdude
Since there is no full feature software and driver for 8 or 8.1, I am not sure what else to suggest other than for you to reach out to Microsoft. The driver you are using is an in-OS driver, perhaps they can help you.

  • Lightroom and CS4 photomerge integration problem

I've tried using the photomerge integration feature from lightroom 2.0 but seem unable to get it to work when the files to be merged do not reside on the main hard drive.
Lightroom seems to pass the information to CS4 correctly as I get the initial photomerge dialog in CS4 with the correct list of files. When I click 'OK' nothing happens.
I've done some experimenting and when the files to be merged are located on the main hard drive, it works fine.
I don't know if it makes a difference but the files are Canon RAW files.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it aside from moving the files?

  • CS4 Photomerge problem

I'm having trouble stitching photos together in CS4.  I've been searching for an answer online but all the problems I've encountered are different than mine.  I am stitching together photos from microscopic flourescence images.  I am trying to get a single image of the entire specimen but every time I try photomerge it leaves one of the images in the corner.  It does a great job of adding all of the other images together but every time it refuses to add the last image (it could be the first, the point is that it is an image on one of the ends).  I've tried this with several different sets of photos from my microscope and I always encounter this problem.
    Thank you for your help.

It could be that the microscope lens has some distortion (pincushion or barrell) that throws alignment off. I don't know how you could test for (or correct) that in a microscope.
There is one way to "trick" photomerge (or auto-align, which I use mostly, but it's the same thing) into accepting images it otherwise wouldn't. Crop the adjacent image to include only the overlap, do the photomerge on those two and then put the resulting "aligned" image in with the rest. Nudge into place.
You could even do it as a two-step process, splitting the problem image into two, first the overlapping part and then the non-overlapping.
Make sure to lock the base (cropped) image so it doesn't get transformed.

  • CS4 Photomerge doesn't work

Photomerge doesn't work for me when I am trying to run it from Bridge or from Photoshop. Photoshop stitches the images but when the process is done the document closes, resulting in no image.
The same issue has been discussed in this thread, but no solution was provided:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b830ed
Purging the selection / folder cache in Bridge prior to merging doesn't help.
Resetting the PS preferences solves the problem but only temporarily. The issue appears again when you try to make up another panorama.
At first I tried it on 4 RAW shots. Then on another set of 6 RAW shots. No luck.

Here are some more things I can think of to try experimenting with in case you find a combination that works. The main idea is that there is a resource issue that Photoshop is not gracefully handling.
Does it even work if you stitch a couple tiny images, and then what is the number or size of images where it starts to fail consistently, and then can you vary things related to resources where it starts to work with a larger set of images that used to fail, before?
Try changing the amount of memory available to Photoshop in Preferences, where smaller seems like the direction you can go from what you've posted.
Try changing your scratch disk to another drive, perhaps even the program drive and/or the system-boot drive. It's unlikely it's running out of 1TB but maybe something about that particular HD is causing a problem.
Watch the amount of memory used by Photoshop in TaskManager and see if it fails when the amount of memory used passes a certain threshhold. Select both Commit Size and Working Set as types of memory to track in the process view, and also watch the total memory used by the system in the Performance tab.
If there is a BIOS setting when you boot your computer for how much memory your video card uses try changing it.
The memory size being a multple of 3GB seems like an uncommon amount. Maybe take one memory chip out so it is a multiple of 2GB. Only do this if you are comfortable mucking around with your hardware and use proper static-reduction techniques, etc.
Try reducing and expanding the number of history states Photoshop keeps track of using Preferences.
You don't say anything about OpenGL settings, so I assume your card doesn't support it? If it does, try turning it off or try turning it on if it's off but can be used.

  • CS4 Photomerge Won't Align Images Correctly

I've used PS CS4 successfully several times to create panoramic images. I decided to re-do a panorama that I had created with an older version a few years ago, but CS4 won't align the images correctly. It keeps trying to make the horizon into a wavey line. It also is not giving me the option of adjusting its results. Is there anything I could do to fix this?

You probably don't want to hear this, but Photoshop CS5 apparently has improved horizon handling over CS4.  I've noticed the horizons in my panos are coming out better with CS5.
That said, have you tried "Cylindrical" mode instead of "Automatic"?

  • CS4 Photomerge allignment problem

I am trying to merge a tripod-shot pano with a long straight horizon in CS4 (mac). When I stitch, no matter what layout option I use, the horizon has steps where the frames are stitched and is otherwise somewhat bendy, not straight.
I used seven shots from a wide (24mm, 1.6 crop) lens in vertical format (canon 24-70L on a 20D).  I am sending the images to PS from lightroom. They are tiffs, fused exposures  from Photomatix.
I tried nudging the layers to allignment, but that opened up the seams. I tried correcting distortion and not. I would like a nice straight horizon, or at least gently, but smoothly curved.
I don't think you'll be able to see the defects here, but zoomed in they are clearly apparent. Little steps where the horizon is misaligned. Thanks for taking a look.
    Luke

I suppose this may be a case where the overlap (even though you may have shot with plenty overlap) does not provide enough detail for perfect alignment, as the water surface is pretty problematic in that regard.
You may just have to manually correct; if You turn Blend Images Together off you don’t get the masks, but also no sharply masked color-corrections.

  • CS4 photomerge cannot align my images- period...

I have downloaded the plug-ins and reset my preferences.  Still: the message "some images cannot be aligned" and no suggestion on how to fix the problem.  I have always successfully used CS3 toi merge edited tif files.  Any other ideas except to reload CS3

    Hi
Can you explain a little further what these plugins do? I guess the key here is Photomerge UI. I have CS5, and I sometimes miss the interactive alignment feature of the Photomerge from Elements. Interactive alignment is not possible via the Photomerge feature of CS5, although it is possible to move pictures around and auto-blend them. Would installing the Photomerge UI to my CS5 restore the interactive alignment feature of the Photomerge I had in Elements?
    Best regards,
    Antero

  • Photomerge failure in CS4 (windowsXP)

The Photomerge process fails on my PC: three images are offered to the proccess (I have tried them in jpg,tif and dng) and the merging work starts OK then, without error message, drops out.
Control seems to be returned to the user OK and photoshop just waits for the next requirement to be started. CS4 does not recognise the errror and does not produce any result or error message.
I have registered a query with CS4 and have been issued with tracking number - but the first reply starts with "we understand photoshop crashes" which is not the case, it merely stops working on a proccess without error message so I wait for further advice.
It is clearly particular to my PC - the three images were given to a collegue and were stiched in the normal way.
    Any ideas?

I'm astonished at the idea reducing memory percentage photoshop takes will help, I would have thought it might be the other way! However grateful for the idea and interest.
I backed down to 55% but after a short bit of work "aligning layers" the process stops as before, but still gracefully - says nothing but leaves CS4 still running OK and can be used for other tasks.
It may be worth commenting that when I first encountered the problem it got much further into the process before retireing without comment. I found the Windows swap file was limited to the "C" disk, and as I had a "D" I changed it to make use of the additional HD on the assumption performance would improve - it did too. But why should that change influence the CS4 photomerge failure? The mind boggles.

  • Image automatically changing resolution with HDR and Photomerge in CS4

I am trying to create Hi Res Panoramas and HDR images using Photoshop CS4. It seems that the resulting image is a much lower resolution than I expected (ie the image has been downsized by 50% and changed to 240 dpi). I can do the smame thing on my laptop with no problem but can't figure out why it will not work on my desktop.
Is there a preference that I have missed?

  • Photomerge Scene Cleaner in PS CS4

Is there a way to get at the Photomerge Scene Cleaner functionality that is in Photoshop Elements via full Photoshop CS4?
I can't figure it out, and it's exactly what I need for this set of images I'm working with.
    Thanks.

    See a video tutorial here:

I vaguely recall CS4 Extended might have a more automated Scene Cleaner feature but others who have that version will need to confirm.

Hier eine Stellungnahme des Autors von PTBSync. (www.netcult.ch/elmue)

  • Photomerge Not Working in CS4

So Photomerge has decided it doesn't want to work anymore.  I've seen a fair number of issues in other forums with no solutions offered as of yet; I'm hoping somebody has come up with something.
When I open CS4 and go to "Automate" then click on "Photomerge", I get the unwanted pop-up box proclaiming CS4 has quit working followed by another pop-up box stating that Windows is looking for a solution to the problem.  But of course they never offer one.  I'm not the most tech savvy individual but if somebody has an idea how to fix this, please let me know.  The merge to HDR option still functions and I truly don't know what to do at this point and have some great panoramic scenes to stitch together.

Is it fair to assume that prior to choosing Automate > Photomerge you opened the files, and after choosing Photomerge you chose Add Open Files...or did you skip a step?
