PS CS4 - Vertical Poster Image Appears Square - Why?

I just installed CS4 on Monday. I've been working with Photoshop 7.
I work in a theatre and create a lot of vertical images -- posters, brochures, etc. They all appear square when I open them.
In the View menu, there is not a checkmark next to Pixel Aspect Ratio, and Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction is grayed out.
Under Pixel Aspect Ratio, Square is checked, but I am not able to uncheck it without selecting something else.
Under Advanced, the Pixel Aspect Ratio is set to Square Pixels.
Per the moderator at the Adobe Help forum, I tried deleting the preference files by holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift just after starting Photoshop. No change.

I'm a total newby at this CS4 software. Please help if you can!

Check your hardware acceleration options in the performance section of the prefs. Turn off hardware accel. Quite possible, that it distorts the texture buffer due to a misconfiguration in your graphics card's driver. In the medium run, rectify it by experimenting with the driver settings. and of course follow the others' advise....

Some of my website images with embeded links only show the link with firefox, with IE8 the image appears correctly, why does this happen

If you look at the page source then you will notice that there are some errors with (missing) closing tags.<br />
Such errors shows as RED text.<br />
You need to correct at least all codes marked as red text.
The first <a> tag isn't closed here and you open a second <a>

Poster image does not appear in IE

I am having another problem with the poster image feature. In IE7 & 8, the poster image does not appear at all when the player is first loaded. If the page is cached and loaded, the poster image appears fine.
I think this is a bug, but can anyone confirm seeing this or fixing it?

According to the javadoc:
getImage
public Image getImage(URL url,
String name)Returns an Image object that can then be painted on the screen. The url argument must specify an absolute URL. The name argument is a specifier that is relative to the url argument.
This method always returns immediately, whether or not the image exists. When this applet attempts to draw the image on the screen, the data will be loaded. The graphics primitives that draw the image will incrementally paint on the screen.
Parameters:
url - an absolute URL giving the base location of the image.
name - the location of the image, relative to the url argument.
Returns:
the image at the specified URL.
I am confused as to how to use the name after the url.
Should it read something like:
bugimg = getImage("http://g.jtrusty.com/JavaApplet/", "LadyBug.gif");
EDIT: I still get the same error, cannot find symbol at getImage.

Quictime poster image flickers, dissappears

Hi,
My client has asked me to see if I can find a solution to the problem he is having. I don't have a mac so I can't replicate the problem but he was pretty specific on what his happening and the versions of his software.
He has a desktop Mac, PPC, non intel top of the line about 5 years ago.
He is running Mac OS 10.5.8, firefox 3.5.7 and quicktime 7.6.4, these all appear to be the most recent version.
What is happening is that when he opens a page with a quicktime movie, the poster image appears briefly and is then replaced by a white area. He can then click on the area and the movie begins. If he opens a new browser window with another quicktime movie, this second movie shows the poster image and works as expected.
Has anyone else had this type of problem?

Hi,
Try deleting this file from ~/Library/Preferences.
com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
Move that file to the Trash and restart the Mac.
~ refers to the Home Folder

Poster image does not return after playthrough

Before the example video was Cathi Kwon on http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp/ it had a guy explaining what Strobe was and then the assigned poster image came back. The new example is broken and I'm tearing my hair out trying to get the Adobe hosted Strobe to act correctly and give me the poster image after video playthrough.
PLEASE, someone look into this.

It doesn't work in IE. The poster image doesn't show, just black.
It says I am running Flash Player version WIN 10,1,53,64. Which is the same as what I am running on my mac. The Poster image appears fine on the same PC in FF, just not at all in IE on first load. Once everything is cached, the poster image works fine.

Video poster image disappears.

Hello.
I am having a wierd bug only in Safari. When I load my page and switch to another tab while it loads and then come back to it the images are missing.
I am using a <video> embed with an image poster image inside of it along with HTML5.

I would like to inform you that not all the browsers and online PDF readers support copying text from a PDF. If you have opened the PDF online, please download PDF file to your computer and then open the file in Adobe Reader.
Please share a screenshot if the issue still persists.

Placing Images in Illustrator CS4 causes them to appear 1/3 size

Whenever I try and place an image (whether it be simply placing an image or opening one) within Illustrator CS4 for Windows - for whatever reason, the images appear at about 1/3 the size they should be.
I go to View > Actual Size and it shows that the image is at 100% but it's obvious the images are nowhere near 100% (see attached ai.cs4.jpg). What could be causing this? I open up the same images (I know this because I am pulling from my desktop so I know I am pulling the same files to avoid confusion) in Fireworks CS4 and it pulls open correctly the right size, the same time - every time (see attached fw.cs4.jpg).
I'm really trying to come to grips with Illustrator, but this simple task is driving me nuts.
Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated -

For whatever reason, that image came through with a res of 240. Not sure how I did that but once I corrected it and tried placing it in Illustrator again - no problem.

Why does my high res photoshop image appear blurry when placed in InDesign and Exported as PDF?

I have a problem I've been trying to solve for days but just can't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
I have a large, good quality photoshop file (2268 x 979 pixels, resolution 300 pixels per inch). When I place it into InDesign, the image appears OK (I've changed my display settings to HIGH) - I then resize it in InDesign to 10% and the file still looks great! Then, when I export it as PDF (high quality print) it looks blurry.
Does anybody know why? The strangest thing is, I've placed other photoshop images in the same InDesign file and they look crystal clear. It is just this one I am having trouble with. I've saved it in the same folder as the other pictures, I've tried placing it as psd. , jpg. , photoshop pdf, png. everything...
The image looks great in both photoshop and indesign, only when exported as pdf it looks awful.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,

It's probably the extreme reduction -- you're throwing away 90% of the image pixels and interpolating, and then using jpeg compression on top.

Need to remove scrollbars that appear around downlevel poster image in IE

I have a responsive animation, so I have not played around with height and width dimensions. Both are set to 100%/auto. Overflow hidden or visible doesn't make a difference. Perhaps a '"scrollbars="no"' declaration somewhere, just don't know exactly where (not a javascript programmer)? I need to resolve this issue! Help please, anyone? Animation plays fine in all browsers with no scrollbars. It's only the downlevel poster image that has this issue.

The artwork has no printable border.
What you are seeing is the artboard bounds. You can prove it to yourself by printing the document (print to PDF if you don't want to waste paper) or by changing the artboard size via File | Document Setup.
The artwork does happen to have a rectangle that exactly coincides with the artboard size. It provides the taupish background. If you select it and look at the appearance palette, you'll see it has a fill but no stroke.

I guess you have things figured out but you do seem a bit confused - iPhoto and PhotoBooth are two totally different applications and iPhoto can not possibly import a mirrow image of a photo and PhotoBooth can not edit iPhoto photos

The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos. However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled. What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

We are all users here. You are not talking to apple on these forums. There is no way anyone here can know the decision making process apple uses to determine what changes to make to the operating system. Also none of use care about which phone you might buy next.
