PS CS5 Extended - post crop vignette in Camera Raw 6?

The post-crop vignette sliders don't seem to be under Lens Correction in this upgrade - can anyone tell me where they are please? Thank you.

You probably need ACR 6.1.  Check the Camera Raw forum.

  • Clarifying my question from last pm, re: how do I get LR to stop applying post-crop vignette at time of import to all my photos?

I work on a Mac, shoot in raw, and download directly to hard drive from my camera. I then import images into Lightroom using the "copy" function.  For some reason, Lightroom is systematically applying a post-crop vignette to my photos, I am unable to turn it off.  Happens regardless of lens I shoot with.  Can anyone advise how to change this?  I have tried re-setting the vignette to zero before importing, but that does nothing. Regards, Barb in Virginia

Go to Preferences and reset your Default Develop Settings if you want to reset for ALL cameras and file types.
If you want to reset the default for a single camera, in Develop you can hold the Alt key and the "reset" button will change to "set default".  The following dialog will appear.  Click "Restore adobe default settings"
You should then not have vignette being applied.

  • Req: Dynamic post-crop vignettes

So after asking around and doing many many reverse-engineering tests, I've come to the conclusion that the post-crop vignette is missing a couple basic functions that would make it a lot more useful.
Here's what led me down this road: I had an image that I had processed several weeks ago which included a PCV. Recently I wanted to print it as a gallery wrap. When the print is wrapped, you lose about one inch from every side to get around the wooden frame. So that means you either just lose part of the image, or you go back and add a margin, so you're only losing something you didn't really want anyway. I was luck in this case because I could recrop the image I had processed to add back some space around the area I wanted. Unfortunately, when you re-crop the PCV relative to the pixels in the image changes.
After all my testing, I realized there was absolutely no way to get the image I started but with a additional inch on all sides.
The issue can be resolved in either, or both, of two ways. The first way would be the simplest for the user. Simply offer a 'lock' option, which when enabled locks the PCV effect relative to the image, and as the user changes the crop, Lr adjusts the values dynamically. The second way would be to allow a more arbitrary range of values for the PCV settings (or more exact value scales). After my testing, I came to understand quite precisely how changes in the amount, midpoint, and feather values affect the effect in relation to the size and proportion of the image. I had charts and tables so I could accurately predict what values would be required to achieve a static effect when the crop dimensions change. That wasn't enough though; because of the limited range of values the PCV tool offers, the values I needed were simply unavailable. The issue is that even when amount/midpoint/feather are set to their most extreme vignetting values, they don't offer a way to affect the entire image.
    Take for example this situation:
    There's a 1000x1000 pixel image
It has been center-cropped down to 500x500 pixel
    The amount = -100, midpoint = 0, feather = 0
I know have a circular mask in the middle of my image whose diameter is just about 73% (about 362px) of the length of the images sides.
If I were to re-crop the image back to 1000x1000, there is no way to achieve that same vignette (a 362px radius circular mask). The values are already maxed out. I realize in this situation there would be a lot of completely dead space, and it would make sense to just crop the image down. But this is pretty simple math that, if the attribute values weren't so limited, would be easy to achieve, and would provide much more continuity within the PCV tool.
I feel like the best solution would be to redetermine the value scales; maybe this can be done behind the scenes to not destroy the integrity of the current-PCV-processed images. The amount value scale is fine as-is. The midpoint value should be reclassified as 'radius' and represent the furthest  distance from the center of the image that is unaffected by the vignette. The feather attribute should allow value entry in pixels; if it makes more sense in the Lr ecosystem to keep the default scale to be 0-100, that's fine, that can represent 0%-100% of whatever you want (image dimension, mask radius, etc), but since there's no size attribute to compare the percent too like in the brush tool, there needs to be a more exact method of defining the value. Roundness is the biggest culprit in this whole mess; it's trying to do too much with a single slider. The PCV tool should offer two options, round or square. Round should allow you to define how elliptical the mask is, ranging from perfect circle to maybe a 3:1 ratio of major to minor axes or whatever you want. Square should allow the user to define the radius of the corners of a rectangle with the same ratio as the crop.
The new system, while different, isn't any more complex than the current system, and would allow those who don't need precise control the same WYSIWYG experience, but allow for much more fine-tuned control when required.

    Chris,
I confess I did not read every word of this (sorry), still:
    - I like your idea of breaking the roundness into the two sliders: "general shape" and "corner shape" or something.
    - a work-around to lock vignette: re-export into lightroom - I do this all the time to lock PCV - mostly for applying another PCV over it...
(I realize you don't want to have to do this all the time, still its a possibility for a workaround for now - maybe you already thought of it...)

  • Where are post-crop vignetting controls in ACR 6.7

Post crop vignetting was added into an earlier version of ACR (in CS4), but this function does not appear under Lens Corrections in my version of ACR 6.7. Where are these controls now?

Under fx, at least in 7.1.

  • Lightroom 4 Post-Crop Vignetting.

    Hello,
    I have lightroom 4 on a Mac.
In Develop mode > Effects > Post-Crop Vignetting the Highlights slider is greyed out.
I have tried different priorities , all positions of the sliders.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello Victoria,
That is the answer, a negative value.
I moved all of the sliders but did not move this one back into the negative.
    Thanks for your help

  • Can the post crop vignette be changed to the original vignette effect?

I must say I'm surprised and disappointed that the post crop vignette uses a different effect to that of the original lens correction vignette.
I can't figure out why this has been done & to my eyes, it's very inadequate.
Is there any workaround, or can this feature please be changed in a future release?
What makes it worse is that this was one of the reasons I made the upgrade to Lightroom 2.0... But I really can't use this effect as it stands.

The original lens correction vignette functioned like a lens vignette would--by lightening/darkening exposure in the corners of the image.
the present post-crop vignette appears ot be an overlay of either black or white, with variations in opacity, size and feathering. Consequently, it very much has the appearance of a post-processed mask overlay.
The big areas in which I see differences between these effects are 1) in the highlight regions. Whereas the original vignette would restore some of the blown out areas in a highlight, the new post-crop vignette only greys out these areas with a darker or lighter region (no detail), and 2) in areas of color--instead of seing a restoration and accentuation in color (eg. in a slightly blown-out sky or background), the new filter further greys this area with the application of a black/white mask of varying degrees of opacity.
It is my opinion that the original filter had a certain class to it in the way it would replicate lens effects. The new filter looks like a photoshop effect, and in a way, sadly, that I really don't have a great use for.
I hope that clarifies some of the things I've said.
Can we see a restoration of the functionality of the original vignette to the post-crop version in any upgrade to Lightroom 2.0?

  • Fixed 5.2rc: ...images processed with PV2003 were adding a post-crop vignette...

    From the release notes:
"Catalog containing images processed with PV2003 were adding a post-crop vignette when catalog upgraded to Lightroom 5"
Does that mean all my PV2003 images (10,000+) now have a post-crop vignette included in their edit history?  Or some?  Or some special combination?
I converted my v4.4 catalogue a couple of days after v5.0 was released, so I really don't want to go back to my old v4.4 catalogue and re-convert...
    Any ideas?

    The "fix" works as follows:
    1. If you use LR5.2 RC to upgrade a catalog containg some PV2003 images, there will be no issue....i.e. you will not see the unexpected "Post Crop Vignette Style: Paint Overlay" entry in the develop History.
    2. If you open an LR5 catalog which was created by upgrading from an earlier version using LR5.0, any PV2003 images will STILL show the "Post Crop Vignette Style: Paint Overlay" entry in the develop History, BUT it will no longer have the problem of losing all intervening history steps should you click on a prior history step.
    3. Any already-lost history steps caused by the problem in LR5.0 will remain lost.

  • Why external editor Cs5 doesn't open in Adobe Camera Raw window?

I am workning in Apertute 3 and I want to edit some photos in Photoshop Cs5. I am working with RAW files, but when I want to open the file in external editor, it doesn't open in Adobe Camera Raw so I am loosing the Adobe Camera Raw adjustment abilities. Is there perhaps a way how to set up Aperture to comunicate with Photoshop Cs5 so it opens photos in Camera Raw window? I think in previous version of Aperture this was possible. Thanks.

Editing in the external editor (from within aperture) is only possible for Versions, not for masters, afaik. Since it would be pointless to export a Version again in some raw format, Aperture offers high quality lossless formats to export versions - tiff and Photoshop psd.
If you want to do the raw processing externally, you will have to edit the master image file:
export the master, or reveal a managed master and copy it to Photoshop, then reimport it.
To edit the master in Photoshop and to reimport it, you could use an automator service: I put a sample workflow and some instructions on how to use and modify it on this page: feel free to modify it according to your needs.

I recently downloaded camera raw 8.4 for use with photoshop CS6. The crop tool in camera raw now only allows me to crop to a ratio rather than to a specific size. I usually crop to 9x13 or 17x22 inches. How do I get this feature back?  I prefer and need to crop my work to a specific size.
    Thanks, Jeff D.

    Good day!
I notice no difference to prior to 8.4.
But maybe the ACR Forum may be a better place for questions realted to ACR.

  • How can I download Camera Raw?  I bought CS2 a long time ago and it was upgraded to CS5 but I do not have Camera Raw plug in.  Thank you

How can I download Camera Raw?  I bought CS2 a long time ago and it was upgraded to CS5 but I do not have Camera Raw plug in.  Thank you

Which camera make and model are your Raw files from?
Camera Raw ships with Photoshop and is constantly upgraded by Adobe to keep up with new cameras as they are released to market.
It's likely that your camera requires a version of Camera Raw which is not compatible with your CS5. Or you may simply need to upgrade Camera Raw via Help > Updates in Photoshop.

  • Hi please can you help me. I have photoshop CS5 extended, I bought a new camera Nikon D610 I want to edit my photos adobe camera raw , but when I try to open photoshop CS5 it will not open. Please can you tell me how to download and install the camera raw

HI bought a new camera Nikon D610 , I am using adobe photoshop CS5 extended, I want to edit my photos in camera raw but it is not possible to do so . I need to download camera raw plugin for CS5 can some tell me how to do so or if there is a link for the camera plugin.
    Many thanks Pitt.

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC.  Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version  6.7

  • Invoking Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 4 asks for Camera Raw Plug-in 7.0

I have just downloaded and installed Adobe Lightroom 4.0. When I try to invoke "Photo / Edit in Photoshop CS 5.1" I get the warning "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.0 for full compatibility. Please update the camera raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu". However, the update function in Photoshop CS5.1 says that there are no updates available and searching adobe.com I can find no references to Camera Raw plug-in 7.0. What is one to do? Thanks.

No, the warning is not the issue.  As I've said, "supported cameras" are not the problem.
I do initial processing on my images, then using Lightroom CMD E push them to Photoshop for further editing.  The message says "7.0 may be required for full compatibility" should I ignore that warning and click "Open Anyway"  because there really aren't any compatibility issues?
LR 4 Develop module is much different than LR 3,  just as CS5 version of ACR is different than what I've seen in the CS6 beta.   My assumption is there would be compatibility issues - as the warning says - when using LR4's develop engine then passing it on to CS5.  I don't use ACR in Photoshop since I use Lightroom, I use Photoshop for detailed image editing in conjunction with the Nik Software selective tool run as a window within Photoshop.
So how about a clear answer:  Just click "Open Anyway" and everything will work great?  When I first work on an image in LR4, then further edit it in Photoshop CS5 with ACR 6.7 installed, Save and Close the image in Photoshop sending it back to Lightroom it will all work just like yesterday when I did all that in Lightroom 3 without any error messages?

  • No crop tool in camera raw

I have only 8 tools in the Camera RAW toolbar:
    Zoom
    Hand
    White Balance,
    Color Sampler
    Targeted Adjustment
    Spot Removal
    Red Eye
    Adjustment Brush
    Graduated Filter
    Radial Filter
I right clicked on the toolbar to see if the Cropping, Straightening, etc. were hidden.  Nothing.  The only other tool is the Full Screen button.
    What's up?
    Windows 8.1
I did further research and opened the file from Windows Explorer and the tools are all there.  But they're not there when opened from Bridge??????   WTF?
Okay.....  more research.  The problem was opening a file from Preview.  From Filmstrip and Essentials they're all there.  So I modified the workspace to look more like Preview, saved it as a new workspace and I'm happy now.
I was thinking of deleting this email, but thought someone else might be running into the same issue.
    Thanks
    David

If you go to Help > System Info and look at the first line, that will tell you what exact version of Photoshop you have.
If CS6 or above, you might check to see if you are updated to Camera Raw 8.7.1
That would be the first item to look at if you suspect anything wrong.

Have you tried using the Clear button on the Options bar?  (A counter clockwise arrow).
Have you tried resetting the Crop tool (left end of Options bar)?
