PS CS5 install compatibility with CS4 Design Premium

I am wanting to install PS CS5 Extended when I already have CS4 Design Premium (with PS CS4 extended) installed. Can I keep PS CS4 as part of the suite and simply install PS CS5 as well or is that going to create problems?

Yes, you can keep CS4 and install CS5.

  • Upgrading to CS5 Master Collection with CS3 Design Premium Suite

I just bought CS5 Creative Suite Master Collection on Tigerdirect.com. I noticed there wasn't any details about what version of software you can upgrade from (such as Master Collection or Design Premium etc)  I currently have CS3 Design Premium Software (an upgraded version from CS1 or whatever).  Will I be able to upgrade to the CS5 Creative Suite Master Collection by using my CS3 Design Premium serial number?

Only if you bought the right upgrade. Here's the correct item on Amazon: http://amzn.to/b4XQJ3
Note the list price is $1,299. Amazon has it for about $1,239. If you paid significantly less than that you bought the wrong one.

  • Clean Deinstallation of CS4 Design Premium for Windows XP

Would very much appreciate any pointers or pointers to suggestions for a clean removal of CS4 Design Premium.  Many Thanks.

Thanks very much John for your response. I am struggling with a printing problem since I installed Design Premium. When you have a free moment perhaps you might oblige me by looking at another of my threads in this forum. I do not know how to append or attach it to this response but this is the topic from a few days ago:

Color and density printing problems with CS4 Design Premium
Today I printed very good prints from another modest program (Canon Digital Professional). The programs work space is s/RGB and both HP
printers were set up to s/RGB. Recalibrated my monitor today and it is still dead on. Then I tried s/RGB for CS3 and CS4 in Design Premium
and they were dark and  muddy, some vibrant and color shifted colors and even solorized or posterized in several places. I don't need Photoshop CS4
and at this point I don't even want it if I can restore CS3 to it's period of greatness just letting the printers manage the color. I need IN DESIGN
and ACROBAT PRO for upcoming projects. If I cat't work out these problems, I will have to buy a  $500 Emachine with 3 gig of memory and let
Design Premium live by it self. Thanks again,

  • Upgrade CS4 design premium to CS5.5 standard, what happens with my web apps?

    Hi,
I'm planning to upgrade my CS4 design premium to CS5.5 design standard, but I still like to use Dreamweaver from the CS4. Does anyone know if this is possible. I've chatted with an Adobe sales employe who said I can only upgrade to CS5.5 design premium in order to keep using dreamweaver but I read that other people are using different versions of CS simultanously on 1 computer. Any thoughts?
    Thanks alot!

I respectfully disagree. The license includes a stipulation that you can continue to use the earlier version during a transition period. There is no set time limit there. I have CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 installed.

  • I own Adobe CS4 Design Premium Suite and want to install it on 2 computers in my home. Can I with 1 serial number?

I own Adobe CS4 Design Premium Suite and want to install it on 2 computers in my home. Can I with 1 serial number?

Yes.  A single user license allows for activated installations on two machines of the same platform type (Windows versus Mac).  A limitation in this allowance is that only one of the machines can be using the Suite software at any given time.

  • Can't install CS4 Design Premium on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

    Hi All,
I've been scouring forums, and trying suggested fixes to no avail. I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on a brand new internal hard drive. I'm in the process of removing all my apps from Vista and reinstalling on this OS. Here's a breakdown on what I've done regarding CS4 Design Premium:
    1) Deactivated the install from Vista.
    2) Verified with Customer Support that my license key is available for install and activation.
    3) Disabled User Account Control setting in Windows 7.
    4) Tried installing from the discs, only to get the error: "Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance."
    5) Reattempted installation, as I've read that sometimes a second attempt will work fine. No good.
    6) Downloaded and ran the Win CS5 Cleanup Script (which has an add-on utility for CS3 and CS4) in order to get rid of trace registry files. This did its job successfully.
    7) Found an official trial of CS4 Design Premium, which downloaded straight from Adobe's website. Tried installing that, as I've read that the trial can be successful over the discs. No good.
Does anyone have any other help they can offer? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Jessica

It’s a head-scratcher. It appears that you took spsaxena’s advice and renamed the Config.Msi folder and then, during installation, a new new Config.Msi folder was created, but you weren’t allowed access to it?
You then “took ownership” of the new Config.Msi and still the install program stated it couldn’t write to a file in the folder? Was it able to write any “rbf” files in Config.Msi?
I’m on CS5 now, but I was running CS4 on an in-place upgrade to Windows 7, 64-bit — but I don’t recall that Apple supported CS4 installation on Window 7 That may be part of the problem.
It’s a long shot, but you could try setting the setup file to compatibility mode for Windows Vista 32-bit: right-click the executable, click the Compatibility tab, checkmark Run this program in compatibility mode for:, and select Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the drop-down list (or the others, you can play with them all). You can also check-mark Run this program as an administrator.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro will NOT install (CS4 Design Premium)

Acrobat 9 Pro will NOT install (CS4 Design Premium)
Acrobat Pro 9 will not install (FAILED), although every other program on the CS4 DVDs did install properly.
I have followed the instructions, and have tried with no programs running, not even virus protection (which is an insane thing for Adobe to demand of a product being installed where the installation routine is expecting an Internet connection): FAILED.
I uninstalled my Acrobat 6 Pro, (a standalone Pro version that I had to have  a few years ago.) I uninstalled that working program knowing I had no idea where my original Adobe Acrobat CD is located, so I was essentially cutting myself off of Acrobat Pro if the Acrobat 9 Pro install continued to fail.
I reported this to Adobe support online.
I have followed the instructions to disable startup items and services, then tried the Acrobat 9 Pro install: FAILED.
At that point, I gave up installing Acrobat 9 Pro. I didn't have any more time to screw with it - I would re-visit the installation failure later.
Lo and behold, a client sent me a PDF file of a brochure, in an email, and I had to grab some text from it to put on his website (Done in Dreamweaver CS4.) Well, damn, now I'll have to go back and get that install to work...FAILED!
Suspecting a problem in the installation routine on the DVD, I decided to download the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro. So, I did. It downloaded and installed without a hiccup, and I had Acrobat 9 Pro working for 30 days...
I did what I had to do, using the trial version, then figured I would re-visit the installation issue later, when I had a few hours to dedicate to all the hell of calling Adobe software support, handholding, maybe registry edits, multiple reboots, and multiple attempts at doing everything again, just so the support person would know that I did follow all the steps correctly to prove thw outcome is sill FAILED!
Oh crap, I got another PDF file. No problem, I thought, I don't need to edit the PDF, just read it. When I tried to open the file, Acrobat 9 Pro plastered a screen over the program - the screen saying my 30 day trial version has now run out, demanded a serial number, or quit. My CS4 serial number would not activate it, and so I had to quit, not even being able to read the PDF file.
So, I un-installed the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro that had installed without a hitch and had worked flawlessly for 30 days.
Now I'm going to have to visit hell, and get the software that I paid hundreds of dollars for to work...
Please STOP and NOTE: Acrobat 9 Pro installed perfectly from the downloaded Internet version. What does that tell you? There are no operating system issues, no hardware compatibility issues  (which I knew anyway, as the OS and hardware is up to date.) Even more significantly, there is no issue with the Windows registry, or other versions of Adobe Acrobat that had been installed before in the machine. My conclusion was that it has to be a problem with the installation routine on the CS4 disks.
So, I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe personnel: software support, to customer service, to sales, to customer service, and back to sales. After software support came to the conclusion that I needed to UNINSTALL ALL OF CS4, and run a clean-up utility, I knew I had to try getting a new set of DVDs and hope the installation routine problems/bugs had been worked out.
After being batted back and forth by Adobe Customer Service and Adobe Sales, I finally got someone to agree to send a set of DVDs to me.
I got the DVDs. I tried to install Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro: FAILED
As I told the software support person, I do not want to un-install the entire CS4 suite. I have all of those programs working fine, and have about a dozen web sites within Dreamweaver CS4 painstakingly set up and active, and some of them are current projects that I am working on daily. I also have multiple extensions installed, and spent quite a bit of time getting all of those programs set up for my preferences and my work flow. I DO NOT WANT to uninstall the entire suite of applications to get Acrobat 9 Pro to install.
And the conclusion of the "sophisticated" Adobe Support Advisor as to what specifically was the instalation issue?
    Adobe Support Advisor
The module found no solutions to report for the selected log file.
If you continue to have difficulties with the application,
    please contact Adobe Support: http://www.adobe.com/support
    System Information :
    Operating System = Windows XP
    Locale = en
At this point, what I want is to know what registry keys to edit and which folder(s) to delete to eliminate previous traces of Acrobat. In other words, just exactly the tiny piece of the "clean-up utility" that I need to run in order to allow the *Y#^%@#&#(& installation routine to work for Acrobat 9 Pro. I have no intention of uninstalling Dreamweaver CS4, as that is my business livlihood, and I know that my Dreamweaver CS4 client files/sites could not be read by earlier Dreamweaver versions. Asking me to uninstall Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, and Fireworks is insane. Your bad installation routine is not my fault, and you cannot expect me spend countless hours getting all those programs set up the way I want and with all my client/work files working correctly and all the extensions set up properly. So, if Adobe software support refuses to tell me what registry keys need to be changed, then I want Adobe Sales to send me a new, standalone version of Acrobat 9 Pro on disk.
    Dennis

I hit the same problem except I had a Reader X installed not a pro version.  For me the solution was to really make sure that nothing else was running.  I followed the steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso2 the link is goofy so here is the pertinent text:

  • CS5 Production Premium causing problems with CS4 Production Premium

I have been using CS5 Production Premium alongside CS4 Production Premium for a while now.  After Effects, PhotoShop & Illustrator work alright together (both CS4 & CS5 versions).  My job actually necessitates me keeping both versions on my machine.
I had need to use both Premiere Pro CS4 and Encore CS4, and neither of the applications would initialize.  The following is the error message from clicking the Premiere Pro CS4 application file.
I am uncertain what the application event log is or where it is located.
Over on Creative Cow's site, I posted a similar message in the forums, in which a user stated that I should not have CS4 and CS5 on the same partition of my drive.
I do have a secondary internal hard drive on which I could install one of the suites, however, I want to make sure that it is done properly and efficiently.  I have seen some issues with uninstalling CS4 after installing CS5, so I wanted to ask for help before I simply begin to rip software off my PC (since After Effects and PhotoShop - which work - actually comprise 95% of my Adobe workload).
Any suggestions or guidance is appreciated.  Also, which version (CS4 or CS5) would be better suited on the secondary drive?
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

  • Upgrading CS4 Design Premium to CS5

    Hi All,
I recently purchased Adobe CS4 Design Premium with the free upgrade to CS5 Design Premium. I'm using a Mac Pro (2.66Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon). CS4 is currently loaded, but I'm holding off loading my copy of the CS5 upgrade until I've read whether there are any known issues to consider (I also have some important work to finish before I start dabbling). Have any of you taken the plunge already?
Is there anything I should be aware of with this system set-up?
    Should I uninstall CS4 before loading CS5?
Should I first upgrade the Mac OS to 10.6.3?
Will upgrading the OS to 10.6.3 affect CS4 if I leave it on the computer?
Any suggestions from graphic design professionals would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
We have exactly the same spec, 2.8 8 cores and 30" LCD's.
I also got the free upgrade. I've still got CS3 and CS4 loaded, so if you get a problem with something in CS5 you just open in CS4.
All that happens is that documents will open in the latest version when double clicked. You have to right click and open in a lower version if you choose.
Bear in mind though that things created in a later version cannot be opened in a higher version! esp Indesign, Illustrator, Flash etc.
I'm using CS5 everyday, the normal stuff we use every day works fine, no problems and nothing will hinder your work. Obviously there is loads of stuff in the apps which we haven't even looked at or used yet because of time.
    Few kinks are:
Indesign - by default it has all the new measurement and guide lines turned on, they annoyed me so I turned them all off. A bug is that you can't turn off the new frame highlighting but Adobe are aware of this and it's discussed on their forums. Everything else, including all menu items seem to be in the same place.
If you are exporting a big pdf, it seems very very quick but this is because it has background processing now. If you try to close the document straight after saving the pdf, it will come up with a note saying 'process in action' or something. Good feature if you want to carry on working.
Also, remember to change the preflight settings to include RGB images and colour as it's not on by default.
Indesign also forgets page window sizes so if you had two documents open side by side, next time you open them it's forgotten this whereas CS3 used to remember. THis is a bug.
Illustrator - Same as Indesign, you may want to turn off all the stuff you don't need in preferences, remember to turn on scale stroke widths etc because its off by default. In Illustrator you CAN turn off frame highlighting (shows a different team works on this!). And they STILL have not added a shortcut to place an item!
Photoshop - All more or less the sae for day to day use. It is faster when running on a 64 bit Mac. Loads of new features, but the ones we are used to are still there, and where you expect them to be.
Dreamweaver - This is the one with flaws. It forgets ftp login details and the new live site view has problems. If you open a file up it can hang for ages if you have used a direct link to the jquery site for the code, (you need to keep code locally, better practice anyway), and if you use live site, it has a big flaw with the related files. If you hover over them you'll see it thinks some are in the wrong folder. If you try to edit them it says it doesn't exist, but this is because its looking in the wrong ftp folder! You have to manually open it, which kind of makes related files redundant.
Away from the live site feature general web updates and static sites etc is the same, the UI is now consistant with the other apps, its just the ftp details being loss each time on relaunch that is annoying.
On all apps, by default they have a pointless application bar which uses space, I turned this off.
There may be others which I havn't come across yet, but I use it daily, there isn't anything which should stop you installing as far as I'm concerned.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

  • Parallel installation of cs4 design premium and cs5 production ?

    Hallo
I  bought 1 year ago the cs4 design premium suite.
Now I would like to buy the cs5 production suite because I need aftereffect and premiere. Is it possible to install programmes from both cs4 and cs5 suites on one windows System without problems? I use still win vista, but I would like to update to win 7. So perhaps the problems are different depending on the os?
So I would like to install:
    from cs5 production:
    aftereffect cs5
    premiere cs5
    photoshop cs5
    flash catalyst / professional cs5
    bridge cs5
    illustrator cs5
    onlocation cs5
    soundbooth cs5
    encore cs5
    bridge cs5
    and combine it with:
    indesign cs4
    dreamweaver cs4
    fireworks cs4
Would it function at all or not? Would that cause conflicts in special situations? Are the different adbobe programmes able to load updates, when there are cs5 and cs4 programmes on one win system together?
Would there be a problem in for example working with the flash cs5 together with dreamweaver/fireworks cs4?

What you want to do should be no problem. Just be aware that PP and AE are 64 bit only.

  • Error trying to install CS4 design premium on windows vista home premium

I'm having trouble installing CS4 design premium, as soon as it does the checking system it comes up with an error that says I need windows XP sevice pack 2 and some other windows.  I have Windows vista home premium and all the other requirements, so i'm not sure why it's saying that?  I do have CS3 installed but I didn't want to unistall it before I installed the CS4, cause then I wouldn't have anything to work on.  The CS4 is brand new and I have it installed with no problems on another computer that has windows XP.  Would I have to uninstall CS3 before I try to install it?  I'm afraid that I will be left with neither if I do that and this was not a cheap investment to take that chance.  Does anyone know how I could get CS4 design premium installed?
    Thank you
    Jorge Gonzalez

You should npt have to uninstall anything except Acrobat for CS4 to install. You can call tech support for free installation support.

  • I may have totally screwed myself but...after installing Yosemite without checking first, my CS4 Design Premium suite wouldn't open. So I deinstalled it, but I only have disks for my old CS3. When I got the CS4 upgrade I downloaded it. What can I do??

I may have totally screwed myself but...after installing Yosemite without checking for potential problems with Adobe software, my CS4 Design Premium suite wouldn't open. So after consulting some forums, I deinstalled it, but I only have disks for my old CS3. When I got the CS4 upgrade I downloaded it, back in 2011... What can I do?? Everything was fine before I upgraded that *#$%* Yosemite.

  • Unable to open Adobe Acrobat Pro after CS4 Design Premium install

I recently purchased Adobe CS4 Design Premium. I attempted to install it Sunday, and it completed with an indication of success. I then tried to open all my applications to make sure everything went well, and Acrobat keeps coming up with the following error: "You can't open the application Adobe Acrobat Pro because it may be damaged or incomplete." I tried to remove it with the uninstaller, and it does not see it. I have tried to install it multiple times. I even swapped out the DVD drive to see if it was having problems reading the disc, but nothing has helped. I even tried to delete it entirely. I currently have a web case open, but they state that can take up to 3 days to be answered. I tried to call technical support, but gave up after an hour on hold. I suspect a bad disc, but I really don't want to have to wait a week or more to get the issue resolved through sending endless emails back and forth with a web case. I was hoping someone would have a good answer to my problem that would not require that. I am trying to install it on a fairly plain OS 10.6.2 system. It is a 2009 Mac Pro Quad with 6GB of RAM. As stated, so far none of the other applications are giving me any issue. It has just been Acrobat Pro.
    Thanks.

I ended up finding the probable solution to this problem. I downloaded the trial version of CS4 Design Premium. Seeing that I had already installed CS4, it asked what application I wanted to reinstall. I reinstalled Acrobat. When I opened it the first time, it told me that the licensing server could not be reached. I opened Photoshop, then it again. It has worked fine since then. I have updated it to 9.3.1, so it should be good from here on out.

  • CS4 Design Premium Installation Problem with DVDs

    Hey,
I just bought the student Edition of the CS4 Desgin premium package.
    Have Windows XP SP3
Anyway I put in the first DVD...and it loads...and loads....and loads...like half an hour.
Nothing...cant open via explorer as well.
So I restart with Dvd in the drive. restart took a bit longer but now I can acces via explorer.
    I start installation...works fine...put in Dvd2...works fine...Put in dvd3...loads...loads....loads...
just for fun I put in dvd"Content"....loads...loads....loads.
Ok so now I'm right in the middle of the installation...so cant just restart
(I did try later after aborting Installation: then I can read em like dvd1)
Now I have just installed half....with conent of dvd3-"content" missing
I tested 25 other dvds I had laying around...all starting within the sec I entered em, so dvd drive seems fine.
Cant remember how see specs at moment...but lets just say I can play "Crysis" on High smoothly
It would maybe work if I could somehow install the content of dvd3 and dvd"Content" seperatley?
    (do I need dvd "content"?)
Or how about If i create images of em and then mount em...think that would work (know a good free program?)?
    would appreciate some help

I strongly suspect a bad production run of Adobe DVDs - I had enormous problems (see previous thread somewhere in this forum) attempting to install my Student Version Design Premium from the DVDs which Adobe sent me.  I then had absolutely no help from their telephone support.  I then had similarly no help from their online support portal - and, in fact, got really mad at them about it all.  I spent days trying to sort it out.  This message board - and one guru in particular - was very supportive and patient.
My solution: I downloaded the trial version of the Creative Suite I had bought, installed from that (fast, easy, no problems at all) and then used the product key from the DVDs I had bought direct from Adobe.  So, I had to spend three days downloading (very slow broadband here) but it did, at least, get me a working copy.
I wish Adobe would own up to sending out duff DVDs - but when I asked them (about the second question I asked in my first phone call) I was told that it was so unlikely that she (tech support woman) wanted me to try (all manner of ridiculous) other things first.

  • Anyone install CS4 Design Premium on Windows 7 Professional?

I presently have CS4 installed on Microsoft Vista Ultimate SP2 32-bit o/s using a Intel i7-920 processor .  Runs cleanly with no problems whatsoever.  I am in the process of upgrading the o/s over to Microsoft Windows 7 Professional  but risk de-activating my CS4 I thought I would throw this question out to the readership.  I am fortunate enough in obtaining this new o/s prior release and have been tasked to see if all our mission critical applications migrate over cleanly.  Sad to say deactivating, re-installing CS3/CS4 can be a nightmare (ask me how I know!) so risk taking down a good CS4 install using Vista down it it's knees I thought I would ask.  Has anyone by chance tested installing CS4 Design Premium on any of the new Microsoft 7 o/s' ?

I think I found a solution to running CS4 on Windows 7 (pro 64 bit in my case). There were a few variables I eliminated so I'm not sure exactly which one was key.  I am part of an office domain with permissions etc in effect, and that may have been part of the issue. Basically the installer would run but hang around 40% when it was installing "language packs" or "device central" components. It would not generate an adobe error, rather just the usual "program is not responding" error in win 7. If you don't understand my steps, just google the details and you should find methods for each instruction.
    What I did:
    1. Locate and run the clean script for CS3/4/5 from adobe to remove ALL installation files.
    2. Turn off User Account Control in win 7 users settings in control panel.
    3. Make sure you find your C:\users\public\documents (calls itself "public documents" in the file browser) and edit the permissions for that folder. Give full control to any user in the list just to be safe.
    4. If you are using the downloadable installation as I did, allow the files to unpack onto your desktop as default by the adobe unzipper program.
    5. Completely remove ANY antivirus/antispam software and make sure windows defender etc etc is not running. Also turn off windows firewall.
    6. Reboot your computer and ensure NO adobe products are listed in the programs and features list under control panel. If there are, remove & reboot again.
    7. BEFORE BOOTING: unplug from the network, turn off all wireless so that your computer is completely isolated.
    8. Run the installation again, and hopefully it will work for you as It finally did for me after 6 hours of troubleshooting and reading these #*$*# forums.
