PS CS5 Installation/Activation Queery

First off - Sorry about the length of this post! - I also know I have not done things 'properly' and It's my fault, so I don't need to be told I'm an idiot!!
I did a quick search but came up with no definate answers to my question...
Here is a concise version of events:
Installed 32 bit CS5 on my 32 bit Windows 7 PC - Was running this for around 3 weeks without problems.
I then set up the PC to dual-boot 64 bit and 32 bit Windows 7 Using different physical Hard-Drives (32bit on drive 'C', 64bit on drive 'D').
Installed 64 bit CS5 on the new 64 bit Windows on the PC (Drive 'D')  - to check performance etc. - So at this stage I have two copies of PS CS5 installed, and I assume activated on the SAME PC.
After testing numerous pieces of software/drivers etc. in the new 64 bit environment I decided to re-format the old 32 bit Windows partition (my original 'C' drive that held the 32 bit version of Windows 7) WITHOUT deactivating that install of PS 32 bit CS5. (stupid thing No.1)
I then re-installed a new copy of Windows 7 64 bit on the newly formatted 'C' drive.
I then (again stupidly) Re-formatted the original 'test-bed' 64 bit Windows install on the 'D' drive, WITHOUT deactivating the 64bit PS CS5
I then Installed 64 bit CS5 (again) but this time on the new 64bit Windows 'C' drive
It appears to have been activated ok (I have the option to de-activate in the menu) so this makes 3 installation of PS CS5 (1 x 32bit & 2x64bit) on the SAME PC!
The real question is: does the Adobe activation system 'know' that all these installs are on the same hardware and thus I have only used up 1 activation, or have I managed to use up 2 because one of them is 32bit and the other 64bit?
I'm assuming I can't have used up 3 because the licence does not allow this.
I will be wanting to install on a new laptop sometime after January next year and I'm wondering if I'll be able to, without having to 'beg' to Adobe over the phone to reset them or whatever they do.
I can't see any way of managing or viewing these activation on the Adobe website (unlike the way you can with Capture One software)
Or will I be better off just phoning Adobe if I have a problem later?
Regards
Kevin

I am pretty new with CS5 (about 6 weeks) - installed, activated and have used till last week when my system died. After several trials, eventually I had to reinstall the OS without being able to deactivate CS5. I haven't reinstalled and reactivated CS5 yet (doing some more repairs/changes on my system).
Being aware of the existence of a certain limit of activations, I called Adobe Customer Support (am I the only one to do this ?) and asked them. Their answer was that if the reason of the activation without prior deactivation is "system failure", then the limit is five (5) times. On my insistence that what happens if my system dies 6 times, they said that it is unlikely (which depends on how much and how clumsily I tinker with my system, of course), they said that then the issue can be elevated. If I deactivate before removing CS5, then there is no limit - according to this representative. I have to note here that I have gotten several different answers from different Adobe Support personnel for identical questions before, so I am not sure how accurate this answer was. (May be that's why we ask each-other instead of Adobe?)
My understanding is that Microsoft doesn't impose limit on the number of operating system reinstallations - as long as the installation happens on the same machine (same microprocessor). Why can't Adobe do the same? And just a hypothetical question in case of a (very unlikely) sixth "system failure": what if I have a system image (with an activated CS5), and I restore that image just to deactivate CS5 before I do my system repair? (BTW, how "identical" should be the system in order to be able to restore the Win7 created system image - apart from the same mother board, processor and system disk?)
Even if I didn't contribute any new information to this issue, I appreciate the opportunity to went my frustration with Adobe (with excellent products but not so excellent support in some cases) - and I didn't even mentioned my first trial with instant messaging, when the Adobe representative diligently sent me the canned comments ("thank you for...", etc. from over the ocean) but even 10 minutes later still didn't understand my question.
Thanks,
Laci.

  • How do I view and disable unwanted crap in the CS5 installer

I'm running the trial installer, and I noticed Adobe has become even more creative with hiding away all its silent-and-utterly-unnecessary payloads. In addition to defining required components in the proxy.xml files like for CS3 and CS4, there's now also a "Media_db.db" SQLite3 database with all payloads and dependencies that needs to be modified... and in the mean time no one bothered to actually fix the installer to offer us ways to not install things we don't want in the slightest.
To adobe in general: I want to install what *I* want to install, not what you want to install on my computers. I don't want AIR, and Media Player, and your own flavour of a JRE, and... well basically of the 1.5Gb your Photoshop CS5 installer wants me to install, I only need 500Mb (namely: photoshop, cmap, type support, xmp and the required fonts and color profiles). How do I turn the rest of the payloads off?
Can we get someone who wrote the installer for this -quite frankly wonderful- program on the line so that they can tell us all how we can actually control the install process so that it does NOT install all the stuff Adobe wants to force onto our systems?

Hello. I’m the engineering manager for the Creative Suite and also responsible for the installation technology.
There’s lots of topics here, so let me try to address them one at a time.
First, our guiding principle for CS5 installers was to fix the top call generators for CS4 so that the installer succeeded more frequently. In addition, we made some significant architectural changes to better enable volume deployment scenarios. There is still a long way to go before the installers are perfect; but, gauging from the overall number of customer escalations over the past days since shipping we did succeed at dramatically reducing the number of customer escalations. Volume deployment tools are not yet released and we’ll see if those help volume deployment scenarios shortly. I’m not sure from where you heard the installers were going to be revamped from the bottom up. That’s never been the plan.
Adobe has become even more creative with hiding away all its silent-and-utterly-unnecessary payloads
The intent is to make the most common installation scenarios very simple, with a second goal to give the user as much configurability as we safely can. We’re not actually *trying* to hide anything. You can find the list of payloads and their use here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/OOBE/2010/05/cs5_payloads.html
The actual way that dependencies are determined is that each product lists its own subcomponents and how strong of a dependency that product has on each subcomponent. Subcomponents that are deemed “Critical” or “Required” do not show up as deselectable. Subcomponents that are “Recommended” or “Optional” do show up as deselectable. It sounds like the root disagreement here is the definition of what payloads should be Critical or Required vs. Recommended or Optional. Here’s the definition of the different dependency levels:
Critical –The product will not successfully launch without this payload.
Required - Without this payload the product’s primary functionality will not work as expected. The trick is defining what “primary functionality” means. Each product defines this on their own.
Recommended – Tertiary functionality does not work if this payload is not deployed.
Optional – There is no interactivity between the component and the product. Not installing the component should not adversely affect the product.
For Photoshop CS5, the installer includes six Recommended or Optional payloads: Extension Manager, ExtendScript Toolkit, Device Central, AIR, Media Player, and Fonts Recommended. Deselecting any one of them should result in that component NOT being installed. I just ran the Photoshop CS5 installer on a Windows XP system after deselecting each one of those six components and verified that indeed none of them were installed. (Note, I already had AIR on the system so I cannot really verify that AIR didn’t get installed in this particular install instance.)
Even deselecting all six leaves almost 1.5 GB to be installed. One could easily argue that many payloads marked as Critical or Required should instead be Recommended, such as Bridge. You have a valid point there.
The JRE point is an interesting one. In CS4 there were multiple copies (6, if memory serves) of the JRE being installed. Customers (and I) just didn’t know about it. Many different products just included the JRE as part of their product folder. In fact, Dreamweaver still does this today. We’ve pulled the other copies into one common payload. So now there are only two copies of the JRE being installed, the common one and the Dreamweaver one. The reason we tried to reduce the number of JREs installed is to reduce the cost in disk space to the customer as well as be able to more adequately address security vulnerabilities if one should occur within the JRE. These are all just normal JREs from Sun and haven’t been tweaked in any way; but, we need a known version to ensure the products keep running properly. If we just leverage the system version (on Mac) or a common version across the system (on Win) then we’ve encountered numerous customer escalations when the JRE is updated on that system.
Bridge in the Suite install case is also interesting. Because Photoshop has a Required dependency on Bridge, if you deselect Bridge with another product but then have Photoshop selected for install then Bridge will still be installed.
Can we get someone who wrote the installer for this -quite frankly wonderful- program on the line so that they can tell us all how we can actually control the install process so that it does NOT install all the stuff Adobe wants to force onto our systems?
I’ll try to dig up some instructions. Using the upcoming enterprise deployment toolkit is one method; but, that’s not going to be available for at least a few more weeks. It may take a few days to post instructions since we have to test the instructions before posting them. Note also that the product teams have not tested any configuration where the Critical and Required payloads are not installed, so the products may not function properly.
When I do get the instructions I’ll post them at this blog:

  • CS5 Installation: how to install on a disk image?

    Hi people!
Even though CS5 is completely written in COCOA, its still (rediculously) doesn't support case-sensitive HFS+ file systems. Which means I should reinstall my mac for a few apps (I can't live without)?!
It's just plain stupid. Is there any way to force the installer to install on a image? It used to be possible, but with CS5 installation the installer hangs before you can choose!
Hope somebody can help, or I just spent a LOT of money on a inferiour product, since it forces me to re-install my entire mac! Adobe! #fail! you can do so much better :-(
    Best regards,

As they have an armv greater that armv6 you can download teh app from market or you can download it directly from: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/candidates/

Adobe Sucks!  Now that I have got that out of my system! Yes it is my Fault!  Here is the problem.
Adobe makes great products that are over priced.  (Creative Suites-$2500.00 Retail even upgrades)
CS2, Yes it is an older version.  Still is a fine product.  Original computer that had CS2 installed, finally bit the dust and went to Electronic waste recycle.  New computer (Windows XP Sp3-Got Windows XP just to run Adobe CS2)
Installation of SW completed wiht no errors.  Installation activation complete with no errors.  Run In Design - "Personalize Your Software" window appears and asks for input of serial number.  Input serial number (as on Box, CD, etc.) error message states "Serial number entered is not Valid. Please check and re-enter"  It is correct and valid serial number.  program closes.  When runing Photoshop first screen appears with error box stating "Photo Shop can not find valid Serial Number"  Same serial number entered during installation and activation of software package.  Called Adobe on phone - on hold for 1.5 hours listening to elevator music.  Contacted on line chat for help.  They said that the problem could be resolved only  on the phone.  Called on  phone again.  This time was able to talk to Adobe Technical Rep.  All I heard was "CS2 is to old and not supported by Adobe".  Buy a new package ($2,500.00) again.  No discount for upgrade.  No on line Adobe support, No phone Adobe support, Sorry for the inconvience Adobe Support.  Can anyone help make Adobe CS2 work?  or Do I throw it away and write off Adobe as a Software company and find someone else?

Jungle Rot please see Error: "...user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid..." when you start Photoshop (CS2 on Windows) - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/error-user-name-organization-or.html.  There are several steps which should help you solve for this issue.

  • Separate section for installation/activation/etc. issues

I'd suggest to add a separate section (subforum) for each (or most of) the software products, dealing exclusively with issues pertaining to installation/deinstallation/activation/deactivation/installing 64bit version on.../using product with ... graphics card/etc.etc...
For example, since the launch of Photoshop CS4, the main Photoshop forum section has been cluttered with installation/activation issues to a point, where other issues go unnoticed and people lose interest in the forum. During the last days, I've read at least 2 comments in the Photoshop section, that they have decided to stop using the forum for exactly this reason.
I'd have to look, but I can surely retrieve these comments, if need be ...
    kind regards.

    such a nonsense!
There is a huge difference in
USING the program   vs.  installing/deinstalling (etc.) it. Don't say most of the people here are dumb!
If Joe and Jane sixpack wouldn't know  that it's an installation issue, how come that they  are capable of  saying so in the thread title ??

I'm willing to download from the web, but I can't find the right site.

You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • Concurrent Photoshop Cloud and CS5 Installation?

I am moving to a new computer. I have a never-installed, never registered Creative Suite 5 Design Premium and a new Photoshop (only) Creative Cloud membership. I have not yet downloaded the Cloud Photoshop software. I want to use the other Adobe programs in CS5 and the new Photoshop Cloud software on this new computer. Will these two software versions install and operate without conflict? That is, can I have Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop Cloud programs installed concurrently, together with the other applications in CS5?
If so, does it matter which I install first?
Finally, does the Photoshop Cloud license allow me to install that software on both a desktop and a laptop computer I myself own? I am currently using CS4 and that license allows installation on two systems I own. Is this true of the new Cloud license?

Cloud License allows 2 activations http://www.adobe.com/legal/licenses-terms.html
Install CS5 first, so when you install Photoshop CC the registry entries will have that version start when you double-click a picture

  • Photoshop CC, device license, installation, activation

I subscribed  via the French Federation of Photography : a Device license for Photoshop CC.
I got through the installation. (I am administator of the team).
In the administration console, I saw the the license has been activated.
Note: All following messages are in French. I translate them.
At the first run of PS I got a popup window about "Required Connection". I press continue and surprise:
I am said that I can use Adobe Photoshop CC for 32767 days!!  (Great for a trial period!).
When I press the button "Activate now", it opens a new window for subscription.
What is my status? Can I use PS CC safely for all my subscription time (one year)?
update: I tried to run PS CC again, and now I am said I have a 30 days trial period. Of course this is not what I was expecting.!

  • Photoshop CS5 installs on Win 8.1, but won't update.  the error says, ""This serial number is not for a qualifying product..." when installing an upgrade or upsell".  PS CS5 12.0  is too downlevel to work on canon raw

I have contacted adobe CusServ 5 times.  Each time I get a different answer.  One even went so far as giving me a new, full product serial number which still would not allow updates to be applied.  Their only solution is to pay for the "cloud".  I don't need the "cloud".  My CS5 does everything I need and has worked great up until my computer died.  It was running win7 ultimate.  My new computer runs win 8.1.  Not the pro version.  Should I go to Corel, maybe they are more helpful?  Help please!
I have looked at the other similar issues here and the answers are all similar.  1)Contact CS agent.  Useless, they say come here to the forum.  2)apply SN from previous product.  Did that and loaded CS4 also.  No help.  3)Get a new serial number.  got a new SN for a full product from one of the CS agents.  Same problem.
I have deactivated, activated.  I have uninstalled and re-installed several times.  The CS agents I have spoken to were useless, the only way I could get them to try anything was to suggest that the problem was beyond their competency.  I refuse to pay $30 a month for the functionality I have all ready purchased.  Adobe is degenerating.  I hope more people reject the "cloud" concept.

    Hi Guys,
Ive got the same problems as you, Win XP SP2 on RAID 1 hard disk set on an AMD raid controller, but I have no driver to roll-back to.
Ive installed Photoshop CS3 and also Acrobat Standard 8 (which used to run fine on an old system), but all i get now is the blank window with the menu and title bar and thats all.
Can some one help?  (will this licensing patch resolve the issue - and where can i get it from?)
    Thanks

    Hi All,
I am having CS6 design and web premium - volume license and i am facing with a difficulty that we have to choose options for installation, also all of our computers are working behind proxy, therefore there is no direct internet which is causing problem with activation. • Adobe Photoshop CS5 and activations

    Hi everyone......
I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed on on Windows XP computer. As I understand, I am allowed 2 activations.  If I first deactivate and then uninstall CS5 on my current computer Will I then get both of my activations back?  I intend to buy a new system ( Windows 7) and I would first deactivate CS5 on the old system ( and uninstall it fron that system).
I was just wondering if the two activations you are allowed are lifetime or if you regain the activations back when CS5 is deactivated from within the program?
    thank you
    Joe

To further clarify, you need only deactivate, though if you plan to continue to use the computer for other things, uninstalling would free up some disk space.

So I was installing Adobe Flash CS5 and ended up with this error.

I have Acrobat 9 Pro installed with CS5 on a win7 desktop. I can't repair it or remove it with the "Add/Remove Program". The "Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool" says it should not be used with any CS installation. Is there any other way to remove Acrobat 9 Pro?

  • Adobe Ps, Ai ad Id CS5 installer fails to initialize

I have recently encountered a problem while working with Ps CS5 that somehow affected the performance of the other Adobe programs on my pc. I uninstalled them all and tried re-installing, but the installer constatly fails to initialize no matter which package I'd launch. From what I've read on the internet, the problem could be of any kind so I'm kindly asking for some advice given the info on my PDApp.log that follows at the end. If anyone could "read" it and navigate me through what I could do next to eliminate the problem, I'd really really appreciate it! Thank you!

  • PS CS5 Installation Error 20

I have tried several times to install PS CS5 in a win 7 system with 16GB RAM, intel i7 chip. I get the following screen each time. I disabled windows firewall and trojan hunter, have no other virus software. System has CS4 and lightroom Beta 3 installed. I also successfully installed this on my other system which is almost identical.
I installed AIR and ran it as admin and it found no problems.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Paul

I extracted the files to a network drive. I guess the installer did not like the remote path or win 7 denied access (more likely). i will copy the files to a local drive and try again.
Thanks for your prompt and accurate reply.
    Paul
