PS CS5 is asking me to install Java SE 6 runtime ?

I just bought a new macbook pro and migrated the version of PS I own, which is CS5.
It won't open on the new macbook pro.....it's asking me to download Java SE 6 runtime.....
The Apple tech lady is saying, don't download that version of Java...it's an old version with a lot of holes.....
I tried downloading the LATEST version of Java, but PS is still not opening and still asking for Java SE 6 runtime.
What should I do?

You're welcome.
Just for anyone wondering. Apple had always done all Java maintenance for the Mac with their own versions. Oracle would release a new version, and Apple would then modify the latest release so it would work correctly with OS X. At the point of version 7, Apple basically said to Oracle, "This is your software, you make it work for the Mac OS." Which is why Java 7 and 8 for the Mac can only be obtained from Oracle.
I have both 6 and 8 installed. Newer Java apps I need to use for transferring client images requires 7 or 8. Other apps won't run under any version of Java than Apple's last release, version 6. Such as X-Rite's ColorPort app.
What Apple does still do is install the underlying Java code required by any OS Java needs to function. But the foreground runtime software Java apps actually need to launch is what you download from Oracle. Save for version 6 from Apple.

Install the version of Java they want from here: Java for OS X 2014-001
    See if CS 5.1 launches.
If not reinstall CS5.1 and any updates.

  • Installing Java SE 6 runtime without admin password

I work for a school district which uses JAMF's Casper suite to manage our Macs. We recently received a new shipment of mbp's which have been updated to 10.8.4. With Casper we are able to push out software packages without any end user involvement. This is especially convenient so we don't have to input the admin password with each install. We use a couple of Java based applications as well as Java enabled web sites for education. Problem is I can install JDK 7 Update 25.pkg which takes care of viewing webistes but when I attempt to open our Java desktop apps it asks if I want to install Java SE 6 runtime which requires an admin password. I've tried installing Java 6 from Apple's download page but when I attempt installing it says I must be running 10.6.x. Is there any way of installing runtime without an admin password and where might I find the runtime package. Sorry for the lengthy explanation. Thanks.

    JDK 7 Update 25.pkg
That is the newest Java so you shouldn't need Java SE 6.

  • Do i need to install java se 6 runtime as requested when trying to start xcode

Hi, I just upgraded from L to ML. I want to try to use XCode. When I try to start XCode it says do I want to install Java SE 6 runtime.
Should I / do I need to do this please? (ISTR switching off Java runtime a while ago because of a security issue?)
    TIA for any advice.
BTW this is my mid-2007 24 inch iMac - this age of Mac just makes the cut for ML according to the documentation, and seems to be running it fine.

Won't hurt. I run both on my machine.

  • To open "device manager" install Java SE 6 runtime error message on bouts

Why does To open "device manager" install Java SE 6 runtime appear every time I boot up computer after installing upgrade to Yosemite 10.10 OS

You must have some application called "device manager" which is set to run at startup. Do you know what it is?
Go to System Preferences->Users and Groups, then select the "Login Items" tab and see what's there. Remove anything you don't recognize.
If it's an application you know, and you want to run, then you're going to have to install Java on your machine. Honestly, I'd recommend against it; the application must be quite old.

  • Cannot open Photoshop: get error: To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?  However installing Java SE 6 runtime does not fix nor does installing Oracle Java SE 7. Adobe says Apple is problem.

Searching the internet for solutions to this and some discussion with Adobe.
Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
Found various links that might be helpful:

However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6  is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message  and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting.

  • Keep getting notification on 'nexdef' need to install java se 6 runtime

my mac pro is a retina 13 inch 2.5GHZ processor intel core i5, memory 8 GB
Ever since I upgraded to OS x Yosemite,  getting this non stop notification to open nexdef you need to install  the legacy java SE 6 runtime.
The notification keeps popping and freezes whatever your doing....can't continue until you press ok. Already installed the java but still popping. Pls assist how to stop.

"Nexdef" is a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it, including its automatic update mechanism (if any) according to the developer's instructions. Otherwise, install Java.

  • Need to Install Java SE 6 Runtime in order to launch Illustrator from Mac OS Yosemite?  But it's not available anywhere?

    Hello,
Can anyone help me with this?  I upgraded to Yosemite, and now I can't launch Illustrator because it says I need Java SE 6 runtime in order to open it.  But that version is not available anywhere, not on Apple's website and not on Oracle's.  I did install the latest version of Java, but that didn't solve the problem.  Apparently Illustrator (and I assume all of the creative cloud apps) require version 6?  Any input is appreciated, this is SO frustrating ...

yes.  but if you follow that link and click on "download" you get an Apple message that says "We're sorry.  We can't find the page you're looking for."  That was the first thing I tried.  Any other ideas?

  • To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.

Recently updated to OSX Yosemite.  Now every time I turn the computer on I get this message.
To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.
I don't know what CS5ServiceManager is.  And when I click on the "More Info" button, I am redirected to a blank screen.  So I'm confused and a little worried.  Is it necessary to install Java SE 6 runtime?  If so, I think I can find the instructions on how to do it, but I'd like to know if (1) it is safe to do so and (2) if it's necessary.

Here it is: Apple Java 2014-001. Quite safe to install. Only necessary if you are using Adobe's CS5 suite.
