PS CS5 is Uninstall Same as Deactivate?

I need to use Photoshop CS5 on 3 computers when I'm at different locations.  The dialog box on the 3rd one says I need to "Deactivate" another computer.  When I try to do that on another computer the screen has a check box for "Deactivate" and then a button labeled "Uninstall".  It seems that I must click the "Uninstall" button in order to "Deactivate" Photoshop, because the only options to continue are a "Cancel" and "Uninstall" button.   The labeling gives the impression that "Deactivate" and "Uninstall" are different operations, but it appears that simply to deactivate CS5 I must actually uninstall it.
So, is it true that I must actually uninstall Photoshop?  Is there no way to simply deactivate it rather than having to uninstall and reinstall the entire program?
Thanks,
Greg

I'd like to only deactivate only.  When I run the Uninstall program a screen comes up with checkboxes for each of the programs in the suite and a checkbox for "Deactivate", which I checked.  However, to close the screen I have only a cancel button and an unstall button.  I assume that if I click the Uninstall button that I will uninstall every program that I've checked, and of course if I hit cancel it will simply cancel.
That's where I need help because I don't seem to be able to get out of the screen without clicking the Uninstall button, unless there is an entirely different way of performing a Deactivate.

  • Encore CS5.5 Libraries - same, better than CS4?

Hey folks - just wondering whether Encore CS5.5 includes all the libraries we got in CS4. I'm on a Windows 7 64-bit machine and I'm running Prod Premium CS4 now. I just got the CS5.5 Prod Prem in the mail yesterday but I haven't installed it yet. My plan is to uninstall CS4 first since I don't anticipate needing it. But I am wondering about the Encore libraries.
Is there any reason to keep the CS4 libraries installed?
I ask because CS4 Prod Prem came with 4 disks + a Content Disk + a Learning Disk. CS5.5 includes just 4 disks total.
guess I'll find out when I install CS5.5, but I plan to uninstall CS4 first. So I wondered whether I should keep anything from CS4 on my machine.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this.
    And Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays!

I installed CS5 only on my new machine when I made the double upgrade (PC and CS5). I left CS3 and CS4 installed on my other machine. I find it handy, but primarily for testing questions other users have. I always use CS5 for work.
There have been a few issues where a bug is introduced and users say it helped to have CS4 as a workaround.
But if I were doing what you are doing today for a production only machine, I wouldn't bother to uninstall CS4. But I might pick that moment for a fresh install of Windows, in which case I would not install CS4.
I think Adobe had a strong recommendation not to install CS4 over CS5 (which you are not planning).
Once upon a time, the Encore libraries were apparently "extra" and installed from a disk called "functional content." The CS4 and CS5 functional content disk is NOT such content. When you install from disks, you automatically install the Encore libraries.
I can't compare CS4 and CS5 directly, but the Encore Library folder for CS3, CS4, and CS5 has files/folders respectively 1316/20, 1318/20, 1316/20. A "quick contents" compare in winmerge between CS3 and CS4 had only 4 differences (for example, CS3 used a mov and CS4 m2v for one of the motion menus).
The interesting (non)difference is that they do not appear to ahve changed the par of the menus form the pre-CS4 days. If you open any of the menus directly in Photoshop, it says the par appears to be incorrect and asks if you want to correct it. (I say no.) If you use "edit in photoshop" from Encore, CS4 and CS5 does not ask (it is obviously  making the correction, probably upon import to Encore). Encore CS3 makes no such adjustment.
What this means to me is the the Encore library menus are the old menus with the old pars. It doesn't matter much; there would be only a bit of distortion. I haven't tested to see if there is any. But for me it is evidence that the menus in CS5 are the same ones from at least CS3.
That said, you can simply copy the library folder to another location until you determine whether you need it.

  • Should cs5 be uninstalled after install of cs6

    1. cs6 does not recognizes but will not run 3d party plugins that worked on cs5/64
    2. should cs5 be uninstalled after upgrade to cs6

Not sure what you are asking. Simply keep your CS5 around until vendors provide updates to whatever plug-ins you may be using. Feel free to uninstall later, but in light of potential compatibility issues you might still keep it around for a while, especially if you exchange files with other people who may not yet have upgraded...

  • Can I run Photoshop CS4 and CS5 on the same system?

I read somewhere a zillion years ago (right?) that you coould run CS4 and CS5 on the same system but at the time I wasn't even considering it.
Run on the same system - not ness to run at the same time
Or should I install it on a seperate drive (bootable) and go that route. What has everyone found to work and/or not work?
Thanks in advance for your help
    BJ

Yes, you can run CS4 an CS5 on the same computer.  They install in different folders and don't get in each other's way.  As a matter of fact, you will find many posts in this forum from the experts recommending to keep CS4 (or an earlier version) when installing CS5.  This way, there is no danger of losing any older plug-ins you may have that aren't compatible to CS5.
When I installed PS CS5 I had problems with my scanner driver.  Instead of spending loads of time fixing that problem, I just use PS CS4 when I want to spend an afternoon scanning things. I'm not recommending that "lazy man's" solution, but it is an example of how CS4 and CS5 can be used on the same system.

  • CS4 and CS5 at the same time

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me that; can we keep both Flash[and/or Creative Suite]CS4 and Flash[and/or Creative Suite]CS5 at the same time??? Actually i have both[CS4/CS5] in my machine, but the problem is when i start Flash CS4, it crashes, and sometime Flash CS5 also crashes. • CS4 & CS5 Indy with same serial number

Can CS4 & CS5 Indy with same serial number both be open on the same machine?
    Thanks!

I'm wondering how you have two versions with the same serial number? Volume license maybe?
In the world of single licenses an upgrade from CS4 to CS5 would get a new new number, at least in my experience. As far as installing multiple versions (but not differnt localizations, like US and ME, of the same version) no problem, and I often have multiple versions open at the same time for testing and answereing questions here on the forum.

I have a copy of PS CS5 Creative shop which was causing some difficulties with my computer Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I cancelled the activation of my CS5 and uninstalled. When I tried to reinstall the message showed :"missing file unable to initialize" what do I do.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

  • Uninstall and/or Deactivate CS4 before Installing CS5?

    (Win 7 64, Production Premium CS4)
I know this question has been asked a lot; I've read a dozen threads on the subject but I can't find a definitive answer ... so I thought I'd ask:
Should I uninstall Prod Prem CS4 first, before I install Prod Prem CS5?
Is there a risk that the CS5 upgrade installer won't run, because it doesn't "see" a prior, qualifying version?
(maybe the CS5 installer needs to find certain CS4 files to validate the upgrade?)
    Thank you All.
ps - I'd like to run both versions at once but I'm trying to conserve space on my OS/Apps disk, which is an SSD.
    thanks again,
    Richard

Okay never mind, thanks anyway - I spoke with Adobe Chat Support and got the answer - Adobe recommends keeping the existing version and upgrading next to it, but if you want to conserve space you can uninstall (and deactivate) CS4 first.
The CS5 upgrade installer does not need to "see" any files from a prior version, you simply use your CS4 (or whatever version you're upgrading from) serial number to activate CS5.5.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled CS5 (from the cds) to get Illustrator to open without quitting and that didn't work.  Photoshop opens fine as do most of the others.  There was one that didn't, but I can't remember which one.  I use Illustrator all the time and need help figuring out what to do about it. • I had to reinstall Photoshop CS5 on the same computer but it will not load properly. Where is my .ex

When I reinstalled Photoshop CS 5 on the same computer, my .exe file disappeared. Where is my Photoshop?

There was no icon,no executable file in the programs folder, and no working shortcuts to launch the program after installation. I was installing from a CD, not a downloadable file.
I followed advice from another poster who deleted the PCD cache, uninstalled the program, and reinstalled the program.  I deleted the cache at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache" before uninstalling and reinstalling CS5 and now I have a working program.

  • Can't Update CS5 after uninstall

I am running Windows 7 x64, and I just installed CS5 design standard. I had run into some issues with my font software so I decided uninstall and reinstall. I ran the uninstaller everything was good, I re-installed and it fixed my 3rd party font software, but when I try to update my programs Bridge tells me that I have no updates to install.
I believe when I uninstalled CS5 it didn't unstall the updates, now my programs are not updated.
I know there is a CS5 cleaner and I didn't run it thinking the uninstaller would do it. I am looking for a fix other than re-installing everything a third time.
Thanks in advance for any help!

An update gets removed during uninstall of a product. In this case where you feel like the update is not showing up in the updater (Help>Updates) you can still download to run them explicitly. The return values/log messages of update will clarify if the update is applicable or already applied.
The updates run the same way whether run manually or automatically via help updates, so either way will not have impact on future updates.

  • Why is Bridge CS5.1 showing same .nef file twice?

I just upgraded from CS3 ti CS5.1 last month and since then Bridge will display a few of the .nef files I am working on twice. It seems to be completely at random, a folder with a few hundered .nef files will have 5-10 files that are showing twice. The file names are exactly the same and when you do something to one it does the same thing to the other one. So, I can't delete one of them without deleting both of them. It pulls them into Camera Raw as two seperate files also, still with the same name. It is not duplicating the file on my hard drive when I look at in explorer, just showing up twice in Bridge. Once I have saved them all to jpg to a different folder, I have to go in and delete the jpg duplicates it made. When I first load my .nef files into Bridge everything is good but as I am working on them in Camera Raw these duplicates start apearing and I can't seem to understand why. Running Windows. I have googled the heck out of this and can't seem to find others with this issue.

I wonder why it is doing that in the first place. I've been using CS3 for years, working through a few thousand files a week and never had the issue.
You must have been very lucky with that, I had many issues with CS3 and needed to delete the complete cache and prefs every once in about 6 weeks to start again from scratch...
However, Bridge is my favorite file manager but I have to admit it can be very mysterious also. Sometimes no problems for a long time, sometimes many troubles after each other.
First aid for your issue with strange thumbs is always purge cache, first option cache for folder, second purge complete cache (preferences) and last option delete the whole cache file manually and start rebuilding cache from scratch.
And other strange behavior out of the blue is often solved by restarting Bridge holding down option (Mac) or control (Win) and choose reset preferences.
It sometimes can be a PITA but besides that it is a very useful application

  • Dreamweaver 8 and DW cs4 or DW cs5 on the same system?

    Hi all,
I'm using DW8 + MX Kollection 3.7 pro for large sites and I I'm thinking to install DW CS4 or CS5 along with it.
    So, my question:
can I install DW CS4 + ADDT or DW CS5 (alone) on the same system?
    Do they interfere each other?
I don't mind working on the same website with different version of DW.
But it could happen that I will need to edit a page of a website with a different verison of DW. Is there any problem to do this?
For example: will DW CS4 + ADDT retain all server behaviuors created in DW 8? or, at least, will DW CS4 editing break server behaviour so that I will not able to work again on the page with DW8?
Sorry for all these /dumb) question but I fear upgrading (every application) will break something working right away.
    TIA

Yes, you can install them on the same system, and no, they won't interfere with each other.  Each version of DW installs as a complete, standalone application.

    No there's not a problem.

  • Can you run Photoshop CS3 and CS5 on the same system?

I did this before on another system where I had both CS2 and CS3 installed and I could run either version when I wanted.  Back then I just never bothered to uninstall CS2.
Now on this system I'm tunning CS3 and I have some plug ins I use regularly that aren't compatible with CS5 and I don't want to lay out the cash again for them.  So I'd like to be able to install CS5 and use it primarily but when I need to use the plug ins then just switch to CS3.
I've noticed many programs these days won't run on top of another version.  So is there any reason I won't be able to run both?

Absolutely.  All versions of Photoshop can coexist simultaneously, though you can only run one at a time.
It's usual not to install the old version until you're sure the new one is working great.  If you have the space, never uninstall it.  It's handy to have it around for answering questions, here for example.
