PS CS5 on a Mac, moving cropped images

I'm using CS5 on a Mac, referencing Adobe Photoshop CS5:  Classroom in a Book.  I'm stuck on Ch. 10 "Advanced Compositing".  I cropped, applied and saved 3 images to move to another image.  However, when using the Move tool, the entire images are moved, not just the cropped areas.  What have I missed???  Thank you.

Download and install.  Use the serial number from the disc to activate.

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

I have moved all my contact and applications – inc CS5 – from one Mac Powerbook to another. On the new Mac, when I try to start Photoshop 12.0.4 it is asking for my serial number. I have entered the number off of the back of the box, but it says this number is invalid.  With Illustrator and InDesign I get installation error 5. HELP!

  • Border on Cropped Image

I have a cropped image moving across the screen over a background. I know that I can add a drop shadow but can I add a color edge and how?

This will do what you want. Notice the border option.

  • Can't open DNG files created with Mac CS5 downloader in Mac CS4 Photoshop

I recently installed CS5 on my mac but I kept CS4 installed as well.  I notice that I cannot open DNG files created with CS5 in Photoshop CS4.  Bridge CS4 shows the files only as icons - no image thumbnails.  I am able to open these same files on a Windows version of CS4.  Is there some plugin for my mac CS4 that will enable me to access the DNG files created with CS5?  Is there a way to use my CS5 downloader when converting my raw files from my camera to DNG files that will make them compatiple with PS and Bridge CS4?

Well, yes...but you'll need to modify your DNG Converter prefs to allow for that. You''ll need a recent (ideally current DNG Converter 6.4.1 or above) and click on the DNG Converter preferences and select the correct DNG Converter options. Check DNG Converter 6.4.1 (the current version) and click on "Change Preferences" to be sure select Camera Raw 5.4 and later then make sure CS4 is updated to ACR 5.7 (which is the last version of ACR for CS4) However, the changes made to ACR 6.x really should be adopted since IQ for ACR 6.4.x is a lot better...

  • Cropping Images with Clipping Masks | Learn Illustrator CS6 | Adobe TV

In this video you will learn a quick and easy method for cropping images in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CS5. Using clipping masks allows you to retain the area of the image you cropped out as well as modify the clipping path later on.
    http://adobe.ly/V8tW7S

Is there a way to make a clipping mask for a many-layered image without collapsing all the layers? I'd love to keep my image as is (it's quite complex), I just want to crop the entire thing.
    thanks!

  • Cropping Images with Opacity Masks | Learn Illustrator CS6 | Adobe TV

In this video you will learn a versatile method for cropping images in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CS5. Using opacity masks allows you to retain the area of the image you cropped out, modify the clipping path later, and use complex blending modes, transparencies, and knockout groups.
    http://adobe.ly/V8tTZD

    Firstly great tutorial.
Anyway I initially started a thread in the forums which lead me here regarding the use of opacity masks, I'm having real problems finding a solution to my specific problem.
I've got 2 issues I'm trying to solve, the first is how do I show just a portion an object above another even though it sits in a layer behind.
The second is I have an object with a linear gradient applied and I want to add yet another gradient just to a certain part of that object in order to make it fade out in a certain way.
I've spent hours pouring through the help topics but nothing seems to fit my exact problem, sorry for asking questions here but I'm really stumped and I think an opacity mask would do the trick, I'm just not sure how to execute it.
    Thanks heaps.

  • Image size changes when moving an image between Lightroom and CC.

Image size changes when moving an image between Lightroom and CC.
I opened a .dng image in LR and then opened it in the Develop module.  I clicked on Crop Overlay and then on the ‘As Shot’ drop down menu (the lock is closed) and cropped to 11 x 17 and clicked ‘Done’-.
I click Cntl-E and the image opens in CC.  There I click on Image > Image Size and the Image Size  is 13.288 inches by 20.533 inches.
Why does the image size change?
I believe there is a menu to control the size of the image and I've looked everywhere I can think of in LR and CC, I googled various descriptions and I checked two of Scott Kelby's books, but I just can't figure out how to keep the image a consistent size when moving between LR and CC.
    Help!...Please?

The penny will drop soon or maybe the cloud will lift.
In Lightroom all editing is undoable/nondestructive.
Hence a crop of 3x2 is not inches, centimetres, pixels or anything else. It is jst a ratio. When a file is exported, either to PS or disk, then the crop ratio has size determined in respect of pixels and inches or cms.
So my 6000x5000 pixel image I will crop to 3x2 that leaves (before exporting) a 6000x4000 file.
Now when exported it can be set to export at
100pixels per inch and will end up at 60x40" when printed.
200pixels per inch will end up at 30x20"
    300ppi will end at 20x13.3"
You will notice in the Crop Tool there are no size denominations such as inches or centimetres as an image file only has pixels and the determination of size is done through exporting or printing.
    Hope that helps somewhat..

  • Ease of rotating and cropping images in CS6

There is much I like about the new crop: Rotating the image instead of the box is SO much easier and the straighten option is a great time saver.
But in one instance, I'm finding cropping in CS6 to be harder: Cropping images that are not correctly oriented in the first place.  Rotating an image 90-degrees was a snap in CS2: Alt-I/E/0.  The shortcut keys are gone in CS6, so using the rotation command is no longer quick.
But I can do it in the crop box, right?  True -- but not easily.  The image is landscape, the crop box is portrait.  With the crop tool selected, holding the shift key down to get fixed-increment rotations doesn't work: Pressing the SHIFT key changes the cursor from rotation to the crop cursor.  To get the rotation, I have to start rotating the image and then press SHIFT to get 15-degree increments.  A few moments later, I have rotated the image into portrait orientation -- and the crop box is now centered on the image, but it is set to crop the middle.  I have to drag the handles out to get approximately what I want: The full image in the crop box.  (What I want is what I would get if I rotate the image with the Rotate command, then control-zero to fill the screen, and then select the crop tool.)
We rotate a lot of images.  It's easy to do in CS2 and the two approaches I've found for CS6 are both awkward.  The new crop tool has replaced the dual arrows in older versions (to swap the horizontal and vertical sizes) with a rotation arrow.  I think you should restore the arrows (and their function) -- then use the rotate button to rotate the image, not the crop box.  (Isn't that the design center for the new crop box?  We're moving the image, not the crop box.)

Howard, thanks for the tip about the X key; didn't realize it worked that way when the crop tool is active.  But in this case I had set the crop box dimenions, so the crop box starts out with the correct orientation.  Having played with this for a day, I conclude that the best approach for this task is to restore the old keyboard conventions for image rotation and rotate the image before launching the crop tool.
I stand by my observation that the rotate key should affect the image, not the crop box because that is consistent with the new cropping paradigm: We rotate the image, not the crop box.  I realize making a change this late in the development cycle is awkward -- but if CS6 ships with this behavior, it will become even harder to change later -- and the user interface should be as consistent as possible.
Noel, you are correct: The images are coming from scanned film.  All frames get scanned with the same orientation.  I want to avoid the "Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this.  Doctor: Then don't do that!" scenario.  Granted: If images are "correctly" oriented, this issue doesn't arise.  But not all images are oriented correctly and CS6 should be at least as graceful in handling the task as previous versions.

  • LR4 beta white balance on cropped images

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, I could not find a post with silimar issues.
LR4 Beta 64 on WinVista : Nex 5N raw files
WB picker on a cropped image seems to give variable (and wrong) results
I wanted to tweak WB an image that I'd previously cropped and made some adjustments to....WB was already close, the picker on a white fishing bouy was at ~90/88/91. Clicking the picker on bouy gave a strong red shift, about +5 on the red.
1st time I did it I thought I'd jerked the mouse somewhere, tried it again.. and again with similar results. Repeated several time.
I opened LR3 and had no problems with the same image.
I reopened LR4B and got the same problem again.
Undid the crop and the WB adjustment was fine.
I went back to LR3 and cropepd the same image the same way and WB was fine.
Went back to Lr4B and again, WB was off.
I reset the image so that it had no other adjustments. WB was OK but again when I cropped it it was off.
Opened another image and did the same thing. ie full image WB was OK, cropped I got a +5 or so shift, although this time in blue.
Tried it with a different crop and got a -15 on red.
WB zoom level was at max

    Eric,
Take just about any photo and crop so all the sides are moved toward the middle. It isn't hard to find a point on the image where the white balance dropper looks like it's over a near-grey(and its numbers say near-grey), but when you click, the picture gets an extreme colour cast. And the point where you click doesn't go grey, either, but moves much farther from grey.
    Here's the crop:
Here's what happens when the eyedropper is over the almost-grey snow:
Note what's happening in the Navigator preview. It's as if the eyedropper were over the yellow jacket, but the numbers on the loupe show grey.

In Camera Raw? The Workflow options are now responsible for actual image size. See Julianne Kost's blog post. (There's a video that discusses this in detail at the beginning there as well.)

  • Moving an image in a drop zone

Is there any way of moving an image in a drop zone? at the moment its cropping the top half of a still image?

You can customize the shape, size, and position of a button in any menu but not drop zones unfortunately. In order to do this you'd need to modify the app itself. Most iLife users aren't up to such a task.
Might be easier to simply start with DvdSP (part of Apple's FCS 2). As complicated as DVDSP is, I believe it may be easier to learn apple's pro apps, as opposed to the actual hack for such modifications within iDvd.

  • Upgraded to CS5 running Yosemite (mac os 10.10), upgraded scanner Epson Perfection Photo 700, click on "import" and CS5 is not showing scanner dlick on "import" in photoshop

upgraded to CS5 running Yosemite (mac os 10.10), upgraded scanner Epson Perfection Photo 700 software--when i click on "import" CS5 is not showing scanner--what do i have to do to get it to recognize scanner?

    Hi Gene,
Persistence pays off: so initially, CS5 was not recognizing my Epson Perfection Photo V700. I reloaded the Epson software twice and using the mac menu for printers and scanners tried to get it to operate. no dice.  Finally, on the third try, I went to Finder to look under applications software, found the epson software and clicked on that, and finally got the Epson scan window to open. So now, even tho i can't open it from inside CS5, i can still get the image into CS5 easily by clicking on "open" and going to finder. (Still good to know about Vuescan tho.)

  • PPro CS5 GUI on mac really jerky

Moving clips around on the timeline of CS5 on the mac is like playing Russian roullette; you never know where the clip is actually going to fall. It's like the interface has a refresh rate of 5fps or something. It seems to take forever for clips to snap against each other, and this lag causes the user to think something is wrong and then move the clips around more than necessary.
Please please tell me that this will be addressed in a point release. I don't want to have to pay to upgrade for a solution to a problem that should never have made it to a full release.

    Hi Jeremy,
here, when snapping is turned on, the region goes all kind of places (Tries to snap) which is expected (By me at least)
however, when turning off snapping and just attempting to drag the region from i.e. left to right it feels like it wants to stick to the position where it was previous located. I work fast and scoot regions about all the time. 50% of time I drop the region where I 'thought' it would be in the correct location (Based on the graphical region-representation) but after letting go, the region will position itself differently.
At the moment I am resorting to alt+arrow-moving the region to get rid of this nuisance!!!
Jeremy, if you want to get the feel that would LOVE to be in PPRO then do this
    1) Open AE
    2) Create a new Comp
    3) Create a new null and set in & outpoint so that it is shorter than the comp... (So that you can drag it about)
    4) Drag it from left to right etc etc etc... and take note of that feeling.
Now, go into PPRO and start dragging. You will immediately feel that something is wrong (or better yet, NOT conforming to standard)
AE is conforming to a standard that I have come to know the past 10 working with either NLEs and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) Pretty much, ANY app that has a timeline and regions to move about in it...
PS - Dont wanna coma across as if PPRO aint GREAT. It IS.... Perhaps, THE MOST intuitive NLE I have ever worked with. However, this little drag-thing is really a nuisance...
    To OP...
THere a MANY ways of positioning a region in PPRO...
Grab a cup of cappuccino and take a close look at all the shortcuts available.
There is but ONE missing and I would call it 'Move Clip to PlayHead'
I would JUMP HOOPS to get that short cut. Basically, all it would do is to place a video clip's (already in the timeline) start or end point right at the playhead. That feature would save my life --- HEY... If I have MISSED it and it is already possible, PLEASE -- Make my day and tell me how
You can find one 'Move Playhead to Cursor' which is saving me hours per day.
You will have to assign your own key to it (Not pre-assigned) but what it will do is that where ever your mouse cursor is hovering it will place the playhead. and THAT get really fun if you keep the shortcut depressed. That enables Turbo-shuttling with the mouse as Jog. (Little off topic, sorry)
Anyway, the point is that in the keycommands there are stuff hidden that can change your workflow. I.e. Opt+LeftArrow will move the selected clip left in time. If you, like me, a lot times wanna drag the clip about 5 frames you are really getting frustrated by PPRO and mouse-dragging. Instead, select the clip and hit opt+Left Arrow 5 times OR opt+sht+LeftArrow to move the clip 5 frames left !

In the maunual, this is the last line in the instructions.  "When cropping images, completely remove the borders to reduce excess light interference."
What does this mean?  Do you have to remove the fromes from the slides before scanning or does the attachment hold the slide in it's frame?  What does cropping images refer to -  the digital copy or the original frame that you are copying from?
