PS CS5: select color range not working properly

The color range is a grate command but it doesn't work properly when dragging the eye dropper across the image. This is especially noticeable with a low range value. When you start the selection (without pressing the shift key) and drag across the image only the end point is selected instead of the whole trace. Second, when dragging with the shift key pressed not the trace is added to the selection but a rectangular area. You can easily try this out by creating any one color image and lower the range value to about 5.
In my opinion this is a bug or am I missing something?

When you start the selection (without pressing the shift key) and drag across the image only the end point is selected instead of the whole trace.
This behavior is as designed. When you make a selection without holding the shift key, and you have the first eyedropper selected in the menu (the one that doesn't have a plus or minus sign) you are a making an initial selection on the image. If you hold and drag this selection, it will just change the initial selection to match whatever destination you prefer on the image.
Second, when dragging with the shift key pressed not the trace is added to the selection but a rectangular area.
I can reproduce this behavior, too. I believe this is also as designed, because the range is too small to make an organic looking selection. I think the more standard workflow is to start with the range high (100%), make the selection of the localized color area you want to mask, and then reduce the range value as needed.
Color Range isn't terribly intuitive to me, but it can be a powerful selection tool. Photoshop Evangelist Russell Brown has a really good tutorial on Adobe TV about using color range. Have you seen this before?

i have been using adobe photoshop for over 10 years and suddenly, when i try to select color range, nothing is showing up as selected. even with a simple black and white image, with white or black as the sampled color, nothing gets selected. i don't if something changed in the application or if it is somehow not working correctly on mine. please help.

We are facing an issue with select() in Solaris 10. we had written a sample program to this issue.
Program name :- sel.cpp
int main()
struct timeval sleeptime;
sleeptime.tv_sec = 60;

select(0,NULL,NULL,NULL,&sleeptime);

return 0;
When i run this program in Solaris 9, its printing 1 and after one minute its printing 2.
When i run this program on Solaris 10, its printing 1 and 2 without waiting for 60 seconds.
When i tried to print tv_usec, its printing as 0 in solaris 9 and some garbage values in solaris 10.
I think because of that the above select function is not working properly in solaris 10.
Why the tv_usec is not taking 0 as default values in Solaris 10?
We are using our legacy code for past 20 years. So, before going to do any changes we are trying to find why this happenig like this.

It sounds to me that you've been lucky for 20 years then.
Local POD variables on the stack that aren't explicitly initialized can contain any value. Here's what I see in your app with dbx

CS5 - Mixer Brush - Wetness not working properly

Hi,
I'm using the trial version of Photoshop CS5 Extended.
I'm very excited about the new Bristle Brushes and the Mixer Brush. I think, a nice job was done on these features. However, I think the "wetness" attribute of the Mixer brush is not working as it is intended. I would expect that low setting of wetness would cause the brush to interact less with the underlying color. At the moment, when set to 0% wetness, the Mixer Brush does not interact at all with the underlying color but at 1% wetness it fully interacts with the canvas. There is no perceivable difference between 1%, 50% or 100% wetness. I think this should be fixed in order to enable the full power of the Mixer Brush.
Apart from that, the new brushes are just awesome. It is the most haptic and expressive brush engine I've ever used.

This seems to be a problem with the Bristle Brushes only and is quite annoying considering that the Bristle Brushes are practically made for the Mixer Brush. Other brushes seem to use the Wetness slider just fine. Here's an example:
I hope Adobe fixes this in a patch.

Color Dodge not working properly

For some reason color dodge has never worked properly in my version of Illustrator. I'm using Illustrator CC 2014. I'm trying to do different lighting effects for a project for work and it just is NOT behaving like normal color dodged items. I go to the transparency drop down and change it to dodge but, the blacks don't fade into the background and the white turns to a solid. It should have the darks fade into the back color and the grays turn to color and the brightest white shine through.

Oh my goodness. Thank you! That worked. I've been on the phone with an Adobe guy for an hour and a half. He kept on insisting it wasn't my document's settings but, I had a feeling it was, because other people's documents with that effect were working. Just not ones I created. I wonder why not a single tutorial I found mentioned that this effect might only worked in RGB?
Is there a way to do it in CMYK? Does it work right for you when you do it in Illustrator? Does it only work in RGB?

Color correction not working properly with Vista?

I am developing an AIR application for our camera club. It’s important that it will display corrected colors – consistent with colors displayed by Adobe Photoshop.
The ActionScript code includes call to:
stage.colorCorrection = ColorCorrection.ON;
I have PC Vista. The main panel of the application displays thumbnails and can be scrolled down. When displayed first, the colors are not corrected. However while scrolling down the thumbnails, the colors are correct and identical to the ones displayed by Photoshop. These revert back to the uncorrected colors when stopping the scrolling.
When double clicking on the thumbnail the full size image is displayed by PopUpManager. Its colors are correct – consistent with the Photoshop.
Any idea what’s happening? Why are the colors flickering?
I am using Flex 3 SDK, Flex 4 has the same issue.
I have Flash Player 10. I color calibrated my monitor and have a valid ICC profile.

CS5.1 scaling tool not working properly

The scaling tool is working oddly. If I scale it something down (like a logo) - even with the shift held down and scale it back up - it is all distorted. Is there something that I need to turn off or on? Because the scale tool isn't working properly it is destroying logos. I'm not new to illustrator so unless something in the program has changed I'm not doing anything I haven't always done - without the bad effects.

InDesign CS5.5 Style sheets not working properly

Hello,
I'm checking out a trial version of InDesign CS5.5 and am creating some paragraph style sheets that don't seem to be working. When assigning the latest style I've created to a paragraph, it changes the color I've spec'd, but not the typeface. I open up the style to make sure I've selected the typeface, and it's in order. It just won't style the paragraph with it. What might be going on?

to force a paragraph style with all defined attributes to a paragraph regardless of local formatting and applied character styles, hold the "alt" + "shift" keys when applying the paragraph style.
If you want to preserve character styles and overwrite local formatting, then hold the "alt" key when applying the paragraph style.

Secondary Color Correction not working properly!

Hi,
when i apply RGB Curves and Three Way Color Correction (or any other color grading effect) and try to use the secondary color correction to limit my changes just to the skin tone for exemple, the effect don't respect the secondary sample and apply the effect to the entire clip. Most of the times i do a color grading and then work on my skin tones separately, but i'm not able to in PR.
I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2014.1! I had the same problem with PP CC 2014 and the weird thing is that at my work this works normally.

Range not working properly

I have a report that will not return the proper records when use parameters of From product and through product. In my products table I have some parts that start with 0-xxx and 00-xxx where xxx is additonal alphanumeric characters along with some other part numbers. Example 0-42245-90 and 00-4790-0012-01C.
If I enter a from product of 0 and a through product of 00-5333 I would expect both of these to show up but only part 00-4790-0012-01C does. If I enter a from product of 0-42245-90 and a through product of 00-4790-0012-01C then no records are shown but I expect both. If I enter a from product of 0 and a through product of 1a then both parts show, as expected. I sorted the report in product order and the 0-42245-90 product comes before 00-4790-0012-01C if they both show so I think I'm sure I enter the parameter values correctly. My question is why doesn't crystal show all the records it should?
I think it is a bug because I ran the SQL that Crystal generated in the SQL connectivity tool and all recordes expected were returned no matter what range values I entered

I thought I gave examples of ranges already but here's more:
If I leave the from product blank (or enter just a zero) and enter 00-4790-0012-01C in the thru product then I get 00-4790-0012-01C but I expect to get 0-42245-90 too. If I enter full product values of 0-42245-90 for the from product and 00-4790-0012-01C for the thru product then I still only get 00-4790-0012-01C. If I leave the from product blank and enter a thru products of ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ then I get all my products.
For whatever reason it looks like Crystal is thinking that 00-4790-0012-01C comes before 0-42245-90 when doing record selection but if you have a sort in the report Crystal puts 0-42245-90 before 00-4790-0012-01C. If I run any of the queries that are not successfully showing 0-42245-90 outside of Crystal, the SQL tool has both 0-42245-90 and 00-4790-0012-01C as expected.

Select List - checkbox not working properly

Can anyone help? I'm able to insert one record into the table with the code listed below, if I select only one checkbox. I get this error message, if I select more than one checkbox: ORA-01722: invalid number ORA-02063: Error ERR-1003 Error executing computation query . Note - Employee number is numeric in table. Copy Function is Not Working properly In Order Management

Hi,
Description-
When an order with remnant model is copied, it copied only the topple model line and they include items attached to the top model line. It doesn’t copy the
option class lines and the option item lines (unshipped and shipped).
Example-
Enter an order with for pd-pto-model. See order#21231.The ordered quantities and structure of the model is shown below:
pd-pto-model 5 qty
pd-std-item1 (included item) 5 qty
pd-pto-oc (option class) 5 qty
pd-std-item1 (included item with rfr checked) 5 qty
pd-std-item2 (option item with rfr checked) 5 qty
pd-std-item3 (option item) 5 qty
Booked the order and pick relased the order. While shipconfirming only shipped 5 qty of pd-std-item3 and staged the rest. On querying the sales order, the line status is seen correctly as follows:
pd-pto-model Closed
pd-std-item1 (included item) Picked
pd-pto-oc (option class) Closed
pd-std-item1 (included item with rfr checked) Picked
pd-std-item2 (option item with rfr checked) Picked

Copied this order from the order header. The new order# is 21232.On querying the order, I see only 2 lines as follows:pd-pto-model.

I suppose you mean the Color Settings in Project Settings as follows:
- Working Space: None
- Match Legacy ... Gamma Adjustments checked ON
But it does not correct the colors in effects. And checking or unchecking Make Movie/Output Module Settings/Color Management/Profile/Preserve RGB does not make any difference.

Those parts of the video image that does not have color effects are just fine. In these parts the color is preserved when reimporting to FCP. However, those parts having color effects (except Levels, as decribed earlier) have altered color results. So, only the parts having effects affecting color are misinterpreted in the image area. The mismatch is of course seen in AE, before making the movie.
What I ment with "Color Management not working properly" is that (instead of "disabling" it) Color Management does not seem to be able to correct this "misinterpretation" or difference in effect handling between AE 6 and 10.
So, would you have any solution for this problem?
