PS CS6: cropping in portrait modus?

Hi,
see my screeenshot in Adobe CS6, Photoshop -- cropping an area in portrait size 2x3 and NOT landscape 3:2.
Why ignores PS this setting and shows me first a landscape area in 3:2 instead of the chosen portrait area in 2:3?
Yes, I can rotate the selection via "x" -- but that's cumbersome.
Any help?
mtemp

From your screen shot, it looks like you're using CS6.  They have made a lot ot improvements on cropping in CC.  CS6 was a big change in the cropping style, and did have some issues. You can change the direction of the crop by clicking on the round arrow by the aspect ratio.  It is confusing as the numbers don't change.  They will still read 3X2.  Most people would assume the first to be the horizontal direction, but this doesn't seem to be the case with CS6,  It's fixed in CC.

I am trying to crop a portrait photo into 6x4 portrait ready for printing.  I am using Iphoto on a Macbook Pro.  Everytime I try and crop the photo, it crops in Landscape which cuts out most of the photo.  Is there any way of resolving this?  I am new to Macs as I am currently switching from MS.  It is very easy to do this in MS photo editor so I can't believe it can't be easily done in Iphoto!

  • Cs6 crop question , not classic

    Hi
i have a question about photoshop cs6 crop tool not classic
i really  like the not classic crop tool
    but i have a problem
the classic crop tool if i drag it to left photoshop moves the crop to the left , and if i drag to the right it moves to the right
but in the new version if i drag it to the left  it moves to the right
    ok ,it's just like lightroom
i tried to get used to the new behavior with no luck
is there a way , edit the registry or other way to change this behavior?
i mean i really love the new crop feature , i would love to use it and drag the crop to left and see photoshop moves to the left just like every other version of photoshop
    thanks
    best regards

If I understand what you're saying, what is confusing to you is that when you drag, you are moving the image itself underneath the selection, as opposed to moving the selection over the image.  Drag to the left and you're moving the image to the left under the selection, so the selection remains stationary in its position relating to the window, but the selection is now positioned to the right of its original position relative to the image.
    That's just the new behavior.
However, if instead of dragging from the somewhere inside your selection, you drag from one of the handles of the selection, the direction of the stretching of your selection will appear more like what yiu are used to, particularly if you are set to Fit Image on Screen.
If you play around with that a bit, you'll get the hang of itin no time.

Aaaaah, that is where your problem lies!
You either like the new Crop Tool, or you like the old, Classic mode.  You can't have a little bit of one and another little bit of the other one.

  • Photoshop CS6 Cropping and Text Tool Issues

    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Mac OS 10.7.4
    RAM: 24GB
    GPU: NVidia GTX285
Is anyone experiencing really messed up things when using the Crop or Type Tool in the new Photoshop CS6?
    ...for cropping:
If I crop to a (for instance) 5x7, it doesn't actually crop to a 5x7. Instead it crops to the ratio of a 5x7, but not an actual solidly measured 5x7.
    ...for text:
typing all of my font backwards (i.e. "sdrawkcab" instead of "backwards")
fixing all symbols I add to the front of the text line only (i.e. "© Copyright 2012"  instead of "Copyright © 2012")
    switching the place of numbers as well (i.e. "2012 5th 6" instead of "6 5th 2012")
    What is going on here?

Flash is the only program that does this, on indesign the
problems were different and had to do with screen colors and that
was solved by changing color mode from "aereo" to vista basic.
I will try reinstalling flash, although i don't see why it
    will solve he reinstall.
Thank you and if you hear any other person having this issue,
    please share it.

  • Photoshop CS6 cropping tools is not good

    Hi!
Everyone who is using Adobe Photoshop CS6 product, the cropping tool is not good as when I try to crop the image moves but not the cropping tool which makes confusing and time consuming.
When I have to print an emergency photo I have to do it within 5 minutes but that cropping tool always makes me confused. Thats why I didn't like photoshop CS6. Currently I am using CS5 product. The next crop tool works better but when I try to move it, image will go misleading.
My question is how you are managing it???
    Thnx

If you ask nicely, the development engineers might provide a single button that toggles back to 'Luddite' mode.   I am not being smug, because I had a wee hissy fit when I first encountered the new Crop tool in the CS6 beta, but I versy soon changed my mind and love it to bits now.  Give them a proper try out and see if you can get used to the new tools.

  • CS6 Crop Tool Progress Slow (Stalls)

What do I have to do to fix this?  It wasn't doing this before on the same machine, with the same configuration.
I have CS6 installed on a Mac Pro desktop, 3.3 Ghz dual-core processor, 6 GB RAM, several physical drives configured as scratch disks, and no other applications running. I CAN'T be running out of RAM.
The files I'm cropping are .PSD files, no larger than 34 Mb in size.  I can't even crop a web-res image - the progress bar grinds to a near halt half way through a simple crop.  The machine has not locked up and PS does respond to "cancel" commands.
Graphics card is an nVidia GE Force 8800 GT, and the drivers are the latest from nVidia.
I've restarted the machine and restarted PS.
Delete Photoshop preference file and try it again?
    Any suggestions?

  • CS6 Crop Tool - Fine Adjustments

The crop tool in CS6 is vexing me a bit.  It seems I can't rotate the crop window as finely as I could in CS5.  When I grab a corner and rotate it moves from 0.0 to 0.6.  I frequently need finer adjustments when cropping.  Something like a 0.1 or 0.2 degre rotation.
I crop every image (film scans.)  This is frustrating.

Probably not going to help you, but holding down the Control Key I can get 0.1 degree accuracy when rotating the crop. The method I have adopted is to hold the Control Key down and slowly drag sort of sideways with a slight upward or downward motion and this works for me. I have noticed I need to do this very slowly and deliberately, else it jumps to a much higher value.
Maybe this works as I have eliminated mouse acceleration in the control panel? Have not tried this with my Wacom yet as I have yet to install the drivers on my new system
    Hope this helps

  • What is wrong with CS6 crop?

I can't understand why they removed the 3rd box for resolution that they had before, after width and height.
It seems to have screwed up the way crop works.  sometimes, I type in numbers such as 12 x 9 inches and some other crop happens.
I had created a crop that was 1024 points by 672 points and resolution 72.  I saved it under the suggested name.
Later it was determined that I needed 1024x672  with resolution 96 instead.
I did a trial crop and I could see that the size resulting of over 12x9 inches was too large.
I go to the images size menu and see that its says 1365 x 865 points at resolution 96. If I change the resolution to 72, after first checking resample, THEN the top reads 1024x672 points.  and the file size is 1.97meg, which it is supposed to be instead of 3.5 as it said before.
    So it is still cropping as 1024 x 672 x 72, but showing it as 1365x 865 x 96.
I deleted both saved crops and made a new one.  No difference.  I restarted CS6 and tried again.  No matter what, it won't allow this new crop with the correct parameters.  Cropping used to be so simple till they "improved" the function.

Seems like a GPU problem. Can you try going into Photoshop Preferences, disable GPU acceleration and try if that fixes it?

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Crops My PSD Layers

I am trying to import a PSD CS6 file which has been setup with the film and video preset. When I import this file which has 16 layers (some, which are inside the canvas area of the file and some, which are outside the canvas area of the file) into Premiere CS6, the image is cropped to the canvas size. This makes it so that I cannot view the entire photoshop file and I cannont pan around the image. Does anyone understand what I am trying to do and how to fix this? It is easy to do when going from Photoshop to FCP.

You need to keep everything inside the Photoshop canvas.
If you want to pan around make the PS file twice the size.

  • CS6 crop and straighten causes error message - "An error has occurred"

Running CS6 on a windows 7 desktop machine. When I try to crop and straighten a 4 image scanned image I get "An error has occurred" I do not get this error on my laptop. I have uninstalled and re-installed CS6 with no change in error message. I have reset the preferences and still the same error. Any suggestions?

Starting Photoshop without plug-ins solved the problem. Is there a way to
find out which plug-in is the problem? Copy them to another folder and add
them one at a time back into the plug-in folder until the problem re-occurs?

  • ACR CS6 crop locked at 3:2 constrain

After opening a RAW file in ACR CS6, Win 7, the outline is constrained to a 3:2 box.  When I drag down, it's a vartical 3:2 box.  I try clicking on the crop icon at top, but there's no response.  There's no drop down menu when I click the icon.  Otherwise, ACR works fine, using the 2012 methods.  Setting to the 2010 algorithm doesn't help.
What's wrong?  How can I reset it?

Click and hold on the the Crop Tool icon, and set it to Normal.

  • CS6 crop question

In cs5 I could have my crop box outside my image border and it would crop only the image without adding negative space, has this been removed? Or is there a  setting in CS6?

Using the Crop Tool in that manner expands the canvas accounting for the white space.
You may want to use the Marquee Tool to select the area you want to crop and use the Image > Crop command.

  • CS6 - Crop handles and bounderies does not go away

When I crop in CS6 and then press enter, the crop marks/handles and bounderies stay on the document. In earlier versions I just had to press Enter and the crop was accepted! Now it seems that I'm forced to press Enter and then go to the move tool in the tool palette to deselect the whole thing. Very annoying. What's happening?

I'm forced to press Enter and then go to the move tool in the tool palette to deselect the whole thing.
Hitting V should achieve that without moving the cursor.
You could also hit cmd-H to just hide it.
If you are done with cropping why would you want to keep the Tool selected?

  • CS6: cropping bitmaps in lower resolution, then applying to original bitmaps?

    Hi,
as first step I have to crop over 1000 images (JPEGs) and saving the cropped areas as new JPGs (same filename, new directory).
So I open e.g. 100 images of them -- each 5 MB -- in Photoshop, select the area to which I want to crop to image, switch to the next image and repeat these two steps. After that I crop the images, save and close them with an "Action" automatically.
Question: is there a possibility NOT working with the original high-resolution bitmaps but with lower ones and afterwars let Photoshop (action, script, ...) apply my individual croppings/selections to the original files?
Advantage: less memory needed (RAM) resulting in a better performance.
At the moment, opened 100 images:
    Thanks!

There is a  big difference between what you write and reality. Your way you have to wait for the 100 images documents you select to be open in Photoshop. Then manually make the crop, them  manually save out a the new image where you want it saved. Then  manually close the document. And you must manually do those three  manual steps 99 more time. For a total of 300 manual steps.
With  the Image processor and action. You set the image processor dialog for the process and click OK, Then select the 100 crops areas by transforming the crop selection everything else is automated.
Interactive means you control the crop selection the action just initiates the interactive selection process for you..  I often do this by recordings a selection of some aspect ratio. Then record transform selection rotating it 180. Followed by recording Image crop as the actions last step.  Then I  turn on the transform selection step dialog to make that step interactive. When the action is played you get to set the selection by manually transforming the selected  area. That will be the area cropped....
The Image process processor Opens each image one at a time. The action sets up a selection which you transform for the crop. The action then crops the document. Then the script  saves out the new document and closes the original document and moves onto the next image document.
All you do manually is make 100 transform everything else is automated. 100 manual operation rather then 300 manual operations
Both ways 100 image documents are opened, 100 image are cropped,  100 image documents are saved and 100 image document are closed. .
300 manual steps will take more time then  100 manual steps. Your write up left out 200 required manual steps. The save and closes operation required.

  • CS6 cropping

How do I turn the crop tool back to what it was like in CS5? and please don't say go into classic mode as this is not the same, the new crop tool is absolutely HORRIBLE like mind bogglingly HORRIBLE I crop at my work all day and this is just ridculous. Please change it back my sanity demands it.
"If it aint broke don't fix it" kind of pops into my head when thinking of this change.
