PS CS6 Edit commands grayed out to copy / cut objects and layers?

Why are my edit commands (copy and cut) grayed out / unavailable? When trying to copy a selected layer or object, all my editing commands are grayed out and unavailable. No idea why. Even if I convert something to a smart object, no joy. The only thing I seem to be able to select and copy/cut/paste is text in the text edit mode. makes no sense and is rendering PS unusable. How do I fix this?

Your seeing the transform handles with the move tool.
Try something like this:
Open an image
Click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool in the tool box
(just below or to the left of the move tool in the tool box)
(or press M on the keyboard)
Draw a selection (marching ants)
Edit>Copy
Edit>Paste
You should end up with a new layer with the copied contents from within the selection

Not only that, but I've also found that iCal and Mail will no longer launch, either. The iCal calendar pane and the Mail main window open, but the beach ball spins forever. I've never seen this before. Any ideas?
I tried a different account on the same computer. No problems there.

If you are having issues turning on Always Allow for cookies in Safari on your iPad, you may want to check to make sure that you don't have Private Browsing enabled, as noted in the following article:

No need to post something more than once.
The first thing I would do is to uninstall and reinstall. If you have any products from Norton/Symantec, disable those before reinstalling. You can turn them back on again afterwards.

Edit with command grayed out

Hi all,
One of my Flash designers is having an issue with his flash.
In the past, he was able to right click on a PSD and edit it via
photoshop, but now the command is grayed out.
The version of Flash is CS3 (we haven't moved to 4 yet) and
the Version of OS is 10.5.6 (latest with all updates of about a
week ago.
Any suggestions on how I would be able to get this
functionality back would be helpful.

update: In an older file the option works... In his current

Edit button grayed out

I'm using Acrobat 10.1.13 on Mac OS X 10.9.5.
I have a form I created in Acrobat seven or eight years ago and have been using successfully since. I have edited it several times in the past. Today, I went to edit it and the Form Edit button is grayed out, for no apparent reason I can see. It is the only form option that is grayed out.
I searched the forum for similar reports; I examined the security and advanced security panels (nothing found, but I unchecked even the basic security that was there); I checked the document PDF/A setting (set it to "Never"), and it hasn't helped. I tried to "Save a copy" as recommended by another posting -- I found only "Save as... PDF," and when I tried that I was told "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document (14)."
I can still edit the document and i can still print it (though I have to use Preview to print, because since I upgraded to Acrobat 10 I always get "The document count not be printed / There were no page selected to print" when I try to print from Acrobat, and have been unable to resolve that, either).
The form does pretty intricate inter-field computations, so it would be a serious effort to recreate from scratch.
Is there any way I can get this working again?

Edit functions grayed out in QT 7 Pro?

MY digital camera .avi files are editable within QT 7 Pro, until I save them, and they become .mov files. Then, I cannot edit or resave. All of these functions are grayed out. I have tried saving as "save", "save as", always as self-contained. I never had this problem in QT 6 Pro, or maybe before I upgraded my system software to OX 10.4.5.
Any suggestions?

I have a couple of "thoughts" (maybe not answers).
Do a get Info (command-I) on one of the saved .mov files. Look under permissions. See if for some reason you lost ownership. Click the little padlock icon and unlock it. Change permissions so that you are the owner and you have read write privileges. The other thought is, though it says it is a mov file, the actual file type may be otherwise. Try exporting your avi instead of saving it. Export as a QT movie. Try Movie to MPEG 4. Then see if you still have the same problem with that exported file. For some very difficult avi files, I convert it to DV (export to QT movie - DV). It's large but I can quickly edit it down (smoother and easier to edit in DV than avi) then re-export that finished file using one of the better compression codecs, like QT MPEG 4 or H264, or DivX if you have it (which I prefer).

Preview Commands Grayed Out

The commands in the daughter menus of the Tools > Mark Up and Tools > Annotate commands in Preview are always grayed out.
This does not change, regardless of tool selected or whether a portion of the image has been highlighted or not.
It does not matter whether a JPEG or a PNG image is the current file opened.
Similarly, the "Select" and "Annotate" buttons do not work. Clicking on the "Select" button has no effect, and the "Annotate" button is stuck on the elliptical shape and does not drop down, either.
This was precipitated I think by Mac OS X 10.5.6. It was an update on my MacBook, and it came pre-installed in my iMac. Both macs exhibit this problem since 10.5.6.

I just tried it on several pdf files.
On some, the text markup is not an option - presumably the "text" is not really text but a graphic. On those documents the markup options are grayed out as in yours.
On other pdf docs which clearly have text, if I select a line of text and then choose tools->Mark Up, the options are not grayed out.
I think it's a matter of whether the "text" to be marked up is actually text or a graphic image of text, which is not the same thing.

Ipod set to manual, video options grayed out, no copying

First, I was experimenting, which is why I am having the following issue. My ipod 30gig Video was formatted on Windows XP when purchased. I decided I wanted the new update, but to do that I had to get rid of everything and use the iPod CD to convert the iPod to a Mac format. I used PodUtil and copied every song and video purchased from Mac and stored them on my computer hard drive. The format to mac was flawless, even re-importing all the songs and videos into my iTunes library. I copied all the songs back into my iPod, no problems. Problem now...none of the Clone Wars, Avatar or other videos will copy to my iPod. I can highlight all of them , drag them to the ipod and get the green plus sign, but no copying occurs. Under iPod>options>videos, everything is grayed out. I can't choose anything. Under iPod>options>Music, it is set to manage playlists and music manually. So, how can I get my legally purchased Mac videos into my iPod now? Videos I have edited in Final Cut Pro and exported in the iPod format copy over flawlessly. For a tedious solution, I could import all the videos bought from apple into final cut pro and re-export them as iPod formats and then import the newly converted versions back into my iPod, but there is no garauntee that will work. Any ideas ?

Hold down the ⌥ and ⌘ keys while connecting your iPod. Keep them down until iTunes has opened and your iPod shows in the Source list.

"Edit" Functions Grayed Out and No Longer Work

I have CS5 and have used it for several years now and it has served me well but suddenly, I find that many options (such as most "Edit" options within it are noy grayed-out and non-functional. I've uninstalled it and re-installed but the problem is still there. I can no longer find a phone number to get tech help like I used to and am now totally stuck with a useless product. Does anyone know a fix here?

Jerry, thanks for the screen shots. As JJMack said, a preference reset might work. You might want to go to actions>edit on your post and remove the second picture. Looks like it has some personal info on it.
Try resetting the Photoshop preference file: Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

Page Editing Tools Grayed Out

I have a PDF with no secuirty restrictiosn for editing, etc. I am trying to crop and rotatate the document in Acrobat Pro X, and these tools are "grayed" out. Why are they grayed out?

Then that is the answer to your question. You asked these tools are "grayed" out. Why are they grayed out? . The answer is in the box: "The file you have opened complies with the PDF/A standard and has been opened as read-only to prevent modification. .
PDF/A files, while they are not formally secured (AND cannot be secured) are considered final, so editing of them is locked out. I think you can turn this off in preferences, but be sure you understand the implications on the PDF/A status.

Edit Window Grayed Out

When selecting a photo from thumbnails the program highlights the thumbnail, but then when I select the Edit button the photo shows up for a second, then the edit portion of the screen grays out replacing the photo with a framed question mark.
The last change made to my system was to reorginize photos, creating folders, etc, using my Mac HD window. The changed structure shows the photos there, but in iPhoto some of these folders appear empty.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
You have broken the golden rule of iPhoto: Never tamper with items in the iPhoto Library folder from inside the Finder. Any changes you make to the folders and files in the iPhoto Library folder break the links between your files and the iPhoto database.
Can you undo the changes you made? If so, your library might be salvageable.
Do you have a back-up library? If so, now is the time to use it.
If not, you have to create and populate a new library. You will lose your albums, keywords, books, etc. You will have your pictures and the same film rolls as before.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto. Click "Create Library."
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.

Quick Edit Columns Grayed Out, Unable to Edit Data

I have a custom list that i want to edit using quick edit. some of the columns are editiable in quick edit mode but many are not. the column type is Multiple lines of text and when i click on it the column is grayed out and cannot be edited. any advice is

Please check if there are more related ULS logs in 15 hive.
And also try saving this library as a template and create a new libarary based on it, then check if issue still exists, then change the "multiple lines of text" type
Enhanced rich text to
Rich text (even Plain text) if possible, then check again.

Place command grayed-out

Updated ID, AI, PS CC 2014. Uninstalled ID, AI, PS CC. Updated Bridge CC. Version 6.1.0.116 x64, Win 7. "Place" command is grayed-out. Rebuilt prefs using Ctrl key on Bridge startup. Still grayed-out. Any ideas?

I knew I should have waited before I installed CC(2014)... I had down time so I uninstalled all my CC's that were to be replaced by CC(2014),but Bridge did not have a new CC(2014) so I never uninstalled, because I figured it would be updated to allow SENT TO, and PLACE function; WAS I WRONG!
Now I have to completely UNINSTALL Everything and then wipe Adobe CC with a cleaning tool? If our developers missed a large feature like this, we would be out of business. This happens more often then not with you Adobe, straighten this up so others do not have to UNINSTALL every program and wipe it clean then re-install, some people cannot do this due to data caps and time restrictions. You're wasting time and in the States time is everything. Wake up!
Not to mention my Bridge randomly crashes when I choose to open a PSD file in Photoshop which I had to tell it to start using the new CC(2014), I resolved the issue only to find this.
