  • Need help saving layer styles Photoshop CS6 Extended for Mac (Mountain Lion)

I have been trying to learn Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS6 Extended on a Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion). My Adobe software has been updated. I have been doing tutorials using a lot of layer styles. In one of these tutorials, it was suggested that if I would possibly want to use the style again that I should save it. At this point I had entered all my layer styles info and was still in the window with the list of layer styles on the left (bevel and emboss, drop shadow, etc., and the "New Style" button on the right. I clicked on the "New Style" button and when another window popped up asking me to name the style, I named it. When I looked at my styles in the styles panel, I saw the little button for the new style. I saved my graphic and closed it. Later I wanted to apply this style to text in another graphic. The style was used on text originally. When I clicked on it though the style didn't look the same. Upon investigation, a couple of setting under Bevel and Emboss had reverted to defaults. They were different numbers when I saved the style. I could go back in and change these two numbers and get the same results, but I don't understand why these numbers changed on their own -- why the style didn't completely "save." Is there something I have done wrong, or is this some kind of bug? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Thank you very much for your reply! Yes, both documents were at 72 resolution. This morning I tried to save yet another style (same resolution document). It worked when I used it the first time. Then I switched to the other style I had saved. That one took some of the bevel and emboss settings from this morning's style. The numbers which will not save are the angle and altitude under the shading section. Just now I made another document (text at 72 resolution) and both styles had changed these numbers to 120 and 30. Is this something I am doing wrong? I am trying to use text of a similar font and size. I updated my software last night in the hopes that that would help. This morning I reset preferences. Don't know what to do! Thanks for helping me!

  • Extend a network in osx mountain lion

I've just upgrade to osx mountain lion.  Apple care rep advises that with new os - once all my airports are reset - that mountain lion automatically "joins" and "extends" a wireless network.  I notice no increased extension to the network.

    Hello ben santa fe,
Nothing has really changed from Lion to Mountain Lion on the topic of "Extending". Same AirPort products, same AirPort Utility. Same software.
The "Extend" feature remains as it always has....a hub and spoke affair.
A "main" AirPort creates the network and various AirPorts can "extend" the signal, but all of the remotes communicate to the main AirPort...regardless of their location in relation to other remotes.
Not sure what you were hoping to see in the form of "increased extension" to the network. Can you clarify on that?

    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Restore OSX Mountain Lion on Used Mac Mini

    Hi all,
I just purchased a Mac Mini from someone on Craigslist. It's the late 2012 model (Core i7, OSX Mountain Lion)... The problem is, the person I bought it from upgraded it to OSX Mavericks. I use Pro Tools 10 which doesn't work on Mavericks. So I need to restore the Mac Mini back to Mountain Lion, which came on it originally.
Is there a way to do this? Or do I have to actually purchase Mountain Lion from Apple and wait several days for them to email me the download link?

    You need to do this:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • How do i do a full reintstall of osx Mountain Lion

How do I do a full reinstall of OSX Mountain Lion so that all data from my internal hard drive on my Macbook Pro is wiped out and starting fresh?

Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can't install OSX Mountain Lion, on the disk selection screen i cant select the Macintosh HD to install OSX giving a message (This disk cannot be used to start up your computer).only have one disk to select and my partition map scheme is GUID partition

just bough OSX Mountain Lion, my laptop operating with v10.6.8.  Can't install OSX Mountain Lion, on the disk selection screen i cant select the Macintosh HD to install OSX giving a message (This disk cannot be used to start up your computer).only have one disk to select and my partition map scheme is GUID partition table. 24.44gb disk available.

Verify your computer can run Mountain Lion:
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. If it is then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    Now try installing Mountain Lion.

  • Where are my saved Keyboards shortcuts in Illustrator CS6 on a Mac (Mountain Lion)?

I can't find my .kys file to backup?
Any ideas where I can find it in OSX Mountain Lion?

    It's in your user folder/Lbrary/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6
The library  folder in the user folder is hidden on Mac OS. Search Google on how to show it and thank Apple for this great idea.

  • Photoshop CS3 (Ver. 10.0.1) on a MacBook with OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.5) will I loose access to my Photoshop if I upgrade to Yosemite?

I'm running Photoshop CS3 (Ver. 10.0.1) on a MacBook with OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.5) will I loose access to my Photoshop if I upgrade to Yosemite?

There's just a flurry of complaints about CS3 crashing under Yosemite. The upgrade is known to damage CS5 installs. Adobe only certifies CS6, CC, and CC 2014 as being tested for Yosemite.
I would not advise it. You would more than likely have to reinstall CS3 and its' updates, as well as your printer drivers and no guarantee it will be the same.
If your work depends on CS3 functioning, hold off for now, or until you upgrade Photoshop.
You are taking chances you probably don't need to.  If it works, don't fix it.

  • Mac OSX Mountain Lion crashes randomly.

I've made a clean install of Mac OSX Mountain Lion in my 15" Macbook Pro late 2009 laptop. I kept reciving these intermittent lock ups and then the Macbook pro reboots (while thankfully saving whatever it needed to save before it reboots) by itself with a message saying that the macbook pro had a problem and had to restart automatically. Did any of you have the same problem? and if so do you have a solution to fix it?

I am having the same issue with my late 2010 model macbook pro 15 inch. When the computer restarts, the Problem Report for OS X screen comes up with the following in the Details section (third time this has happened in the last 3 hours or so, any help would be great:

  • App store wont let me buy OSX Mountain Lion

My MBP is from 2011 and fully capable of runnung osx mountain lion however when i sign into the app atore to buy it i get a pop up saying that the file damaged or invalid. Ive callled apple tech and currently im reinstalling osx lion in hopes it will fix this problem, if not, has anyone else run into this problem or suggestions on what else i could do to fix it?

Many have, the demand right now is so high, there are many incompleted downloads.  Wait till the dust settles. And make sure you are prepared:

tried to reinstall OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and every time i start with the installation i get a requested time out message, had to shut down my MacBook Pro retina. Now when i start up it automatically start internet recovery for two ouers. After the internet recovery the same problem with reinstalling OSX message

Gave up on the GUI.  This script derived from http://blog.netnerds.net/2012/07/os-x-how-to-setup-nat-on-lion-and-mountain-lion / seems to work for me:
gwdev=en0 # This is my WiFi connection (has Internet connection)
targetdev=en1 # This is the USB to Ethernet adapter (to give Internet connection)
    /sbin/ifconfig $targetdev down
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 create
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 up
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 addm $gwdev
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 $HOST_ADDR
/sbin/route add default -interface bridge0 -ifscope bridge0 -cloning
    /usr/sbin/sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
/sbin/ipfw add 100 divert natd ip from any to any via $gwdev
    /usr/sbin/natd -interface $gwdev -use_sockets -same_ports -unregistered_only -dynamic -clamp_mss -enable_natportmap -natportmap_interface $targetdev

  • How do i connect my AOC Monitor (N19WB) to work on my MacBook Pro 13 (OSX Mountain Lion) it wont recognise it.

Have Apple Mac put something in their computers to stop me connecting my AOC N19WB monitor to my Mac Book? (Thats silly of course not!) because their own monitors are on average around £ 800.00 each and people like me have to save a long time just to buy the MacBook and cant afford a Mac monotor as well (not for a long time anyway). Please Apple i only bought this brand new Mac Book 13 (OSX Mountain Lion) because i want to run Logic 9 without problems. If i cant even get it to work with my monitor it doesnt instill me with confidence.
Anyway guys,  I have bought the right lead followed all the instructions but when i get to 'dispay' via preferences i dont see the same window that i am looking at on a range of forums and/or utube demonstrations.  My window shows 2 options - 'Colour and 'Display'. All others that i have seen in addition show 'Arrangements'. Which i guess is the one that gives you the options as to which extenal monitor you wish to use. Other people have said that you just plug it in and the MacBook finds it for you (not on this machine)! Monitor just displays 'NO SIGNAL' and MaBook 'NO DEVICE DETECTED'.
Please is there any advise out there for me?
    Yours Desperately
    Graham

Hi, your post has been more helpful to me than Telstra's tech. support.
I have installed the generic manager and my 885 modem is now recognised and it appears to connect however there are no ip addresses listed under network preferences. You mention a driver. Is this something else I need to install? Do you have a link? Do I need to manually enter network settings? I should add that I am using Lion 10.7.3 Many thanks for your time
