PS CS6 install doesn't create Win7 start menu shortcut

I just did a PS CS6 install, but just the x64 application. The install created an Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6 shortcut in the base Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder, but it didn't create a shortcut (or folder+shortcut) for Photoshop. I created my own shortcut, but figured I'd report this.
Windows 7 x64 system.

Actually I'm now seeing shortcuts for four new Adobe apps in Start Menu > Programs. The ExtendScript Toolkit CS6 is the only one that shows up in the base Start Menu with red highlighting to indicate a newly installed application. I didn't see the other new shortcuts until I rebooted my system this morning.
The installed folder for each of the four new shortcuts is:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Shortcut names are:
Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)
Adobe Bridge CS6 (64bit)
Adobe Extension Manager CS6
Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6
Adobe is inconsistent with where shortcuts are created. I have several Adobe application shortcuts in Start Menu\Programs but I have a couple in a Start Menu\Programs\Adobe folder and the entire CS5 suite's shortcuts in Start Menu\Programs\Adobe Master Collection CS5
The shortcuts I manually created for Bridge CS6 x64 and Photoshop CS6 x64 are on my desktop and have different names than the ones created by the install.

  • ThinkVantage App installs won't create start menu shortcuts

I have Win7 x64 RTM on my T500 switchable graphics model. This was a clean install with everything wiped from everything on the system (including TPM data and fingerprint data) beore the Win7 install. System Update works fine. I didn't have the newest BIOS on the system when i installed Win7, but I did before I installed the apps that system update pushed yesterday (October 22).
However, so far only the Access Connections program has created a Start Menu entry. Everything else (fingerprint software, power manager and even system update) has not and I had to create the shortcuts manually.
Is anyone else seeing this? Does anyone from Lenovo have an idea why this is happening or how to fix it?
    Thanks.

  • Removing Adobe CS6 Start menu shortcuts

    Hey all,
I've created seperate packages for every program inside CS6, these will be deployed using ZCM, the installation including exceptions all works fine.
My problem is that it creates shortcuts for every application, including some of the exclusions and programs like Bridge in my start menu.
I've tried creating a transform to run with the msi that removes the shortcuts, but checking both the shortcuts option, and the shortcuts table in the msi, there is nowhere where I can find where and/or how it creates these shortcuts.
I want to install CS6 without any shortcuts at all.
    Any help would be appreciated,

    Hello Irfan,
You can add an additional 'Install action' to your Windows Bundle in which you run the Creative Suite MSI, created with the AAMEE, which then runs this script:
del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Adobe Design and Web Premium CS6\Adobe Illustrator CS6.lnk"

  • Firefox desktop and start menu shortcuts were hidden after install - why?

    Hi
I just installed Firfox 5 and after installing both the desktop shortcut and the start menu shortcut were marked as hidden in windows.
Anyone else experienced this and have any ideas what could have caused this. It was rather confusing.
I'm running on a brand new laptop (Dell XPS-17) running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit). The only candidate I can think of is the computer came with McAffee, which I haven't used in years. It was appallingly bad back then but thought I'd give it a chance as Dell gave me 15months free.

It could be a new installation of some other software that's causing it.  Like a VST or DX effect or maybe even some Nero product...  This link might help:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/330/330271.html
The DirectX managers at the bottom of that page should allow you to disable or enable any effect that could cause Audition to fail...
If that doesn't help then try uninstalling and then deleting or renaming any Audition folders in the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local folder.  Then install Audition again...
Still not working?  Then I suggest testing your memory using something like Memtest86, but you'll have to burn a boot CD, DVD or make a bootable floppy disk.  Once you boot from the disc then it's pretty much automatic and might take 15 to 20 min to complete...
Once you're sure it's not a memory problem then run ScanDisk on all of your drives.  Make sure to select 'Automatically fix file system errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors'.  If it asks you if you want to perform the scan next time windows starts then click yes, but go through and scan all the other drives before restarting...
If the memory and hard drive scans don't find anything then I'd say it's your windows installation or possibly an undetected virus... Go and re-install windows.   It would probably take less time to re-install windows then to do all that, but it's better to know your in complete working order...

  • Can't Move or Remove iTunes 7 Start Menu Shortcuts

Once iTunes 7 is installed, it creates a set of program shortcuts in the "start menu > all programs" area. I often reogranize these shortcuts myself post-installation.
However, when I move or delete the iTunes 7 shortcuts from this area, the next time I start the iTunes program it runs the installation / configuration process again and restores all of the program shortcuts.
It does not care if I remove the desktop or quick launch shortcuts, but as soon as I change the start menu programs shortcuts it throws a fit and restores them.
Any fixes / explanations for this, or is it a legit bug?

This appears to be an intentional "feature" of iTunes 7.

  • Office Start Menu Shortcuts Keep Vanishing!

I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Office 2013 Professional with all current updates installed.  I prefer to run with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook on the 'Start Menu' and until recently, this has been working fine.  For the last couple
of weeks however the shortcuts for Word, Excel and Powerpoint keep vanishing!  Strangely, the Outlook shortcut always remains!  I can go to the all programs display, select them and use 'Pin to Start' and they obligingly appear, I move them into
the correct group, they stay there for a while and then vanish!  It has even done it in front of my eyes!  The Start Menu appeared to slide off to the right and then slide back.  When it slid back into view, they were gone!
Has anyone else seen anything like this or have any idea what the problem may be?

    Hi,
Was your computer in a Domain?
Please check if there is any schedule or GP to regularity reset Start screen layout.
Also, consider the corrupted user profile issue, you can check whether this issue also happened on another user account.
This issue can also be caused by corrupted system components, you can try to use this command to restore healthy:
Please make sure to run CMD as Administrator:
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

  • Windows 8 Start Menu Shortcut

    Howdy,
Prior to Windows 8, I was creating a folder with company name in the Start Menu root and then a subfolder in it for each product.
    Start Menu Root :: XCompany :: Product1
    :: Product2
    :: Product3
Using the same architecture in Windows 8 and 8.1, it just recognizes root folders in Start Menu and disregards sub folders.
It means that all my product shortcuts are shown in XCompany folder and ProductX folder is disregarded.
    I checked in Win8 they're here:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Is that behavior expected? Should I force my installer disregard XCompany root folder and just create ProductX folders in the Start Menu folder?
    Or solution is something else?
    Thanks for advise.

    Hi,
In Windows 8, it can allow 2 level navigation on Start screen/ All apps. And yes, we have to create ProductX folders in the Start Menu folder
We must create shortcuts for both your XProduct folder and the sub items under this folder.
    For example:
    For local user, Under folder:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

  • Cf11 install doesn't create cfide in web root

I've been running cf8 on a windows webserver 2008 with IIS7.5 and have just installed cf11. The install completed successfully to the point of opening cfadmin and then failed. On looking in the web root directory as set in IIS, the old CFIDE folder had not been updated, so cf11 was attempting to use the cf8 version.
I renamed the old cfide folder to cfide08, uninstalled cf11 and tried reinstalling it again - but still no cfide folder was created for cf11, and I couldn't open cfadmin. The cfide folder does get created in c:\ColdFusion11\cfusion\wwwroot\cfide
Has anyone else experienced this, or know how to fix it?

    Hi Chris,
ColdFusion 11 is very much stable after update 1. You were having problems migrating to CF11, because the migration was not supported. Regarding your setting migrations, here are some steps you can follow.
Install ColdFusion 9, but don't create the connector to your website during the install. Use the built-in connector instead. After the installation, you will get the prompt to migrate the settings (after admin login). Choose "yes" to migrate. In case, for some reasons, migration wizard didn't appear, then try the following:-
Start ColdFusion 8 and 9 both.
Once both the CF servers are running then try the following steps:-
Navigate to adminconfig.xml at \ColdFusion9\lib\ and open it with text editor (say notepad).
Change the value from “false” to “true” in
         <runsetupwizard>false</runsetupwizard>
         <runmigrationwizard>false</runmigrationwizard>
         <runmxmigrationwizard>false</runmxmigrationwizard>
         and in     <migratecf8>false</migratecf8>.
       3.   Save the file and restart ColdFusion 9 Service.
       4.   After restarting the service, you will get the migration wizard. Follow the onscreen wizard to continue.
    Hope this helps.

  • Launch Start Menu shortcut from CAD using %USERPROFILE%?

Is it possible to launch an external application from CAD by including the %USERPROFILE% Windows variable?  Just specifying that as part of the path to the application in the "Launch External Application" window causes an error when CAD tries to launch the application.  We've developed a ClickOnce application that we'd like to launch through CAD, but I'm struggling to find a way to do that since it installs in the user's application cache instead of the Program Files directory.  Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • CS4 Design standard Silent Install:  Start Menu Items

    Greetings!
I've got everything working for a silent install of CS4 (Design Standard).  However, there seems to be an issue with creating the Start Menu Folders.
My first try, I asked for all the shortcuts to be placed in a folder called "AdobeCS4."  Short and sweet.  After running the install, it created THREE folders.  The first, just called "Adobe" had the Media Player shortcut in it.  The second was the one that I'd asked for, AdobeCS4, and had the rest of the items in it, except for three.  The Third folder was named "Adobe Design Standard CS4", and had "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro", Acrobat Distiller 9, and Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2" in it.
So, I re-set the install.xml file to NOT make my custom folder name, but just use the one called 'Adobe'.
However, the acrobat side of things still won't play nice.  It looks like in the "suite.mst" in the Acrobat Payload folder specifically calls for the cumbersome "Adobe Design Standard CS4" folder.  I tried editing that file, and the install of Acrobat failed, so I assume that the files are checked before install to make sure they're not corrupted or something.
Has anyone been able to make this (Acrobat Install) work properly, and have an install NOT bloat the start menu like crazy? How about the Adobe Media Player install?
I've currently got the install working cleanly using a batch file to change some registry values (disable eula, adobe.com, etc), move the shortcuts, and delete the old folder, which works, but is really not how "software of this caliber" should work.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and hopefully answer!

  • Start Menu items/shotcuts and Start Menu search ability on multiple workstations

2/13/2014 our IT department began to receive complaints of missing programs. After investigation of a few users we were able to determine that the programs existed but all shortcuts and items from the start menu had been completely removed. In addition the
searching feature of the start menu was not functional. This happened to about 90% of our environment and the catalyst seemed to be Windows updates or at least occurred after the auto reboot initiated by Windows Updates.  The only items visible in start
menu were items added after the fact, internet explorer, magnifier, command prompt, and notepad. All other items, folders, and the ability to search installed programs or folders were completely removed. However all programs are present in the program files
folders. THe start menu folder in program data was empty except for the aforementioned items. Additionally properties of start menu had all necessary checks in boxes such as search program files and folders etc. Also show hidden items and folders is enabled
for many users so the items were not hidden but gone. And the biggest kicker of all was after a full domain investigation into the issues we found that the majority of our windows server platforms, primarily 2008, were also affected and system restore is unavailable.
This conflicts with our idea that Windows Updates caused this since our servers get their updates on a manual initiated basis by their admins which we have not performed as of yet for this month. This caused me to begin looking at SCCM SCEP as all systems
have System Center Endpoint Protection and received definition updates. Also accessing different user profiles or even a new profile did not make a difference, issue still present.
Due to the enormous inconvenience we sent out a company wide email asking users to perform system restores to get us in a stable state. A system restore to the day before Windows updates (second Wednesday of every month configured by SCCM SCUP) restored
    the start menu items.
On a multitude of machines IT performed troubleshooting and system restores recording the changes removed and added. We then, on a healthy machine, started to apply the windows updates and SCEP (antivirus) definitions 1 by 1 with out success of replicating
the issue. Next we performed a system wide antivirus full scan and did not find any viruses. This is obviously not a system criticle issue bringing us down but is a huge concern for us in IT as it happened company wide and caused a large flux of tickets and
some down time for non-technical users. We most definitely want to know the cause and after several days of investigation and troubleshooting Im turning to the Microsoft community for help.
I know I categorized this as a Windows 7 issue and its affecting windows server 2008, 2003, and 7, but I did not see a forum for all windows platforms. Since the majority of affected users are Windows 7 I opened it here.
So to summarize in a bulleted format:
Issue: Wide spread issue affecting around 60-70 users and servers, all profiles, were all start menu items save one or two system defaults were removed. Additionally the searching feature for the start menu looks to be broken as programs
exist in program files and are unsearchable from start menu. IT was also affected and I remain affected until I find the cause.
    Investigation and Troubleshooting:
Start menu properties: nothing has changed and search options are enabled.
Missing items are not hidden, hiding and unhiding does nothing and folder options show hidden files is checked.
Program data start menu location is indeed empty as well as user app data start menu location
No group policy's are in place altering start menu items and no group policy changes were made as of recent
No SCCM packages pushed company wide in last month or pushed individually
Windows Updates occurred on windows 7 machines only before the issue occurred and computers restarted and the issue surfaced
System Center Endpoint Protection Antivirus updates and definitions deployed just before the occurrence with windows updates. SCEP def updates happen on all windows boxes to include servers
Paint.exe was completely missing from system32 folder for some users machines to include my own
System restore to that morning before restarts or previous day fixes the issue for windows 7 users
No windows updates were initiated on any servers
Servers were also affected with windows 7 machines
About half the users affected had corrupt Microsoft Office 2013 Pro Plus Click to Run installations and for some the system restore did not fix this and we had to re-install office for around 10 users
SCEP antivirus did not catch any viruses that could cause this, I performed MBAM scans on a handful of machines and didn't find anything either.
    Re-creating start menu shortcuts works
Happened to two of our companies locations NH and MA, all part of the same domain but different LANS of course. Companies are interconnected by MPLS connection.
I combed through SCCM to see if anything deployed and found nothing. Currently I have SCUP updates and SCEP updates disabled. I will post a list of Windows Updates that occurred when the issue occurred as well as the SCEP updates. I have read all the threads
about this types of issues and tried all steps without success. Googling the issue also did not rear results.
