PS CS6 trial crashes after importing huge image from scanner

Hi.
Here is my hardware:
Macbook pro 4 GB DDR3 core i5 with plenty of HD space
Epson V700 scanner (6400 dpi scanning capability)
My Software:
   Adobe CS6 trial
What I want to do:
Scan a typical photo that is 6 by 6 inches at 6400 dpi as a bitmap, for utmost quality
What I tried:
File -> Import -> Images from device -> then selected my scanner, set it to scan at 6400 dpi and save as a bitmap
My problem:
When the scanner head is done scanning and the progress bar for scanning the image completes and moves to the next step (presumably writing the image to the file), PS crashes and gives me an error log. It is far too detailed for me. I have no problem scanning images at lower resolutions like 1200 dpi. But this scanner is capable of 6400 dpi and I want to take full advantage of it. I cannot use the scanner software that came with teh scanner because tech support told me the scanner software has a 1.something GB file limit size. They told me 3rd party software like PS should be able to scan unlimited file sizes.
I suspect the file size migh be too large (16 GB)
My question:
Is this a bug in the trial or something? Should PS be able to scan a 6 by 6 inch photo at 6400 dpi and save it as a bitmap?
Any 1st thoughts? I imagine it would be useful to upload the error log. I can do that if it is ok to do so
Thanks, your help is appreciated since I would lik eto scan this image at 6400 dpi. If I am given a solution, I will probably buy the full version

That's a bigger image than photoshop elements can handle (the pixel dimensions are roughly 38,400 x 38,400)
I suspect the problem in cs6 is more due to lack of ram on your machine (compared to the file size), but you should really ask about cs6 on the photoshop forum:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/general
Also unless the photo is a slide or negative, you probably don't need to scan at max resolution.
Anyway for elements you'd need to reduce either the dpi or specify a smaller size than 6 x 6.
And then probaly scan (save) to your hard drive instead of scanning from within elements to a file format such as tif with compression if the scanner offers that option.
It depends on what your scanning, but for example i usually scan 35 mm slides at 4800 dpi (different scanner) at there default size (24mm x 36mm) and the file size is usually in the 200 to 300 mb range.

  • 2012 R2 DC crashes after import Root CA from 2008 R2 DC/CA (with same name)

    Hello Everyone.
We migrate a Windows Server 2008 R2 DC with Root CA to an Windows Server 2012 R2 DC with same IP and Computername on a new VM. The Windows Server 2012 R2 works fine before we import the Root CA Information from a Backup (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee126140(v=ws.10).aspx)
After import the Root CA Information, we can´t rename any object, OU, user account, etc, whichever DC AD Users and Computers is pointing at, lsass.exe will crash and the DC will reboot after 60 seconds. Remove ADCS is no helping.
Depromote DC and removing ADDS, reboot... and promote the W12R2 to DC is the same Problem. Now we delete (properly) the Server and reinstall the W12R2 OS and promote the Server to DC. After
new install the rename any object works fine.
Does anyone have an idea? Any help would be appreciated!
    Regards Achim

    Hi,
Is there any detail error message?
If the issue is related to CA, i would suggest that you may ask in:

  • After importing an image from cs5 back into lightroom, lightroom is making the image darker

Lightroom is making my images darker after i edit them in photoshop cs5 and I dont know why. When i open the image back into photoshop it looks fine. Even when i save it as a jpeg lightroom is making the image darker. When i imported the raw image into lightroom before i edited into photoshop it looked fine. Is there a way to fix lightroom?

    See screen shot:
Click on the two small triangles and under <Lightroom General Presets> select <Zeroed>. Sorry, it seems that the option <None> is not available anymore in Lr 4.3. But <Zeroed> has the same effect.
Alternatively, in the Develop Module, bottom right, just above the film strip click on <Reset>.  See screen shot:

  • Aperture 2 not importing .nef images from scanner... works in LR2 though.

    Hi,
I have been looking at Aperture 2 and Lightroom 2 recently to see which one I'd like to use long term. I generally feel more comfortable with Aperture and it's controls (the sliding scale controls vs increase/decrease buttons) and Aperture's auto grouping of master and adjusted virtual copies but while Lightroom imports the range of image types I have, Aperture refuses to display the .nef images I have from negative scans. I can see the thumbnail but the preview is the "Unsupported Image Format" box. I have Camera RAW 5.2 installed on the computer and Photoshop CS3, which also can't open my .nef files.
As background, I have a Powermac G5 dual 2.5GHz with 3.5GB ram running OSX (10.5.6). I'm scanning from a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED using Nikon Scan 4 at full resolution (4000dpi) to 14 bit .nef format raw files (~130MB/image). The Aperture version is 2.1.2
I can't figure out weather it's something with Aperture or something with my system, considering lack of PS support (even after swapping in the latest Camera Raw plugin into the System Library).
Anyone have any thoughts? I'd like to be able to get this sorted before I have to make a definitive choice.
    Thanks

    @MacDLS-
It was really either 16-bit Nef or Tiff and it was a legacy decision that I've just lived with. I get that there are differences between a Camera Nef and a Scanner Nef as the camera imprints metadata in there that is irrelevant in the case of the scans and that the Scanner is recording R, G and B data for each pixel but whatever. I gathered that if I used Tiff, my saves would be permanent, similar to jpeg, whereas Nef is Raw-like in the sense that I can reverse adjustments to the master, which is more appealing than duplicating every Tiff for a mater copy and an adjustment copy (+ other adjustment copies). But I could easily be misguided, I'm no pro.
Another consideration was that many of these scans are unlikely to see future rescans, so it's not like I am of the mindset that I will just be rescanning stuff with the next super-scanner of the future down the line. These are the archival digital negatives as far as I'm concerned.
As far as being only useful in Nikon software, they do work fine in Lightroom 2 and...
I realized CameraRaw version 5.XX is CS4 specific and was the limiting factor for Photoshop. I reverted to the CameraRaw 4.6 plugin and everything was gravy as far as Photoshop... still no luck with Aperture 2 though.
So Nikon Scanned Nef files, go for Adobe software, no go for Aperture... unless I'm 'doing it wrong' ???

  • Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the ST card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the SD card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Check your Import settings in the Import Panel, i.e. all that might exclude the image type you want to import:
If you did not exclude any file types, and still Aperture will not import, remove your ImageCapture preferences fro your user library:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something .plist  remove them too.
    then try again.
And if that still does not help, remove the Aperture preferences as well:
    ~/Library/Preferences/aperture.plist

P.S. in MacOS Lion and later the user library ~/Library is hidden by default.
You can reveal it also  from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > Go,   then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences".

  • When iPhoto '11 crashes after importing photos and videos, they are gone. How can I retrieve them?

iPhoto '11 randomly crashes after importing/editing/organizing photos and videos. When it does, photos and videos that I've been working on are gone. Pictures taken with iOS devices can be retrieved if they are still in Photo Stream, but videos are gone. Is there anyway I can retrieve photos and pictures that are not saved before iPhoto crashes? Also, is there anyway to prevent it from crashing? It seems iPhoto '11 is doing this since the day 1 I started using it. Thank you.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library
this should help with the crashes - it may or may not help with the missing videos

  • How do I import RAW images from Sony NEX 5-R to iPhoto?

I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and iPhoto 9.4.2 and have installed Digital Camera RAW compatability update 4.01 but still can't import RAW images from my new Sony NEX 5-R digital camera.. any ideas? I also have Photoshop CS6 - should I import through that if iPhoto isn't a feasible option..?

This is the list of currently supported cameras
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The Nex5-R is not on the List and so that Raw format is not supported at this time.
Note: The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually. If yours is not supported then let them know you want it:

  • Importing Images from Scanner

For 15 years I have used Adobe Elements as my photo-editing software. I import images from my scanner, camera, etc. My computer hard drive crashed last week. I have a new hard drive and had to reload all my programs. Now when I'm in Adobe PE 10 and say I want to import an image from my scanner or camera, it won't see them. Might be a twain issue -- but I can find NO help on the Adobe sight. My Brother MFC can print and scan (so the problem is not with them). I can pull photos from my camera "the long way." I just can't get Adobe to see my scanner or camera. HELP! Who can I call (for free) or where can I go for live chat? I'd like to get this solved NOW!

Hope that this helps. Let us know if this is correct.

  • Image Date error on importing TIFF images from Disk

I have thousands of high quality (~100 Mb each) images in 20 folders on a 1 Tb hard drive. I have been using Bridge to manage the images, adding some metadata such as keywords and copyright data. I am considering importing all these images into Aperture and using it as the primary image management tool.
But I am concerned about an apparent bug in the way Aperture handles the "image date and time".
In Bridge (and GraphicConverter), the "image date" field is correct, directly from my CFV digital back on the camera and inline with the time of day the shot was taken (e.g. sunrise image at 6am). When I import the image into Aperture, the time gets shifted by 14 hours.
For example, an image in Bridge that correctly shows Date Created as 10/05/2009 7:36am gets distorted to 10/05/2009 9:36pm, exactly 14 hours later than the correct time. It was taken at 7:30 in the morning but, in Aperture, looks like it was taken in the late evening. It does not look like a time zone issue as the image was taken in the same time zone as my Mac Pro is set to.
I have tried deleting the masters and re-importing them with GMT +2 and GMT -12 in the two time zone adjustment fields. This gets the right time into the Image Date field but then the image has the wrong time zone data in the "Camera Time Zone" and "Picture Time Zone" fields.
I have tried running MetaData > Update Date and Time (with Master files ON) but it comes back with an error "no master files were adjusted ... because they have a format that does not permit modification".
I have tried running MetaData > Update Date and Time (with Master files OFF). It appears to work but I assume that the underlying file in the Aperture library still has the incorrect time.
Have others faced this problem? Is there a solution? Is it a known bug that Apple might fix one day?
    Regards
    Peter

I am seeing a very similar problem when importing TIFF files back to Aperture.
This is what I do and what I see:
    1. I import RAW images from my camera into Aperture. They show the correct date and time.
    2. I open an RAW image in Photoshop (CS4) directly from the finder. The image inside Photoshop (file/info) shows the correct date and time.
    3. After editing I save my image as 16bit TIFF and it still shows correct date and time.
    4. I import the new TIFF back into Aperture. The time is shifted back 15 hrs!
I can then go in and Metadata/Update Date and Time (no masters) and it works well, but it is a pain to do on each image I process.
In all cases camera and image timezone is set to US Pacific as it should be.
To me this seems like Aperture is somehow miss-interpreting the timezone when reimporting TIFFs.
I have not tried importing JPEGs or PSDs back but I will and will report back...

  • How can I import selected images from a folder instead of the whole folder in iPhoto 9.5.2?

    Hi there,
I was trying to help my parents import some photos from a folder they have created with photos from their holiday. They only want to import select images from this folder into iPhoto. I said it would be easy and they can do it in 2 ways. First, they can drag and drop selected photos from their folder into iPhoto - and this works for them. However, more convieniently, they can click file>import to Library and then select the photos they want by going into the folder... Well that's how it works on my iPhoto '11 at least. When they showed me their screen via Skype (they are running iPhoto 9.5.2), when they click import to library, and try to go into the folder containing their photos, it imports the whole thing and there appears to be no way that they can enter the folder to select just a few photos from what I could see.
Does anyone know anything aout this problem?
    Cheers.

Consistently receive the following message after importing serveral songs from CD into iTunes (latest ver 11.1.5.5)...
"Error occurred while converting the file 'songname'.  The required folder cannot be found."
CD/DVD ROM is no longer recognized until computer is restarted.

I have the same problem.  I recently moved my music from a Vista PC to a new Laptop with an external CD drive. It will copy one song from the CD and it will show in the Music file and then I get the message ' Error importing a CD - Folder not found'.  I must unplug the CD drive and plug it back in.  I have seen no fix for this problem.

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • Import Image from scanner to database Direct ..

can any Colleagues help me ..
how can i Import Image From Scanner directly
if anyone can descuss code and how can i do that
    thank for all Colleagues .......

You cannot.. unless you are prepared to get your hands dirty writing code to integrate a scanner API into Oracle.
Oracle has a feature called extproc. This allows you to define external "procedures" - these procedures are for example shared object libraries (Linux/Unix) or dynamic link libraries (Windows). A scanner API will be typically implemented by its driver as a shared object/DLL. Which means it is callable from within PL/SQL.
It may however not be usable - extproc does not support callbacks, does not own a window or process handle, and so on.
In which case you may need to wrap the DLL into a custom DLL that implements callbacks. perhaps create a hidden window if a window handle is needed, and so on.
In other words, this is not a trivial thing. You need to know more than just a bit about o/s side (systems) programming.
You should also ask yourself why you want to do this. Architecturally wiring a scanner into Oracle via PL/SQL and an extproc interface make absolutely no sense at all.
Especially since operator input/control is required to physically manage device... That is on the very opposite side of the Oracle server spectrum. That is clearly a client function to interact with such a device and not a server function.
