PS CS6 will not open new files, but will re-open old ones
For no apparent reason, and all of a sudden, PS CS6 on this PC will not open any previously unopened psd files. It will open them if I've opened them before. Running win7, have all the latest drivers, versions, etc, including the latest video drivers. Same files will open on my laptop with CS6 no problem. Also files open in CS5 no problem. I did the ctrl+shift+alt deal to reset PS, no help. Any ideas other than reinstall the suite? Is there a way to just reinstall PS?

The system info follows. The only change I've made was switching the gpu mode from "advanced" to "normal". It functions this way, but not when set to advanced.

i have had this problem before and had to take my computer to the apl store were someone at the genius bar fixed it by deleting some preferences thing i do not remember how who did it or how he got to that file and need help to fix this problemTry Finder>Library>Preferences>Microsoft>com.microsoft.word.prefs.plist, and delete that last one.
I don't know that it will solve your problem, but I'm pretty sure that's what the guy did before. Good luck! -
downloaded acrobat reader 11 onto my Mac Book Pro, it can open the file but will not print. Get a message that says PDF cannot be printed, however, I forwarded it to someone else and they could print it, no problem. I called HP and spent an 1hour with them and then called Apple support and worked with them for 3 hours. No one can figure it out. Is there something wrong with this version? the pdf was created in 2004. Do I have to pay to get Acrobat?
Let me give you a slightly different perspective than everyone else here. You are using an unsecured wireless network, which means that all your network traffic is easily available for viewing by anyone else using that network. That's bad. Very bad, for you, unless you absolutely trust everyone who lives within range of this network. So stop doing it.
As to the Mac not connecting, wireless networking is simply too complex for any reasonable answer without more information. There are many possible error points, and as often as not it's the Mac that can connect and the Windows PC that cannot. Since you can't give us any information about the configuration of the neighbor's network, and can't make any changes to it, we can't do much to help you troubleshoot it. -
Put in a CD from a textbook for school...it will bring up the files but will not play the CD... what do I do? Need fast help please!!
If it's a windows only dvd you'll need windows. i don't think you want to go to the trouble of installing windows on your mac right now. Don't you have a friend or relative who will let you use their windows computer?

Thank you for your help.When you sell your iMac, please remember that if you bought Mountain Lion upgrade at the app store, the license is not transferable and you need to erase the drive and reinstall the original system (which was most likely Snow Leopard?). If you don't do that, the buyer can never reinstall Mountain Lion because the license is tied to your Apple ID forever.

Go-OpenOffice Writer Will Not Create New File
I'm having a problem with go-openoffice writer, where it is unable to create a new file. If I open writer directly, a file appears for a split second on my screen and then disappears. This also happens if I attempt to create a new file from withing an already existing file. Strangely, I can open already existing files, just not create new ones.
I tried uninstalling and resinstalling go-openoffice, but this didn't help. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Thanks.Yes that's my problem. I can't open an empty writer window. If I execute writer from the Gnome applications menu or from a terminal, I see the window for a split second and then it disappears, as if something is immediately closing the window the moment it opens. This also happens if I use the create new file command in the file menu, from an existing Writer file. This is not a problem with other Ooo apps. Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math all open new files fine. Only writer has the problem.
As a completely cumbersome work around, I can open an existing file, use save-as to create another file, and then delete it's contents.

ITunes 10.6.3 not importing mp3 files but will play the mp3 files

I recently updated my iTunes to v10.6.3 on my mac. However, I cant seem to add new music to my iTunes library. Dropping and dragging doesnt work even though the '+' curser appears and importing music using command + O doesnt work either. There is no indication of the music being analysed or anything.
However, when I click on an mp3 file it opens and plays in iTunes but will not be added to the library. If I click on the mp3 file again from finder, it will play in iTunes from the last point..
Does anyone have any ideas of wrong? Its frustrating me because I need to sync music to my iPhone and I cant

The music plays and I can see the the time bar in the window on the top of iTunes but the file is not located in the iTunes library or anywhere in iTunes so I cant right click it.
At the moment the mp3 file is on my desktop. Normally dropping and dragging it into iTunes adds it into my 'iTunes' folder in the 'Music' folder.. but this is not happening. I've tried manually adding the file into the 'iTunes' folder using the appropriate folder titles etc.. but iTunes will not detect the new mp3's. Wierd!!

This is a new one. Problem seen on iMac and Mac Pro.
1) Create a new Pages document (newest version).
2) Save to the Desktop
3) Export as MS Word document with the same identical name
4) Close the Pages documents
5) Quit Pages
6) Open Pages
7) Choose File : Open
8) In the search field in the upper right corner of Open dialog. Enter the name of the document just saved.
9) Only the MS Word document is listed. the Pages document is not shown, even when Filename contains is selected
If anyone knows how to fix this problem. please comment on this request.
thanksthanks for testing. I do realize that the two test files will show up in the Open dialog as it opens to the Desktop folder. But what happens if it opens up in another folder and you need to locate a Pages file where you don't know the location, you remember the name. You would go to the search field in the upper right corner of the Open dialog and enter the name. In the Open dialog, the name would be listed and you can choose the one to open. In my tests, the search field would only show the MS Word document, not the Pages i.e. only one would be listed not two. Also, Filenames is an option that does appear in the search field in the Pages Open dialog.
The examples files I created are called "This is a test". The content of the file is "This is a test" (without the quotes in both). the search field in the Open dialog is suppose to locate the text in the documents if enclosed in quotes which it does for the Word document but still will not find the pages document. You can click Filenames while entering in the search field and the same occurs, only locates the Word doc, not the Pages doc.

Safari will not launch from Dock but will launch if I open it from an email
I recently reinstalled my operating system and Safari worked fine for a day. Went to open it from the Dock today and it would not open. Click on link in an email and it opens and works fine. Have trashed the preferences file. What else should I do. The crash report has the below for the last entry when it doesn't open. Can I trash that?

No, do not trash that file.
Quit Safari if it's open.
Locate this file. com.apple.launchservices.plist
~/Library/Preferences.
Drag that file to the Desktop.
Try to launch Safari from the Dock.
If that does not work, drag the Safari icon up off the Dock. It will go poof. (not a technical approach but that's what it does). Now go to your Applications folder and launch Safari from there. If it opens as it should, select the Safari icon in the Dock / Keep In Dock.
If you still have problems with Safari, go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Open the Internet Plugins folder. If there are files there, delete them.
To empty the cache memory go to the Safari menu and click 'Empty Cache'.
To Reset Safari go to the Safari menu and click 'Reset Safari". Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Frame won't open a file, but will open the MIF file. Has anyone seen this?
With FM 9, I have a 2-page landscape file. The first page is Adobe Illustrator *.ai art. The second page is text with a couple of JPGs. I was able to open the *.fm file for a long time, and then Frame started complaining and crashing. A friend can open it on her machine (64 bit, Windows 7) and made me a MIF file from it. I can open the MIF file just fine, but not the *.fm file. All art is imported by reference. Any ideas what is going on? My machine is 32 bit, Windows XP.

Most likely you are attempting to open a Numbers file created with the ner version using the previous version of Numbers.
Use the latest version (3.x) to open that file. You can tell them apart quickly by observing the icon in the dock (I actually keep both in my dock so I know which one I am using):

I have allowed my delete to get to large. Now Entourage won't allow Delete file to be opened; when attempted, it says, "file cannot be opened, not enough memory". How can I open to Delete file to delete messages?
You should be able to check by opening the Attachments panel on the left (paperclip icon) and looking at the file extension.

When I go to creat a new track and hit choose it comes up as "The file couldn't be opened"
And recent projects do not open at all

All instruments shown here are read from templates in the system library:
Your Harddisk -> Library -> Application Support -> GarageBand -> Templates -> Projects -> 01. Piano.band
If you only could not create new projects from the instruments panel, I'd assume, the "Sharing and Permissions" setting for these files are corrupted.
But since you cannot open any projects, there must be something wrong with the "Sharing and Permissions" in your home folder.
Launch Disk utility from Applications -> Utilities, and start "Verify Disk Permissions".
If permissions need repairing, run "repair disk permissions".
