PS CS6 windows compatible with iMac OS X

Hi there, I purchased Photoshop CS6 for Windows back in March 2013, to use on my laptop. I just purchased a iMac 27-inch OS X 10.9.1 running Maverick upgrade. i was told Windows PS CS6 would be compatible with the new Mac. My question is... Will it work? i don't want to install and then have nothing but problems like I'm reading about after a few searches. Thanks for any advice

Windows software doesn't run on Mac unless you install a Windows on it via Bootcamp or a virtual machine. Beyond that - yes, technically Macs are just normal PC hardware and once you have a working Windows version on it, your PS would work just fine. If you want to run it natively on OSX, you need to run a platform swap.

What is going on?  CS6 is compatible with XP!!!

Tom Hogarty seems to think it might be somewhat code-related, John.
Developing and testing across Operating System versions and platforms to ensure that we’re achieving this goal is a significant effort that takes time and resources.  XP is substantially different from Windows Vista and Windows 7, and requires a independent testing matrix, which increases the complexity of our development efforts.
Adobe's Brett N had this to say on the same subject (with my emphasis):
Vista made many very drastic changes away from Windows XP (although Windows Vista and Windows 7 are very similar).
So, your computer (the physical hardware) being able to run Windows Vista is not the same thing as your OS (Windows XP) being able to run Lightroom 4.  It is simply too old and lacks much of the programming to run LR4.

  • Latest Blu-Ray burner compatible with iMac 2012 model?

What is the best, latest external Blu-Ray player and burner compatible with iMac?
I cannot get a real clear answer anywhere.... It also needs to run in both OSX Lion and Windows through Parallels software.....
Please can I have makes and models and what is he best iMac software to use? Thanks

Apple has shunned the Blu-ray format. If you need a Blu-ray drive look at the reviews @ the MacWorld website.
Be prepared to bleed through the nose for this technology on the Mac side.

  • What OCR (optical Character recognition) software is compatible with iMac?

What OCR (optical Character recognition) software is compatible with iMac?
I am using OS X 10.9.1 on my iMac with an Epson CX8600 printer/scanner.

My new Brother multifunction came with Presto PageManager. I can't recommend that it in the least. Its OCR is terribly inaccurate to the point of being unusable in my tests. Even normal sentences came out mashed together.
I wanted to try IRIS, but it has no test version, just videos, that I could find, and emails to them just led to a Windows demo that is irrelevant. They ignored my email asking about a Mac demo, so I could not even try it out. That pretty much knocks it out of the running for me as this software is too expensive to just buy based on their promotional videos alone.
Then there's Vuescan, and it's not too bad for OCR and supports about every device you could possibly conceive of using, and that's a plus. It was fairly accurate, but not as accurate as Finereader Pro. The interface is a bit complex to my taste.
I've been testing out ABBYY Finereader Pro, and they do have a demo, and so far it seems to be the most accurate of what I've been able to test. It gets pretty close to everything on English and Spanish, and supports most common languages (check the list on their website). It even properly recognized syllables of phonetic Tibetan (using Roman alphabet, but it will not detect Tibetan). The UI is pretty good, but not perfect and there's no way to train for odd words you might need. I haven't tried it for Chinese or Japanese, but for my purposes, unless I find something more economical, I'll buy this one for its accuracy.
I really suggest you download demos and try them for yourself as none of these are particularly cheap

A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it."  Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct  25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I want to purchase iMac i7 and want to know if my pc based LG dvd player (usb) is compatible ? also my external Hard Drive (usb) is it compatible with iMac?

wiil my PC extermnal dvd player and external hard drive be compatible with iMac ore do I have to by all new stuff?
Can data be recovered from Hard drive and transfered to new iMac simply?
Thank you for your time and consioderation,
depending on this answer will decide if i change over to iMac or not

All USB drives should be compatible hardware-wise. If the drive is formatted NTFS, then you can copy from it, but not write to it. If it is formatted FAT or exFAT, then you can both read and write.

  • Photoshop CS6 - files compatible with all CS versions?

I create designs with Photoshop CS6. Oftentimes they include clipping masks, layers, groups ... . Will my client be able to modify the design with every CS version? Are my designs (made with CS6) 100% compatible with very old CS versions, too?  Or should he/she own a newer version of Photoshop CS?
    Thank you much!

Yes, you have to worry about compatibility. Groups within groups within groups have changed considerably over the years. Before CS3, you could even only have one group level at the root level of the document, no nested groups. That has been expanded ever since. Likewise, per-group masks, clipping paths and layer styles have only been introduced in CS5/ CS6. There's a couple of other things as well like CS6 having changed the order of certain layer styles, but you get the idea. I'm sure if you read some articles or the online help's "What's New" sections for each version, you wil lget the full picture. As long as you avoid these specialty cases and keep your document simple and save it with teh "Maximize Compatibility" option, most files should open in one way or another even in older versions, but there's simply no way to guarantee that each and every bit will be fully editable otehr than in the same version it was originally created.

  • NERO burned DVDs not compatible with iMacs?

Can anyone confirm that DVDs burned with NERO
(in this case NTSC, Region 0/NO region code)
are not compatible with iMacs' DVD player?
When I insert these DVDs they get mounted, but DVD player can't play them.
Is there a way to fix this?
Or does the maker of the DVDs have to use special settings in NERO
    to make them compatible?
    Thanks!

    Hi coxorange;
Since Nero is not an Apple product, I suggest you ask the vendor who wrote it.

  • Is there a creative suite CS6 version compatible with a Mac OS X 10.5.8?

I downlaoded CS6 on my computer only to find out CS6 is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.8, it says it must be 10.6.0, but I don't want to get a whole new computer, is there a CS6 version compatible with a Mac OS X 10.5.8?

It really will depend on which Adobe product or suite you are trying to install.  In general though most of our Creative Suite 6 products require 10.6.8.  Which Adobe product did you purchase?  Besides your operating system is there other system requirements which you also are not currently able to fulfill?

  • Is the CS6 Photoshop compatible with Mac BookPro OS 10.8 ? The Packet states OS Xv10.6.8 or v10.7.

Yes. Those are minimum requirements, newer versions supersede them.

  • Is Samsung Galaxy 4 compatible with iMac and other Apple products?

Is Samsung Galaxy 4 compatible with iMac and other Apple products?

Yes, the s4 is compatible with music and photo transfers between your imac.  I don't have experience with the cloud, but it should be the exact same thing.
Now, there will be a few differences between how you get the files onto said device.  With the iPhone, you may be able to do it wirelessly, but with the s4 you will have to plug it in.
The s4 will not work with iLife or iLife applications either.  However, bigger screen, more customizable ui and experience with samsung phones personally, I would recommend the s4 over the iPhone 5.

  • Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 compatible with iMac 12,2?

After researching on line for a superior 2.1  external speaker component to purchase I bought the (wired) Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speaker system. The owner's manual states since ProMedia 2.1 has an internal amplifier, they are designed to use the "line-out" connector of (my) computer. I realize that my 27" iMac desktop (mid2011) does have a 3.5mm minijack output for both headphones & "line-out".
My concern is will the Volume Control of the control pod interface correctly allow volume control of my speakers? Considering that the owner's manual states: "Some soundcard and /or PC manufacturers may have software that must be adjusted separately from the WINDOWS volume control. -&- "SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE GAIN CONTROLS" directions are described for :  "Software Volume Controls in Microsoft Windows" - ONLY!
I (naively) have expectations that Best Buy, being that the are the only outlet that I could find that sells these Klipsch's speakers -&- have a APPLE "store within a (MF) store", should **** well know if the two items (Apple computers & Klipsch external speakers) are compatible with each other!!  SILLY ME!!!!
I do NOT suffer FOOLS, gladly!!
If someone has experience or an informed opinion, I would be very grateful for some input. I suppose I could unpack the speakers and experiment, but **** it, when will computer-affiliated businesses learn that PC does not equal MICROSOFT (!#$!%) WINDOWS?

Wondering if you ever got these to work. We purchased yesterday on a whim & after set up smelled hot metal & LED light went out on the one that has the controls. Only noises we have got out of them is a strange loud feedback & a pop when they are turned on or off. What gives?

  • What Camcorders Are Compatible With iMac

I am looking to buy a digital video camera but I am not sure if they are "compatible" with my iMac. My friend just bought the JVC - Everio Digital Camcorder - Model: GZMG330HUS. It comes with Windows software and the manual has a brief mention of how to Backup-Up the video files onto the Mac but no mention of the video format being compatible with Mac. Anyway we tried plugging it into the Mac to see how it responded, and it did not, except that it saw it as a device that we could access the video files to copy then to the Mac hard drive. The Video files have an extendion .MOD and .MOI. Tried double clicking on the MOD (the video itself) and the Mac gave the message that no application exists to run it.
I am currently on iMovie HD 6.0.3.
I really want iMovie to recognize it so I can edit the video and make movies to sent to family.
So, my question is whether any of you have tried this? Is there a solution to get this type of camera to be recognized by iMac? Are there other suggestions for compatible cameras in the $400-500 range (like this JVC is)?
I went to my local Apple Store and they did not have an answer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Brad,
While IMovie 08 MAY work with that cam, you may not like iMovie 08! Be sure to have a look at it at your Apple store before you buy iLife 08. It is NOT an upgraded iMovie HD, but a whole re-write of the software, simplified and with less editing features than what you have with iMovie HD6.
If you want to keep your current iMovie version, you must buy a miniDV tape cam with firewire. There are very good miniDV cams in your price range that will possibly give you better quality video than a hard drive or disc cam too, since miniDV does not employ the high compression of data that the other formats do. Hope that helps.

  • Can I dock my windows Laptop with IMAC?

    Hi,
This would have been a no possibly even 3 years ago, but with the development of common software protocols allowing a flourishing application market, is it now possible for me to dock my Windows PC with a new IMAC. To the extent that the MAC is actually driving things using its OS.
    4 Reasons:-
The first reason for wanting to use the Apple OS, is the fault of my overzealous company security settings which when in full flow like they are now on "Virus Scan Thursday" runs up about 90% of the RAM to the point is can take 5 minutes to open a basic forecasting sheet.
The second one is:- after using IPAD day to day for the past three years I can honestly say its one of the most intuitive devices to use, especially Numbers and Keynote. No more googling for formulas. To make my point about its simplicity, I draw your attention to Excels Autosum function which i'm sure you can remember is the Sigma symbol, so poor a symbol is it, that MS have to translate and scribe the words AutoSum in every common language known to man next to it, you opted for the = sign.
The third reason is:- Windows just seems so thrown together now that it might, and quite often does stop working and self destructs. A little bit like the Vauxhall Victor X type did in the 60's. Let me explain what I mean. Take the three next gen consoles on the market, Sony PS4, MS XBOX ONE, and the Nintendo WII U. My boys and are fortunate enough (my bonus payment not so lucky) to have the latter 2-following subsequent visits from a white bearded fellow. I like the shooty brash environments that are driven up in games like COD, which to be fair is the only real game on XBOX ever that I've played since getting over the shock that I could connect with other people over the planet and play them. Anyway before I run off track onto a rose-tinted day when me an my brother would divide the screen up into two sections using cardboard. When playing Goldeneye on the N64; one of us laying prone, one of us sat in an inflatable plastic sofa, both pair of eyes glued to the action on their OWN PORTION of the screen. The cardboard acting like the plastic piece separating two battleship players, neither one knowing the others position. But for the Xbox that's about it, the other games developers don't seem to get the game-play over graphics argument. In the case of some its either far-far too complex for concern, I'm thinking about those driving games with the flash cars and exquisite level of detail in the telemetry and how that car handles. Realistically how many of us have the time to play a full 24 hour Le - Mans - Grand Prix with all of the automatic, car control gadgets switched off. To the complete opposite where the game-play is sooooooo simple, take the reboot of tomb raider which took around 12 hours to clock with all of the collectables. Then you have thousands of apps to contend with. Zune, Music player, etc all bolted onto a bastardised win 8 setup. Then look at Nintendo, and its OS its refined and things seem to work, the published games are always excellent and playable by any age. The new Yoshi wool world looks amazing but it has the complexity of the stardome on Mario world.
The fourth and final reason is, it would probably save me 5 - 10 minutes a day swapping files over email etc etc... But, Its 5 minutes more I can spend with my boys practising their footballing skills and acting out their other ambitions, so that one day they don't have to worry about the appalling 1st world plight of interoperability problems between Windows and Apple! which like Oasis and Blur from Britpop England in the 90's and Love it or Hate it Marmite, realised that being ever so slightly different and arguing a bit about the relative merits of the new stuff, cautiously publicly insulting each other whilst really being squash buddies would ensure massive success for both of them!

  • Is the 3 inch CD compatible with iMacs.

Are 3 inch CDs compatible with the iMac CD-ROM drive?  I purchased a camcorder which stated it was compatible with a OS 10.4 system.  When I opened the package I then discovered the size of the CD training/editing CD driver.  Has anybody out there ever insert a 3 inch CD into an iMac's side CD drive?   thanks

No, you can only use standard size CDs & DVDs in your iMac's SuperDrive.
see > Using nonstandard or irregular sized discs in optical drives
Depending on the Camcorder, you maybe able to connect it straight up to the iMac?
see > Mac 101: Connect your camera or camcorder
If not, then you will have to use either a tray loading external drive or a DVD recorder to copy the video from the camcorder to a standard size disc.
